Besides, they have the right to advertise whenever they want. They are the ones spending money on it and they are the ones who stand to gain or lose business from it. It is their choice!

It's Lowe's advertising budget. they get to spend it where they choose. I don't have a problem with them choosing not to spend it where they are only reaching less than 3% of their potential customers. Nor should they waste their money if it is upsetting their other potential customers. What's the problem?

Blue Panther--I agree with you--BUT--IF Lowe's had chosen to no longer advertizing on "Swamp Loggers" or similar shows because they do not (or their shoppers do not) like the message such shows send, that is ABSOLUTELY their right.

Frankly, I'd also like to pressure companies to stop advertizing on stupid shows like the Kardashian 'multi-plex'.

But the fact is, the show trying to put a normal face on Muslims does NOT (conveniently) show ANY of the other side of the story--the women here who are still being forced to wear the Burkha, or are not allowed to get jobs/drive cars/get a college education BECAUSE of the religious/cultural beliefs makes it an 'apologist' show, and I do not want to give any validity to any show that ONLY shows the 'nice, fluffy side of Muslims in America. I know several families who are Muslims, and like them. But IF the Muslims in America truly want to be 'respected' here, it would go a long way toward that if they would recognize that America is NOT just a place where they can make a lot of money because of its economic opportunities, it is ALSO a place that recognizes the 'worth' of BOTH sexes.

And BTW--I feel the same way about the show 'Big Love'--only it at least does not have as its motivation a desire to convince America that off-shoots of the Mormon church should be allowed to treat women like that.

As for this issue and where Lowes stands on it. I may or may not agree with Lowes, but I do respect the fact that they have taken a stand and do not appear to be bowing to pressure. It is long past the time that any minority group should be able to dictate to any business, just how they do business or in this case, who they choose to sponsor and who they do not.

I have not to date watched this stupid show as I am not a fan of the so called TV reality shows. I have no plans to watch it in the future because it simply holds no interest for me. For now at least, America is still a free country and we are still free to support who we want to support (as far as TV shows go that is)and to watch a TV show or change the channel or turn off the TV entirely.

We don't have a Lowes in the town I live in. That being said, simply on the basis of this article alone, it would not effect my shopping or not shopping at Lowes if we had one. In fact it just might cause me to at least enter the store and see what they have for sale and what the prices are compared to Home Depot.

Bottom line: No one ethnic or religious group is more or less important than the other. If we are going to be careful not to offend one group and not worried about another, then we are guilty of prejudice at least at some level. I say treat them all equal. If they get offended. Tough! They can always leave for a more friendly country, if they can find one!

Keep on talking about that "First Amendment." The funny thing is that your religion does NOT BELIEVE in America's First Amendment. In Islam, there is no freedom of religion- it's either ISLAM (translation: submission), OR ELSE!

I'm not a big fan of religious doctrine and dogma from any faith. I especially don't like the fact that a religious organization can control a large corporate giant like Lowes with threats of a boycott. This is a very sad affair indeed.

Lowes will now get all my hardware business.

Today I issued an order to all my handymen and contractors that any invoices presented for Products bought at Lowes will not be reimbursed.
As we purchase directly or through our contractors hundreds of thousands of dollars in supplies each Month (Yes Month) with tens of thousands from Lowes they store they mostly use will certainly feel the loss, I personally called that stores Manager and made sure he knew why.
I also have instructed our corporate charge accounts be closed.

We will not support any company that engages in bigotry to gives in to bigotry. Discrimination will not be tolerated.

I deal with contractors all the time. They do not present their invoices from conducting their business and supplying their services to me for payment. They complete the jobs I contracted with them and get my sign off once they have satisfied me that the job is complete to my satisfaction. Where they purchase their parts from which they need to perform their contracted service with me is none of my business which is why I also take extended warranties on all parts and services.

I would have to agree with noiwontyesiwill, even though the constitution does give the right of freedom of religion I believe that our fore fathers never dreamt of a religion that would conflict with the current standing laws of this nation. I believe that any religion whose basic believe system that would contradict that nations' laws could not be practice here. I say all this because of a "American Most Wanted" episode that depicted a ritural killing of 3 daughters by the father here in America who then fled to a back to his home country that convienently had no extradition treaty with US. I spent 3 years in Spain, travelled to other Euopean Countries and to the Middle East during my tour. Some of the worst conditions were due to Muslim influence. Their whole philosophy is based on becoming the ruling religion by whatever means necessary. They fight among themselves when there is dissent within their own faith. Some Muslim women I met were jealous of Christain freedoms, though they'd never admit it openly to their family. They also felt cheated because the men have the right to break the rules and go unpunished where as the women are strictly controlled and micromanaged to live a certain way. Much of Europe has a strict policy with the Muslim faith, you can maintain the faith but don't expect to go about spreading it or expecting anyone within their country to adhere to the same rules. Other than London, there isn't a lot of love of the Muslim faith outside of the middle east. Looking back at European history it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out why.

I don't think that justifies what happened here though. I mean it's a T.V. show called American Muslim. It's not "indoctrinating" anyone. I'm not saying you should give up your religion and become Muslim. Rather, you shouldn't immediately target,label, ostracize, etc. anyone just because they say there are Muslims. There are plenty of Christians who act like their religion has to be dominant too. Look at the people who originally protested against the show. Be accepting of others and don't be assertive with your religious beliefs, I guess.

Christianity has evolved. I dont see modern Christians crucifying people. I'm not Christian but at least they dont still engage in the horrific behavior from the middle ages. Islam has not evolved.

And yes , these muslims on the show do not practice those acts but THE majority of Muslims do. Islam is the biggest religion in the world and the US is not the center of the universe. I personally think any religion that treats women differently is savage and should not be allowed in the modern world.

I doubt that statement very much. Some christians still do horrific things but at least I understand the difference between some and all. I also understand the importance some people see in creating paranoia to feed to the ignorant for political and power gain.
