For the fun of it I'll say he is the greatest president ever. If it wasn't for him, unemployment would be above 18%. That false report by the right wing media of him saying 8% was just made up. Unemployment has only been at 9.X% instead. He cut the rate in half of what it should have been because of Bush.

Mr. Obama already does very well with the "children's vote"...he had high school and college age kids lined up to register to vote in 2008 and they turned out in record numbers to vote for the fresh faced candidate their school teachers and college professors had instructed them to vote for.

The Obama campaign has already put together a war room full of staffers who are fanning the 'Obama' flames thru the use of 'Facebook', 'Twitter', and other social applications to rev up the kiddies for 2012.

They don't have to watch the news or read the newspaper, since they really don't prefer to do that anyway. They don't have to watch the candidates debate, listen to candidate speeches, or put any effort at all into their vote, with the possible exception of an occsional visit to "Comedy Central"...as we've been told that many of the kids get their "real" news from John Stewart...who hosts a comedy show. All they have to do is look at their cell phones and they're instantly informed of the latest 'Obama' news and the unchallenged claims of all the wonderful things he has done or will be doing...and the actual 'facts' be damned.

So Mr. Obama has a skinny leg up on any competitor simply based on the children's vote. One might guess that the older and grayer that the Republican candidate may be, the less of the children's vote that candidate will draw, as evidenced by John McCain's poor numbers in 2008.

So Mr. Obama does have a tremendous edge with this sector of uninformed or mostly uninterested voters...just as he has with similar uninformed and mostly uninterested voting blocs.

Getting elected doesn't really have much to do with facts, debates, or ideas...it is more accurately about whom a candidate is able to drag out of the house to cast a vote in his or her favor.

Failed stimulus package? You are wrong again.

Even former President Bush said in the book he published last year that President Obama did the right thing implementing the Stimulus Package, and even world economists - not just American economists - say that without the Stimulus, the whole global economy could have collapsed.

My family personally benefitted from the Stimulus Package after our small business flat-lined in summer/fall 2008 along with 600 other small businesses in our state within a two-month period. I had voted for Bush, but then voted for President Obama and was thankful when he took office in January 2009. The immediate changes the new Administration made kept my famly from losing everything.

I can't say that this poll is surprising at all. Despite comments from liberals (the blame Bush club seems to be i-out in force today) this really has become Obama's mess. His agenda is counter to what it will take to revive the economy, he knows it but keeps thinking that promises of gifts will keep him in office. History shows that during economic downturns, people tend to vote their wallet. Obama's last three years of failed policies and broken promises score big against him in financial terms. Making homes affordable program that to date has spent 1.8 billion of the 49 billion allocated, the cash for clunkers program, that though popular only cleared excess inventories from dealer lots. Obamacare, that promised to lower health care costs and insure everyone that is failing miserably on both accounts. Special passes handed out to unions to avoid Obamacare consequences and restrictions, especially in the districts of Pelosi and Reid. Gitmo still being open, military tribunals still taking place, unsecure borders, suing states for trying to handle immigration problems on their own when our borders are not secure. Alienating some allies, bending over to some hostile governments, failure to do anything productive with the economy to stimulate job growth, refusing to force congress or work with congress to pass a budget. Rude and misinformed statements about the actions of police officers and state officials. Blaming everything on Bush even two years after he has all the backing he needed to fix what was broken and failing terribly at accepting responsibility for anything negative that is happening in his administration. He gladly accepts responsibility for positives like finally getting Bin Laden and the final stages of leaving Iraq, (neither of which would have been possible without the steps taken by Bush to make both events happen) but when he drops the ball or loses control of his party members then it is not his fault. BS. The only way Obama wins in 2012 is if the Republicans cannot present a front runner that all will unite behind and even then it would be an even money race.

In my state, 2/3 of the 'stimulus' funds went directly to municipal school systems...a lot of it for wage increases.

There were many changes that were made immediately after President Obama took office in 2009 that aided millions of Americans, such as the extension of Cobra health-care coverage from 12-months to 18-months for states that did not have this, raising age limits to age 26 for health-care coverage of children, harnessing credit companies that tried to bleed credit card holders dry, forcing mortgage companies to work with homeowners to keep thousands more from being foreclosed on, implementing the Make Housing Affordable program which reduced mortgage payments for thousands. I have known many people in my own neighborhood that have benefited from these changes.

Sounds like you have been fortunate not to struggle with any of these issues or know anyone who has had to deal with these things. Lucky you.

As far as President Obama's religion, he has said on several occasions that he is a Christian. I have seen no reason to doubt this. It is really not an issue whether he is or not. And THAT’s exactly where we are now.

So after 12 years of financial rape, the Republican congress of the 90s and President G. W. Bush succeeded in effectively breaking the economy, and now have the gall to blame Obama because he hasn’t fixed it in two years.

But Republicans in congress still had one more shot to take at the American people. Instead of keeping the focus on jobs, they have deflected attention to the deficit. Any economist will tell you that it is for all practical purposes impossible to do both, that the steps needed to create jobs almost always increase the deficit, unless taxes are increased. Likewise cutting government spending to reduce the deficit ultimately costs jobs. Any simpleton must recognize that the only way to get at the deficit without destroying the middle class is to first, put people back to work, and only then tackle the deficit.

If the economy shows any measurable improvement by the 2012 election, Obama is a shoe-in for reelection. So, it is politically advantageous for Republicans to do everything in their power to insure this doesn’t happen.

So there you have it. Republicans got us here, and it is the Republicans that are doing their best to ensure that the economy stays bad and that unemployment stays high.

The economy has improved greatly on the West coast. I don't know where they took the poll, and unfortunately they do not provide that information. Polls of 1,000 people (no matter which way the swing) don't convince me of anything.

I'm shaking my head at the ignorance of some of you in here(and some of my fellow Americans).

You want to attribute the failing of our economy(even though it was already failing before Obama stepped in the WH), to 1 man.

The POTUS doesn't hold the purse strings, doesn't personally create/write policies and laws by himself, and can't get things done unless he has cooperations from those around him.

I think that most of Obama's ideas are sound(at least 80%of them), like reforming the health care system so more Americans can receive necessary care, changing energy policies towards greener resources, and reforming our education system.

No doubt those are things he would like to do, yet he alone can't force the issue.

The problem he had was being naive in thinking he could get both sides to meet somewhere in the middle, and compromise on bills/laws/policies that help all Americans.

Those on the far right think only they are right and have all the answers, It's the same with those on the far left. Obama is too centrist for those in Congress.

Many are opposing him, because they don't agree with his background and politics. Almost all of his good ideas and intentions have been blocked, especially by the GOP. From where I sit, many of the GOP never wanted to try and work with him in the first place. They were against him from the start out of spite from their loss, and I don't doubt many are bigoted against him in some way.

Too many are too concerned about whether our leaders share the same values, upbringing and culture, instead of working with them on domestic economic plans and foreign policy.

He has no power to hire or fire Congressmen. Only the voters can do that.

You can listen to EVERY candidate for POTUS talk. I doubt any of them can turn the economy around by themselves. They all talk a mean game though, and love to accuse the Obama as the only culprit.

From one perspective I find it hard to believe people, especially poor and destitute Republicans supporting Romney, Romney will miraculously do what Obama has purported NOT done for the people.

Without a doubt, REPUBLICANS enabled the recession to happen by deregulating Wall Street in 1999 with the Gram-Leach-Bliley Act (repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933) and the Modernization of Commodities and Futures Act in 2000, a set of loopholes for white collar criminals to exploit. This legislation stimulated predatory lending, derivatives fraud, credit default swaps, CDO's, and the Enron electricity scandal. Both were passed by a Republican controlled congress.

While the recovery really hasn't happened yet for Main Street, do you want to return control of the economy back over to the people that enabled the recession to happen? They still believe in deregulation and will enable the next recession.

Bush nearly doubled the national debt, tripled the long term unfunded fiscal commitments and grew the government/military payrolls to gargantuan size. All of the severe criticism from Republicans is purely partisan. Their reinvention of themselves as spending cut experts is ridiculous given what they did the last time they had control of the White House and Congress. That spending did not represent fiscal conservatism nor did it represent small government.

Our economy has been in a bad way since Regan. Let's stop casting blame and pull together. Yes, I mean we, the people to straighten out the economy. We. the people can't be divided. We must force the issue. It is time for us to tell our representatives what we want. we can start by telling them to end the tax cuts for the wealthy, to cut the defense budget, and to create jobs by building a high speed rail-line and building windmills, etc. We have to take on the responsibility that the Constitution entrusted us with; a government by the people for the people!

Yes, Bobby Jones, spending and debt was certainly a major issue for me. I have said this many times in these forums, so I don't want to keep singing the same song over and over again ... but, our family's small business flat-lined during summer/fall 2008 during the Bush Administration, so I voted for Obama, and am thankful for the steps he took to keep our country from going into complete catastrophic financial collapse. I could go into details about the particulars, but I have shared those many times in this forum before. We are still struggling, but the changes the Obama Adminstration made kept my family from going completely under. I do think the President is doing an admirable job considering what he has inherited. He NEVER said things would change overnight. He said that it would take time to turn things completely around ... he said it would take years.

So you really think ANY President could have fixed all this mess in just two and a half years? President Obama has not been perfect, but no President is or ever will be. But, he is making progress, whereas the previous Adminstration only plunged us into distress.

My problem with Obama is you don't add to a deficit just because you have a majority in congress, and you can shove through what ever you want.

I voted for the president for several reasons. #1 The fear of Palin being one step closer to the presidency.

Did I expect the HCR would be "shoved down people's throat"? No, that was a pleasant surprise. Everyone was for the reform but against the propaganda brought to us by the insurance companies. I was saddened when the public option wasn't shoved through.

I did expect:

Clinton's surplus to still be a surplus.

Bin Ladin to be captured or killed shortly after 9/11, not 10 years later by a more compitent president.

I did expect the president would be honorable enough NOT to be wanted for war crimes by 8 countries.

I did expect consumer protection with checks and balances to prevent a recession.

I did expect to find WMDs.

I did expect the posts the president appointed would have been vetted and none would have a criminal record, I was nieve, even the president had a criminal record.

I stand amazed that so many would like to go back to the Hook or by Crook methods that brought us to our current situation. I am just as amazed at the denial by so many to think it could be fixed with a bandaid in a year's time and if not, it must be the current president's fault.

Before you guys yell "Bush tax cuts" look at revenue taken in as a percentage of GDP. I looked back 60 years and found it stays virtually the same (Laffer curve) no matter what the rates are. The 50's with a 90% top rate we took in a little over 17% revenue to GDP. In the 18% range of revenue to GDP under Bush. Last 30 year average of 18.3% Behaviors change as rates go up or down.

Deficits are spending driven. Bush spent 20% gdp and had deficits. Obama spending close to 25% of GDP. His long term plan he put out never projects lower than 23% GDP. Anything over 19% TOPS of GDP we spend as a govt puts us in a hole. That is my reasoning i will not vote for BO.

I voted for Obama in 2008 because Republicans got us into 2 wars, destroyed the economy, and in the meantime gave tax credits to the very, very wealthy (which BTW, made sure that Obama approved again under the threat of the entire GOP acting like unruly children). On top of that, W will go down in history as the president with the most vacation time EVER taken by a sitting president, while grossly mismanaging the Katrina situation. I agree with a lot of what you say. The concern I have is everything you just mentioned is paid for by someone else. I am not saying you do not pay for things. I am saying we the people who do pay taxes fund everything you are talking about.

We funded bailouts, we funded wars, we funded health care, medicare, medicaid, SS, property tax, sales tax, etc.

Some we should fund, others we should not. The way government operates is not sustainable. Instead of running on money collected, they borrow for pet projects to pay back campaign contributors.

Both parties are guilty and Obama is one of the same. The lack of concern for our budget and our deficit is what I am worried about.

Yes! Thank you! I'm sick of the two political parties (and, yes, that includes the Tea Party who are merely an extension of the Republican Party).

The idea that either party wants to cut government and the deficit is laughable. Of Reagan, Bush Sr. Clinton, Bush Jr. and Obama, Clinton did the most to cut government and trim the deficit. The others grew the size of government and increased the deficit. Let's put to rest the myth that the Republicans are the party of small, limited government.

Let's also put to rest that the Democrats are running this country competently. Obama and the Democrats made some policies that helped this country. They also have failed in many key areas. Health care reform and the handling of Libya are two prime examples. Too often, Obama has proved himself to be an ineffective leader, crumbling to the GOP and failing to articulate his plans. He ran as a visionary and governs as a functionary. He is Bush-lite in many ways.

Most people voted for Obama in 2008 because he was the lesser of two evils. McCain, once a man with actual ideas, became the quintessential GOP front runner. His running mate proved to be a disaster. However, his ideas to improve the economy and Obama's were not terribly different. Voting for McCain and filling Congress with Republicans probably wouldn't have made much of a different. Even Obama's foreign policy is Bush-lite.

Deficit spending is another joke. Let's lay to rest any idea that either party gives a damn about the deficit. The United States is selectively broke. The GOP want to cut things like Medicare and Medicaid but don't want to touch defense spending. Democrats continue to play here and there but when given an opportunity to do something about the deficit (letting the Bush tax cuts expire), instead they caved and extended them further adding to our deficit.

Yes, I'm sick of both parties. Romney being ahead in the polls isn't a good thing. None of the GOP have actual ideas. If Obama is re-elected it will be because the GOP gave us lousy options, not because he has been an effective president. Right now, I think Mickey Mouse is my candidate.

When we talk of deficits its not a direct correlation of how the economy is doing.

For instance:

Lets say you take the Dem approach and raise taxes and for the sake of argument the economy improves. We take in 2.5 Trillion instead of the 2.2 Trillion we took in this year. All is great! Except .......we spend again in the upper 3 Trillion range and we have another 1.5Trillion dollar deficit. Even though the economy is doing better we are spending more. Deficits are much more spending driven than economy driven as we usually take in around 18.3% of GDP. (30 year average)

Real life example when the capital gains rates were lowered from 25% to 15% in 2003 revenues from capital gains grew by more than double in 3 years. Result ....Bush spent more than the increased amount taken in and we had a deficit.

Until we get spending under control doesn't matter a hill of beans what policies go in cause we are screwed.

We are in a depression, call it any name you want, but this is a depression. The unemployment numbers do NOT take into account those who are off or never received unemployment, so double those numbers and it will probably still be under. I know in my state that the number do not reflect reality here and from talking to my friends all over the US it is the same.

Under ObamaCare, seniors will lose access to care. Access to healthcare will become more difficult because of massive reductions in Medicare payments. And, cuts to private Medicare Advantage options will cause 7.4 million seniors to lose their current coverage.

It actually does matter. A filibuster will delay a vote but not end it. If you have a majority and the presidential seat. You can pass anything without the president vetoing the bill. Of Course congress can vote again and pass it anyway. It does comes down to numbers, but when you have a majority it is easier.

A good example of this is what happened in Wisconsin. When the democrats left the state because they were a minority and could not do anything about it. Or when the health care bill was passed.

One of the things that went into effect already in Obamacare was the child only policies... can't deny with previous condition, insure til 26, no limit on policy, etc.

Actually, the President is very pro-education. A perfect example of this has been the way he protected the Pell Grants that are available to four-year undergrad college students during the budget cut proposals. Only cuts were for summer school and graduate students. These were sensible cuts made to trim the budget, but did not affect any four-year students. Both of my college-aged sons are benefitting from these grants. In a time of economic crisis, the President has made it clear that education is the surest way to insure that future generations of Americans will be able to compete in the global community.

Most of the school districts around me that are severly suffering are run by democrats. Detroit public school board is one of the worst in the nation. Democrats have had a strangle hold on this city and state for a long time.

Furthermore Bill Clinton vetoed a bill in the 90's relating to education spending.

Politicians do things for political reasons, not because it's good or bad for we the people.

Also if you look at the last few presidents and their spending on education. Obama is actually down 1%. What's more interesting is defense is up.

There are many scholarships available that are based on merit alone, not financial need, especially in the areas of science or math. Engineering scholarships are widely available at many colleges, too, as there is a great demand for graduates in these fields. Also, departmental scholarships are a good route to investigate.

I agree money is not the only problem. When I was young the whole neighborhood cared what every kid was doing and how school was going. Essentially we had multiple sets of parents watching out for us. Now it's hard to get some parents to care about their own child.

First time i heard years ago of someone doing away with dept of education the first reaction was "what the hell".

Having watched how EXTREMELY inneficient it is for a long time i agree. Why do we need to take our tax money for education and send it to Washington, just so they can siphon off money and send it right back to us? If each state did there on thing there would be 50 models to look at and sooner or later somebody will do some good things. I would rather states with heavy input locally couldn't do ANY worse than the Feds do. And still have some Federal oversight, just WAY LESS than now.

It really is quite simple in an overwhelming mess. I have worked at private schools, public schools before school of choice, and a charter school.

Here is the difference. The private school is judged by academic performance, and people will pay money for their children to learn period. The school realizes this and pays good teachers the money to do it.

Public School before school of choice were also great, if you wanted to go to a good public school you moved to that city and paid the taxes necessary to go there. The school, teachers, parents and kids all had a sense of community.

Charter schools are a joke. Kids who should not be passing are pushed through. Simply because if the graduation rate isn't high enough funding is removed and the school closes.

At this point in time America has villanized private schools, destroyed public schools by school of choice, and turned to a new model called Charter schools. We have been going backwards for decades now and it's sad.

I agree government needs to get out of education and leave it to the States and local communities.

Absolutely correct...we send all that money to Washington DC and then wait for a portion of it to trickle down to the states...to whom we also send all that money to, only to wait for a portion of it to trickle back down to the town or city we live in...and to whom we also send all that money to, only to wait for a protion of it to pay for things our individual communites need.

So the real question is, out of that single tax dollar we send to DC via our federal income taxes, how many pennies or nickels are left by the time our money makes it back to our local communities to pay for things that should be more locally controlled in the first place ?

Bobby Jones - I disagree with the private schools paying good teachers to do the work. I have 2 children, the oldest just graduated from a private school, and the youngest will begin the school in the fall. The teachers make about HALF what the public sector makes.

This school is a church backed organization. Their work centers around ministry. The wonderful teachers work for a paltry wage because it is their ministry. If they wanted money, they would have to back to the public sector. That being said, they have many reasons for not being in the public sector in the first place........

That being said, the school is one of the best performing systems in the state. Very high graduation rate, SAT and ACT scores, college bound seniors... Almost nonexistent drop-out rate, teen pregnancy, drug problems... It is just a good environment to work in with all the staff rowing the boat in the same direction.

I'm shaking my head at the ignorance of some of you in here(and some of my fellow Americans).

You want to attribute the failing of our economy(even though it was already failing before Obama stepped in the WH), to 1 man.

The POTUS doesn't hold the purse strings, doesn't personally create/write policies and laws by himself, and can't get things done unless he has cooperations from those around him.

I think that most of Obama's ideas are sound(at least 80%of them), like reforming the health care system so more Americans can receive necessary care, changing energy policies towards greener resources, and reforming our education system.

No doubt those are things he would like to do, yet he alone can't force the issue.

The problem he had was being naive in thinking he could get both sides to meet somewhere in the middle, and compromise on bills/laws/policies that help all Americans.

Those on the far right think only they are right and have all the answers, It's the same with those on the far left. Obama is too centrist for those in Congress.

Many are opposing him, because they don't agree with his background and politics. Almost all of his good ideas and intentions have been blocked, especially by the GOP. From where I sit, many of the GOP never wanted to try and work with him in the first place. They were against him from the start out of spite from their loss, and I don't doubt many are bigoted against him in some way.

Too many are too concerned about whether our leaders share the same values, upbringing and culture, instead of working with them on domestic economic plans and foreign policy.

He has no power to hire or fire Congressmen. Only the voters can do that.

You can listen to EVERY candidate for POTUS talk. I doubt any of them can turn the economy around by themselves. They all talk a mean game though, and love to accuse the Obama as the only culprit.

You are all correct, we do NOT need any of the candidates currently running. Though I will say that at least Ron Paul (not the son, Rand) has voted the same way, for the US Constitution for his complete political career. He has kudo's from me for that. I disagree with many things with him though if we have this same bunch of ... "candidates" then he will have my vote. Why? Because of all the candidates and potential candidates (and I have researched all of their political years) Ron Paul is the only one for the Constitution of the United States (without the Constitution there is NO America).

sick & tired...I am also pro-small business down to my littlest toe. President Obama tried to do several things in the last year and half...all bashed by Republicans. The first thing he did under financial reform was to allow banks to be more flexible to small businesses with their short term loan needs and he also added funding to SBA.

Big business doesn't need help. It needs an overhaul. Venture capitalists like Mitt Romney bought of millions of American small businesses and sold off their assets in a feeding frenzy that ended with them sending all of those profits to offshore tax free havens.

We don't need more Big Businesses. We need to stabilize small businesses and help them to become what they've always been before venture capitalism destroyed them...financially stable. Americans have to stop buying from big box businesses and start helping out their small businesses. It's the smaller businesses who are doing the hiring, not the Corporations.

Walker, I did not play the race card - please re-read my post. To the others who commented, I do not support either the Dems or the Reps. I am and will remain and independent conservative. Yes, I did initially support the Tea Party, as I thought that they may be a viable third force that our country desparately needs. How-ever, they were hijacked by the Reps, Kochs, BP, Waltons, Medical Insurance industry, etc and are now nothing more than rent-a-mob.

Since the Bretton Woods System is based on Government intervention of set policies and procedures, I like it, think it might actually help. Although I will admit I do need to do further research on it. The only problem in returning to the Bretton Woods System is Shareholders & Wallstreet's mentatily that if you don't make more money than the previous year then layoff's or other cost cutting measures are introduced. Until we get these criminals to realize that this is a doomed philosophy, I have no Idea how to get out of this mess. Also do propose we keep the Dollar as the bases for all currencies exchange rate?

W. Goin - As a republican, I do not deny that Bush had nothing to do with the economic decline. ANY of the candidates immediately following Bush would have his work cut out for him. But, Obama got elected because: 1) He was the democratic candidate, and Americans wanted a non-Republican no matter who it was; 2) I'll say it, He's black. And this directly affected the way the media portrayed him, not necessarily why people voted for him; 3) And of course, the media. They all jumped on the Obama bandwagon and portrayed him as a savior and the answer to America's prayers. Through the eyes of the media, Obama could say and do no wrong. This, of course, affected voters' perceptions of him. Let's not forget that he had done nothing of any significance in his short time as a Senator. Yet, the media, and many voters, did not hesitate to question Palin's experience. Without the help of the media, and the fact that he is black, Obama would not have stood a chance.

That being said, the important thing is not why or how he got elected; it's what he has done in office and whether he should be re-elected. The answer is simply NO. Liberals want to say that Republicans don't want to admit Bush's part in the economic crisis. I, on behalf of all Republicans, admit Bush's blame!!! BUT, Obama knew full well the situation of the economy when he was running his campaign. The Economy from a small business standpoint is in a Catch 22, that is not the President's fault. The problem with the Economy is there is no demand for a lot of products. There were a lot of uneccesary products and job fields created during our "booming" years. Now people have woken up to frivilous spending and are more responsable with thier money. So People will not spend until they are sure they can afford it. Therefore, people will not hire until they see a demand for their products/services. But people aren't going to spend until they see people hiring again and feel a sense of job security. The problem with Obama is the way he and current Politicians are dividing this country into liberal vs. conservative, rich vs. poor, educated vs uneducated. Old man too, is correct. Our President is doing the best he can. Give the man a chance. He is doing a much better job than former president Bush. Romney sure won't get my vote.

The problem isn't Obama had a big mess to clean up, it's that he campaigned for it, promised everyone that he would change the face of Washington for the better, that if we elect him he would lead us out of the dark and into the light. Well I am pretty sure he has proven that he overestimated his self on all accounts. I have seen 100 different links posted on here telling me things are improving or they're getting worse I don't trust polls (Even this one that says Obama is loosing Romeny) polls & "So-Called" statistics are easily manipulated. All I can go on is my industry in my region and there are no signs of improvement. My financial situation gets worse everyday.

So I guess the latest insult to any Republican candidate or potential candiate is the highly intellectual label 'vacuum cleaner saleman' hung on Mitt Romney by someone calling themself 'old man too'.

Yeah, I guess Mr. Romney doesn't really have many accomplishments on his resume to satisfy folks like 'old man too'.

I wonder how "old man's" resume stacks up comparitively ?

Capitalism is the "opportunity" for everyone, I agree with you, but when the BIG Corporations make the "market" for them and didn't let anybody else to "compete" with them, is no longer Capitalism.....

Did you remember when Walmart even Kmart or any other Big Brand points to a certain customers? and for example you couldn't find lets say, auto parts, in any of its stores? And you have other companies that excel in other merchandise market but didn't go for the same "market" as others and it was a fair "competition" about prices and services?

Today, with the "power" that BIG Corporate America has, how could YOU or ME, middle America, can compete against those monsters????

Richer are richer every day a little bit more, and the poor a little poorer every day. When the gap between those two can't hold no more, It will come a time for Anarchy and revenge.

Take the history as an example. The two biggest "revolutions" (French Revolution 1789 and the Russian Revolution of February 1917, not the communist of October) were consequence of the disparity between those who have (the royalty and the riches for the example) and those who hasn't (the plebe or the poor also).

What happened in Tunisia and Egypt can happen here, you just have to have the "conditions"... And we're getting there.....

I haven't agreed with hernon much on here, but I do agree with that post.

Is it a question of morals and ethics that have changed or financial policy set by the government. I say Morals and ethics from the Baby Boomer Generation who glorified the "if it feels good do it" mentality.

What do you think about eliminating Income tax and adding a federal sales tax in addition to already placed state sales tax? This would ensure that everybody pays their part from all aspects rich and poor, legal and illegal. Your thoughts?

I am for EVERYBODY paying their fair share of taxes.

You make money, That's what you have to pay for taxes.... Why do we complicate the issue that much?

The law says 27% (as an example). it will be 27% if I make 1 dollar or if I make 1 million.

It'll never happen....47% of Americans do not pay federal income taxes....eliminating the federal income tax for everyone and setting up a national sales tax would mean that those 47% would have to start paying attention to what politicians say.

On top of that, the screaming and whining that would follow discussions of a national sales tax would be deafening...haven't we heard enough "fair share" crabbing already ?

Although the basic idea of it should be on the table for discussion.

There would have to be a boatload of exemptions handed out should any type of national sales tax ever be addressed.

Can you imagine the outcry over the rich "not paying their fair share" should sales taxes be applied to all goods and services sold ??? It would be endless.

So it would end up much like we're seeing health care ending up...everyone has to enroll and pay...except for you and him and them and her, you don't have to pay...but everyone else does.

Sorry but I take exception to that statement. Possibly you aren't old enough to remember but,from the beginning the hard work of the American citizens built this Country. We had farmers,ranchers,mom & pop stores, family owned business large and small. The greedy corporations took over each and every one of those privately owned industries . Walmart set up shop in every small town in America and put the locals out of business. now we have corporate owned everything. The average hard working American doesn't have a chance at starting anything. These Corporations are no longer American Corps. Now they are wold wide.

Old Corporate America built this America with Americans, in America and for Americans. They didn't shipped out the industry, they didn't open 100 or more stores in other countries and forgot about America....

Old Corporate America was proud to be MADE IN USA, and make everybody proud that our products have worldwide recognition.

Modern Corporate America is all in the profits, and nothing else, no matter if it's made in China, Mexico or Bulgaria. Old Corporate America used to have their stockholders in America because there was no such thing as "foreign investors". Today plenty of the "stockholders" from the major companies are in other countries but USA.

So, Old Corporate America built America, for Americans (even though they take a bigger share). Modern Corporate America built "profits" for their stockholders around the world (but America).....

Old corporate america became new corporate america when the federal government started regulating and taxing them into oblivion. The cost of doing business in the USA became so high that had they not diversified to outsourcing they would have gone out of business which is good for noone especially the middle class family that relies on corporate america for their paychecks and goods/services at a price WE can afford. If the government would get out of our lives and stop regulating things for their own power/money grab we would be much better off.
