since you missed at least one auto that should have been included, you also should have had an "Other" catagory..... Don't count my vote for the Sonata, I only voted so I could comment.

Same. There are plenty of other options out there than what's on this list. The selection is pretty ridiculous since it includes vehicles that are on extreme ends of both scales, cost-wise.

I'd kill myself before I'd drive a 1.8l 4cyl engine. My first car was a 3cyl Geo Metro and while it toted spectacular MPGs, I spent most of my time with the pedal to the floor, just so I wouldn't get run over by Detroit rush-hour traffic.

I voted for the Sonata because I currently own one (albeit an older, less fuel efficient model). When it comes time to replace this one, I'll buy another one, probably hybrid if the prices come down. Not sure why the Elantra is on the list. Sure, the mileage may be there, but from what I read elsewhere, the quality is still suspect. My second choice would be the Ford Fusion.

I've been looking at the new Lincoln. However, I notice that my 2002 Acura TL gets as good or better milage than a lot of the cars noted. The problem is that she only takes "high test". Ah, well, two more years, and I'll take a look at what's out there.

And I not only am buying an American built car this time around, I'm buying a UNION built car.

Well, what its gas milage? Believe me, there are times I wish for my '63 VW (and the gas prices that went with her). I'm not a GMC fan, but they are trying to improve. The last GM car I owned was an '88 Pontiac. Pretty much stayed w/MGs, VWs until our 84 Mazda. The problem with Japanese cars now: if they are built there, and the good ones were, they probably glow and will be glowing for a few decades.

I pretty much decided to stop supporting their car industry with the improvement of US built, Union built cars and the Japanese's lack of caring for the environment. A Prius does not bring back a dead whale, IMO.

Hmmm, I see that none of you guys will talk cars with me. That's all right. Few men will talk hockey or football with me, either. Still, let me give you my credentials: I've done my own brake jobs, tune-ups, oil changes. I was taught to drive in a '60 Porsche (the banana yellow bathtub looking one) in 1965 by a driver for Granatelli (Iskaderian cams). I flunked my first drivers' test because I was threading needles and, as Mel told me, I never gave up the poll position. The only tickets I have had were for speeding. Oh, and that Acura TL I mentioned? It's a Type S. Pretty nice, but after an injury, I had to give up my Type R, a fine machine.

Just needed to say that not only guys do cars; but then, I've noticed how the few professional women drivers are treated and shouldn't be surprised.

I've owned a few of them and never got over 22 mpg on any of them. I'm speaking of overall average. My northstar Caddilac gets 26 over all average with all the comforts and power available in the automotive world and USA made.

Subaru doesn't fit with what I need in a car, but I know they are great and the odometer can turn over several hundred thousands of miles and it keeps on ticking.

I loved the quality of Japanese made cars (not the ones made in the USA by non-Union workers, though); but I'm giving the USA a try this time.

And I keep my cars a long time: 10-14 years. That's long enough. There is new tech to be had.

I bought a Forrester on Oct and am now getting 26 mpg, overall. I bought it mainly because it has the best all-wheel drive system and had the best suspension. Driving the Equinox and Terrain I could feel every bump. I was really dissapointed in the large blind spots on the newer cars, also.

If you want be "Green" and are worried about MPG, buy a 88-95 Honda Civic with the 1.5L motor in it. You can get one for about 1500.00 that runs just fine and will get you anywhere from 35-38 mpg. They're cheap to fix, parts are plentiful and cheap.

I have a Honda Del Sol with one of those motors in it that I use to commute in and when I take it to the beach I'll get well over 40 mpg even with the roof of it on the highway. The car is 18 years old with 175K on it. The hell with spending the money they want on these new hybrid POS.

I can afford a vette but don't want a Volt. There's just something about a vette When I drive mine nothing else matters . I pop in my favorite Cd and off I go my hair blowing in the wind (I drive a convertible) and the world just slips away. I become one with my ride truly there is nothing like it. it's amazing when your cares just slip away!

Except for the hybrid cars, the gas mileage is really not impressive at all, so stick to whatever car you like because it doesn't make much of a difference for the environment.

You miss one of the best with a Toyota Yaris. My sedan gets 40+ on the highway. In 2009 I traded an Echo sedan at 85,000 - about 38 mpg - very reliable - only repair was to replace brakes before I turned it over to my son.

Of course if everyone were driving something like a Yaris that would be mitigated somewhat.

It's sad to see that 25mpg is considered good milage. We need to be concentrating on 40, 50, 60 mpg or more. Everything else should be crushed and recycled.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything on the list.

MSNBC, you need to get better "link headline" writers. "Supersippers"? Perhaps one of the models, Fusion Hybrid, meets that criteria. Anything averaging below 30 MPG most certainly does NOT qualify as a "supersipper". Even up to 40 MPG barely qualifies. Stop propping up the automobile industry. If they really wanted to, they could produce EVERY car with 40+ MPG.

I keep a Jeep GC to haul around my trailer (with the gas staion attached), don't drive it much because I can't afford it. How about a mid size SUV that can haul 4000 lbs on gas or switch over to gas/electric for better milage when not hauling a load.

I love my 2010 Prius, 48 MPG, roomy & quick. Until they can get a Prius like car that gets better mpg than my Prius I am not interested.

Your car is like your avatar in life to the people you know. If you drive the Elantra people will percieve you as cheap and frugal, seeing the $6995 price tag he thought "good lord thats alot of money". If you drive the Corvette people will think you are compensating for something thats missing in life. The Odyssey says I'm trapped in a soccer moms delivery service. Driving a truck with nothing to haul says the radio must be fixed on country western radio and watch out for flying tobacco spit. The Fusion says I am ready to trust Detroit again. Any new Buick now says hey I can buy a Buick even though I am only 64. The Sonata says The Honda store was out of Accords or $40.00 dollars a month makes a big difference in my budget. Driving an Equinox means their last full size SUV broke them and now they are short on room but can go downtown and park if they want. The Audi Q7 says I've got too many kids but I am still a car snob. And finaly The Passat depicts the aging hippie that still has an environmental concience but now has a bad back.

f-150 i own rides smooth and if i could get the power needed i would like the 20+ vs my 14.

Favorite rental car is the Ford Fusion SEL, drives, rides and gets execlent milage in the + 30 range; difinately a car to buy and drive, makes the Toyota's Camary pail in comparision, i wonder how they eve sell the Corrola, it is one of the worst in the rental fleets.

What's surprising is that I bought a Saturn for $14,000 in 1996 that got 40 mpg highway and 36 city (that was real) and car companies thump their chest about a hybrid that cracks 30 mpg and costs $35,000.

I'm stilll driving that Saturn and it gets 31 city now, maybe 35 highway with 185,000 miles on it.

The difference.. it has a 1.7 liter 4-cylinder and only weighs 2700 lbs.
