Yes. This is good. Critical and logical thinking is a practiced discipline that requires more than seeing the obvious. I could go into some deep level of focusing on scientific or political thought, but that would defeat the purpose of the thought.
But I wait for the doom and gloom critics. They love a good old bad narrative.
Some just can't stand good news. Moaning and groaning is their entertainment.
who can trust liberal biased controlled media
Exactly!! Uhhh, why are you here again??
So , the extension of the Bush tax cuts for all seemed to help. Must be why even some of the Democrats in office called for renewing all of the tax cuts.
Businesses said taking away some of the uncertainty would help. Of course they also said that putting some control over Obama would help as well. Nothing like a good shellacking in Nov. to get the economy going again. People do tend to forget that it si businesses that create most of the jobs in this country.
Louis: "I could go into some deep level of focusing on scientific or political thought..." i.e. Bull$hit. Why not cut to the chase and credit any job growth to the extension of the Bush tax cuts.
This is why the tea baggers are trying to orchestrate a government shutdown. They need to destroy the economy. If it keeps getting better Obama will definitely be reelected. They rather destroy our country and the middle class.
CEO, Bush is not president. You guys remind everyday I remind them the world went shot on his watch. But since you are busy channeling your inner Bush, please feel free to give him all the credit you want.
I gather you think he was a good president. Oh, wait you're pulling an April Fool's joke on me aren't you... oops, my bad, ya got me.

The economy gained 260 thousand jobs in March; the Economy lost 358 thousand jobs in March ; no gain, unemployment remained at 8.9% official, un official 21%.for 40 years we have been shipping our middle class jobs overseas, and they can not figure out what the problem is !
1,000,000's of people are still unemployed, many are homeless, and those that have been affected have little hope their future will improve in the near future. Do not put on those party hats yet, comrads!
Hahahahahahaha
Somehow I knew that the Repubs would claim that any decent bit of good news is either A) Liberal lie or B) The Bush tax cuts.
But hey, I'm one of those glass-half full type of people.....
To all who will poo poo on the extension of the tax cuts, I will simply ask when did the private sector start adding jobs? Yep, after they were extended so businesses would have some idea what is going to happen in the next couple of years tax wise.
And it is likely that things will continue to improve if Harry Reid and his band of liberal shut down hawks finally get off their lazy butts and work with the house to get a budget passed for the rest of this year.
Wakehead,
You should wake up. It's Democrats that are orchestrating a government shut down by not actually doing anything. They say they have ideas, but they don't pass anything. As Boehner said the other day, "Pass the damn thing already so we can actually start some real negotiations."
If government shuts down, it's on the back of the Democrats this time around. They had a year of unfettered control of everything and they did nothing with the budget.
I had a hard time believing this article. I think they should start backing this crap up with information, like "where these jobs are!" I have an increased number of folks asking for employment, unfortunately, we have no need for more workers since our workload has not increased. I feel bad as I know some of the applicants have been unemployed nearly 2 years.
Its a good report. Period.
The next in now a string of many good reports. The Obama recovery is underway in the job market.
I find it hilarious that the GOP, the Tea Buggerers and even Chuck Todd, Savannah and Chris Jansing just couldnt water down the news fast enough on their shows this morning.
Now watch the GOP simultaneously pe e on the good news and take credit for it at the same time! Poor Republicans .......they just said no, offered NO JOBS BILL...no ideas. They sat on the bench and threw rocks. They should just stay on the bench and let team Obama win the game.
Pretty soon, you just look stupid trying to deny the progress.
. I think they should start backing this crap up with information, like "where these jobs are!"
I agree they should put out a graphic that breaks it down. ALthough Im sure one is available somewhere.
BTW- Seattle is doing better. At least in the IT sector. 68 people hired at company i work for in last 2 months. Anybody else seeing it in their home town?
As for the tax cuts being responsible, it is hard to prove cause and effect. Coincidence doesn't equal causality.
But one might wonder then why the economy went so far down the tubes if the Bush tax cuts were such a great thing.
The economy was much better overall when Clinton was president, and the taxes were higher than Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II.
I've noticed more employment ads in the paper. However most of them are for crap sub 10 dollar an hour jobs with no benefits. While an increase in jobs is a welcomed sign I have my doubts as to how long this "recovery" will last with increasing food and energy prices.
Louis....take the marbles out of your mouth...you think like you talk.
Ive read a few sources in the past that say it takes up to 150,000 jobs just to keep up with the growth of the job labor pool. Anybody have any reliable numbers on that?
First, just look around your city/town and determine if YOU think things are getting better. A friend set out yesterday to find a job and called me to say it was horrible out there. The problem is she is looking for an entry level job for a young person that has zero skills which today is common.
Because my town doesn't really have any industry to speak of, there won't be any hiring in a big way. We have mostly health care jobs which have been stagnant since the recession. We are not seeing any building which was a big contributor in the past of jobs in our area. So the trades are still crappy. I am still not seeing empty commercial buildings getting any renters either. But at the same time my town doesn't have a huge inventory of homes for sales. The same ones are for sale, but I don't see any unusual amount coming on the market.
Manpower had a few observations yesterday that I think need attention.
First it was said that instead of insisting that all high school graduates go to a 4 year school, we need to be instead herding kids to community colleges and tech schools into programs lasting 2 years or even certificate programs. They need skills they can count on, not just marketing degrees.
Immelt said that he is seeing a continued decline of graduates with math and science skills and thus those good paying jobs will be going to those outside of the US. So even though the jobs might be here in the US, according to him, the hired person won't be a US college grad. Our public school system stinks, but then we know that.
Another observation was that the unemployment benefits this time vs all other times are so lucrative that many are not bothering to enter the workplace and thus that is why we are not seeing the unemployment number rise as was expected. So those on unemployment are keeping those benefits and not re-entering the workplace yet. Keep in mind that in the past there was the 26 week unemployment which when expires forces people to take any job available to survive. This time we extended those benefits to 99 weeks in some cases and thus looking for a job wasn't that critical for some.
Also keep in mind that going forward employers will be socked with much higher unemployment costs to pay for these extended benefits. The threshold for that payroll tax will double.
Also keep in mind that the wage of these new jobs is not higher, and yet expenses for that employee is much greater than when they left the workplace. I am talking about gas and food.
We have a structural failure and if we don't fix it now the snowball will continue. While it is vogue to say "let the rich pay more taxes" you will eventually run out of them to tap into. Actually what happens is that more money is made in cash and thus more lost revenue for the feds and states.
Since the day after the elections in Nov. the flaming left has been asking "Boehner, where are the jobs?", despite the fact that the Democrats still hold the senate and the WhiteHouse. Well, according to the report the unemployment level is going down. So, what does the left do now? They want to give the credit to Obama.
More smoke and mirrors. The real unemployment numbers are much higher. What are the quality of these jobs anyway? Enough to feed a family or part time dollar store jobs? Why are record numbers of people on food stamps/SNAP? Nothing to see here people, move along now, move along.
Tim in Seattle - I asked where the jobs were as people where I live will probably have to move if they want a job. The recovery is not happening here, things are not that great. We've had no reason to advertise for new workers for 2 years now. We would love to hire more workers, but can't since we don't have increased orders to pay their wages. You may think the report is great, I want proof before I give it the stamp of approval. Oh and there have not been a string of good reports, more like contradictory reports.
Yay! The unemployment rate fell .1% in one month and all it cost was $600 billion! At this rate, if the government spends another $22.8 trillion we can get back to an unemployment rate of 5%! Never mind that our currency will be worthless - that doesn't matter because the "animal spirits" in the economy will be unleashed, aggregate demand will increase, and the economy will have recovered!
April fools! But seriously though, this is just another temporary bubble created by the Federal Reserve that will inevitably pop. If the Federal Reserve doesn't do anymore quantitative easing and the unemployment rate is still down in two years then I will believe that the recovery is real.
The hypocrisy of the left is mind boggling. Obama is 4 more years of Bush on steroids and you libtard sheeple still bow to your great messiah...UNBELIVABLE!
Housing is below the low of the recession, as is oil usage. IF you go and actual report from the BLS, you'll find that the long term employed has increased in number as have the number of discouraged workers who have given up looking.
This reflects the fact that people are not finding work and companies are largely hiring from in-house or hiring people who are already employed.
Like they said on good morning America this morning.
Yes it's a good number 260k jobs, but a small fraction of the 7 million that were lost. Many of which will not come back to the U.S..
And I blame the greed of the Unions for driving the manufacturing jobs oversees.
Just yesterday, MSNBC reported that while American companies are growing again and showing profits, there are no new jobs to follow. That is an unbelievable turn of events!!!
Who says the media is controlled by politicians?
It takes at least twice as long to rebuild a house than it does to do the demolition work. The same can be said of our economy. It took 8 years to ruin it it will take about 16 years to get it near the condition it was at before it was dismantled.
theboys- I agree with you about the education system, having HS grads going to Community College, I also think public schools should be overhauled. One thing should happen is kids should go year round, yes they should have vacation time, but kids should not have to waste September and October to play catch up. Summers off was leftover from when most Americans were farmers, this aspect is out dated.
I don't know Chip, Deregulating Real estate, Business, and Banking practices, a mantra of 'No new taxes' during two wars...geesh!
Our method for tracking unemployment does not count for; those who gave up looking, self employed (home builders, contractors, service providers and etc), and those who never had a job and don't want one. If we calculate those factors we are probably closer to 15% to 18%. However, with that said March's report is still good news for those who want to work!
Millions of people fell of the count when their UI ran out. It is still not as good as the headline puts it.
We just had MSN articles earlier this week pointing out how young college grads have a hard time getting a job and it you are over 40, your chances are very slim.
It also doesn't track preschoolers or people in comas. Are you really surprised that less than 90% of living human beings work full time jobs?
It is dropping people that it used to track. Big difference!
You have the U3 and U6 indicators. BLS does not track people once they have given up because of not being able to find a job. They are still unemployed, but just not counted.
Millions of high school and college grads will be looking for a job soon. Since many never have worked before they will not be counted either since they do not qualify for UI benefits. ;)
Government math is "special" - special to not count all the unemployed, or those that have "run their course" and ran out of entitlement benefits!
If people really buy into this political hype of the economy is getting better, they deserve what they get when America goes "under" - all one has to do is open their eyes and watch the cuts, foreclosures, bank closings, and record debt with no way to pay!
OMG 63 % of people think that we are not out of the woods. What is with you people? I received twice a telephone call from employment agency to work for HR in (Michigan), and (English is my second language), they wanted to pay me $15 per hour, I'll tell you Aerotech is the best work agency (use it I strongly recommend), I had to decline it because I am staying with the little one at home. My American husband got engineering job and 90k with it, and yes we have to pay for his lust MBA a big student loan, but he was willing to study and in two years he received this dream job. Are we just that lucky or you are just that down?
Emma - welcome to the US and I hope you get treated well everyday
Slovac languages are very difficult. Aerotech got my husband a couple of jobs in the area of $15 an hour but he had to work very hard at finally landing a job with a higher pay range.
Thank you Kirk. I came to America in 2000 (after meeting this handsome American pilot). My first job I received as a data entry I couldn't speak well English,l but I was very good in mathematics and with numbers. I just want to tell that America doing really really good (I visited my country lust year) and trust me on one thing here "I know when President cares or when he doesn't" your President CARES.
HEY EMMA ...... now he is your president too ........ welcome to America....... best of luck to you.
8.8%? REALLY??
More people are struggling than at any time in our history and they feed us this BS.
Corporate profits are at all time highs and we should feel good about this.
Unemployment rate more like 22% including those that aren't collecting benefits anymore.
Take a look at the homeless shelters and soup kitchens and tell me how good it's getting!
I see homeless people with signs at all of the big exit ramps around the city. I have never seen that before the last couple of years. Just wait until the government gets there hands on the entitlement programs. Those programs don't really effect me but it would be nice if they would stop taking it out of my check if I am never going to see any benefit from it. I would definitely donate money to certain organizations if they weren't automatically deducted from my pay.
Community health centers are still seeing a huge increase in uninsured patients. I bet many of those jobs have low pay and no benefits! Spin, spin, spin the numbers.
"More people are struggling than at any time in our history and they feed us this BS."
Yeah, the people standing in bread and souplines of the great depression were much better off than we are today. Don't know where you live, but where I'm at alot of businesses have started hiring more recently. It may not be as much as we need as a country, but its definately trending in the right direction.
Crime and poverty were much worse during the S&L 80s. You can check Justice Department and CDC statistics if you don't believe me.
Don I'm sure your stats hold true but when more people beleive that they are solely responsible for their own troubles they are less likely to act out. I'm pretty sure the suicide rate is up. Very disturbing!
Sorry, but some reason, I feel a collapse coming on. So I'll go ahead and repost.
Yes. This is good. Critical and logical thinking is a practiced discipline that requires more than seeing the obvious. I could go into some deep level of focusing on scientific or political thought, but that would defeat the purpose of the thought.
But I wait for the doom and gloom critics. They love a good old bad narrative.
Next question who takes the credit? Reps,Dems,or hard working Americans making their way, irregaurdless of politics.
Even through all our domestic issues we remain the number one manufacturer in the world. The problem is we are having to make up for one machine doing the work of hundreds, and outsourcing our jobs to other countries.
Yes, and do you know what we are making? OR who is buying? We are a war machine. We make planes and high tech weapons and such and then we buy them with our tax money. LOL What a joke!~
@ Crystal; Yes as a matter of fact I do,and I challenge you out of the top 25 manufactures in the U.S to name one to do with the military, with the exception of lockheed and that is for some kind of sensors.
Bottom Line: If the U.S. manufacturing sector were a separate country, it would be tied with Germany as the world's third largest economy. It would also be larger than the entire economies of India and Russia combined. As much as we hear about the "demise of U.S. manufacturing," and how we are a country that "doesn't produce anything anymore," and how we have "outsourced our production to China," the U.S. manufacturing sector is alive and well, and the U.S. is still the largest manufacturer in the world
LOL as you say, not a joke at all Crystal.
@ Crystal; One jet manufacturer out of numerous companies , hardly constitutes a war machine that leads manufacturing. My point is that we manufacture much more than weapons, this is not driving the economy,as you are trying to make it sound. Boeing does manufacture the osprey and some others, but not hardly a war machine.
@ Dayton; A better question would be why are you so pickyl. You get the meaning of the word.
Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.
Dayton did you vote for the Governor who just killed collective bargaining in OHIO? btw see below please:
ir·re·gard·less Adjective Adverb /ˌiriˈgärdlis/
and your education level is what?
@ Crystal; Boeing is like 11th or so on the list, and they are facing huge cuts from defense spending as are most others, hardly a war machine. Good job finding the one though,I knew you could do it.lol
We are also the number one makers of computer software, medical equipment, hi-tech industrial machines, farm equipment, aerospace, food, movies, music, and the list goes on and on.
Yet, China steps in and starts dominating the sector of CHEAP CONSUMER GOODS and all of the sudden the sky is falling.
Coral Taxi: Here's two more... GE and their Electric Boat division building submarines and GM with the Abrams tank. So now we're up to three and I bet there are others. Sounds to me like Crystal has proved her point and more than met your little challenge.
Irregardless is a doulbe negative and not a word.
#6.9 - Fri Apr 1, 2011 10:31 AM EDT
I get it you guys have to pick on something right lol ..
take it up with www.dictionary.com
btw doulbe is not a word either...
[ir-i-gahrd-lis] Show IPA
–adverb Nonstandard .
regardless.
Origin:
1910–15; ir-2 (probably after irrespective ) + regardless
—Can be confused: irregardless, regardless (see usage note at the current entry ).
—Usage note
Irregardless is considered nonstandard because of the two negative elements ir- and -less. It was probably formed on the analogy of such words as irrespective, irrelevant, and irreparable. Those who use it, including on occasion educated speakers, may do so from a desire to add emphasis. Irregardless first appeared in the early 20th century and was perhaps popularized by its use in a comic radio program of the 1930s.
Nondisirregardlessness aside, what does this have to do with jobs (except for lexicologists)?
@ ceo; It wasnt an impossible challenge, just to prove a point that defense does not lead in manufacturing,I took a quick look at the list,so I knew I could of been wrong. We still rock, even at our lowest economic times. I will concede defense does create jobs, but I would not call us a war machine. Russia is the one creating weapons for export, more so than we do.
I Live In San Francisco. They are building the new Bay Bridge(Oakland side of Yuerba Buena island)With components made in China. When the original Bay Bridge was built the steel was transported by rail from Pittsburgh PA. (this makes me angry, as I am a transplant from central PA and I know this area is very very economically depressed)
One of the things we are number one in manufacturing Caterpillar Earth Moving Equipment. We even export the equipment to China as they are building up their infrastructure. (something we should do, but would rather wait untill a bridge collapses, before fixing it or replacing it with Chinese parts)
GE (who paid no taxes, actually received a return for 2010) manufactures many military products.
I call B.S.
You have 80-100 people applying for a so-so job that would have got 3 applications 4 years ago.
Just another fairy tale for the weak minded.
You call it correct, BS it is.
230,000 people call it being EMPLOYED. Go ask them if its BS, schmuck
I find it absurd that the right can say 33 Billion off only 12% of the budget isnt a drop in the bucket and is significant progress, but 230,000 people getting a job is somehow insignificant or 'BS'. FAIL
Sorry to correct you, but 33 Billion is only about 1.2 % of the budget. Have you had you wage stopped. It usually 100% if self employed. 40% if you have insurance for unemployment
Going in the right direction, but still a long way to go. The shame is all the opportunists and greedy scum who have taken their money due to deregulation, falsification and driven the economy into the ditch are still gaming the system and are in league with the GOP to do it again at the cost of the middle class. Too bad so many in this country are the unwitting dupes of this conspiracy. I guess it's a product of the deteriorating US education system-people are just dumber and more interested in beliefs and 'values', than facts . What ye sow, so ye shall reap, it seems.
hey if you cut educations like the republicans wish to do .. the already stupid people will think high unemployment and low wages are normal. who is going to fight something the seems normal and accepted?
Those of you "party" loyalists crack me up. So you want to bash the GOP all the while you've got clowns like Barney Frank making a mockery of the rule of law. LOL.
the GOP took money out of your pocket back in 2008... others lost jobs, homes, and retirement.... like it or believe it or not... who is the clown now eh?
It must be a jagged little pill for all the naysayers about Obama to see that what he's doing is working!!! I knew you could do it Mr. President, keep up the good work. Can you imagine how good the job market is going to be when he gets reelected?
So you give sole credit to Obama when this started turning around almost immediately after the Republican gains in November. He has been in office for two years with complete dem control and it just so happens that right after repubs gain back the house we start making improvements. Read the article it says PRIVATE sector jobs lead way not PUBLIC if it were public I would say your right but because its PRIVATE I think you need to reevaluate your thinking. When he gets reelected???? Wow you really are an optimist!!!
hey Dave, it took the GOP 8 years to drive the economy into the ditch and Obama inherited a near depression when he took office. Obama has done nothing, you say? How about averting a total friggin economic meltdown! I guess you don't get the news under a rock. Now you're so delusional you think the GOP has done 'something' in 4 months other than whining, crying and saying no, no, no? LOL. You are the living, walking, talking April Fools Joke.
Please do elaborate on which of Obama's policies have most contributed to job creation. Please be specific.
Thank you,
WinkWink
Never in my mind does a true leader blame someone else for his short comings. How long do you intend to blame Bush. This will be in the history books under Obama presidency do not blame me its all Bush's fault. It was him who kept Gitmo open, it was him some how who invaded Libya, it was him who wasted two years working on the Healthcare legislation and forgot to do anything else. Do you think the public wants to hear that its the last presidents fault. Who is in charge now? So your saying if we want answers we need to find Bush and say why is the economy still F'ed up? Why is it that GE paid NOT a CENT in taxes this past year I guess thats Bush's fault too? Is two years not enough to judge a presidents on his agenda? So you can prove without a doubt that he averted a meltdown, really? Give me one source to look at who is not biased that can say with 100 percent accuracy that he saved us. So tell me why is it that the GOP has already passed the same number of budgets in 4 months in the house that the dems passed in two years?
David,
It's a fact that Obama inherited an economy that was in the ditch. Was it Bush's fault? Well, not entirely for sure, but that isn't really important. Whatever Bush's role was, it doesn't change the simple fact that Obama inherited an economy in the ditch, and it is recovering now.
The economy Obama got was far, far worse than what Reagan inherited. And now, we have the strongest job growth since 1983... when Reagan was president (just before he was reelected).
So, Obama has presided over just as strong a turn-around as Reagan did, but under more difficult circumstances. Not only was the economy better overall when Reagan took office, but he didn't have to fight two wars.
By the way, during Reagan's presidency and the economic turn-around, there was a democratic congress.
By the way, the republicans have passed ZERO budgets so far. They have passed multiple continuing resolutions, which is quite different than an actual budget.
. How long do you intend to blame Bush. This will be in the history books under Obama presidency do not blame me its all Bush's fault
I guess for as long as you keep foolishly defending Bush.
Bush was scum and oBOMBa is no different. This whole meltdown was inevitable over the course of many years going back to Clinton. The passing of NAFTA and the deregulation of Wall St., particularly the repeal of Glass-Stegall, all contributed to this mess. That along with the total incompetence of Alan Greenspans keeping interest rates too low for too long(sound familiar?). Total incompetence of the so called regulators on Wall St. to enforce ANY laws and now we have TBTF. oBOMBa could have done things alot different, like prosecute the criminals instead of bailing them out and paying them bonuses with our tax money, but no.
The GOP house has spent most of its brief time so far time going after Unions, defundingNPR, passing short term budgets (adding MORE uncertainty to economic policy), and worrying about enforcement of the defense of marriage act.
Now explain to me how and why they deserve ANY credit for the recent job turn around.
Who says Obama is humorless? This is a pretty good April Fools joke.
Just because the worst may be behind us does not mean that things are great. One reason for the slight dip in the unemployment rate is that the labor market is not growing, people have dropped out and are no longer looking for employment. Wages are not rising while inflation is going up. And our longer term financial picture looks horrible with deep government spending cuts coming at all levels. We have some tough choices to make and the results will be painful for many.
The fact that the November elections put a restraining order on the Obama agenda and people and businesses are responding positively is a very good thing. But putting Obama in a straight-jacket is hardly the more positive news that is needed to move the economic recovery from a slow growth to a more robust one.
Damn this is bad news, if this trend continues we will have a hard time defeating Obama in 2012.
The Republican leadership.
by November OF NEXT YEAR IT COULD BE DOWN AROUND 6%, WOULDN'T THAT BE GREAT!!!
Nope, Obama is making it easy for his downfall, after all, all it took was a shellacking in Nov. of the Obama agenda to get the economy going again.
Actually this is great news for Republicans after all everything started tuning around once they took back the house and seats in the senate. What dems need to worry about is as much as they think the American public is stupid, people are a lot smarter than they think. Blaming a shut down on Republicans does not even make sense when this is the budget for this year that they did not pass when they had complete control and now the Repubs are having to clean up the mess they left behind. But yeah force a shut down and lets just see who the public blames. The Republicans already passed a budget in the house(if dems wanted to avoid a shutdown they could just pass the one that passed the House or at least amend it and send it back to the House for a vote) and are putting out a new one for next year in a week or two. Yet the Dems want to blame repubs if there is a shutdown. Well where is the Dem budget? Does it exist? How do you divert blame from dems for this?
John,
With so many unemployed and so much misery do we really have to make this the gop vs the dems? Leave it alone today. You can bash Bush and Regan tomorrow.
So I should pretend that the Gov't is working together and the GOP is not out to discredit the president any chance they get.
Sorry, I can't stand many people in both parties but the GOP takes the cake.
John, So you were not in the Country when the Dems jammed everything they could through and told the GOP to go pound sand? I have said it a million fucing times. Both are a bunch of corrupt need to go traitors.
You must be referring to the time when Obama won the presidency with a substantial majority and the republicans were filibustering everything. I liked that I got $400 cash in my pocket the last 2 years because of the stimulus
I like that someone is finally doing something about the rising cost of healthcare, remember the GOP said NO to everything except extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy and they held peoples unemployment benefits hostage so they could get them. Now all they seem to care about is finding new ways to restrict abortions and screw the poor and middle class.
Reagan and the 2 Bushes were not as heartless as this bunch.
John, what exactly has oBOMBa done about the rising cost of sickcare? They are STILL on a parabolic climb. The new sickcare legislation was written by industry lobbyists. Who do you think it benefits the most?
Be patient, there are so many Obama haters here it is scary. I guess if McCain/Palin had won everything would be coming up roses.
We would be in a @!$%#ing depression and waging 5 wars right now.
@JohninPA
And 4 years ago the unemployment rate was half of what it is today. Half the amount of workers applying to open positions. What's your point?
Really, it comes down to two things for people on the right: Obama is a Kenyan Socialist and a strong economy means that he's reelected.
If Obama pulled 20 million great paying jobs ouf of his butt I would vote for him. Yes, he is a Kenyan Socialist but at at time when we owed too much to start 'priming the pump'. The guy is stuck between a rock and a hard place. I don't envy him but I think he is starting to learn. I think many of these jobs are do to the GOP stomping spending and the Nov midterms gave business hope that Obama care will be gone.
But no matter what where whom let's hope this tiny fraction of light is the light at the end of the tunnel.
@ ProgessivesNow-Phony news flashes ain't gonna cut it dude-I'm an unemployed tradesman who can't find a job...I'm a swing voter and this guy is toast.
Propaganda don't pay the bills,not mine,anyway.
And I don't care who they run against him-my theory is take out the old garbage first-the moldy bad stuff-and thats Obama.
And what could have Obama done, or not done that would affect your current situation.
Are you actually Joe the Plumber.
It is totally obvious that Obamas health care reform has clearly taken hold and now the government policies are beginning to take effect. Or they just do not count all the unemployed anymore, one of those is the truth.
Irvmani; You have A very good point about the health care, starting to bend the curve, The state of Vermont is going to single payer, and when they were introducing the plan the whole room of people was almost over joyed to hear it, this could be what the whole country needs to do, go to single payer, the deficit would drop down very fast if they do !!!
Irvamni: Actually Obama care's good parts started. That negative has not and don't forget it's been challenged in court and ruled unconstitutional. Could the possible reversal of Obama care and the GOP standing firm on spending be the reason some cheap money jobs are starting to show up on the radar?
The only part of the health care reform bill that is being challenged is the mandate. The part that forces deadbeats to buy in, so everyone else doesn't have to pay for their sorry ass.
These numbers are LIES I tell ya !!! Propaganda !! Perception is Reality !! Until the Creditors call for their money !! Just like Japan has got its power plants under control !! HA,HA,HA !!! Believe NONE of what you hear and half of what you see !! Prepare for the worst !!!!!
Oil continues to rise, tax credits being not renewed, long term unemployed dropping of the statistics, every single housing market has shown new lows comparable to 2003 levels, new "jobs" include professionals who are now working in the food industry making minimum hourly wages ... This statistics means nothing, the buying power of the American consumer will take years if not decades to get out of this. The net loss the average American consumer has taken in their retirement funds, home values and adjusted for inflation/ cost of living actual pay reduction over the last few years is not going to be restored by the start of the warmer weather temporary employement jump. These people are not able to buy houses and to qualify for mortgages etc .... My house purchased 8 years ago is now worth less than what I paid for it ... 8 years ago ... this will not be made up in the next 1, 2, 3 ... 5 years.
Yep, reminds me of the speech Albert "Einstein" Gore gave to the UN in 2000. He stated that Americans are to greedy and consume way to much of the earth's resources and it is time to level the playing field...it is being leveled alright....soon we will be on par with Kenya
On one hand this (216,000 jobs created) is a good news, in the sense most of them are in the private sector and at the same time many governments (local, state, and federal) are cutting the fat due to their budget constraints. Long term, we want and need private sector to create sustainable jobs and bring the real employment to the levels seen in the last years of Bill Clinton presidency.
That said, many readers are right in pointing out that the real un-employment is still somewhere around 17% of the working adult population (see government Bureau of Labor statistics) and there are about 22 million people who are either totally out of job (12.5 million) or in part-time job (looking for full time) or dropped out of the labor market since they tried and couldn't get a job. I call them Forgotten 22 and their lives and the families are shattered beyond repair. Even those who could come back into workforce with a full time job will be get a pay check much lower than what they were getting before with a lower standard of living.
Obama and his economic team should think on ways to shrink the government bureaucracy and at the same time provide enough stimulus for private sector job creation in pharma, medical devices, healthcare, industrial manufacturing, high-tech manufacturing, clean energy generation, etc.
We have lost an entire generation of electronic manufacturing to China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. There is no reason why we should/could not bring them back to this country. As an example, most of the work done by Chinese Hon Hao Manufacturing for Apple should be brought back and we have enough skilled people who could do this here, except that Steve Jobs and his Silicon Valley buddies are more interested in their profits and the cheap foreign labor. Those are some of the structural issues policy planners and decision makers have to focus on in order to provide a sustained economic recovery.
excellent and insightful post - we really don't like reality..we liked to live in a right versus left world and that doesn't cut it and hasn't cut it for decades
Kirk - I second that! Great post Nash. The blame game is so freaking old on the vine.
"We have lost an entire generation of electronic manufacturing to China, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. There is no reason why we should/could not bring them back to this country."
Never going to happen because the product will become unaffordable if the US makes it.....
Fkn' GOP'er are going to have a heart attack when they see this news.
Many of my friends who lost jobs due to previous administration's incompetence, have found jobs now. And there are job openings everywhere.
Choke on it, MF'ers!
I guess you missed the part where the economy lost 350,000 + jobs in March
AZ - Very nice. Thanks for the post. Intelligent, articulate and full of in-site. Gosh I hope we get to read more of your witty analysis.
Yes, Kirk, we know. But the news is for once there was net gain. Disappointing to you, I'm sure. Limbaugh might have a heart attack over this news.
For those who can't stand good news..you should consult psychologist as you are really a hopeless human being...pity on you...
Just think what the numbers would be If the Republicans, and tea baggers would start working with the country, instead of dragging their feet to make Obama fail!!!
Jacky and Dale. I'm giving you Friday off! Go outside and have some fun. Okay?
As I posted, we have a huge problem in this Nation and that's the older worker whom is not being handed much in this limp recovery. I'm on unemployment AGAIN and sure I can find a job but it won't pay the mortgage and mine is about 200 bucks a month more than rent.
I had to call unemployment yesterday. 3 hour wait! The nice lady told me all day she hears the same old story. If you are over 45 never mind. We both agreed that no real recovery will take place until the millions of older workers are rehired at a living wage. That's the story you won't see anywhere in the press.
Yes, and unfortunately most of the younger workers are under educated.
Don't give up! You have the experience and the wisdom and that's worth far more than any upstart can imagine.
Yes Crystal. I was raised that education was the key. LOL. My supervisor has a GED - I have a BS in Business Admin. Business Management major. Graduated Summa. Six-Sigma Green Belt. Certified Manager Cert. I self-taught myself to be a Malware Analyst and got the job. But when the cuts came I found out I was being paid too much. Also I'm 54 and have diabetes.
But my 36 year old supervisor with her DUI's and 5 past bench warrants is in charge and has a job. I hope she can figure out how to use Excel.
Well, my father who is on his late 50's got a higher paying job a few years ago at the worst of it. It's possible, just got to keep looking. As to the whole concept that this hiring is being driven by republican control of the house. Foolishness. If one was looking for stability, things are even more unstable now. House=repubs, Senate=dems. Nothing will get done legislative wise so that theory goes away. Even if people decided to start hiring due to the repub control of the house, extension of tax cuts, etc, people don't just hire people for no reason. There has to be an underlying demand for goods that requires more workers to meet. Reports before Nov., that many on here denounced as lies, had stated that demand for many goods and services was building, and eventually, businesses would have ot hire to keep up with that demand. Some on here are hilarious. The reports are lies! The good news is due to tax cuts and repub control of the house! Which one is it? They can't be lies and truth at the same time. To conclude, some of the hiring might be from repub control of the house, but it most likely is a sign that there is a greater demand for things, which is the sign of an improving economic situation, which if you look at it honestly, is at least partly due to the stimulus, bailouts etc that Obama put in place to keep things from going completely under.
Thanks Velmann! I'm staring my own business. Private Investigations. That's how I found out my X super is a dirt-bag but the darling of the right person in my X company.

Not by a long shot. Obama is a terrible leader.
