The Blockbuster kiosk in Publix has a much larger selection than the red box down the street at Walgreens, but the damn thing would not accept my zip code. If they can't get their machines to work they are done!
Sorry blockbuster. your time has come and gone. Netflix is way much better, and unfortunately for you at Blockbuster, you will soon be following in the footsteps of Hollywood Video that got too damn greedy and cheated the customers.
Blockbuster cheated my out of hundreds of dollars, I signed up for one month and they charged me for a whole year. They can burn in hell for all I care.
I hope Blockbuster charges themselves a ridiculous late fee just because they want to. Blockbuster lost me as a customer a long long time ago. Back when they were kingshyt of video, they just abused their customers and really didn't care because they were all that. Well, they can lick my sweaty groin now. I love Netflix. Blockbuster has such bad-will built up with me (and I am sure many others) that I love watching them go slowly and painfully into bankruptcy.
I wouldn't say Netflix "stole business" as stated in the article, they were just smarter at the game. Who wants to pay $10 to rent a movie for 3 weeks? I only need it for a night for a buck! Netflix & Redbox are game changers just like Blockbuster was a game changer for the mom & pop video shops.. BLOCKBUSTER came in 2nd place, and 2nd place is the 1st loser!
Agreed. Your customers aren't "stolen"... you LOST them to a business that is doing it better. Why drive to a Blockbuster when I can use Netflix for $10/month and stream the movies directly through the Playstation 3?
Netflix didn't steal their business. Blockbuster treated their customers like crap and ripped them off. Netflix opened up an new business for the people and the people went for it. Don't have to drive to a video-store, low rates, and now instant streaming to your tvs.
Netflix is like the iPhone. They created something the people wanted and Blockbuster sat back ripping the people off.
This is so sad. Blockbuster has raped and pillaged with exorbitant late fees and now they are going out of business whats a person to do. ROFLMAO good riddance to rubbish!
Not a chance for this company to survive. They are under an unmanageable mountain of debt. Too many fat cats milking millions off the top over the past 20 years, combined with a flawed business model. Bye, bye, Blockbuster and your retarded late charges.
Another example of an old school, brick-and-mortar, operation so busy with counting cash and overcharging customers -- taking itself and them for granted -- that they never saw the train coming.
There's more than one lesson there. I wonder if the current crop of CEO's are paying attention....
There is nothing Blockbuster can do to get me in their store again. For the one that I'll go is closing, and I certainly won't go out of my way to shop at one that will remain open. Why substitute what you want, for what they have available, if the movie you want are all rented out? You're still paying to rent the movie. Even renting a movie for a dollar, that still adds up.
yea, and how about that desperate move last year where suddenly every movie in the store -- even the 99 cent rentals -- suddenly went to$5.00? That was a nice deft touch.
I walked out, returned home, and enrolled in Netflix on the spot. Haven't darkened the door of Blockbuster since.
Gee, I can't understand why these folks don't just try something else. Maybe they could sell web browsers. Perhaps they could produce an ugly, unreliable car with a push button transmission. //sarc off
I quit Blockbuster, again recently because the new releases just prior to sending them kept changing to "on order". It happened over and over again. I believe their suppliers were not sending them the stock because they probably aren't getting paid.
Netflix has become useless to me. They kept raising their prices for blu ray rental, and most new releases were held back a months. So, neither company is any use to me.
If i where Blockbuster I would ask the customer what they can do to better the customer service. Also, what should should we do to get their business back. Or have a contest as to how can we create a more innovative way to serve the movies. Something to think about. Ask the youth!
This what happens when a big company over leverages, expands, fails to change with the times... all while the foundation under them begins to crack under the weight of it all. They are like the GM of video stores.
How were late fees ripping anyone off? First of all, you signed up for Blockbuster knowing up front that if you didn't return your movies on time you'd have to pay a fee. If you are so irresponsible that you can't manage to bring the movies back, then you deserve to pay the fees that you agreed to. If you can't afford the late fees, then you were just dumb to sign up in the first place.
I'm not a big Blockbuster fan either, but if you have a limited inventory and you let people use that inventory for as long as they want to, how do any other people get access to it and how do you make any money at all?
Let's say you rent a hotel room for one night. The room is also booked for the following 5 nights by other people. At checkout you decide that you want to stay another day...maybe a whole week. Should the hotel give you the room free of charge for as long as you want simply because you decided that you want to extend the time frame for which you signed an agreement? How long could you stay in business unless you recouped the money that you're losing by not being able to rent the room other individuals.
You may not like the business model that they used, but you DID sign up for it of your own free will. It's about time some people realize that they are responsible for their own actions (or inactions)!
If you have some sort of legitimate complaint about them screwing you over, then this obviously does not apply to you.
blockbuster offers a service that is convenient if you follow the rules that you signed up for, late fees are only charged if you are not responsible enough to bring your movies back on time,Redbox charges late fees if you don't bring their movies back on time, why should it be different for blockbuster, i don't hear any of you commenting on that. Maybe if people were responsible for their own actions they would'nt complain about paying late fees when they return thier movies far beyond there due dates, blockbuster charges the same rate for late fees as redbox does so to solve your complaints its simple RETURN YOUR MOVIES ON TIME AND THERE WON"T BE LATE FEES, blockbuster gives you 3 days after the rental period

As Shugga-Shugga says: Bye, bye, bye
Yep... justice is served. Blockbuster had this coming. They treated their customers like cattle, assuming they had the only grass on the lot.
Oops.
Oh, and you can stick your pious values inside your Chapter 13 boys...

Netflix Rules!

they are greedy bastards they got what they deserved!

There's more than one lesson there. I wonder if the current crop of CEO's are paying attention....
And the company's effort to "sell itself" reminds me of the old SNL skit, Daily Affirmations:
"Cuz' I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darnit, I'm worth it!!"

It's over guys, steal the laptops and move on.

Stop cheating people would be a good start...but too late now.
This what happens when a big company over leverages, expands, fails to change with the times... all while the foundation under them begins to crack under the weight of it all. They are like the GM of video stores.
it's game over for blockbuster.
Just a late-fee collection operation anyway.
i hope something comes along and puts bank of America underground that would be awesome!
