I am not a fan of Olbemann. Agree or disagree with his views, and there are times the guy makes may blood boil, Olbermann is still intelligent. I am usually of opposing views with him but I will admit that we need critics from both sides to help keep the politicians straight. Wish he had gone to CNN, so he would have a larger audience, the Gore's channel.
Unfortunatley for the left wing media liberals dont sit slack jawed in front of the tv like the rightys do. You can see across the country where people are voting 50 - 50 dem/rep but right wing media gets higher ratings. It could be that the right wing media is such a puppet of the corporations that want to run america they get more money. But look at air america and current tv vs rush and fox. its not a 50 - 50 audience. It must be that while libs are out enjoying life the repugs are sitting in their bomb shelters yelling "TOLD YOU SO"
Hey, Toasty, the ultimate censorship vehicle - the Fairness Doctrine - is a 100% liberal entity. You know, the one that seeks to get rid of all conservative broadcasting. But, in true liberal tradition, I bet you have the perfect "oh, but that;s different" response, right?
"The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was, in the Commission's view, honest, equitable and balanced. The 1949 Commission Report served as the foundation for the Fairness Doctrine since it had previously established two more forms of regulation onto broadcasters. These two duties were to provide adequate coverage to public issues and that coverage must be fair in reflecting opposing views.[1] The Fairness Doctrine should not be confused with the Equal Time rule. The Fairness Doctrine deals with discussion of controversial issues, while the Equal Time rule deals only with political candidates."
How does this censor anything. It seems to say that opposing views should be allowed to present their position. That results in more conversation, not less.
The two idiots deserve one another! Bet his channel is a flop! Gore will probably ask for legislation to force people to watch especially our children to push his "world is flat" agenda! Notice that the ice increases in the Antarctic is blamed on global warming and the decreases in the Arctic are blamed on global warming. If it is 70 degrees in the winter or 0 degrees, both are global warming. If it is raining or a drought, no hurricanes or many hurricanes, record snow or no snow, all is global warming. And if that don't work, just falsify the scientific data! What morons to believe such a wind bag!!!
Unfortunatley for the left wing media liberals dont sit slack jawed in front of the tv like the rightys do. You can see across the country where people are voting 50 - 50 dem/rep but right wing media gets higher ratings.
Yeah, being educated to the issues is such a burden.
Especially when liberal view points, ideology, beliefs and voting is based solely on emotional reaction and "feeling".
So now the excuse as to why all entities of liberal mass media are getting crushed in the ratings and Air America went bankrupt, is because while right wingers are watching the issues, while you libs are out running through flower fields and hugging trees?
I agree with all the naysayers on global warming. Why in the world should we listen to educated professionals when we can bow to and obey the great rightwingnut talkinghead entertainers? THEY'RE the ones laughing all the way to the bank with the money and blessings of the mentally challenged. If they're that rich they HAVE to be smart. Isn't that the American Way?
The Gore Channel, where bulimia sufferers go to purge.
With olberman joining the wacko channel the inevitable cancellation will be coming sooner than expected! Hopefully Rachel Madow will join them too for a perfect socialist trifecta! A government grant is the only way that outfit will survive....!
How does this censor anything. It seems to say that opposing views should be allowed to present their position. That results in more conversation, not less.
It doesn't censor.
What it does, is forces an opposing view point on to people who don't want to listen to it.
Air America went bankrupt, because nobody listened to it. MSNBC's ratings are in the toilet, because nobody wanted to watch it. Same with newspapers and magazines. The NYT, Washington Post, LA Times subscriptions is at an all time low, Newsweek was sold for pennies, because nobody bought that rag magazine anymore.
So all these liberal based shows and "news" outlets can't compete for ratings, listeners, viewers and readers, because the majority of people chose to listen to conservative radio, Fox News and read the WSJ, so liberals want to be able to FORCE people to listen to them now.
Oh no, you don't have the right, personal freedom or choice to turn the channel away from our liberal view point and crazy ideology, we're now gonna get the government to FORCE you to listen to us.
Toasty ("Toasty"?, lol) censorship is one of the liberals (read socialists) most effective weapons. They can't handle the truth or any opposing view. Narrowmindedness is olberman's primary characteristics and he obviously has a following of other tunnel vision folks. speaking of which... look for this post to be 'collapsed by community'
The doctrine says that opposing views should be given air time, but it does not say you are required to watch or listen. The airways are not owned by the broadcasters, they are leased from the government, we the people, all of the people. Even those who's views you disagree with. But that disagreement does not take the rights of those wanting to express them away.
Fox claims "Fair and Balanced" why not let that happen across the board?
Fox news only has better ratings because they put it on in places where watching TV is the only thing to do... like in waiting rooms, or at your crazy religious grandparents house who just hate anyone who isn't an old white douche bag.
I'm sorry, but I've watched both networks because I seriously wanted to know if I was just brainwashed by the left-wing media and I can say for sure that Fox does not talk about news. They talk about what they want you to think is the truth. If you think Fox "news" actually reports the news.. then you're seriously disconnected from reality. MSNBC is afraid to report real news too, its not as fake and made up, but it is seriously distorted.
You said channel block, so I assumed it was to prevent your kids from hearing a dissenting view or something. Like I said, you teabaggers sort of have a history of this "la la la, I can't hear you" mentality... Although it is kind of amusing seeing them all scramble to turn it around and accuse liberals of censorship.
Constant reference to ratings are a bit simple minded. If you look at any of the "News" channels, none have very high ratings compared to regular entertainment channels.
It could be that those of us on the liberal side of the planet don't need to be fed a constant stream of unfounded, opinion based, "information" from a television talking head to form our beliefs.
The (fairness) doctrine says that opposing views should be given air time, but it does not say you are required to watch or listen.
vwterry - the problem arises when stations that broadcast to a particular demographic are forced to air programs that are antithetical to their usual audience. As a result their ratings go down, their advertisers stop advertising and, ultimately, the station goes under or changes format away from opinion/discussion to "all oldies all the time".
Imagine Air America plugging in 3 hours of Limbaugh between Al Franken and Rachel Maddow! Or how about a religious station having to air atheist opinion in the name of fairness? At the moment conservative talk shows seem to dominate the broadcast networks so it is understandable that liberals would want to impose the 'fairness doctrine' as a means of shutting them down. Contrary to its claim of fairness and its intent to foster the dissemination of ideas and opinions, the doctrine isn't fair and tends to stifle discussion rather than promote it.
"The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was, in the Commission's view, honest, equitable and balanced.
Because you can’t be trusted with your own ‘view’ the commission will decide for you. You cannot be trusted to decide what is ‘controversial’ or what is of ‘public interest’ either. Thank goodness there is a 10 square mile area between Maryland and Virginia where the anointed will TELL you what is ‘fair’.
Wait a minute--the mass media is supposed to be "liberal," right? Fox News is watched only by a tiny number of people in contrast to the mass media, isn't it? Wouldn't this mean that most people are watching "liberal" television news?
I have a very hard time following the (il)logic of people who watch Fox News. Yes, MSNBC used to be openly left of the political spectrum. With the acquisition by Comcast, I am sure this will rapidly come to an end--particularly given that they are allowing MSNBC to basically destroy itself by moving their weakest performer to the key position.
Still, if Fox News is the poor little underdog fighting so hard to inform people despite the overwhelming voice of the mass media, then doesn't it stand to reason that Fox News is watched by fewer people and supported by fewer people than the mainstream media is?
Why, then, is anyone talking about how Fox News is theoretically watched by more people and no one watches or listens to "left wing" news--so Fox and conservative media is crushing left wing news?
Could people at least be consistent here? And, since when does the Fairness Doctrine force anyone to listen to anything. The Fairness Doctrine is supposed to make it a "requirement" that both views be presented--if you don't want to listen, then you turn it off, right? Or, you put your fingers in your ears and sing la-la-la? And, isn't it theoretically Fox News that presents "both sides" because it is "fair and balanced" and it has more liberals on its show than MSNBC has conservatives?
Or, am I barking up the wrong tree expecting those who like Fox News to actually make sense? Any Fox News lovers want to be consistent here? Anyone?
Toasty ("Toasty"?, lol) censorship is one of the liberals (read socialists) most effective weapons. They can't handle the truth or any opposing view.
Funny how this thread is almost all conservatives shouting down 'any opposing view' - perhaps censorship is not an exclusive province of the left.
If you don't like Olbermann, don't watch him, simple as that. This deal will almost certainly lift Current from obscurity, whether or not he makes them as popular as he did MSNBC is less likely.
You need to come to reality and look at the facts. You say that TV, newspapers and magazines are struggling because of liberal viewpoints?
Here are the FACTS (I know you hate those). Younger generations do not use traditional media, meaning that younger generations do not watch as much TV, read newspapers or magazines. Statistics actually show that in younger demographics, all media consumption is moving online. Almost everyone I know connects there computer straight up to their TV and streams programs straight from the internet. I don't know anyone under 70 that has picked up a newspaper or magazine in the last 3 years.
Face it, everything you stated is the media that older generations consume. I laugh when you talk about TV ratings, or newspaper readership. Those of us in the younger generations don't need an angry host yelling at the camera to deliver our news, we just look it up ourselves online. That is why I left the Republican party, I looked up everything they stated and found it was a lie. I don't care what your angry host says, I looked up the facts.
Olberidiot should retire and start preparing his Nobel Peace Prize speech for next year. If Obozo and Gore can get one, his is coming soon. I think Kanye West nominated him or something. When Keith left msnbc, Kanye grabbed the microphone in protest for that Chinese political prisoner getting one first and complained that Keith was the candidate who should have won the award or something???
dean314 said: "Why is the right wing so scared of Keith?"
You're joking, Right???? hardly... I wish him luck on another channel I won't watch and never did. Frankly I didn't know it existed before this article. I was curious who was dumb enough to pick him up, though...
I find it really funny when the left accuses the right of not listening to the liberal point of view. Let me clarify on behalf of those of us that HAVE made a choice: We choose the conservative route, both socially and fiscally, BECAUSE we have listened to the liberal agenda and do not wish to participate in it or with or even come close to it! We're done with it. Our nation has gone to the dogs because, and this is just my opinion, of the liberal agenda that keeps getting forced upon a nation that is still very right leaning. And we know from experience that you can not spend yourself to prosperity. It doesn't work- never has.
I see nothing wrong with dismissing anothers point of view when I've heard it before and already disagree with it. So far, I've seen nothing new to think about from the left. Offer something new- with substance- and I will listen, I promise.
I just can't stand the same old rhetoric (from either side truth be told...).
vwterry "The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was, in the Commission's view, honest, equitable and balanced." How does this censor anything. It seems to say that opposing views should be allowed to present their position"
Please note the bold portion of the above. What makes you think that the "Commission's view" would be anything other than the political view of the President, since he appoints the majority of its members?
Why must you always look for the worst in our fairly elected officials. Paranoid much?
I posted this information in the form of a question to spider and the assertion that this doctrine is somehow censorship by nature and wording. It does not say that only Democrat or only Republican presidents can appoint FCC officials.
May I explain the importance of fingers? For knee-jerk reactionaries who hate Keith Olbermann, there are several things you can use your fingers for, besides smearing your excrement on yourselves and walls.
You can touch the "off" button on your TV and make Keith magically disappear. You can put your fingers in your ears and you won't hear him. You can touch the off/on and/or mute button(s) on your your remote control unit and Keith will disappear and/or shut up.
You can put your finger in a wall socket. Here, I have a finger for you now.
David Walker - the 2nd paragraph was wonderful, the 3rd paragraph were you tell people to go kill themselves because they don't like what you like really explains what kind of person you are.
Looks like my nightly news will no longer come from MSNBC. Glad to see Kieth back. Next step will be to make sure my current cable package has current TV.
For all you KO haters.... go watch Glen Beck, and call Goldline while your at it.
A gold medal for you in "Conclusion Jumping". Where did I say what I liked and didn't like? Take the silver and the bronze too. You know what kind of person I am, based on a single post? Wow!
Wow! I always find it funny how people with left leaning stances always point to big business being behind the Right when big business is behind every political ideology...it just differs on which pocket they get their money from. So for all you that like to point out Rupert Murdochs name here is a little name for you George Soros.
Umm Tom, I want to point one thing out to you: The left isn't afraid of Sarah Palin. The love her. They want her to run. They know that if she ran, and managed to get on the ticket, it would be as if she were a gift from God to the left wing, because she would have the lowest voting numbers from intelligent americans than any other candidate in the country. Not even her own party trusts her enough to try and run this country
How people can actually listen to an imbecile who assigns "Worst person in the world" awards for people who different views than him shows just how hateful his viewers are. What is that but pure, cheap, hateful, rhetoric? This is what happens when people decide to allow a football announcer to feed them political opinions.
David Walker - Your Quote - "You can put your finger in a wall socket. Here, I have a finger for you now. "
Yes that pretty much explains what kind of person you are, I didn't need to jump to any conclusion to figure it out. Good people never wish others dead even if the others don't believe the same as you.
Toasty you area raving idiot if you think it is censorship to block a channel on your cable box. You think a parent doesnt have a right to choose what their children watch. Go look up the definition of censorship before you start throwing the word around like you know what you are talking about. Man you Libs dumb sometimes.
My Comcast does not carry Current. I contacted them. Please, everyone, if you have Comcast and they don't carry Current, you can send them a request by going to http://www.comcast.com">www.comcast.com and scrolling to the very bottom of the page. Click on 'Comcast.com Feedback'. It doesn't look like you could use that form, but they assure me that it can be used for suggestions. Just use the comment box, put your accoiunt info in, and ask for Current TV
Yes, Lunchbox, lord help you if you should ever, ever by chance hear a view opposing your own. That would be terrible! Why it may even cause you to think and we wouldn't want that!
Olberman was not able to live up to his fantasy of being objective.
So joining a liberal propaganda channel will at least let him drop the pretense of objectivity.
It should make his life easier at least, imagine how hard it was for him to live that lie. I'm sure he will feel better now that he is out of the closet.
DirecTV - channel 358. And I'm pretty WOO HOO about this. I can TIVO O'Donnell and Olbermann, as I bet they will be going head to head at the 8pm slot.
Also, VP Gore said that Olbermann could make political contributions because it is a first amendment right; so, neener neener to MSNBC.
I started watching Countdown because Keith was hosting it. I missed his humor on the sports broadcast and didn't even know he did much of anything else. His Countdown show was a great and fun surprise. It's a shame the right wingers want to tell us that we shouldn't be watching such things. Instead we should be entertained with the unstable in front of blackboards trying to explain their bizarre delusions.
wag-889018 - Right wingers don't give a crap about what you should be watching, they care about that you have the freedom to put whatever show on TV or radio that you want. (IE - Free Market)
So if somebody says that Maddow or Keith shouldn't be allowed on TV or radio they aren't a Right Winger, they are a communist.
Now if somebody says they shouldn't be on TV, well that is an opinion and everybody has the right to their own opinion.
I challenge any conservative here to do a fact check on Olbermann, then do one on Beck, O'Reilly, and Hannity. My guess is Olbermann has less errors in a year than any one of those three clowns has in day.
I will take that bet any amount of money, if you are going to give me one day against a year, I will take that bet every time (I will even include Hannity who never lets a fact get in the way of his view)
The right wing seems to care very much what is on television and the radio. The right wing, i.e. corporations, and their followers will not fund a show that challenges the unmitigated authority to make more money whatever the pain and suffering they cost to anyone else. Just read the comments from all these right wingers, they all say 'good riddance' and the like, and much worse. Not a one of them says 'I don't concur with many of his views but I support his right to say them and I encourage a diversity of ideas on the broadcast wavelengths.' The airwaves belong to the people, all of the people. Free markets are fine to sell bread and furniture but it should not place my property up for sale without my permission or profit.
wag-889018 - The right wing cares that they have the right to put their view on the radio or TV and that the government isn't going to decided what the people should listen to.
Keith Olbermann has every right to be on radio or TV, what he doesn't have the right to do is be on the air with the tax payers footing the bill.
Nobody I know believes Air America can't or shouldn't be on the air!
And if anybody believes Rush or Keith shouldn't be on the air, they are a communist!
Wag I have seen Keiths show maybe 15 or 20 times. i like to hear what the opposing view. not because i think i might learn somehting usefull from them but because i like pick apart their argument on my own. I have never seen an opposing view on Keiths show. He parades the sam bunch of Lib journalist through there that all agree with him. Hannity has an opposing view on his show every night. O rielly has as many Libs on his show as will agree to share the stage with him. Talk shows like Rush and Mark Levin put Lib caller to the front of the Line. we dont hide from opposing views the way libs do. we welcome them because we know it will take all of five minutes to pick you idiodic views apart. We arent the one affraid of opposing views. its the Libs that are.
I am so proud of those conservatives that have found out how to use their mute button!
Of course, the channel button might work better for you, although it is highly unlikely that you would tune to the channel in the first place, even if it were available. Then again, I think it would be best it your cable provider went the other way and decided to censor the conservative networks, don't you? I mean, you folks seem to think it's OK to only hear one side of an argument, so you wouldn't have a problem with that, would you?
I think it is terrific that Olbermann and Maddow bother you people so much. Accusing them of lying just because you disagree with them when you have no supporting arguments...but I guess that is how Fox News works, so it should not be surprising.
Left Wing, you need to show some of your friends how to use the channel selector and the mute button. Somehow they get fixated on Fox news and Sarah Palin. If they don't like the news or what they hear, you think they would simply turn the sound off or turn the channel. Pretty simple, but they don't seem capable. Either that or, they really are not in favor of free speech, and they prefer that no one speaks who has an an opposing view to theirs .
Heh, it really is fun watching Olbermann and Maddow make the teabaggers squirm.
Teabaggers, by definition, would watch Maddow and Olbermann.
Members of the TEA Party, however, are more interested in having a government and a media that is fair and addresses real issues.
I watch Fox News... and MSNBC...and CNN. And then I make decisions on reality and logic, not by calling someone "the worst person in the world". You should try it.
Doctor Larry says, "I watch Fox News... and MSNBC...and CNN. And then I make decisions on reality and logic, not by calling someone "the worst person in the world". You should try it."
Yeah, deciding if someone is a "Patriot or Pinhead" is much more effective.
lib50: it is obvious to the most casual observer that most of the posters today must be recent graduates of the Glenn Beck School of Deep Thinking. What a bunch of hateful, intolerant rightwing sycophants.
Lib50, you should watch Beck sometimes, or you ALLRIGHT with the BANKSTERS stealin TRILLIONS. Beck will tell ya ALL it's a good cop/badcop game, BOTH parties are playin against us! That being said Beck is owned by Murdoch and the Oil Ticks. Ever wonder why Murdoch runs liberal news everywhere else around the world. It's called the Benjies!
GTy--Just admit it...Christina Aguillara's a PINHEAD! SHE"S A SINGER!!! How many songs does she have to sing in her life before she learns just one verse of the national anthem??? It wasn't even the first time she didn't know the words singing solo at a sports event! Disgraceful!!! You'd think she would have learned it after the first time!
Some of these posts are flat-out hilarious. Like someone making the claim that Fox News was never brought up, despite it having been mentioned several times by people. Or others openly whining about hatred, then calling people "teabaggers", as if this is a term of endearment. Here is my take on Olbermann.
He's a political hack, nothing more, nothing less. Which serves to make him boring to watch. Same as Hannity is boring to watch. Why? Because no matter that the issue is both will blame the opposite political side, or blame their own side for not hammering away at the opposite side hard enough. Spare me. I'm a conservative and I love to discuss and debate issues with liberals, but this isn't either. One side flings poo at the other, and the other side returns with a volley of their own poo.
Just like Olbermann and Hannity are predictable, so are the vast majority of the posters on Newsvine. Mix it up a little, would you? Hammer at your own side when they are wrong, don't simply respond by saying the other side is worse. It might be true, but so what if it is? I'm glad Olbermann will go to Current. My only surprise is he isn't doing a web show for The Daily Kos, or maybe HuffPo. At least his viewers might number in the low 5 digits if he did.
Most pick a side and then their side can do no wrong. The left wanted Gitmo closed with Bush was president and now the defend that PBO hasn't closed it. The Right did the exact opposite.
You can look at any issue and if your side does it, it is great and if the other side does it, it is the worst thing ever.
I am way more conservative and Hannity is the worst person that does this and he won't even let the other side explain why they think they way they do.
Sounds like quite a few people on this board, you either believe what I say or you are a racist moron.
Now all I have to do is hope my cable T.V. company will carry this programing. At the very least, perhaps I may get to see some of Keith's segments on the net. I have always enjoyed Keith Olbermann and wish him the very possible best and success with any new venture he aspires to do. I have missed you from 'the tube' during your short absence. Welcome back, God Bless, and good luck Mr. Keith Olbermann!
I despise both parties, but I have had two one year vacations in the last 5 years and had to watch KO and MadCow for two years total on the only provided channel. I have never heard anyone, such as these two, twist quasi truth to such a degree to turn them into outright lies! Can't say I agree with the others, but at least you can see how they perciecve an event and relay it. These two clowns outright Lie!
Thank you Mac! We went through a year long vacation in our house, and can no longer take the stylings of Olberidiot. He twists the truth because he enjoys it.
Your welcome, even PBS gives reasonable facts. They way they put them togheter might not add up. But at least ya ain't dealin with lies, same goes with CNN. The only problem is ALL the stuff they do not cover.
Oberman is a flame thrower who facts or truth never confused him. IN Russia you were exiled to Siberia. Here it is the Al Gore channel. Never heard of it and now we will never hear from oberman again. good riddance!
Sounds like you guys won't miss Mr. Olbermann whatsoever. Great for you! Great for America. We all have free choices in this great country. That's why in the U.S. we make chocolate and vanilla, left and right, right and wrong, smart and dumb. The choice is up to each individual. But at the end of the day we should all join hands and be The UNITED States of America! Why? Because that is the ONLY way OUR country will survive in today's world! God Bless you both and God bless America!
scrambolo, what is your last name, brains? Olbermann is nothing more than a lie looking for some idiot to listen to his left wing propaganda. Him and his kind are destroying the free country I grew up in, and I'm not going to sit around and hold hands while all you brain dead people vote for some inept nut job like Obamie and listen to K.O. call us racist because we don't want to bend over to the Chinese and believe in him. You should get your head out of your butt and take a look at the freedoms, jobs and way of life that our government rep.'s have given away so as to make us into a third world bannana republic while they give our wealth to the Mexicans, Chinese, or anyone else that is unable to do for themselves. Oberbumm and Gore will make a good team, they are both lying pieces of dog s___...
GREAT for you John, I'm glad your not going to "sit around and hold hands...". From your post, I can see that you are going to sit around and bitch and moan about what everyone but YOU have done to destroy our freedoms and especially Keith Olbermann. I believe you have given him way too much credit for doing what has taken 40 or 50 years. But like I postered in #4.6, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion(s). So, I wish you good luck and success with your, your, your, ah, ah, OH, YOU DIDN'T SAY WHAT "YOU" ARE DOING, RIGHT? I guess your just going to post and tell the rest of us citizens how WE should think and act, RIGHT? And let certain people you have never met know just how rediculously stupid we all are, is that your very positive game plan? Just critize? I'm sure that will be a "game-changer", in YOUR mind at least!
The RRRRWW is totally freaking out about Keith Olbermann joining the (Al Gore) channel. Just saying those two names together makes them writhe and gnash their teeth! What gives, Batman?
Easy, Robin, it's the Demon of Intellectualism doing that...if they actually read, watch or view facts that don't reinforce their foregone opinions, the Demon activates and makes them crazy.
What should we do, Batman?
Nothing, my friend. They will have to find a way to defeat their Demon on their own.. this is one job in which even Batman cannot interfere.
LiberalLibrarian....huh? I don't care what Olbermann does, or doesn't do. His employment by Current TV means nothing to me, nor will it mean anything to the vast majority of humans on earth. It has nothing to do with Gore, or anyone else either. Olbermann is simply too boring to watch--he says nothing I've heard which is in any way unpredictable. He has a Pavlovian response to anything mentioned about conservatives, or Fox News, or constitutionalism, just as he does with anything mentioned about liberals, or anything they stand for.
What about such boring people intrigues you? I like to listen to people who are surprising and provocative and curious. Olbermann, like Hannity on Fox, isn't anything of the sort. Maybe Gore and Olbermann, et al, reinforce your liberal convictions and so you admire them for validating your life, but, dang woman, that would be pathetic. I hope it's nothing of the sort.
Oh, as an example of surprising, provocative, and curious, I would include the likes of Chris Hitchens, or Larry Eagleburger, or Richard Dreyfuss, or, from the ranks of the dead, Jeanne Kirkpatrick or William F. Buckley. Just to name a few. Olbermann will likely never be on this list, he simply hasn't the qualities needed to be curious or surprising, but he is often provocative.
The Republicans are smart enough to stop Sarah (ya Betcha) Palin from running for president in 2012. I think they have seen and heard enough from that 'one pony' show!
@getalifevirginia Ah, but the truly disturbed are 'stars' on Fox where they are allowed to rant ad nauseum fact-free or pull conjectures from thin air. Better to be homeless or in a small shelter than in that circus.
You didnt know it was true all along? that mentally ill people could get shows in news media? come on,sean hannity, rush limbaugh, bill oreily and my fav of them all glen beck...You conservs,so funny to watch.
KJ- Well, they were made for each other... And with them combined global warming will be a real threat--from all of their hot air."
Seriously, even you should know by now is climate problem is not just the "global-warming" that is taking place. The issue is Climate Change. Global warming (ie the rapid melting of polar ice) is just one of the many symptoms.
Ask the the Australians about their recent floods of "Biblical" proportions or maybe their 200 MPH cyclone. Ask New Yorkers about their snow-storms this year. Ask the middle-third of the US about the "catastrophic" blizzard they are just now digging out of.
I don't argue with your right to hold conservative views (if that is what you are). The continuing issue is that the right and far-right wingnuts do not want to engage in dialogue... they just want to spout the half-truth, whole crap that their billionaire puppet-masters feed to them.
Your comment seems to put you in the Glen Beck crowd... really! He is making $30 million a year from gold sellers who give their customer 50 cents worth of gold for a $1.50 investment... how much gold do you own?
People on both political extremes seem to think this is all about a "dual of honor" where the loudest, most extreme and "cutest" slur wins. America needs to move closer to a middle of the road approach that not only puts "America First" but also includes the "People of America" first.
You could help by a little less name-calling and a lot more listening.
KJ, How does it feel to be an unpaid shill for sick ba$7@rds who are trying to kill you for their own profit? You blathering, repugnant fool?
Ahh, wingnuts, so demented and depraved. They would be funny if they weren't trying to destroy the world for the bank accounts of fat-cats who could care less if they live or die...
The geologic record SHOWS that our current warming trend is UNPRECEDENTED in history. We're supposed to be slowly cooling into an ice age, and ALL measurements show we are warming RAPIDLY when all global temperatures are taken into consideration. Sea level will rise 20 FEET soon, ahole !!! It's already TOO LATE to do anything about it. WE CAUSED IT, and we probably can fix it if the current trends (electric autos, wind, solar, etc) are allowed to continue. I hope you live in Florida; then you'll see who is full of HOT AIR ...
I hear that gravity is a myth also. We should all just wake up and realize that there is no gravitational pull on the earth and act accordingly. This way all of the right wing tea bagger politicians can take the cast and crew of Fox Noise and go jump off the nearest bridge without fear. I mean if there is no such thing as global warming why should any of them believe in gravity?
All of the abnormal weather conditions you are describing can be explained by one simple fact...the poles are shifting and have been shifting just go to NASA's website. Everything that has been occuring is completely natural there is nothing "man-made" about it. It also explains all the bird/fish deaths recently. The poles shift once every half a million years and it hasn't happened in over a half-million years therefore we are due.
Best case scenario is natural climate change (we are talking catostrophic weather events like a thunderstorm with 200-400 mph winds no tornado needed) note that, natural, and worse case would be a complete polar shift which takes about 5 thousand years. If you didn't know the north pole becomes the south and vice--versa so you can imagine the changes that would occur.
To all the other comments on here about fox news being corporate puppets, its true, but before you call names please look at what youre watching. During the first half of Obama's presidency GE had 80% ownership of NBC/MSNBC. Being a viewer I am sure you all know that MSNBC is very pro cap-and-trade and healthcare. GE lobbied millions to both cap-and-trade and healthcare, why you ask?, because they would benefit greatly happens all the time it is called corporatism you should listen to Ron Paul more. GE also gave a large sum of money toward Obama's campaign.
Moving forward Ron Paul had audit the FED bill H.R. 1407 maybe? It made it to the "wall street reform bill" all-be-it very watered down due to the FED's influence. What we found out from that is that many foreign central banks and regular banks, verizon, CAT, and GE were also bailed out. Funny how we find out years later and also funny that GE was on that list. Also, funny that GE received billions in "stimulus" funds.
Bush had Cheney's Halliberton and Obama has GE as their dark horses. Almost forgot its funny how GE gets exempt from "greenhouse gas" regulations from the EPA so they can build coal plants when the competition cant.
I read all these comments and I'm heatbroken at how everyone is falling into the left-right paradigm. You do not have the freedom choice only the illusion of choice. Whether its left or right they work for the same corporations that lobby AND write the laws, the "important" ones atleast. At the same time they have news outlets (or should i say propogandists) like fox or msnbc the nyt wp that pick silly arguments to get us fighting one another about "racism" or "sexism" or "nationalism" when all we have to do is come together and demand the real truth.
Anybody that dismisses the overwhelming scientific evidence that Climate Change is occurring is automatically dismissed from ever being capable of rational thought.
Keep fightin the battle Jay, we ain't got long till this is ALL censored. Don't forget to tell people nobodys crying much about Haliburton anymore since George SOros drove the stock down by 66% and then bought 2 or 3 million shares two years ago. Now it's worth 3 times what he paid and they STILL are gittin nobid contracts!
Also for the Global Warming/Climate Change folks, make sure you tell them that BP is the largest owner of the Chicago and London Carbonm Credit Exchanges. Also AL Gore wll make a pretty penny also, even though his daddy gave him, what 6 million dollars worth of Occiental oil. We can go on with that, put it would take to long!
Cute statement regarding hot air and climate change. Sorry anyone in the US is so very misinformed (ignorant) regarding this. You know, you don't have to be a particular political party to comprehend a scientific truth. My heart goes out to you, but what century are you from???
Let me get this right...Jay agrees that things are changing, but because he disputes your claim that all changes are man-made you dismiss him as not believing that the climate is changing? How very scientific of you all. I don't think there is anyone that disputes the climate is changing. Not only is it changing, but it will continue to change, in cycles, until the earth is destroyed. One of you says we should be in a cooling cycle, and yet we are rapidly heating. Another says to dismiss global climate change means nothing you say is valid.
Fine, but all of those are opinions. Here's mine. If man is the cause of global climate change then why is Mars' climate changing? When we weren't looking did Bush build a secret factory system on Mars to pollute the place with greenhouse gases? That damn Bush! Look, this is far more complex than any of us know, but worse, it is continuing to evolve as a science, so pronouncements that we know everything and must act now are, at best, foolish.
Two generations ago an ice age was going to wipe us out if we didn't immediately alter our course. Oil would be gone as a useful commodity, used up completely, by 2,000 CE. Yet here we are today facing not an ice age but so-called global warming, and with more proven oil reserves than ever. I'm all in favor of "green" technology, just so long as there are no subsidies for creating it. Just like we should have no subsidies for oil, or coal, or anything else. Either it makes economic sense on its own, or it doesn't. I trust you eco-freaks will spend your hard earned cash on all sorts of green products and save the planet. Gosh you people are good.
Rich thank you for using common sense. In the 70's they did think there was going to be an ice age. Too many natural factors play into climate change: solar activity, change in our magnetic field, position on our axis, polar shifts, volcanic activity, earthquakes, etc
Subsidies are a great problem as well as regulations. When the government is involved they invest in things like ethanol a great failure which not only benefits just large corporations but made our fuel economy very inefficient (economy is supposed to equal efficienties in the market). 10% of our fuel is ethanol which burns less efficiently so big argiculture and big oil both benefit because us, the consumer, needs to buy more of said product. So why was the government involved?
I'm glad you said "save the planet". There is no saving the planet species go extinct everyday on this planet. We are just another species like an elephant, ant, or bacteria if mother nature wants to its adios amigos
Wow, what verbal venom (I know, cheap alliteration) a single comment can produce! It was a joke--remember them? To those who hurled insults at me, I simply laugh at you. You "true believers" take yourselves WAAYYY too seriously, and despite what you might think, you're not all that... I did like the "what century are you from?" question. How did you know that I have a masters degree in history and foreign languages?
Thomas H-2941886 - actually the earth's temperature has been cooling the last few year, but don't tell anybody.
Oh and to the person above asking what the middle of America thinks about shoveling out. pssst it is called winter, it happens every year, some years it is colder then others, and some years we get more snow then other years, the real crazy part is that has been happening for a long time now.
I remember a winter just like this when I was a wee boy. I'm in my 60's now. All these idiots preaching globle warming stand to make a fortune if they can get any-one to believe them. But who was it that said there's a sucker born every min. Now that we are having such cold weather, the global warmers have changed it to "climate change". Even Gore had to crawl back under his rock and try to come up with a new scam to put over on gullible America.
Keith had a sometimes bizarre sense of humor. Something that was definitely getting muted in the later days of his Countdown show. The MSNBC was not so heavily political in the beginning, there was a lot of celebrity news. Remember Keeping Tabs, that Olberman's producers 'were making him report? Oddball, was really odd at times and I would wait to make sure I saw 'Worst Persons.' I hope my local cable company picks the network up. It was a great several years. I knew what I wanted to do at 7pm central time for years and now, I believe there is a hole there. I have other things to do of course, but I sure looked forward to Countdown.
Well, there are many, who say the best news programs are indeed on the Comedy Channel with Jon Stewart and Steve Colbert. I watch them when I can and sure enough they are pretty factual.
Well, there are many, who say the best news programs are indeed on the Comedy Channel with Jon Stewart and Steve Colbert. I watch them when I can and sure enough they are pretty factual.
Yeah. They switched to the Comedy Channel when Looney Tunes went off the air.
"news". LOL. You might as well watch a fishing show for "news".
People who criticize the new, the left wing biased liberal news, no doubt, presume they already know the story, so you have to wonder why they watch at all. Afterall, don't they already know it all.
They swipe at Rachel because she is informed and does her research. By telling teabaggers she does her research all you have done is give them more incentive to hate her. Next time you want a teabagger to like Rachel tell them she lies and makes stuff up just like on FOX, they will love her.
Rachel Madcow, is nothing more then the Rush on the Left.. She is a political opinion piece. Her " Facts " get clouded by her political leanings and therefor, much like Rush, an Entertainer and NOT a source for real news.
Actually, Jeremy, that is a falsehood, but your bent is obvious by your use of the sophomoric "Madcow" name. Maddow researches her material and, while she is opinionated, hers is informed material while Limbaugh's rhetoric is simply meant to inflame, since that is what his audience thrives on. Additionally, Maddow has the courage to apologize when she or her staff has made a mistake, something Rush would never do, since he is perfect and never wrong...kind of like the attacks against drug addicts when it turns out he is one himself. Thanks for the "contribution" though...
Lib and the others defending Maddow... *there you happy I didnt use what I really think about her*
The only reason you think she gives you " Facts " is due to you sharing her liberal point of view. ANY Poll she ever uses is a left leaning poll. Just like Rush and Hannity will use a right leaning poll.
You say that Rush and Hannity base everything they have on their opinion, but Maddow doesnt? That makes you a 100 percent hypocrite. She tells you what you want to hear, nothing more and nothing less. JUST Like Rush and Hannity do on their programs.
I dont listen to Rush or Hannity anymore, but I can pretty much guarentee that the only thing you know about them are from the out of context, soundbites that Maddow and your leftist media sources give you.
the fact that you think that she deals in Facts, proves you are no better then the Ditto heads who listen to Rush and take his program as facts.
Keep bobbing your head to what she says.. I will point and laugh at you, just like I do the Rush Ditto Heads.
Maddow seldom uses polls. What she does do is use video clips and printed transcripts of statements and the contradictory behavior of those making the original statements.
We have seen how conservatives deal with Maddow as was demonstrated a few weeks ago on Bill Maher. As Maddow tried to make the point that Reagan blew the deficit up 3 times over the ever conservative economist Steve Moore just shouted over her. Then when she presented evidence that the rich got richer while everyone else stayed the same he again just shouted over her. He even shouted over her questions. What a gentleman.
Idiot Network? Yeah, because guys like Glen Beck and Hannity are always spot on, fair and balanced and never lie right? I'll take a graduate of Cornell University over a graduate of... wait Beck didn't go to college did he?
Beerjoust you got it wrong pal. Everytime Keith boy opens his big mouth he exposes the liberal loonies for what they are-idiots. I'll start a fund to fly Al and Keith to the moon, there is room on board for you too!
Oh, the 'liberal loonies' and oh, how crazy we are! I mean, what with, cutting poverty in half, ending the Viet Nam war, bringing about civil rights to all of our citizens, cleaning up our air and water, allowing the poor to go to college, the minimum wage, protections on the workplace, now, the first real attempt at universal health care, so we can join the civilized world. Yeah, we certainly screwed up America! Let's bring back segregation, making a quarter an hour, having our children work in dusty, dangerous factories instead of having them in school. Let's reverse all that terrible stuff the Liberals did to this nation.
Mr. Olbermann can get carried away, and has apologized for such remarks when he has been called out on them for going too far. I am curious where you have found that he has lied though. I am also curious to discover which broadcasters you listen to that you think keep it truthful.
wag - you should try to get your facts straight before you post.
liberals "ended the Vietnam war"? Really? You mean LBJ? You mean JFK? How about RMN?
Cut poverty in half? No, the liberals just keep raising the bar for "poverty", even though our "poorest" are wealthy by most of the world standards, and are now subservient to a welfare state.
"Aloowing the poor to go to college"? You mean like ILLEGAL aliens??
Minimum wage? Yes, they have cost a lot of jobs by pricing people out of the market. Good job (pun intended).
Dr. Larry, I do have my facts straight. When Lyndon Johnson became president in November of 1963, the poverty rate was 28.1 percent. When he left office in January of 1969, the poverty rate for this nation, after his Great Society programs, and War on Poverty, the poverty rate was 13.7 percent. That is a cut in poverty by one half, and a bit more.
LBJ could have and should have ended the Viet Nam War, but he left that job to the man that U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan called 'our last liberal president, Richard M. Nixon. Nixon, for all of his shortcomings, did a lot of liberal things such as create the EPA, that the right wing so complains about now, establishing a relationship with China, and yes, ending U.S. Invovlement in Viet Nam, at the behest of such right wing types as Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman and a whole host of ultra right wing types, you know, Rennie Davis, William Sloane Coffin, and Martin Luther King... Pell Grants, helped me go to college, but most recipients of such grants were much poorer than I ever was and their education has been a great benefit to our country. Yes, that too, helped reduce poverty in our nation. The presumption that just because someone has name such as Rodriguez or Martinez that they must be an illegal alien is pretty offensive.
Working for nothing is worse than not working. Do we really want people working twelve hours a day for pennies? That is disgusting. We in America are better than that. American workers create the wealth in our nation and they deserve decent, living wages that can support a family. Every time the minimum wage has been raised, in spite of the political rhetoric to the contrary, unemployment has gone down. Business cycles, that up until the Reagan era had been regulated for a good fifty years, cause unemployment. In the time between of the great depression and the Reagan era, we had recessions and downturns in the economy, but nothing as catastrophic as the current economic downturn, when the right wing took over and repealed good, decent, regulations of business.
Sally, it would be a wonderful day indeed if there were no personal attacks, just energetic debate. Given your sensitivities for personal attacks do you think it is likely that people who call conservatives "teabaggers" will find themselves likewise disciplined. I know it's my opinion only, but "schmuck" can't really be any more vulgar than "teabagger", don't you think?
Wag, Your an idiot. We have as many people in poverty as we ever had and growing, and after the lib's spent billions. As for segregation, good job, we sent the poor blacks out of the geto's and spread them all over the cities so they could enjoy the best school's. What happenned? now the kids can't pass a test that goes beyond writing their own names, we have the lowest test scores of most of the industrialized countries around the world. We used to be first. All our kids are running around with their butts hanging out talking ebonics. Our air and water are dangerous to drink and breath. Oh your guys have done a real good job with the work place, all our jobs are gone now, so I guess were safe. You lib. global warming morons have done a wonderful job now, whats next trash the Constitution and take away the rest of our freedoms?
Wag, the poverty rate was not 28.1% in 1963. It was, if you put much weight into it, about 18%. I think you looked at the numbers, in millions, in poverty, not the rate of poverty in the USA. In any case it's a silly argument as the War on Poverty didn't begin in 1963, and so LBJ should not be credited with that year as the starting point by which to measure his programs. Poverty rates in the USA fell during his tenure and while his "war" was underway by 4%. And have remained at this level, give or take a percent or two, until even now.
I guess my question to you would be a simple one. Has the spending of trillions of dollars with no serious effect one way or the other to ameliorate poverty in the USA been a wise use of our treasure?
As far as clean water and air I guess you might want to thank Richard Nixon for establishing the EPA, though I doubt the EPA has been very effective compared to what the alternative would have been. Same with many federal programs--we are made no better for them than we would otherwise be if the states dealt with these issues. And the Vietnam War? It was Nixon that helped bring that to an end too. It was 1972, four years after LBJ was gone, that a peace treaty was negotiated. Remember it was John Kerry that went to Paris in order to bring it all about. Or so John Kerry said. It wasn't true, but why let that bother us?
We can go on and on with this debate, but it serves no purpose if you are willing to demonize Nixon on the one hand, only to steal from him the credit for initiatives he signed into law on the other.
Civil rights is another matter, but it is likely lost upon you that republicans in Congress voted in higher percentages for the 1964 CRA than did democrats. Did Johnson sign it? You bet. But if republicans voted at the same rate in favor of it as democrats did he might not have had the chance to sign it. The point to be made, I suppose, is that the world is a little more complex than you can accept or comprehend. Not everything good is done by your side. It hurts, I know, but deal with it.
Both the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau had the poverty rate at 28.1 percent in 1963. By January 20th, 1969, the rate was down to 13.7 percent. Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare Joseph Califano said the rate had actually gone down to 11 percent. You can look this up. Our population has risen by one hundred million since 1969, so of course, the millions in poverty would have risen. I despised Nixon but he was indeed, liberal by today's standards.
To continue, it was the major corporations, under 'free trade' that caused the outflow of jobs from this country. Karl Marx had it exactly wrong. It's not the workers who have no country, it's the corporations. I heard many of right wing talker mock President Obama for saying before the Chamber of Commerce that they had a patriotic duty to create jobs.
The youngsters in our schools are as intelligent as ever before. Perhaps more so. I knew so many because I am heavily involved in the school system. These kids are smarter than ever. The test scores is a right wing device to show that public education does not work, and that people ought to be kept stupid.
The racist remarks from Emerson deserve no further comment. I know what his problem is.
Gooberman is coming back?....Well Fringe is already taken, so he'll have to come up with something new.... How about "Out in Left Field"?, or "Psychotic Keith and the Climate Change Kid"?...or "Anger & Hatred: My Life as a Failed TV Host"?...or my favorite, "Thank God Al Gore Thinks I'm As Loony As He Is Or I'd Be Selling Sham Wows At 3:00am on CNBC Show".
Hope he comes back to ESPN. I tried watching him on MSNBC and it was all about government/voting stuff, money, jobless people, towelheads blowing people up and stuff like that. Ugh. Like all the boring bits of the newspaper.
Aw, come on, he was pure crap on SportsCenter. I think they let him go to MSNBC instead of just firing him, he was just so awful. He's read the scores wrong, he'd laugh at his own stupid jokes instead of reading the stories, even Kenny Mayne couldn't make Olbermann seem funny to anyone but Olbermann.
Let him rot on the Al Gore channel where 167 people can see him everyday.
Conservatives care not for their fellow man. THey only care about making oil companies, who sully our environment, richer than ever, also the health insurance and big pharmaceutical companies, every big business you can name. Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Conservatives make no secret of their racism or imperialism either. They are morally and spiritually bankrupt. They love guns and war, instead of peace, love, and a clean environment, with all people living a decent lifestyle, instead of the aforementioned on the payroll of Carbon-energy, instead of Zero-point energy, like Cold Fusion, or magnetic motor-generators.
I have always liked Olbermann, he has an agenda(like everyone else in the media) but his is at least rational opinion. It funny how pissed off conservatives and Fox Fear propagators are with him all the time....all he does is expose your ignorance and bigotry with logic and complete sentences at a collegiate level.
I will even grant that as true bulldog, now at what level is Hannity and the rest of fox at? ....third grade "my ball is better than your ball" and if we cant use fox's ball ....you can bet they are taking it home.
TATS: Here's the difference (and I watch both MSNBC and FOX--DVR is a great thing). The Fox people have opponents on their show and civil debate which generally ends amicably. Keith O didn't have enough of a pair to do that--nothing but monologue and like-minded guests. He is, for that reason, a journalistic coward.
that must be a joke, fox has half assed people paid to claim to take the liberal position, they are asked 3 questions at once and after the first stereotypical "liberal" response is barely completed the fox news hosts all interrupt and talk over them not even allowing an explanation. (see Bill O's Obama interview)
Olbermann's show was not claiming to have two viewpoints its point was to be just him and the people he chose to discus topics with, I already said he had an agenda ....
Well said KJ...Even the godfather has debate. Olberman is afraid someone will expose his lack of experience in the political arena...a sports Hack, at best...and he managed to butcher that too..
When did Olbermann claim that his show is fair and balanced, has "experts" from both sides of the issue and always expresses the opinions of everyone involved?
Find me that information and I will agree he was dishonest and manipulative.... until then, it was the Keith Olbermann Show ... It was presented as his opinion and never said otherwise
TATS: I did not claim he was dishonest and manipulative--only a coward. What better way to present your side than to defend it against someone who has an opposing viewpoint! Keith O either wouldn't or couldn't do that. Maybe he will act differently on Als network, but I doubt it.
So If he invited someone on to say a generic conservative statement, then talked over them and constantly interrupted him by repeating the same thing over and over and then cut to commercial, that would make him less of a coward.... I got you now
TATS: You described the operating method of Keith O perfectly. Just change "conservative" to "liberal," take out any references to an actual guests with an opposing view, and add "with a tone of hatred." after the words "over and over."
Ok, lets go back to the point where I stated he has an agenda based off of talking points he wanted with guests that he picked. Im not claiming this is ideal, im saying that he never claimed to be something he is not.(fox)
He never interrupted his guests to push some ignorant fear topic over and over, because like we both already established, he picked his guests(who were almost always "on his side")
As far as the tone of hatred...I would say disdain and frustration not hatred, that's a word best applied by the ignorant masses of conservatism
TATS: the line between disdain and hatred is at best blurred. As to your reference to the supposed "ignorant masses of conservatism," it provides evidence that you may not know where the line between disdain and hatred is either. I much prefer the tone of a William F. Buckley to that of a Keith Olbermann.
Your correct, I like to personally keep disdain and hatred separated by hatred including hostility in the definition, but again like you say its a vague difference.
"Ignorant masses of conservatism" was not posed as hatred (hostility), I meant it literally, Ignorance - lack of knowledge, information, or education of the majority of people with a conservative mindset.
"ignorant masses of libertarianism" is something that exists also if that lessens the bias in my original statement, however by definition hatred is not (with regard to ideology) inherent in liberalism.
Maybe we will continue after your done education your students KJ. have a good day !
Olbermann is no more rational than the pundits on the opposite side of the spectrum. If you ever heard his rational for partial birth abortions there is no way in hades you could call him rational. He is as much a loon as O' Reilly. Calling him rational challenges your own rationality.
The real funny thing is that the Fox bashers on here either don't watch it and are therefore not entitled to an opinion on its content (you have to actually watch something to know what is being said). Or you do watch it and you are helping Fox laugh all the way to the bank. Either way, it again doesn't reflect well on your rationality. BTW, I don't watch Fox either so I won't comment on it. OTOH, I do watch MSNBC and Olbermann's schtick was out there.
I just tried to look up his opinion on "partial birth abortion" but i could not find anything, just vague articles mentioning he is more pro-choice than anything, do you have a link I can check out?
I have recently become addicted to switching back and forth between MSNBC and Fox, about every 3-5min. The contrast is polarizing, it just seems that the liberal stations tend to squeeze in an honest fact or bipartisan comment ever now and then. Fox is just non stop fear and scare tactics, sometimes rightfully so, but mostly unnecessary.
Thereallthesame your comment about conservatives and lack of education doesn't quite match up. First conservatives are generally referred to as the rich elite which one would assume comes from being educated. Second liberals are generally referred to as the disadvantaged or lacking in education and if I was as ignorant as you ,I would actually believe this crap too.
Conservatism- favoring traditional values, not in favor of change, cautious
Liberalism- not limited to tradition or authoritative attitudes, progressive, change
If you think ALL conservatives are "rich educated people" and ALL liberals are poor uneducated people then the irony of you calling me ignorant is quite obvious.
Look at a map that has red states and blue states highlighted, the more conservative states hold true to the ideology aforementioned do they not?
I think it's rather amusing that "thereallthesame" goes on and on about the ignorance and stupidity of conservatives, yet, doesn't seem to know the proper uses of "there" and "they're" or "your" and "you're."
Hey, "there..." Even Obama said O'Reilly treated him fairly.
You caught me, in my haste to respond and even in my tag name(say it isn't so) I have typed the improper use of their, there, and they're. I must be utterly incompetent and therefore all of my previous posts are void of the validity / opinion that only someone as much of trivial douche as yourself could produce.
Are you going to attack my preference to use a serial comma as well? Your grammar policing, although accurate, introduces nothing relevant to the subject at hand and only moves to make a childish jab at my intelligence.
Obama said he felt Bill O treated him fairly in general through his opinion on the O'Reilly Factor, that was not a statement about the interview directly. I also never claimed Obama was treated unfairly, I said he was constantly interrupted and never allotted time to form a complete response. This was just an example that I wanted to use to show that just because you have two sides present on a show does not mean each side gets equal representation all of the time.
Thereallthesame apparently you can't read either, no where in my comment did I say that is what I believed in fact the last part of my comment clearly states my view. To quote you sir, you are indeed the Idiot. Gendokari your reading comprehension has much to be desired. As the last part of my comment clearly states I disagree with that commonly held belief.
conservatives are not "generally" refereed to as the rich elites, they can be refereed to in that way when speaking specifically about a particular group or demographic, but conservatism is not generally correlated with over educated rich people.
Also, I never blanketed conservatism with an uneducated label, I said that hatred is best utilized by the " ignorant masses of conservatism". I used the general definition of ignorance as being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed. As in one or all of the aforementioned. I never implied that my invented demographic was factual of all conservative beliefs just as you implied that not all are rich and educated.
Another worthless idea from the right. Not surprising. What else you got for solving our dependence on foreign oil? Subsidizing billionaires while attacking the weakest among us to do so?
Knew he'd find an outlet to spew his venom! Al's channel is perfect! NOBODY watches it. How's that global warming thing working out Al? Step away from the buffet! Michelle won't like it!
Fox (Faux News) has lot's of viewers - so what does that matter? Unless of course you'd want a base of viewers who are dumb, illiterate, and lacking dental care.
Honestly, really, Olberman on the 'lunatic fringe.' This, after the major opinion maker for Fox News, proudly explains that he doesn't know how the tides come in and out?
But the right wing has nothing but anger. Fox News has the psychotic, the openly psychotic Glenn Beck, who just last week, while Egyptians were working for the true American ideals, he was screaming about the 'Caliphate' extending from Indonesia to England. Just look at the hateful and bitter Bill O'Reilly. Honestly, this is really a case of the pot calling the kettle black. I work in a place where I hear Rush Limbaugh all the time. It is a three hour rant of hateful bitterness, whining and crying about he has to pay taxes. This is all I hear. I never hear positive things, I never hear about good people doing good things, about how much our nation has improved in so many areas. Anger! Really!
The throwing of paper, the stack he reads as backup copy, is done for comic affeck. Newscasters do that, usually off camera. I never understood that Keith was there to debate. If he did, on most points, he would just about have to win. I have noticed this that with right wing type shows, people call in or make comments contrary to the host, they are immediately cut off. Rush Limbaugh doesn't even have guest.
Finally, something worth watching on that useless channel. Current tv used to be the independent news channel, but Al Gore messed it up.
Match made in heaven; a moron on the moron's channel.
I'm just glad that it was news worthy enough to be on the front page!
Maybe his ratings will go up? They've got atleast 1,000 viewers, right?
Al Gore started the channel. How did he mess it up?
Skiddy,
Always making fun of things he doesn't understand. We all know facts are too much for teabaggers, so don't watch.
Gore is going to get 300 more viewers good for him .
I'm glad my cable provider has channel blocking.
Censorship is a time-honored teabagger value, Leiya. Right up there with putting one's fingers in one's ears.
Toasty McGrath
Sorry Toasty, - it's called freedom of choice.
Nazi liberal fascism at it's best.
Landoran,
The doctrine says that opposing views should be given air time, but it does not say you are required to watch or listen. The airways are not owned by the broadcasters, they are leased from the government, we the people, all of the people. Even those who's views you disagree with. But that disagreement does not take the rights of those wanting to express them away.
Fox claims "Fair and Balanced" why not let that happen across the board?
Why is the right wing so scared of Keith?
Did Brewster buy the station? I thought buying that priceless postage stamp and having it canceled was genius. This beats even that!
Constant reference to ratings are a bit simple minded. If you look at any of the "News" channels, none have very high ratings compared to regular entertainment channels.
It could be that those of us on the liberal side of the planet don't need to be fed a constant stream of unfounded, opinion based, "information" from a television talking head to form our beliefs.
vwterry - the problem arises when stations that broadcast to a particular demographic are forced to air programs that are antithetical to their usual audience.
Eventually, Olbermann will fade away, just like Al Gore.
Water seeks it's own level.
Anyone?
@ Miked
Funny how this thread is almost all conservatives shouting down 'any opposing view' - perhaps censorship is not an exclusive province of the left.
If you don't like Olbermann, don't watch him, simple as that. This deal will almost certainly lift Current from obscurity, whether or not he makes them as popular as he did MSNBC is less likely.
Another comedy channel?
Act2 -
When it's too hot in summer, it's called GLOBAL WARMING.
When it's too cold in winter, it's called CLIMATE CHANGE.
Landoran -
You need to come to reality and look at the facts.
I just can't stand the same old rhetoric (from either side truth be told...).
dean314 - Why is the left so scared of Sarah?
vwterry "The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was, in the Commission's view, honest, equitable and balanced." Please note the bold portion of the above. What makes you think that the "Commission's view" would be anything other than the political view of the President, since he appoints the majority of its members?
Roy,
Why must you always look for the worst in our fairly elected officials. Paranoid much?
I posted this information in the form of a question to spider and the assertion that this doctrine is somehow censorship by nature and wording. It does not say that only Democrat or only Republican presidents can appoint FCC officials.
I wish Keith, well. He was just out of his element when he didn't have Bush to bash every day.
Maybe I'll even start to watch msnbc.
lol
Have great day!
Looks like my nightly news will no longer come from MSNBC. Glad to see Kieth back. Next step will be to make sure my current cable package has current TV.
For all you KO haters.... go watch Glen Beck, and call Goldline while your at it.
Tom - Plymouth:
A gold medal for you in "Conclusion Jumping". Where did I say what I liked and didn't like? Take the silver and the bronze too. You know what kind of person I am, based on a single post? Wow!
If you're unhappy with my posts, don't read them.
Wow! I always find it funny how people with left leaning stances always point to big business being behind the Right when big business is behind every political ideology...it just differs on which pocket they get their money from. So for all you that like to point out Rupert Murdochs name here is a little name for you George Soros.
Fairness doctrine is no longer in effect
Umm Tom, I want to point one thing out to you: The left isn't afraid of Sarah Palin. The love her. They want her to run. They know that if she ran, and managed to get on the ticket, it would be as if she were a gift from God to the left wing, because she would have the lowest voting numbers from intelligent americans than any other candidate in the country. Not even her own party trusts her enough to try and run this country
Well after 8 years of a rapist ,totally fuc*king up this country.
ANYTHING is possible !
I think Keith will do well if he can score an interview with Manbearpig once Al locates him.
john
ROFLMFAO !
Don't wake up Barbara Streisand !
Great news, Olberman gone into oblivion.
Please, everyone, if you have Comcast and they don't carry Current, you can send them a request by going to http://www.comcast.com">www.comcast.com and
scrolling to the very bottom of the page. Click on 'Comcast.com
Feedback'. It doesn't look like you could use that form, but they assure me that it can be used for suggestions. Just use the comment box, put your accoiunt info in, and ask for Current TV
Good news. I don't think my local cable company has it, but maybe they will pick it up.
Didn't even know that the Gore channel existed - good move for both of them.
It is good news.
Put a flaming liberal that got lousy ratings on a channel that no one watches. A match made in, well, Hades!!
Glad to see him back, Current has a new viewer
Great, now i wont have to ever come across that puffed up blowhard on any channel that I watch.
Yes, Lunchbox, lord help you if you should ever, ever by chance hear a view opposing your own. That would be terrible! Why it may even cause you to think and we wouldn't want that!
Wag, go back down to your room in your Mom's basement.
So I guess it is okay that conservatives can use propaganda but liberals cannot.
Isn't that the first thing both sides learn? Use propaganda, then complain or whine when the other side does it.
Olbermann? Isn't that the dairy farmer guy? No, wait a minute. Isn't he that really bad sports guy on ESPN? I thought he died?
I am so lucky,, my cable tv carrier doesn't have that channel... of course even if it did i would use the button on the remote to mute the channel..
Skip it entirely. I'd rather have to watch the "View" than Olbermann. Cruel and unusual punishment.
Typical liberal statement, you contradicted yourself. Hopefully you will be a guest on Olbercrap's show.
Heh, it really is fun watching Olbermann and Maddow make the teabaggers squirm.
typical teabagger, doesn't read the statement but can string together a sentance to denounce it.
Funny Gary, no one brough up fox or palin until you did. So does that make you a liberal or just wrong?
I bet your cable provider has Fox noise. Why don't you stay over there where they appreciate your remarks?
With that ultimate nutbag Beck on their channel, I have to suspect anything coming out Fox. Beck is one of the craziest windbags on TV or radio.
lib50: it is obvious to the most casual observer that most of the posters today must be recent graduates of the Glenn Beck School of Deep Thinking.
Rich-281385 - couldn't agree more.
I hope you can watch current tv as well. It would probably increase their ratings 100%.
Mac-101 & bolsen:
Sounds like you guys won't miss Mr. Olbermann whatsoever. Great for you! Great for America. We all have free choices in this great country. That's why in the U.S. we make chocolate and vanilla, left and right, right and wrong, smart and dumb. The choice is up to each individual. But at the end of the day we should all join hands and be The UNITED States of America! Why? Because that is the ONLY way OUR country will survive in today's world! God Bless you both and God bless America!
does verizon fios carry the channel keith will be on? otherwise, I will have to change to a carrier that includes this channel.
scrambolo, what is your last name, brains?
John Emerson:
That sounds about right...Now he has lost ANY minute ounce of respect he may have achieved in the past...
Holy Airwaves, Batman~
The RRRRWW is totally freaking out about Keith Olbermann joining the (Al Gore) channel. Just saying those two names together makes them writhe and gnash their teeth! What gives, Batman?
Easy, Robin, it's the Demon of Intellectualism doing that...if they actually read, watch or view facts that don't reinforce their foregone opinions, the Demon activates and makes them crazy.
What should we do, Batman?
Nothing, my friend. They will have to find a way to defeat their Demon on their own.. this is one job in which even Batman cannot interfere.
Back to the bat cave Batman!
Olbermann will likely never be on this list, he simply hasn't the qualities needed to be curious or surprising, but he is often provocative.
ps--I don't know if you wear pencil skirts and pull your hair back, but if you do a few photos would be nice.
HMMMM I can cause libs to writhe and gnash teeth with one name...... Palin...... what do I win???
Gday,
Not really, I love Palin. If she runs you can guarantee Obama another term.
Dem in Texas:
The Republicans are smart enough to stop Sarah (ya Betcha) Palin from running for president in 2012. I think they have seen and heard enough from that 'one pony' show!
Should last about as long as Air America. Good riddance.
Perfect place for a perfect idiot.
Well, they were made for each other... And with them combined global warming will be a real threat--from all of their hot air.
True!
Olberman is proof that even mentally ill people can succeed in the news industry.
@getalifevirginia Ah, but the truly disturbed are 'stars' on Fox where they are allowed to rant ad nauseum fact-free or pull conjectures from thin air. Better to be homeless or in a small shelter than in that circus.
There - I fixed it for you.
You didnt know it was true all along? that mentally ill people could get shows in news media? come on,sean hannity, rush limbaugh, bill oreily and my fav of them all glen beck...You conservs,so funny to watch.
I don't think you can get any crazier than Beck. The guy belongs in a straitjacket.
You're a moron.
Just say NO tot eh New World Order!
Brett... I don't dismiss that climate change is happening. I do dismiss the supposed fact that man is causing it.
To all who think the Earth is warming your right!!
But about 410,000 years ago the temp was about the same as today.
Then the earth cooled and about 320,00 years ago there was another spike in temp that was HIGHER than it is today.
Then the earth cooled and another spike occurred about 280,000 years ago that was about the SAME as today.
Then the earth cooled and another spike happened around 130,000 years ago Higher than it is today.
Then the earth cooled and another spike is happening and the temp was HIGHER about 8,000 to 9,000 years ago than it is today.
NOTICE A PATTERN???
Also notice the Spikes in Temperature happened BEFORE any Electric Power Plans,Mills,Autos,Factories, and other 'Man Made Green House Gas Producers'.
Just Google 'co2 and temperature' to see the graphs
Already looking forward to it. Lawrence is ok, but he's no Olbermann.
Maybe Olbermann should try the Comedy channel after all he is a joke
Well, there are many, who say the best news programs are indeed on the Comedy Channel with Jon Stewart and Steve Colbert. I watch them when I can and sure enough they are pretty factual.
Yeah. They switched to the Comedy Channel when Looney Tunes went off the air.
"news". LOL. You might as well watch a fishing show for "news".
This coming from someone who watches Fox.
People who criticize the new, the left wing biased liberal news, no doubt, presume they already know the story, so you have to wonder why they watch at all. Afterall, don't they already know it all.
Good spot for HIM! NO ONE, no one, will ever see him! the dustbin of media!
NOW! if we can only get Rachel Madow to go there too! perfect.
Please don't compare Rachel Maddow to Olberman. She is a brilliant lady
and does her research. Her reporting is nothing even like his. Just because
she is a liberal you don't like her, or possible because she gay and wouldn't
take a second look at you!!!!
The biggest difference between Rachael Maddow and Rush is she forms her opinions on facts and he creates facts from his opinion. Very big difference.
Maddow truth in broadcasting HA,HA,HA,HA,HA,HA,HA,HA,HA,HA
"Maddow" and "facts" do not belong in the same sentence. She is a flaming liberal that deals in half-truths and flat-out lies.
You need to get out more.
Dr Larry, you are describing Foxcasters, not Maddow. She may be a liberal but she always has facts on her side
-
We have seen how conservatives deal with Maddow as was demonstrated a few weeks ago on Bill Maher. As Maddow tried to make the point that Reagan blew the deficit up 3 times over the ever conservative economist Steve Moore just shouted over her. Then when she presented evidence that the rich got richer while everyone else stayed the same he again just shouted over her. He even shouted over her questions. What a gentleman.
where ever keith go i will watch him my family really miss him.
Take your family to the ZOO.
Take yours anywhere but here.
brb2: LOL!
Enjoy that outhouse
carrie - "where ever keith go i will watch him my family really miss him"
You represent the Olberman fans very well, there is almost a complete thought in that jumble of words somewhere.
Maybe when he quits that position and goes back to Monday night football you can get your "news" during the pregame.
They can call it the ALL IDIOT NETWORK!
I guess you'll favorite that channel then, huh?
Idiot Network? Yeah, because guys like Glen Beck and Hannity are always spot on, fair and balanced and never lie right? I'll take a graduate of Cornell University over a graduate of... wait Beck didn't go to college did he?
Yay Keith! You and Al are two of my favorite people!
Keith Olbermann totally exposes the right wingers for the schmucks that they are, Olbermann Rules!!!
Olbermann is a liberal liar who exposed nothing but his own lack of integrity. It is you who is the schmuck.
They worried about the partical collider causing the destruction of mankind, here's two that will do it for sure.
Free world say good bye, here comes the socialist vacuum.
wag - you should try to get your facts straight before you post.
liberals "ended the Vietnam war"?
Typical trickle down bull@!$%#, Larry.
"Keith Olbermann totally exposes the right wingers for the schmucks that they are."
The right wing totally exposes Keith Olbermann for the schmuck that he is! GO CONSERVATIVE!
Bobber-1586234, you are suspended for a day for violating # 1 of the Code of Honor.
That said, punish away.
SSshhhh
you not supposed to know Al Borg senior ,voted against civil rights !
LMAO
Hope he comes back to ESPN. I tried watching him on MSNBC and it was all about government/voting stuff, money, jobless people, towelheads blowing people up and stuff like that. Ugh. Like all the boring bits of the newspaper.
Please come back to SportsCenter!
Let him rot on the Al Gore channel where 167 people can see him everyday.
stop exaggerating it isen't 167 people...
A liberal puppet going to work for a liberal puppetmaster. They will both be happy.
You mean like the conservative puppets working for the conservative puppeteer over ar clusterfixed opinion channel.
What???
Now he is going from a few thousand viewers to a few hundred - thank God!
why would you thank Allah for that?
Puhhlease....
If you really were muslim (which i doubt) you would know that they "Praise be to Allah" this and "Allah willing..." that after every stupid sentence.
Me thinks you're just trying to ruffle the feathers of one of those pesky Christians, yeah?
Dummy...
There is ONLY ONE GOD, Allah of course! My God can beat up your God!
idiot
Thor?
I have always liked Olbermann, he has an agenda(like everyone else in the media) but his is at least rational opinion. It funny how pissed off conservatives and Fox Fear propagators are with him all the time....all he does is expose your ignorance and bigotry with logic and complete sentences at a collegiate level.
Fox basically ignored him...and he went away.
Ratings will do that....
well said
"Sentences at a sophomoric level" I believe is what thereallthesame meant...
You got nothing but air....
Buckley to that of a Keith Olbermann.
gotta go--my Latin students await.
Nevermind that the statistics prove the exact opposite of your statement wlee.
Wlee
general definitions
Conservatism- favoring traditional values, not in favor of change, cautious
Liberalism- not limited to tradition or authoritative attitudes, progressive, change
If you think ALL conservatives are "rich educated people" and ALL liberals are poor uneducated people then the irony of you calling me ignorant is quite obvious.
Look at a map that has red states and blue states highlighted, the more conservative states hold true to the ideology aforementioned do they not?
to quote Keith, " you sir, are an idiot"
TATS... Your own name is an example of your idiocy. I think you meant to spell it "They'reAllTheSame"...
Just like your recent post above, "Your correct"... Sorry that would be "You're".
Dummy.
What a maroon...
Your grammar policing, although accurate, introduces nothing relevant to the subject at hand and only moves to make a childish jab at my intelligence.
congratulations, you got me
Obama said he felt Bill O treated him fairly in general through his opinion on the O'Reilly Factor, that was not a statement about the interview directly. I also never claimed Obama was treated unfairly, I said he was constantly interrupted and never allotted time to form a complete response. This was just an example that I wanted to use to show that just because you have two sides present on a show does not mean each side gets equal representation all of the time.
Television is entertainment. No news there unless you count BBC.
Now if we can just get a certain Minnesota Senator to join the fray...we can have a reunion of the three stooges hairy, surley, and schmuck.
I like your style bulldog. Rock on.
I was gonna say Michael Moore to be the third Stooge, but your idea works too.
Very good.
Just another close minded ignorant right wing whacko who can't see the forest for the trees.
You should join them refried bean...between the three... all that gas...we could solve our energy problem's specially with al gore's fat a--
Bean-bulldog said it best. Take your gas and go.
Bulldog
Another worthless idea from the right. Not surprising. What else you got for solving our dependence on foreign oil? Subsidizing billionaires while attacking the weakest among us to do so?
Knew he'd find an outlet to spew his venom! Al's channel is perfect! NOBODY watches it. How's that global warming thing working out Al? Step away from the buffet! Michelle won't like it!
Current tv wow olberman goes for those ratings winners. wonder how many viewers they get a night, can't be anymore than msnbc.
Fox (Faux News) has lot's of viewers - so what does that matter? Unless of course you'd want a base of viewers who are dumb, illiterate, and lacking dental care.
Kostoniann: How many other uninformed, condescending, ignorant stereotypes to you have in your repertoire?
When it comes to the America-haters on Faux - tons.
Sadly, I believe you...
KJ
Read and weep....

It was a Soros funded poll.
And faux news is a Murdoch funded propaganda outlet. And the Tea Party is a fake grassroots Koch brothers funded political arm.
Like you don't have radical ideological billionaires feeding you lies. Please.
Demproud: Read what? At least provide a complete link... Are you a rookie to this or what?
How far Left are you when NBC fires you? Lunatic fringe.
Honestly, really, Olberman on the 'lunatic fringe.' This, after the major opinion maker for Fox News, proudly explains that he doesn't know how the tides come in and out?
wag, Keith is one angry man. That is the difference with the fringe left!!
Anger! Really!
wag, nobody throws paper and punches better then Keith. Could he handle debate??
The throwing of paper, the stack he reads as backup copy, is done for comic affeck. Newscasters do that, usually off camera. I never understood that Keith was there to debate. If he did, on most points, he would just about have to win. I have noticed this that with right wing type shows, people call in or make comments contrary to the host, they are immediately cut off. Rush Limbaugh doesn't even have guest.
"Birds of a feather flock together" includes extremists and nutcases as well.
