I've been reading a lot of good books by thoughtful non partisan economists and the idea of balancing the budget and cutting spending during a weak economic time was last tried by pres. Herbert Hoover. Check it out
I'm still waiting for Obama to deliver on his promise to create jobs in this country. It's actually quite easily achieved; eliminate tax incentives for offshoring American jobs and manufacturing. If we had back every job sent overseas, there would be no shortage of work in this country.
I cannot think of one good reason why Obama made healthcare his main objective while we are in the midst of the worst economic catastrophe this country has seen since the Great Depressionl. It makes him look like Marie Antoinette - "they don't have bread, then let them eat cake". Meaning his decision to attack healthcare made him look clueless as to the real issues facing Americans at this point in time. Healthcare is important, but it could have been dealt with AFTER he brought back American jobs.

The billion dollar manufacturing facilities, many automated robotics operated do not magically transport themselves to U.S. soil with this decree. the dramatic labor costing differences in many sectors would escalate finished goods costs dramatically. Jobs which might include infrastructure retrofits and updates seem to be unpopular with the GOP.
What will be interesting, is what travesty will reassert itself with the shift in party majorities.
reply to comment #1 Thank You for the suggestion,Chuck, I think that if taxation were proportionately fair, and if positive growth was encouraged( safe investing in green solutions, and projects beneficial to all the citizenry)the whole budget would be much easier to,not only balance, but we'd actually end up with a surplus! :-)
I am a frim believer that the right people in office can make a change ,we all have to work together to make this happen. hopefully both parties can come to terms with one another,it can be done.
Sorry Mike. It cannot be done. The Democratic Party has defined themselves as Socialists. The majority of Americans are not willing, nor seeking, a compromise with them. Bama made it clear after his inauguration that "elections have consequences" and proceeded to embark on the most partisan presidency I have witnessed in my lifetime. He has driven a wedge into the Country that will never heal. And this was, and is, his intention.
No William, you and your ilk have defined the Dems as Socialists. That doesn't make it so. I could say you have no idea what you are writing about and that doesn't make it true either...does it?
speaking to driving wedges in this country. you reply to someone who hopes we can work togother, and you start with sociailsm and driving a wedge agenda??
you give the impression that you are driving wedges, I realize Bohner has given the order for no compromises, but you realize the situation you are in now, is from 2 years of not compromising. and shaking the hand out from the left. and with obama's veto, expect 2 more years of the left controlling the bills coming out of DC.. with NO COMPROMISES To appease the right...
and if Americans of both sides don't come together in the next two years. there will be another upset of the incumbents.
maybe I should just say, It's because of conservative facists,to blame? but I don't think it would get far on finding mutual agreement..
(you catch more flys with honey, than vinegar )
sorry , not meaning to offend
Now that the Republicans got what they wanted, I say they fix the country just like they've been promising. C'mon, you've got 18 months to turn things around. That should be more than enough time, right?
Civics 101 - Republicans own only half of the Legistrative branch of government. They can only do what that will allow them to do.
Well the Democrats aren't the stinkers that republicans are, if there's a good isea, it will pass.

So when the Dems took over the House of Reps in 2006 the failing economy wasn't their fault. Because almost every foaming at the mouth tea party type says it was.
It's the fault of all of congress, one is not excused from the responsibilty because of party affiliation. It's a team,
the whole football teams loses, not just the offense, or the defense. no one succeeds unless we all do, if one of us fails, we all fail..
Only way to balance the budget is increase taxes & cut government spending which I don't believe is possible because of lack of jobs. Job creation should be the priority. Then we can work on the rest.
I want someone who will say NO to special interest groups to stand up for America where are all the pioneers of freedom? Stop being politically correct and take charge for pete sake!
job creation creates tax revenue. without raising taxes.
wage increases (minimum wage increase ) creates tax revenue. and economic stimulus without raising taxes.
JOBS JOBS JOBS. is the priority, because the side effects of jobs solves other problems.. such as working people being able to pay their mortage again.. if it's not too late that is.
I'm unemployed, not getting benefits, because I enrolled in school and thus unavailable to work.. so the Jobs better be coming, like how come the ads are not in the paper yet??
The economy is slowly recovering and when things do eventually get much better the GOP will take credit for it..even though it will have been because of Obama's hard work. I was hoping that my husband would be able to get healthcare since it is $511 every 2 weeks for a family plan where I work. I already pay $168 every 2 weeks for my 2 children, and that does not include dental. I am lucky because they do pay 100% of my healthcare premium but still something has got to change.
Stop outsourcing jobs...get rid of Unions that tell people to strike for more pay then co. wont want to move out of US...therefore there would be jobs which increases spending which then helps the economy..its called the spiral effect....
Crusty, I know all these union guys and they are so republican. When I read comments like yours I have to question your reasoning. Tell me, what is wrong with unions? would you rather see the CEO's get all the money? Average difference between CEO pay and journeyman worker. 64:1
Steve don't know where your from, but i'm related to a pipe fitter and i sometimes swear he'd vote for mickey mouse if he were on the demacratic ticket. I do agree that CEO salaries ar out of line with their workers, but remember CEO's are beholden to the corporate boards, who are beholden to the share holders like us with our 401k's and mutual funds.
I'm from Maryland, the guys I am speaking of come from Baltimore and southern Maryland. They like their guns and if you're a dem, then you're after their guns.
Stop giving themselves raises they don't deserve. Stop spending money they don't have, stop causing small businesses to close their doors. Stop blaming everyone else for what has happened and find a way to fix it that doesn't cost us more tax dollars.
keep a keen watch on what the repubs. do and encourage the tea party to keep them in check.
I don't make between $25K-$50K and the company I work for doesn't employ 10 or more employees!!!!
One reason that many jobs go overseas is the cost of healthcare to employers here in America, while its cost may be spread across a society in other nations.
each party wants to fix the mess we are in but when one party comes up with a good idea the other knocks it down because each one wants to get the credit for fixing the problems. they both should get together and put america back on it's feet no matter who gets the credit. politics is the problem. congress is the problem, to many perks to them.
Thank god barney fwank is no longer in a position of power. What a turd this guy proved himself to be during his acceptance speach. He embodies all that is wrong with the democratic party in ma.
The Republicans have asked for and received the keys to the bus which they claimed the Democrats didn't have any idea how to drive or steer. Now they can put up or shut up. The latter is more believable. We shall see how much the Republicans will be able to accomplish now that they've deceived their voters into believing. I really have no faith in either of the parties who are vying to have my attention. It will be liken unto " Cold Soup Warmed over ". It has lost it's flavor and taste.
When did it happen that we seem to have lost the ability to agree to disagree and do so civilly. Some of the comments on both sides are just rude. Our government is never going to compromise on what's best for the country as long as there are people pushing a' take no prisoners' attitude.
The reality is that too many people who are in a position to do something are too beholden to people who have no interest in doing anything. As long as those in power -- translate: those with money, not necessarily politicians -- are too uninterested in acting, we will have no country to save.

Hey, here's an idea. Why doesn't Congress actually work in a bi-partisan fashion--LIKE THEY'VE BEEN PROMISING TO DO FOR EVER!
