Looks like another waste of taxpayers money if the government paid for that research!
Do a Google for this "privately funded" business/organization, headquartered in Boston, MA and they'll list their B of D and their employees.
If we are out of the recession, then why are we still losing jobs and the homeless rate continues to climb.
Just another waste of time and good money spent on these government research telling the people that everything is fine and dandy while they are standing in a food line and waitng for a bed at a homeless shelter.
It will take us a generation to dig out from under the biggest scam in history created by a combination of pure capitalism and subprime mortgages and asusming we resinstate some reasonable measure of regulations on the financial markets.
And the Republicans are hell bent to wipe out all regulations and do one more round of pure capitalism which will give us another disaster.
What we learned several thousand years ago is that when there are no regulations, the least ethical and most aggrissive set the standards. It drives the honest small businesses out of business because they can't compete with all of the whores who crawl out from other the rocks in a deregulated economy.
The secret is a reasonable level of regulation that protects both consumers and small businesses from the whores but doesn't put the small businesses out of business like the the last 8 years of Republican rule.
If NBER applied the same criteria to the Great Depression from 1929-1940, I wonder if they would conclude that it actually ended in 1931....or that it wasn't really a depression but a couple of minor recessions.
It is kind of like the unemployment rate. By today's criteria, it's 9.6%. If you used the criteria they used to evaluate the unemployment rate in 1933, it would be closer to 16%.
So does anyone out there feel much better that NBER has told us it's over? Everyone running out to spend since the money should be flowing in now that we're out of a recession?
The lack of research or questioning of news like this by the press is terrible and irresponsible.
Joe: jobs always lag the end of a recession. Always. Because we have ridiculous trickle down policies that benefit the rich instead of the average american. We operate as a country by and for the corporations, instead of the people.
Hey Ken...put down the glass of kool-aid and quit believing everything the Huffington Post tells you.
Now, explain to me how the spending this administration has done in 2 years can be dug out of in a generation. Also, tell us why when presented the opportunity to correct the subprime mortgage situation early, the lead democrats stated "there is no problem".

Very interesting video.
What we learned several thousand years ago is that when there are no regulations, the least ethical and most aggrissive set the standards.
Ok, now what are you talking about? Several thousand years ago? So what regulations was the Roman Empire missing to set what standard? And how, in anyway, does that apply to today?
The last 8 years of republican rule put the small business out of business?? What delusion is that comment based on? Name one thing the republicans have done to hurt the small business (with the exception of doing nothing and allowing Clinton's policies to remain in effect).
What hurt the small business in the USA is outsourcing to other countries. NAFTA and WTO free trade agreements made this possible, neither of which were republican measures (Clinton was a democrat).
What is hurting the small businesses today is the amount of Obama's programs they are expected to fund. Healthcare Reform puts a lot of the burden on them. So adding expenses to the small business and then raising their taxes on top of that is all democratic.
If we are out of the recession, then why are we still losing jobs and the homeless rate continues to climb.
You are not paying attention. We have been gaining jobs for months now. You don't know this because the bank rolled networks are being paid to hide this from you. In fact, these special interest networks are being paid to the tune of $3 million dollars per week by the Chamber Of Commerce; and this has been going on since Obama took office.
Here is the most simple way to explain it: When cancer attacks the human body, it feeds off of all organs until there is nothing left. If this progression is not stopped, this means death for the human patient.
Capitalism by design is genus; however, the downside of capitalism is theft and human greed. When this financial cancer reaches the point of recession, it takes socialistic means to recover and stop the financial cancer from killing the country.
Our two party system delivers balance. When you check the historical records, you will find that one parties job is to start wars and spread fear; while the other party’s job is to fix the problems, and lead you to believe that we are back on track.
In other words, if you remove Obama to soon; this country may experience death. Once he completes his job, then and only then, can the country go back to the norm of ripping each other off.

Ah...Now it all makes sense. Its not just my imagination?
Lets not get cynical though:)

LOL!
Soon the only thing left will be the social BS which is the backbone of dragging everything down !
The truth of matter: Capitalism allows the rich and powerful to cheat and flourish. In Socialism; NOT going to happen. However, the down side of socialism is independent freedom is compromised.
You cannot force a healthcare system on people who cannot AFFORD it! We're not earning money, hello hello can ya hear me now?
If this depression gets any worse and then we are forced to pay for this health stuff OR get penalized (first word penal) what are we to do?

Please stop listening to the media, and research our new healthcare bill yourself. You will have to purchase health insurance once you are employed. If your pay is not enough to purchase healthcare, and your employer can't afford it either, then the government will assist you. This is for the betterment of our well being. An once of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
If you went out right now and purchased a new car, you will not be allowed to drive it off the lot without car insurance; this, just like the new healthcare law is mandatory.
The new healthcare bill is better than the law for car insurance. If you can’t afford car insurance, the government will not help you to pay, nor will the government force your employer to pay for it. You are on your own!
I hear so many people that need healthcare complaining about it. This is so, only because we refuse to read for ourselves! You are being lied to by the BB; big business or big brother, whatever you want to call it.
Remember, you can’t rule over a people if they are of sound mind and body. They simply don’t want you to have it. There is no other excuse!
Here is the link so you can check it out for yourself. There is an introduction movie to help you get started:
http://www.healthcare.gov/law/introduction/index.html
Whom ever you are loyal to; ask them are they willing to help pay healthcare expenses for you and your family? The answer will be, “hell no!” Read for yourself and secure yourself, and your family. Don’t let them continue lying to you.
Here'sthe key issue folks, when I was a kid the tax system was and still is to this day; designed to keep up with the needs of the population. Hence the word percentage. Somewhere along the way we let some idiot tell a few people otherwise! Now look at what they have done to our world!!! Until someone actually starts useing their brain and discovers whats happening we are all screwed!
Horse poop! The Recession is still going on and just as strong.
No it's not. All my friends in Chicago have a job and the ones that were unemployed have found work. The recession is "locational" meaning, if you lived in South Dak / North Dak / Minnesota you wouldn't be unemployed. Those states are booming.
If it affects any of the U.S., and people are still jobless, it is still happening. There weren't food stamps available to help people originally during the great depression, so some Americans don't feel its as bad, until you visit the local food banks and soup kitchens for a reality check!
Well there we go,problem solved ! Two states are doing great, maybe we can all go live there, hell everything must be ok now, I will vote for Obama now he's turning everything around---------------NOT!
@ Sally: That's because no one wants to live there. Who wants 8 months of ice cold winter???
This is such a joke. They are just trying to get votes for November.
The company I work for was aquired by another company last month. I had 30 days left, and luckily I was able to find a new job before my old one stopped. Actually making more money now with the new than I was with the old one.
Closing on a new house next week, bought new furniture and appliances. Looking to buy a new car. Paid cash for the furniture, appliances and will be for the car. Doing my part to help the economy. Probably helped the Chinese with the furniture, the Japanese with the car and illegals with the house.
If people that can afford to spend do not, then things will only get worse.
This recession is caused by pessimists and the banks. If you look at it logically, we have 10% unemployment, and that is bad. But if it was 6%, that would be good. So 4 extra people out of 100 are unemployed and that is terrible? 1 extra person out of 25 people is unemployed?
What is killing the economy is that everyone has stopped spending. And banks have stopped lending. So because 1 extra person out of 25 people is unemployed people are acting like the sky is falling, and with that mentality, it will.
@Jim in Auburn
Couldn't agree with you more.
In fact, I keep telling the people at the grocery store that I've done all I could do because I am flat broke.
Jim, could I send you my mailing address in order that you mail me a check in order that "I keep spending"? Any amount you suggest I would consider appropriate but I think $500 per week is a good place to start.
And, btw, it would also be appropriate for you to send me a USPS money order because I no longer have a checking account and have to pay a fee at the check cashing store.
Thanks and God Bless!
Sally you are clueless about the Chicago area economy. Since Obama has been in office there have been more jobs lost than at any other time with the exception of 9-11. I survived 9-11 from a job standpoint, but most everyone I know over the past 2-4 years has lost their job at one point or another. Several, like myself, because of our skillsets cannot find work because the jobs are not here anymore. If you want to work at McDonalds, Walmart, or something like that you still have to fight off hundreds of less skilled personnel for those positions. So wake up.
Yes she is. I moved from Chicago after my husband and I lost all our work to Mexico. Moved to up north cause its booming up here! Right? Ya I stock 4 hrs. a day, he works nights at a hotel. NAFTA has screwed Illinois. From a hub of many industries to one step down from Detroit!
Interesting.
So the Bush recession ended last year and the Obama recession started last year.
Just as I have been telling everyone. For once MSNBC gets it right.
I can't believe you are falling for the crap. President Obama did not start a recession it started with Bush and it is still happening the only thing President Obama has done is that he inherited all the problems from Bush.
@melis-a
So that means all of W's problems were inherited from Bill Clinton. Right?
Love that logic.
@Chuck8 your logic is the one that is faulty because Bush did inherit a surplus that he turned into a recession. No regulation, two wars and he spent billions himself. Lets keep in mind there was more than one stimulus package. One under Bush and one under Obama.
@mindrelated
Straight out of the Democratic Party Propaganda Handbook.
"When logic fails, blame everything on Bush!"
I am not blaming it all on Bush because we the people played a role in this by living outside our income and running up debt. However, it is clear that we have spent 3 trillion...trillion dollars on two wars, not to mention the countless lives that were lost. In my opinion we could have using the money in other places. Lastly, for your information, I am not a Democat. I am a realist who believes in factual information that I can, see, read and prove. I don't agree with some of things President Obama has done but in my opinion he did them with the people in mind.
So that means all of W's problems were inherited from Bill Clinton. Right?
Bush, Cheney, and a good part of that administration blamed Clinton for among other things, 9-11, the 2001 recession, and rising energy prices.
Quit being so holier than thou, your conservative poop smells as much as liberal poop does.
How exactly was President to blame for 9/11 that happened on Bush's watch and the proof is there that the warnings were in but Bush ignored it. When exactly was 9/11 September 9th 2001 it was on Bush's watch. President Obama was handed down a 1.3 Trillion dollar surplus in which Bush created from President Clinton's surplus in which amounted to at least $270 billion. For all you republicans out here that are probably in a job below $250,000 per year exactly what has the republican party done for you? have they made you rich? well no, did they create Social Security well no, are they for the working class people? well no, have they made themselves rich and only people like them wealthier? well yes. I guess I never will understand the republican voters way of thinking.
Boy you could say ALL that again. What a bunch of BS! To blame a man for all your misfortune when it has been happening slowly for the past 10 years, is beyond me. It's no ones fault for living beyond your means, it is your own fault. One of the biggest problems that Americans have today is taking responsibility.
Chuck8 I had a typo there in that I meant you are wrong in that Obama inherited all this from Bush
Just so we are clear melis-a the Democrat Party controlled Congress handily the final 2 years of Bush's term. Now had you been lucky enough to have studied Civics rather than condom application on a banana you would know that Congress is the ADMINISTRATIVE Branch of government. So everything that passed the final 2 years of Bush's term was Democrat. That would be the stimulus as well as all the other craziness. Now the President (Bush) being the EXECUTIVE branch of government SHOULD HAVE vetoed the bills but he did not thus you blame him. Then cometh grate leader who is promising to fix all, change all, and be all to all. Now IF I as a human being inherita financial problem the worst solution to that problem would be to increase spending drastically. So Bush left grate leader with a trillion dollar deficit grown over 8 years and the Democrats have increased the deficit to 4 trillion in 1 1/2 years under grate leaders guidance. And YET it is all Bush's fault. Now if he had put a freeze on government spending, cut taxes to stimulate business, and created an environment that promoted business growth AND the economy continued to flounder then there MIGHT be some validity to his (and your) lame excuses. He is he single smartest human being on the planet and as such one would think he could solve the problems he allegedly inherited. But in all honesty the problem comes from his party not the past President. Wake up get real and understand that Socialism is wrong and will ALWAYS fail because of one thing. Human greed if you think it abounds in Capitalism check out what is did to the governments and more importantly the people who were under the Socialist regimes.
Barney, you fool. The Dems had no power to override Bush. Bush had the veto pen and made FULL use of it. Maybe YOU should go back to school for the civics lesson.
BUSH pushed the stimulus bill; using fear as a motivator. Don't even TRY to rewrite history.
Typical conservative slime; denying the facts and ignoring history, all while wrapping themselves in the flag. You are a disgrace. You can't even spell. Bush and the GOP had 8 years to damage this country; no one is going to fix it in 2.
acidrain the only thing you have correct in your tiny miserable tirade is your name. Bush and Paulsin did indeed "push" as you say the bill, HOWEVER, the simple fact is that it could not have been presented had not it been written by the Democrat Congress. Now if the facts offend you, as they do most liberal dimwits, then I am sorry. And while Bush pushed it grate leader pushed a second one as well as all the other moronic business KILLING spending that has occurred the past 1 1/2 years. And as far as conservative I will say YES I AM with pride. While I do not see any reference to the flag in my post I will say I PROUDLY support the flag of The United States of America. And as for you, you are so typical of a liberal, when faced with facts you spew hate and call names rather than provide a reasonable, factual argument. By the way I do know how to spell and I am spelling everything as I INTEND it to be taken. Please explain how Bush vetoed the Stimulus plan he was "pushing" we would all be interested in hearing that answer. My statement stands he SHOULD HAVE vetoed the bill but DID NOT. Maybe double up on the medication you might get some rest.
I'm still waiting to hear some facts. You agreed that Bush and Paulsen pushed the bill. WITH FEAR was the part you were missing. Just like everything the rethuglicans do. Politics through fear.
You don't support the flag. You say you do, but politics through fear is an affront to this country's ideals. Keep on pretending you're a patriot, fascist.
I never said Bush vetoed the stimulus plan. I said the Dems had no power to override Bush for the 2 years they were in office. You think you can push conservative mistakes on the Dems because they controlled congress.
Fact the Democrats wrote the bill. Fact Bush signed the bill. Fact grate leader stated the recession was the worst since the Great Depression (fear politics?) Fact when he signed the second stimulus he guaranteed that unemployment would not go above 8%. Fact unemployment is at 9.7% and holding steady. Fact Republicans lost their core beliefs and so lost their power. Fact grate leader is following his core beliefs and WILL cause Democrats to lose their power. Fact term limits, accountability, and no taxpayer parachute would solve the majority of problems in short order. Fact while I disagree with you I do not dislike you but since you feel that any who do not agree with you are to be slandered we will discontinue any further conversation. Good luck.
The economy was crumbling, and the dems were cowed into giving Bush everything he asked for. More fear from the republicans. Closed door meetings with Paulsen anyone? (I believe it was paulsen, forgot who was in charge with the revolving door republicans) I personally think they were spineless, but oh well. Regardless, most of your "facts" are irrelevent. It doesn't matter AT ALL if Obama said it would go over 8%. Sure, he should not have made a promise he has no control over. It's a minor sin compared to stuff other presidents have done. Care to explain what "grate leaders" core beliefs are, so we can all see your paranoid delusions of communism?
Honestly, this is just irritating now. I have been fortunate enough to have never been laid off. I have a small business that is weathering the storm as best we can. But to hear this nonsense is a joke. Politics aside, no bashing either side, for this article to actually be written and posted is a joke. It still stinks out there. I wish people would just speak the truth and be honest, I don't care what their "statistics" say. I don't know ANYONE that is better off than they were before this mess started.
stop complaining,
Yes this is just irritating to say the least,,,,and it is just nonsense.
I don't know where they come up with this information,,but people I talk to are very pesimistic about the nations economic status.
You hit the nail on the head Shack! This is prefabricated crap from an Obama supporting media outlet, politicians are all corrupt and the media is nothing more than a disgusting group of ass h o l e s that are there to try to sway public opinion one way or the other.
Just because one city is doing fine Sally, doesn't mean that everywhere else is. If we all move to Chicago to get jobs, is there going to be any left?
Exactly your city is probly crowded enuf what would you do if we all came looking for a job in chicago! unemployment rates might go up a lil bit! and if there were better candidates that came and applied for your job you'd be unemployed too!
@Sally in Chicago
Maybe we should just ask the Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus for a job.
And then to hear comments from republican's that are so far fetched out there it isn't even funny makes your skin boil. It is all just an economist strategy to keep republican's feeling good about themselves. The recession on Bush's watch started in December of 2007 and it was such a bad recession that it will take a very long time to recovery from this. The republicans will do anything and everything they can to get back power.
Point blank... You guys suck. How many of you pessimists are posting from work?
I'm at work. I hope you're online reading job listings.
Evening if you must temporarly take a "McDonald's" type job, do it! You'll be working. I don't know where you are located, but Jack in the box managers start at 50K!
I've lived through a number of recessions. Every time it is the same. Jobs lag the recovery. The official "ending of a recession" is determined by the NBER, and it has nothing to do with restoring jobs.
The recessions ALWAYS ends months or possibly more than a year before jobs recover. That's what happens when you vote for conservative trickle down policies. Or even moderate Democrats under the thumb of rethuglicans.
dontgivemethepenguin if that is all you can comment with, I feel sorry for you. Everyone, don't you just love it how some people place comments like dontgivemethepenguin's that sort of show they speak for the whole city and/or state.
A freeze in wages for over 2-1/2 years now is what I would still call a recession from my perspective and from many within the DoD industry. Government bureaucrats continue to give themselves raises while the rest of us who protect our country are frozen.
The state Dept of Labor or the Fed Dept of Labor? A lot of folks haven't had a raise...they should be glad to have a job. Times are just tougher....we're not growing jobs like we used to ...we're glad to have some employers hiring some employees...it's not the 1950s, 1960s, etc....it's the 21st century and it's not going to be like it was. Get used to it...retrain or wither.
Or move to China, Mexico, and India where they send all of the jobs.
@ Sally: Just because you have a job and things are rosy for you, it doesn't mean it is the same way for everyone else. I'm an Electronics Engineer with military training and I can't find a decent paying job to support myself and three children. Daycare is an arm and a leg, then there's the ever increasing cost of healthcare. Also, because of the way the market is, employers are no longer providing re-location assistance or the other incentives that they used to provide. I don't know what century you are living in, but employment WAS still growing before this recession and it should continue to grow. If the idiot politicians would start cutting taxes on small businesses, rather than raising them, we wouldn't be in this predicament.
Not everyone can afford to retrain either. Some companies don't have the funding to provide additional training and with the rising costs of schooling, people can't afford to work and go to school. You need to wake up and smell the coffee, because not everyone is as well off as you are. If I can't find another job next year when I graduate, I'll go to graduate school to get my PhD. I'm certainly not moving to Minnesota!!
What state are in? Eletronics Engineer? Ratheon in Los Angeles is hiring for your qualifications. You already have a Masters. Don't put school over your family. You choose to have 3 kids. What is the wife doing? This maybe just L.A., but I'm out every weekend and even during my lunch break people are shopping. TV's, e-games, new cars everywhere. The malls are full, and at COSTCO no one is walking out without having spent at $200. We know the employment situation, but we think things are getting better. I found a new job for less, then had a pay cut last year, and got it back 2 months ago. Is L.A., NY, CHI, ATL, MIA all in a bubble of a better economy?
I just realized that the comment I made with my vote sounds like bragging. Didn't mean to sound that way.
Fortunately I have worked for companies that sell products that have always been in high demand. I have never been laid off due to poor sales or a down turn in the economy. My last company moved down south and I took a layoff rather than move. I was laid off for 4 months and landed a job close to home, better pay and better benefits. That was two years ago and business is booming. My company had added at least 10 new employees in the last year.
Its kind of hard to tell which industries are in demand right now. We sell bedding so its always in demand.
My husband works for a private paving company. This year has been very slow due to the economy. People are not spending money to have their driveways paved. Usually he works up until Thanksgiving and is laid off for the winter. This year he will be lucky to work through the end of October. The last time his business was booming was when Clinton was president.
I have attempted to create my own business a few times and the hardest part of creating your own business is you have to find out what people in your area need that they cannot get anywhere else. Sometimes you also have to just take a chance and go with your own instincts and sell what you think is needed. Thanks to big department stores like walmart and target there is almost no possible way for any small business to compete against them and that is walmarts goal is to kill the competition. Now that walmart has taken their stores overseas the decline in small businesses will continue to grow. Unless you are a big business on the internet today who's name is already known you can almost forget about creating your own online store. In many ways the internet has brought us a lot of good but in many ways it will also help destroy us.
Well it's fantastic that you are still employed and you are able to afford such things but most people cannot. I for one cannot afford a tired let alone the rest of the vehicle :)
The NBER says that the recession is over "based on examination of data including gross domestic product, employment and personal income." GDP is up, but based on what products? Employment is up, but are people now underemployed in comparison to their past jobs? Personal income is up, but has it been eroded by reduced purchasing power?
GDP may be up, but our standard of living may have been reduced. Anyone have some factual answers to my three questions?
This just confirms that the present administration is out of touch with reality or is cooking the books to buy votes.
You comment shows that you have no attention to detail. This conclusion is from a PRIVATE organization, nothing to do with the administration. Stop watching FAUX news, learn how to read.
The NBER is a private organization that has been around for many years. There have been a steady stream of Nobel laureates participating in the group over the years. These are smart guys. However, although the recession may be over "by the numbers," I just can't help but wonder if we haven't fallen behind in actual standard of living. I'm also concerned about ripple effects of the recession into the future.
gees, your right. Didn't we recently have our Commander in Chief named. It was certainly earned> Yea, feed me some more BS.
rdshackleford
A private organization is paid by someone. Any guess who on this one??
Any proof of this or just the normal republician make crap up posting.
Any proof of this or just the normal republician make crap up posting.
you know exactly what it is....they need President Obama to fail and they'll do or say anything to make it so.
You're kidding, right? Dems use Freddie and Fannie to pad their pockets and run up huge debts, Bush tries several times to get them to straighten it out without them listening, and suddenly banks start failing because nobody they were forced to loan money to can pay it back. Obama rides in and starts spending money like there's no tomorrow, with a Republican minority fighting it all....and this is the Republican's fault?!
All I know is that I had to take a 25,000+ year salary cut just to be able to pay for my home and the basics I need. The government should've given the stimulus money to consumers to use, instead of people who (if otherwise were employed or not) would have been put into jail for what they have done, get rewarded for what they have done to each of us.
They DID give the stimulus to people to use...didn't you participate in the cash for clunkers and the appliance discount? So you want welfare, is that what you're saying? Are you a Tparty person? Bet you are.
go suck an egg Sally! We have lost our home and everything else--even had to sell our wedding rings--so close to being on the street
Geez, Sally, are you an American? - not very supportive of your fellow citizens!
All $ h i t heads please sit down and shut-up. That as a minimum would be Sally in shecargrow.
sally you are so stupid! how long do you expect a stimulus check to last! and if you are unemployed how the hell are you going to buy appliances to get a discount or a damn car! stay off those chicago streets please!
@ Sally: What kind of logic is that? Since when did tea partiers even support welfare? And cash for clunkers... The government couldn't even get that program right! GM and Chrysler -- who were in bankruptcy -- had to give loans to the dealers to keep the dealers solvent because the government wasn't paying up in time! In fact, a large dealer in the Boston area was owed $2M by the government on Cash for Clunkers and hadn't collected a single cent. You need to learn your facts.
Wow Sally!!You hit the nail right on the head like all Dems!!If you dont agree your a Racist Tea Partier!!Sorry but your wrong!Just because the number of layoffs is down doesnt mean anything is better it means everyone has already been laidoff!!!You need to quit watching CNN or CNBC and start watching (as you put it)Faux News!!!I was a Dem I voted for Obama and I watched those Gov news stations Then I woke up and started reasearching things on my own,Ill never give them a chance to make an Idiot out of me again! so do your self a favor do your own research and see were it takes you!
I was a Dem I voted for Obama
NO you weren't and no you didn't.
Are you kidding? A 25,000.00 cut? What was the original salary? And you're still hurting? Get a reality check! The people Obama is trying to help are not making that in a year! Maybe if you bought a Ford instead of a Beamer and stopped having your coffee at Starbucks every morning you could make it. "Basic needs" is not the same for everyone, obviously!
Are you a Tparty person? Bet you are.
Don't bet, Sally in Chicago.
You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
All $ h i t heads please sit down and shut-up. That as a minimum would be Sally in shecargrow.
dangstraight banned, out of chances.
did they figure this out while surfing porn in their offices
Things are just great. Have you tried to buy milk or eggs recently? How about gasoline? If things get any better I'll just have to quit working and go on public assistance like everyone else! Geeeeeeez!
We, in Nevada, are hurting real bad. With Harry Rieds Amnesty for Illegals, and our POTUS telling people, over and over, not to goto Las Vegas. We NEED real Leadership for our politicians for Americans, not Illegals, who should NOT even be here. My sons would love a job in landscaping /crop picking / Helping others / whatever it takes for some loose change in their pockets. As it is 18 to 24 year old workers have a 50 to 60 Percent unemployment. But the recession is over and now they might admit the depression has been on since july 2009.
So who are you voting for? Are you voting at all or just complaining?
With Harry Rieds Amnesty for Illegals, and our POTUS telling people, over and over, not to goto Las Vegas. We NEED real Leadership for our politicians for Americans,
I thought you tea party people were statists? Go bitch at your governor, or that other Senator you have in Nevada. You know the one who boinks his friends wives.
@Sally in Chigao
You'd better sit down, hon. All that arrogance is kind of like ether - makes you dizzy and if you sniff too much, you pass out.
And it is good to know that the lower schools let out in time so you can play on the 'puter when you get home.
WOW! Amazing. Now that the election is near, things suddenly are much better. Oops, somehow I missed the turning point. Oh well, I'm guess I'm just to stupid to recognise BS from reality. Now that everything is fine I'll take my paycheck (which I don't have) and go celebrate. Second thought, I'll think I'll wait and celebrate on election day at the poll. Vote these asses out!
Considering the nation's GDP only rose about 1.6% in the first half of the year, I would say we are in a growth Recession.
laugh out loud as I found your statement humorous.
ok, I just was not sure, if it was a sarcastic laugh or a reaction to not seeing the results.
Actually, any growth in the GDP that is below 3%, is consider a growth Recession.
I'm sorry...., I am thinking too much into this and sounding like a smart-ass.
Sh*t. What a joke.
Unfortunately, the joke is on us. Companies are outsourcing left and right, there have not been any salary increases ( that is , if u r lucky to still have a job), official ( unofficial) unemployment rate is high, house market is going down, many are still losing their houses, etc... Should I continue with the list? Like somebody else said, these guys are high on pot and taking Prozac...
PEOPLE, Please mention where you are. I'd like to get an idea were the real problems are. It should be more reliable than the news.
The National Bureau of Economic Research needs to get a grip. How can they expect to be taken seriously.
Just think of it this way.
It's like the National Weather Service saying, "The Category 5 hurricane has passed. It's safe to come out of your homes." Oh, but what a mess to clean up for months and years to come.
3 million foreclosures on the horizon, household net worth declines in Q2, people living below the poverty line increases; it's more like the NWS saying,"The Category 5 hurricane has passed, ignore the 140mph winds outside."
“Capital must protect itself in every possible way, both by combination and legislation. Debts must be collected, mortgages foreclosed as rapidly as possible. When through the process of law the common people lose their homes, they will become more docile and more easily governed through the strong arm of government applied by a central power of wealth under leading financiers. These truths are well known among our principal men who are now engaged in forming imperialism to govern the world. By dividing the voter through the political party system we can get them to expend their energies in fighting for question of no importance. It is thus by discreet action we can secure for ourselves that which has been so well planned and so successfully accomplished.” – US Banker’s Association Magazine
Interesting. And scary! Machiavelli would be pleased. I do see your point. Who is manipulating events behind the scenes for their fun and profit in our day?
Hey look, the Titanic just pulled into New York Harbour.
Just saying something does not make it so.
The only people the recession has ended for are Obama's cronies, they're all getting rich! Anyone heard of the Chicago Energy Exchange (I don't know the real name) that Obama and Gore are working on? They and their partners will each make billions! Way to redistribute the wealth, right into your own pockets!
The Chicago Energy Exchange will be the big winner if Cap & Trade passes. Most people have no idea about this. George Soros is another one of Obama's billionaire socialist friends that will benefit. OB is not watching out for the "regular" working people in this country. Let's not forget Andy Stern and the SEIU. His buddies and the unions are the big winners.
It may be the Chicago Climate Exchange. One of the buddy's who owns the patent to the technology they will use was the guy that ran Fannie & Freddie into the ground.
I lived through getting my gasoline only odd numbered days, friends getting rid of their Cadillacs, not eating out so much, people getting rid of zillion dollar homes...and this ain't that!
At least I don't remember word that people were losing their jobs left and right...perhaps because then we still had mostly word of mouth, tv, and newspapers...so the word didn't get out.
But this is MUCH WORSE.
I lost my home in 2007 mortgage upside down owed 300,000 house appraised 195,000 9.25 intrest rate kept going up,filed for chapeter 7 bk moved back with parents saved 3 percent down fha mortgage qulifyed after 2 years new rate 5.25 30 year fixed. Stupid Banks put a product out there to set people up for failure
Your story is the perfect example of what's wrong with this country. The banks did not put a gun to your head and make you signup for a 9.25 loan. It obvious that if your story is turn (got another loan two years later) we, as a nation, have learned nothing.
You are exactly whats wrong with this country rite now,and you are taking Obamas lead, blaming other people(in your case the banks) for your finacial blunder and poor planning, the banks did not set you up to fail,YOU did,if you could not afford this $300,000 house than why would you buy it.I want a Bently, but I cant afford it,so,guess what I dont have one, those dam car companies!!!!!!!Grow up Mike 2386559!!!!
I will be out of a job on October 22, 2010, due to the work I did move to India. And so did 28-30 of my co-workers. Jobs are still leaving the United State, and people are still and or going to collect unemployment. GO FIGURE
All this means is you have to get into a job that someone overseas CANNOT do....nursing...door to door sales...whatever...the Indians can't take those jobs away overseas.
You don't mention what job you had? If it was something that can be done over the phone or the internet, well yeh, companies are still moving jobs overseas. You should look at health care and education sectors for a job. And don't blame the president for your job loss. Blame the Capitalist companies that are disloyal to American workers.
Who regulates those capitalist companies (while giving them billions)? Would these companies still outsource if the government regulated against it?
The government, not necessarily the President, ARE responsible for the jobs going overseas. Two issues send the jobs there; Unions out of control, and lack of controls on the companies by the government. If the companies that ship jobs out of the US were charged higher taxes for not being a US company, not just a US BASED company, they would bring jobs home. But they are encouraged to do business overseas as a good will gesture by the politicians in charge. In the past imported items were charged huge import taxes on anything that was imported to the United States. American companies, in turn were charged import fees by countries that they sent their products to. It made for a sound trade system. I understand that it is a global market now, but it does not change the fact that each country has the obligation to protect it's own economy and workers over that of other countries in the name of good will. It is not a dem or repub thing, it is a politics thing. It needs to be made too expensive to send jobs out of the US, either to Mexico, India, or even Europe. Sadly, the majority of the jobs sent elsewhere are phone, technical help desk, and manufacturing jobs. Jobs that do not need an extensive education. This impacts many of the middle to lower income people making an even bigger class gap. The very high tech jobs are still here because they cannot get the cheap labor for them elsewhere.
Right on Texana! And don't forget the ridiculous amount of taxes the government keeps raising on businesses, that causes them to outsource. You have hit the nail on the head.
