Basic human psychology is if you keep hearing Islam "Wants *you* dead", then you are not too kindly in response.

The political will behind "Islam" is not religious interest but pure and simple need for power and control over populations. The way problem regions have developed is that advancement and reputation are all intertwined with how macho you are in the face of adversaries and can show your "peer group" your more "hard core" than the next guy. Mix with a lot of poverty and corruption and unemployment... bad stuff is going to happen.

And lets all stop pussyfooting around the central reality that within ANY community that studies the Koran eventually a sociopathic/psychopathic individual will take up the mantel of superiority that it teaches and start acting on those parts (as small as they may be) to convert or kill the kafirs (infidels).

Gee, do you think that I will get several additional breaks a day at work? That should make for some interesting union negotiations. Muslims get ? breaks a day to pray, therefore everyone else must get the same time off. Employers are going to love that. I smell a labor suit coming up if non-muslims don't get the same perks.

Michael Moore: Build Mosque ON Ground Zero

Some think of September 11 as a date for solemn remembrance. Others see it as another occasion for idiocy. Take Michael Moore's 9/11 message:

He says it's because Islam was "stolen" from the real Muslims at the Twin Towers, and it should be given back on the same spot. But he's not finished:

This is what I've been saying all along. When is enough enough? We cannot accomodate every culture in the world. Muslims and their religion for tis or that, Mexicans that can't speak english press 1 for english, having to print crapola in english and spanish. When will we start having to print it in every other language? This is America, you're here for a reason then start adapting our culture or leave and go back where you won't have to worry about any of the crap people are tired of over here. I don't see any accomodation in the country you came from accomodating any foreigner for any reason. Women go over there and don't wear a burka or scarf I can imagine what would happen. Ask to have a moment for prayer for any christian religion you can guess what the answer would be let alone the action against anyone.

Workplace bias against Muslims? My department recently hired two Muslim interns from local colleges. One of them was dismissed for repeatedly speaking inappropriately to female interns and employees. The other would rudely yawn in my face whenever I gave her directions about her work and was eventually dismissed for her very poor work ethic. Neither of them were prepared at all for the typical American workplace environment. Who is to blame for that? The other interns were prepared.

I know the intolerant of everyone forces will be posting on this subject and posting often, I too have something I would like to say.

If I were to choose to go to an Islamic country to visit or to work, I would be expected to abide by all laws and customs, including having my head and body covered, not entering a bar because I am a woman, and in some cases not being out alone for the same reason. This is something I would do because I made the free will choice to go to such a country.

So tell me, why is it O.K. for a Muslim to chooseto live in Western society, but decide to not follow the customs and insist on maintaining their own? Why should they think it acceptable to request prayer breaks, or for the women to walk around completely covered except for there eyes, or even for a Muslim man to refuse to speak to an American woman in the work place (and yes I have heard of this happening)? Why is it that Western society is supposed to make every effort to accommodate people who made the choice to live amongst us, but we are not supposed to expect them to abide by our customs? To me this is all about choice, and I fail to see why what a Muslim chooses to do is more important then what I choose to do, in the society in which I was born and raised?

You know, I'm not a fan of religion in general (well, what people do with it), but if I had to pick being something, being a Muslim would be the suckiest thing I could be.

Is that prejudiced? Hmmn, hard to say since basically it comes from finding out more and more about it. But whether it is or not hardly matters according to Muslims who want to build a Mosque at ground zero. After all, it is as stupid as you can be.

When Muslim leaders said that if we didn't allow them to build their mosque near ground zero they would institute terrorist attacks, I wanted to shove their mosque down their throats and make them swallow it. Better than that, we should make them go back to their home countries and eat the same dirt that they make their adherents eat.

As far as I'm concerned they can keep killing each other until nobody is left and make the world a better place.

A female Muslim worker in Disneyland is suing Disneyland to force them to allow her to wear a Hajib at work. Disneyland gave her the opportunity to work in a "non-costumed" job, but the worker refused.

Perhaps employers just do not want to spend hundreds of $thousands on useless lawsuits by Muslims making trouble.

By the way - this female worker worked in the costumed job for years, but recently decided to sue anyway.

I have taken the time to read the Kuran.. It is NOT a peaceful religion, it is NOT an acceptance religion. It is a my way or the highway religion, and lets kill everyone who is not my way. I worked in a factory with many Muslims, I worked side by side with a girl and one day asked her if she was required to pray to Mecca 5 times a day and she said yes, I then asked her how she was managing that, she told me that because we work 12hr shifts when she went home she did her prayers 5 times consecutively, she explained that there is understanding that muslims need to make a living and that its completely exceptable to do it that way.

Now, my question is, why can the many Muslims that I worked with do it that way and others absolutely refuse to?

Colonial Office, Public Records Office, London 1667, no. 170 records that "even Blacks referred to the White forced laborers in the colonies as "white slaves." Pages 343 through 346 of Historical Sketch of the Persecutions Suffered by the Catholics of Ireland by; Patrick F. Moran refers to the transportation of the Irish to the colonies as the "slave-trade."

Ulrich B. Phillips, Life and Labor in the Old South explain that white enslavement was crucial to the development of the Negro slave system. The system set up for the white slaves governed, organized and controlled the system for the black slaves. Black slaves were "late comers fitted into a system already developed." Pp 25-26. John Pory declared in 1619, "white slaves are our principle wealth."

The above quotations from various authors are just the tip of the iceberg on the white slave trade of the Americas. People from the British Isles were kidnapped, put in chains and crammed into ships that transported hundreds of them at a time. Their destination was Virginia Boston, New York, Barbados and the West Indies. The white slaves were treated the same or worse than the black slave. The white slave did not fetch a good price at the auction blocks. Bridenbaugh wrote in his accounting on page 118, having paid a bigger price for the Negro, the planters treated the black better than they did their "Christian" white servant. Even the Negroes recognized this and did not hesitate to show their contempt for those white men who, they could see, were worse off than themselves.

Governments have allowed this part of American and British history to be swallowed up. The contemptible black slavery has taken a grip on people associated with American History. Yet, no one will tell of these accountings that are well established on to the middle 1800's.

Slavery is not something to be proud of but it is a fact that happened to every country, kingdom and empire that has been on this earth. Each of us needs to search our hearts and find the answer to stop racial hatred. One place to begin; realize that the black race was not the only race in the last 400 years that was in bondage.

When you have circumstances like the one at Disneyworld where a woman who worked there decided to start wearing her headscarf in violation of a contract she signed when she agreed to work there. Disney bent over backwards to accomodate her by offering her a position that wasn't as viewable to the public so that she could wear her headscarf. She turned it down and last I heard she is suing. Is that the kind of "discrimination" we're talking about?

This blog must be almost entirely being responded to by American Indians with everyone talking about who we should let into OUR Country and all.

I found this year's 9/11 coverage to be awful, this article included. 90% of the coverage is about Muslim "victims". Very little about the 3000 killed and their families.

There are 120 million jobs in the US. 1400 complaints out of 120 million jobs does not even warrant a blip on the radar screen.

Disney and other employers have every right to mandate everything that gets presented to the public: clothes, jewelry, tattoos, makeup, beards, etc. This has been upheld in court many times. If you don't like it, take a job in the back, or work elsewhere.

Companies with production lines cannot accommodate every ethnic group taking a different break. This is not discrimination, this is business. Muslims need to be able to discern the difference.

Where is the moderate Muslim majority? My hope and prayer would be that 99% of the Muslims are in this country are peaceful and trying to be good neighbors. These Muslims came over here to escape Sharia law and to educate their daughters as well as sons. These people have to stand up loud and be heard. Martin Luther King won over white America with his pledge of nonviolence. People were forced to say: "Blacks are not all alike, there are elements that want justice and peace, not just rioting". King was roundly praised and criticized within his community for his stance.

My understanding is that when she was hired she didn't wasn't wearing the head garb, she worked for several months without wearing it...All of a sudden she figured out she was Muslim and needed to wear her head dress? Why is it I keep hearing this same excuse over and over again. Yes, they were here when the pilgrims arrived. However, war was brought to settle the dispute over the land and WE WON making this OUR LAND. Abide by it or GTFO.

If the rest of these socalled moderate muslims, would stand up and start denouncing the "minority extremists" we might start believing them that they are peaceful. When someone wants some time to perform a religious function, fine, but don't pay them for that time. That should apply to ALL religions. No extra pay for a religious holiday of any type. No extra pay for sundays, xmas, ramadan, hanukah, any of them. Feel free to parctice any religion you want, but don't expect to get paid for it. You want time off to pray in a certain way, fine, but that time is not paid time time off. If my religion says I am to dance naked in the woods, would I get paid time off to do it in the office? Nope.

We are the UNITED STATES of AMERICA because we are supposed to be UNITED. Not the divided states. People that come here can practice their religion any time they want, but nowhere does it say anyone has to pay them to do it. The same with employment. I learned a long time ago that if I did not want to work like my employer wanted me to, then I should find another job. The boss might not be right, but he was always the boss. When you accept a job, you are agreeing to do the job the way your boss wants you to. When a person who is disabled gets a job, employers must do their best to accomodate the employee but obviously you can't use a wheelchair on iron girders on the high steel. Most accomodations for the disabled are common sense ones. Obviously, a blind person would not be able to proof read a manuscript if it's not in braille.

I heard the imam that wants to build the mosque near ground zero say, it's a mosque, it's a community center that will work to offer diversity and opportunity to all, but will also have a mosque in side it. Hmm, will it have a church and synagoge too? Not very uniting. It has already been shown that some (the key word is some) mosques are used for teaching terrorists and planning attacks. They are also used to store weapons in. I haven't heard of too many christian, jewish, hindu, buddhist or other places of worship being used for such.

Trust is a two way street, and the same with respect. Both are given because they are earned, not required.

I just have to share a story that is on point, but also is funny (at least to those who worked there at the time) I dealt with these "prayer breaks" 8 years ago, while being a manager at a pet salon. After interviewing this guy and telling him he had the job, he told me that he had to ask his bretherin if it was okay to accept the job, because dogs are"dirty". Right then I thought this guy isn't gonna do well with this line of work, but I could not at that point take back my hiring of him and refuse to hire him because it would go against his religion and a lawsuit most likely would have entailed.

So he starts to work for the company and suddenly he is taking off several times a day, leaving his work and customers for us to deal with. When questioned, he states he is Muslim and is praying. So we tell him that he needs to CLOCK OUT when he is doing this. (since the company couldn't infringe upon his religious rights) He didn't like it but we prevailed on that one. Unless he was substituting his prayer time for his actual company breaks, would we allow him to remain on the clock. But he wanted his breaks and his prayer breaks, which was counter productive and made it more difficult for the rest of us who had to cover for him when he up and disappeared. He honestly expected to get paid during his prayer time.

Then we had issues because customers were complaining because he chose to pray on the floor of the mens bathroom. So then we had to find an area that he could go and pray without offending men using the restroom. I mean would you want to be using the urinal with some guy on the floor next to you? And he claimed dogs were dirty. Wow!

Not to mention that he was a guy and everyone else were women, so he acted as if he didn't have to listen to anyone of us, because we were female. We had to have a intervention meeting on that with the head manager, to let him know that that was one area where his religion could not and would not be accomidated. Basically, if a woman is the manager, he had to listen to what she had to say..period!

Well it wasn't long before he quit because while drying a dog, he wasn't paying attention and the dog pooped. Well when the high volocity dryers air hit the poop, he got showered with dog poop. I'm just glad now that I work for myself and have no employees, so I don't have to deal with everyone claiming they need prayer breaks, or Sundays off because of their religion. The time is set by 5 daily prayers which are to be done at set times which include prior to sunrise1 st prayer (fajr) about 5:20am, when the sun rises from the east and reaches its zenith (Dhuhr) about 1:03pm, and when the shadow of the zenith adds to the shadow of the object observed (Asr) about 4:45pm, when the sun completely sets at about 7:25pm, and the last prayer the night prayer when the redness in the western horizon is completely gone and the stars are out, (^Isha) at about 9:05pm. Therefore, your statement is illogical and inconsistent with the prayer practices which people of sincere and full faith perform daily on the times they need to have their breaks.

The problem with Americans is that as a country the majority of the population seems to actually enjoy working to live. They don't want change and are happy laboring as hard as they can for next to nothing wages to make somebody else filthy rich for 50 years. Perhaps Americans should travel the world more and see how other cultures live. I understand that you've been conditioned to feel like you need to work extremely hard without showing any remnance of another life outside of work but is that really a way to live? You can still work and actually be more productive if you are allowed more breaks and personal time at your place at work. I'm not saying we'll come up with the perfect solution right away, but when the majority of Americans make less than $40,000 per year while you could spread the national collective income across all citizens over 18 $300,000 per year for everyone, I think there's a problem.

Really? It is correct that it was Muslims who blew up the WTC. It is also correct a Christian blew up a building in Oklahoma City killing many, many children. Hey everyone, I thought I would chime in since I am an American (yes, born in grew up in, etc, not "naturalized", in the U.S.) I am also Christian, however I currently live in KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). Yes, I am not allowed to 'wear a bikini to the beach', however my particular family values from the US wouldn't have preferred that either, but that's definitely on the bottom of my list of enjoyed freedoms in the US....we go to church every Friday (the day off here) and I have several Muslim, as well as Christian friends here.
My employer is also gracious in allowing time off for "our" holidays, xmas, easter, and considerate when I am fasting during lent. On the flipside, when I used to live in DC, we had several Muslim colleagues who took breaks to pray.. about 5 minutes each.. and 2 or 3 a day, usually two, but three if they were working late. Women took breaks at work to pump (after giving birth), lots of people took smoke breaks and it was just considerate in general.

Just like extreme people from any religion or organization give the remainder a skewed image, in the same vain, we should all strain to get to know what it is we are so against. I personally don't get vegetarians, but I understand WHY they would make that choice, and wouldn't expect one to cook meat for me if I came to dinner (unfortunately)... I also have friends who are homosexual... not my choice of lifestyle, however I'm not going to pass up a wedding invite just because I personally don't agree.. and I'm certainly not going to antagonize... Arab Muslims that everyone keeps referring to are only about 1/4 of the Muslims in the world... anyone here traveled to Malaysia? Indonesia? etc etc etc...

We live in a country that was founded on tolerance, including religious tolerance. The issue is with the form of Islam that preaches an intolerance of ALL OTHER religions and advocates "death to the infidels". The fact is large numbers of free Negroes owned black slaves; in fact, in numbers disproportionate to their representation in society at large. In 1860 only a small minority of whites owned slaves. According to federal census reports, on June 1, 1860 there were nearly 4.5 million Negroes in the United States, with fewer than four million of them living in the southern slaveholding states. Of the blacks residing in the South, 261,988 were not slaves. Of this number, 10,689 lived in New Orleans. The country's leading African American historian, Duke University professor John Hope Franklin, records that in New Orleans over 3,000 free Negroes owned slaves, or 28 percent of the free Negroes in that city.

To return to the census figures quoted above, this 28 percent is certainly impressive when compared to less than 1.4 percent of all American whites and less than 4.8 percent of southern whites. The statistics show that, when free, blacks disproportionately became slave masters.

The majority of slaveholders, white and black, owned only one to five slaves. More often than not, and contrary to a century and a half of bullwhips-on-tortured-backs propaganda, black and white masters worked and ate alongside their charges; be it in house, field or workshop. The few individuals who owned 50 or more slaves were confined to the top one percent, and have been defined as slave magnates.

Speak for yourself. We kept track of one of our employees who smoked, to find he was 8 hours out of every pay period, on smoke breaks. Was he PO'd when his paycheck came in short? You bet he was but I'm not paying someone to smoke on the job. Nowadays if I smell smoke on someone when they come in for an interview I won't hire them. It stinks up the entire office and is unfair to the rest of us.

I understand your point of view socal-2350064 but Muslims have to pray 5 times a day. Fajr is from dawn to sunrise or when you wake up. Zuhr is early afternoon. Asr is late afternoon. Maghrib is after sunset. And Isha is prayed before you go to bed.

Why not abolish ALL recognized religious holidays and all vacation time, and provide instead 10, 15, or 20 (or whatever it takes) "significant" holidays to EVERYONE that each individual can use on his or her religious, cruises, camping, or otherwise days. That would include people of faith, people of unfaith and so forth. Then provide however many "significant" breaks for everyone during each work or school day required to accomodate most every religion or unreligion. Those who wish could use it to pump, others could shoot a few hoops or run a lap or two, others could snooze, others could smoke, others could get a cup of java, and others could kneel as required of their particular faith. There would no longer be official religious or unreligious breaks for other holidays or unbelievers to feel slighted about, but those with some persuasion could go about their perceived duty to faith without any privilege not enjoyed by others. Seems like a prescription for both mental health & tolerance.

Geez, I see I am a day late. I have a few comments. They are all over the place and just my opinion. I started reading these articles yesterday about the Mosque being built and growing discrimination against Muslims. Personally I don't have a proplem with the Mosque because It is not actually being built at ground zero but several blocks away. It makes for quite a media circus though to get people in an uproar and open old wounds by slightly skewing facts.

I guess I will go one at a time. I agree with bsbfanKaren. If you chose to live in a different country other than your own you should adapt. Now Jean-2353081 talked about living in Saudi Arabia and how open they are but I thought that was silly because Saudi Arabia is one of the richest countries in the world, wealth gives you the benefit of being more lax with religion and policies in general. Places like Saudi Arabia and Egypt are not really Muslim nations, they are Arab secular nations with a Muslim population. That's why Usama Bin Ladin left his "wealthy" up bringing so he could live and caves and mountians in the trenches so to speak with the "real" Muslims. By making himself seem poor he can be a bridge between both worlds. Most radicals still have ties to the wealthier nations so the wealthy nation still has the same agenda of the poor nation. Actually the have many agendas but the poor nation never really catches on. A parallel would be the idea that poor Americans are sent to war to support the wealthy here in the United States. Wealth corrupts the same no matter where in the world it is. Wealth makes some blind to the atrocities committed, why care whenyou are wealthy? Then I wanted to comment on Kste. No one comes back and reads these I bet LOL. Anyway, when discrimination of any kind is brought up someone mentions all Black Schools, Black Panthers, and The United Negro College Fund. I think this is silly also because these programs where created back when Blacks were called Negro's and had no rights as equal citizens. If you couldn't go to a white college because your life would be a living hell and if you still wanted an education you had to go to a all black college. White Americans didn't want to be bothered with Blacks/African Americans. A minority of whites wanted to make changes but most liked things as they were. Lots of people like feeling superior, doesn't matter what color you are. So you get something like The Black Panthers. Who wants to be oppressed all the time? Who wants to feel like they are being oppressed? ie "This new Tea Party business." Some whites go to all black colleges, the 60's ...that's only 50 years ago. The United Negro College Fund, which I didn't use by the way, is open to all minorities. My point is white Americans created the need for these special groups because they didn't want to deal with people with black skin, so blacks had to help themselves. We've all come along way. Change takes time, America is still the greatest, that's why people keep coming here. We are not as clever or as picky as Canada!!!

Finally, slavery and Native Americans are always brought up also. I am not going to touch the Native American issue but I will comment on Shawn (a.k.a. "shadow")'s post about white slaves. Sure there were white slaves. One neat fiction book about that is Testimony of an Irish Slave Girl by Kate McCafferty. Does that fact stop people from discriminating against other races or people of their own race (or skin color)? Heck no. People tend to care about what they are going through not the commonality of all humanity.

I own a business. I CANNOT allow people just to step out and do other things while I have customers that need attention. IT DOES AFFECT ME!

Tina, observant Jews don't work on Saturday, either, but of course, many businesses aren't open that day anyway. Federal law states that businesses over a certain size must accommodate religious beliefs "unless it would cause undue hardship." I could see how that would be a problem if you ran a store, restaurant, etc., and the other employees rotated weekends off; OTOH, maybe some could get every Saturday off in exchange for working every Sunday. It's worth it to go the extra mile to keep really good employees. At the same time, employees should be upfront with such special needs from the beginning, and should avoid jobs that will obviously cause a problem.

Any religious practice has no place in the private work place. What may be seen as racial is more likely a way for companies to avoid lawsuits from other religions or beliefs. Private business has its own needs. What I suspect people should do is ask before they are hired and if the company does not allow something move on rather than accept a job where you know the rules. If something is important to any employee they should prove it by asking before accepting a job. I don't know many companies that would be willing to expose themselves to the lawsuit by making a special time for certain people. This is like begging to be sued.

EliMae, you need to read Leviticus. Most if not all of those chapters are God speaking to Moses. The entire bundle of laws received by Moses are called the Law of Moses. Christ introduced a new covenant and fulfilled or superceded the Law of Moses through his atoning sacrifice. Christ's sacrifice superceded the need for animal sacrifices in the Law of Moses.

There are also several chapters in the 4 gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) where Christ superceded other portions of the Law of Moses. For example, "eye for an eye" replaced with "turn the other cheek". "Love your friends only" replaced with "love your enemies".

But some things do not change. Genesis 19 describes the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah because of improper sexual behaviors including homosexuality. Leviticus 18 outlines several sexual behaviors that God considers abominations including homosexuality since the chapter came from God's mouth (verse 1).

This is also evident in the NT. Paul mentions in Romans 1:18 that the wrath of God is revealed against all ungodliness and unrighteousness. Then he proceeds to describe what that means. In verses 26 and 27 he mentions the ungodliness of homosexuality. He has the same message in other letters - 1 Corinthians 6:9, 1 Timothy 1:10. Jude also mentions homosexuality in 1:7.

God loves all of His children. We all make mistakes. We are not all perfect. We all have trials and challenges to live with and overcome. We are all free to act the way we want as long as its legal. Gay marriage is legal in a few states, but this does not change God's attitude towards homosexuality. If one believes the Bible to be the word of God through His prophets and apostles, one cannot hide from the chapters and verses I mentioned above. Those verses do not give Christians a reason to hate homosexuals. Christ taught us to love all as children of God.

So how does this apply to Muslims? It has taken years for Christians to learn how to accept gay people and at the same time to not condone homosexual behavior. And the struggle continues every time a gay person demands special treatment outside the bounds of the Constitution. As long as Muslims demand special treatment in America and do not take action against extreme Muslim groups, Christians will not accept them.

All religious manuals are other peoples opinions, and if you want to believe it is the solemn word of God, you only thicken the plot of intrigue, conspiracy, and perversion. I don't need any book to tell me murder is not the best way to be a conscience being living in flesh. It is almost impossible to fathom the ancient worlds thinking process, and how they came up with the conclusions they did. When as a child I wore diapers but, I don't ware them anymore. Some things are best left in history. as so many diapers that got left behind (no pun intended). These old vacuum cleaner manuals that we use to live by today, are not that useful anymore because they interfere with the running of a modern state. Only once, but I made my way the whole way through. The new covenant is well within my ken. It's my whole point, in fact. Some Christians still live by those rules, just like some Muslims still live by the more violent passages in the Koran. Likewise, some Christians only live by the New Testament, just like some Muslims see nothing wrong with befriending non-Muslims and living in harmony with other faiths. But you Christians seem to be quite offended by my suggesting that your holy text is violent and therefore you must be violent. Dwell on that for just a little while the next time you want to judge all Muslims by the worst passages in the Koran.

Personally I avoid places like Disney World because of my irrational prejudice against six foot tall mice. But I'm a very big proponent of companies being allowed to run their businesses as they see fit. This is assuming they make reasonable accommodations and are upfront about the rules before actually hiring anyone. There is no federal law banning dress codes.

EliMae- there are always going to be people who misinterpret things. There is no way not to. We are not God and we don't know exactly what God has in mind for us. I think Christians have a right to be upset at the belief that our religion is violent because we are brought up in the belief that Jesus loves all and so should we. Sure sometimes people take their religious views too far. We are human, we screw up. It's going to happen. I think people are born sinful. It's not our fault...we are human...born that way. We are naturally violent, angry, selfish... It is only through God's grace that people can even begin to shed their sinful ways and live the life that Christ wanted us to. A life of love, of understanding, and a life of showing the amazingness of God to others.

On a strictly practical basis, if certain groups insist on special prayer breaks or more holidays than are currently given by employers, of COURSE it will annoy the other workers. If I work with someone who expects me to cover for them because they have to have several prayer breaks a day or more days off from work than anyone else gets, then YES I'll resent it. I have a doctor friend who worked with a Muslim doctor. He had to take several prayer breaks every day and he took every religious holiday off. The problem wasn't his religion. The problem was that his practice of that religion affected everyone else around him. The ones we call radical are just beleivers in the Koran. The ones we call moderate are doing their job of misleading us into thinking they are harmless. The Koran says that a Muslim must never side with a non-beleiver against another Muslim so that is why the so called moderates never protest the violence brought by their brotheren. The Koran also tells believers to lie to non-believers in order to achive their goals. Thus, you cannot believe anything a Muslim says.

Allowing others to practise a religion freely should not include the their right to seek to harm us. Islam is NOT a religion of peace and so-called moderate Muslims are NOT stepping up to stop those who would seek to harm us in the name of Allah. Back 40 years ago when we fought against racism here in the US, I also was fighting against capitalism...and religion. I knew then what some in this thread know now: Religions (all of them) are organizations that are used to control people's minds, exercise power (ultimately military power) over others, and exploit people economically. (I thought you knew this too, hence my surprise at your conversion.) Muhammad was first and foremost, a military leader. His spiritual nature was concocted during the decades and centuries after he lived, and documented in the Qu'ran and other writings. I used to believe that this was exactly the case with Jesus and the Bible, but lately I have grown to doubt that Jesus ever existed at all. Still, clearly, in the years that followed Jesus' alleged life, other men created the myth of his divinity, along with the dogma that is the Bible.

Religion and the belief in God are delusions. European and American Christians have underpinned their colonizations, genocide and enslavement of South American, Africa, North America, Australia, India and just about everywhere else with their religion for several hundred years. Send in the missionaries first then send in the miners, settlers, etc. Likewise, Muslims have been doing the same thing for just about the same time period. And today, Muslim theocracies are some of the scariest, backwards places on Earth. Not that living in the U.S., a country that invades other countries, kills thousands, and calls it democratization, isn't pretty scary in and of itself. But the whole 10th century lifestyle thing is just way too much for me bro.

I understand the human need to believe in a higher power. It can be scary and bewildering, being human on our little planet. But I also understand that religion and the belief in god is outdated, given our modest scientific progress and the understanding that it has given us of what it means to be human and live on a planet, in a solar system, in a galaxy.

So, I have become totally intolerant of religion, all religions. I don't want any more mosques, synagogues, or churches built. I don't want to see any crazy preachers burning Qu'rans or anybody working in an American company, in a customer relations position, complaining that they should be able to wear a kufi, turban, burka, or whatever. I don't want to see any more Biblical quotes, ever! I don't want any of my Christian family coming to my house for dinner and trying to make me say grace. I've never believed in god, Jesus, Krishna, or any holy book for one day in all my 60 years. And now days, I don't want to be tolerant, I don't want to hear the B.S., I want people to wake up from their delusion and take responsibility for their own lives. Mind you, I am aware that this is not in Arabic but I suspect that three translations give a pretty good triangulation on the gist:

PICKTHAL: They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them,

This is just ONE example. I don't mean to disparage any particular individual (including yourself), but I cannot find comfort in a religion that knowingly wants to kill me. DO you reject those lines in the Koran? Keep in mind that I reject equally similar language in all of the holy books tied to the god of Abraham.

This is also from Sura 4, same source noted above, that explains how to deal with lewdness. Note that women are essentially condemned to death unless Allah intervenes. Men can repent and everything is hunky-dory.

Jews and their yarmulkes. Orthodox Jews and their thing about working on Sundays. Christians and their crosses. Christians and their thing about Sundays. Hindu's, there's a sect of Hindu's that can not cut any body hair according to their reglion. Every relgion has special holidays they don't work on, including Christians, the difference being there is that christian relgious holiday's a government sponsored. (christmas, easter). My employer makes all kinds of accodations for it's christian and catholic workers. I've seen none for the other relgions of the world. Again, no one is persecuting christians here in America, get over yourself.

DaveKY...I learned in my early childhood community to be tolerant of at least five different religions. We were taught the beauty of each without having it rammed down our throats. The problem in America today is a total lacking of "listening". People spend more time jawing on cell phones and have lost all touch with silence and the benefits it provides. I may not particularly like those who ram their religion down my throat. But, I can be tolerant of their rights to practice. You learn nothing by jawing and never listening.

There is already a federal law that says businesses have to accommodate their employee's religions unless it would cause "undue hardship". Of course the devil is in the details.
