See, that's what all you people get for buying all these foreign pieces of crap!! BUY AMERICAN! If you want to drive a foreign piece of crap, then go to another country......this is AMERICA!
Hey bruner. So we can all assume that your TV is made in the USA? Impossible since no TVs are 100% made in the US anymore. How about that cell phone or your computer? Most people buy what they buy because of the value they get for their dollars. Don't blame them for buying foreign, but blame Detroit for not putting out a competitive product. Look thru your newspaper ads for auto sales. How many dealers of domestic cars do you see? If your paper is like mine, it's about 1 to 10 ratio, 1 being a dealer of American cars.
so your solution is to buy a Ford, built by Canadians with their 'Socialist' Gov't, as opposed to a Honda built in America (Ohio) by non-union capitalist workers?
Plus you forgot to count Chrysler. Well they are owned by an Italian company, and they do have a ton of plants in Mexico.
That's funny! If you drive a car/truck made in the last 15years -You drive a Foreign car! haha you think your Chevrolet Silverado or Cadillac Escalade or Ford fusion along with many many others are made in America?? Not hardly.
My Honda was built in Lincoln Alabama by a bunch of Union "good ol boys"...and girls. ALL cars and trucks are made at least partially in other countries. There is no such thing as "made in America" . There are only percentages. "?% Made in America"
You cannot be serious! You want me to leave the United States (which is not America) of America because I drive a Honda? What brand of television do you own? DVD? Camera? Please resume watching Glennie Boy Beck for next bit of fantasy!
Shut the @!$%# up dumb ass. If American auto makers made a product that was worth buying maybe they would sell more. Remember the ford/firestone cover up.
ok, this is the most stupid thing i ever heard of. driving 101: place car in park and turn off the ignition ! those that dont should have thier cars roll away and then thier licence taken away!
Amen to that Karn... I drive both a car and a truck with a manual transmissions, no interlock there and I don't hear anyone complaining about all the Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth Stratus/Cirrus/Breeze that had the same problem, also you could take them out of park without the key in them...
Clearly this is all Honda's fault for being a company owned by the Japanese. (please note sarcasm)
When was the last time u looked under ur so called American hood ? At least 75% (to be modest) of the materials used on your so called "AMERICAN CAR" is IMPORTED !
as a fleet manager, I get about 5 recalls per year on each model we own.. recalls are incredibly common and usually for American brands like Ford, Dodge, and Chevy.
This is just another example of the media trying to hype up something that is non-news. The Toyota thing was only hyped because the potential problem was dangerous. Funny thing about that, Motor Trend (or Car and Driver, can't remember which) did a test where they took a Toyota out to 70 mph and measured stopping distance, then did it again while holding the gas pedal to the floor and it took about 5 feet more to stop at full throttle. People got hurt because they failed to remain calm and use their head when the throttle stuck.. instead of applying the brakes, they just panicked instead. Toyota would have simply issued a recall after figuring out for sure what the problem was, and it would have been like any of the hundreds of recalls each year. Instead, the media hyped it up and the world panicked. Now they are attempting it again.
Do you even know what fleet vehicles Dave is in charge of? I don't think so about 13-15 million vehicles are recalled every year Chrysler and Ford are usually number one for the year with 2-5 million cars recalled. I do think Dave over stated recalls he has on his vehicals he probably gets 10-20 recall a year.
you evidently didn't do your research maybe you should look at the numbers you might learn they all have many many recalls
a Recall Dose not mean They have Quality issues Ford is a great car but they recalled more than 7 million last year
It's not as bad as Toyota's unintended acceleration, but still serious. Maybe they ought to rethink their ads stressing safety, until they can fix this problem. Maybe the Asian work ethic needs to be jacked up a bit!
If you look up the Recalls you would find it is for differentthings. some times their is more than one issue the proses of repair is fix what is wrong then retest.
Toyota did have an issue, but it is also known many of the compliants were driver errors...you never seen Wild Video's and the people stepping on the "brake" and driving into buildings ?
I have an 08 honda accord....I am suppose to take it back because I might pull the key out while it is not in park and it could roll away....this, is a safety hazard ??? You must be kidding me.
Doesn't seem like much of a safety issue. They are being safe by issuing the recall. Of all the vehicles they make, how many accidents were there because of the problem? And it is only an issue when the vehicle is not running.
You obviously were not properly maintaining them. We have a 57 Ford truck with who knows how many miles and STILL is working great, a 70 p/u with 180,000+ a 95 Cougar with 190,000+ and a brand new Mercury Mariner..........all of which were bought brand new!
Your 57 and 70 were built when cars were well made in the US. Your most recent vehicle has no history. You can't say anything about it's future repairs. So it looks like you are amazed that your 95 got to 190,000. So am I. And what did you spend to keep the 95 Cougar running? I have 295,000 on my 95 Accord, the body is rusting away, but it runs well. Your car will never see those miles. Spent plenty keeping it maintained and some repairs, but I haven't needed a new car in 15 years. My Accord has never broken down while driving. I purchased a new 02 Dodge Dakota, which has broken down 3 times requiring towing and needed many parts replaced.
I think you are not being completely honest if you put 300,000 miles on a car and only had some minor brake work done. I am not adding up my repair bills, but the majority of new "American" cars are junk. Your one vehicle is hardly representative of the majority of American cars. Just look at the vehicle ratings in CR.
Did regular maintenance and tuneups and always kept the body clean, it was a great car and I never had any issues with it...
Most people would be surprised how long ANY vehicle can last if you actually maintain it correctly...
I also have an 1986 trans am with over 150,000 miles on it... Not one spot of rust on it and it runs like a top... It has never seen winter and regular maintenance was performed on this car as well...
Yeah, because Im actually going to believe consumer reports... It's been no secret that the foreign auto companies have been in the pockets of consumer reports for years and it's actually pretty obvious...
Heck, CR even admitted to giving certain toyota vehicles 5 star ratings without even driving the actual vehicles...
CR is Going to have a hard time convincing me that kia makes a better car then cadillac such as they have suggested in the past..
I thought this country was built on chose. I guess you don't want people to have rights. I was brought up to believe the reason you have corporation is to show how much you can shine buy driving Forward. I guess you don't believe that
I don't like riding in cars made in Japan, Auto 101, since most of the recalls I've read about lately involve Japanese automakers, but I don't expect ALL Japanese automakers to be so ridiculously dangerous. Haven't heard of any recalls from Nissan, Subaru, or any of the other Japanese automakers selling cars here in the U.S.
It's just Toyota and (to about 15 degrees) Honda that are tarnishing the Japanese automotive industry a bad name.

80,000 tires recalled did you hear about it? millions more tires have been recalled in the last year have you heard any of them? have you taken the time to look up you stuff to see if it is recalled?
apparently bruner forgot about names like Pinto, Gremlin, Vega, AMC,etc. and how many owners of Ford/GM trucks were burned or died when they had gas tank explosions. Recalls are inevitable in a world where humans are involved. bruner must also be selectively reading his news, since GM, Ford and Chrysler have also reported recalls in the last several months as well.
Note to Bruner - most of the Hondas ARE made in this country - they have plants in 35 cities in the US. Also, if you look at Consumer Reports Honda and Toyota has ranked at the top as far as reliability goes for years and years. It's only been recently that US cars have begun to equal the quality that has been present in Japanese cars. I drove my last Honda for 16 years...
I am AMERICAN, just don't buy the cars. Want something to last buy, buy foreign! Have had 4 Hondas all averaging 275,000 plus in miles. Got rid of AMERICAN car with just 89,000. Dumped too much money into it. Or shall i say into yhe AUTOWORKERS Pockets.
If the Toyota issue was driver error then why did it happen to only Toyota drivers, and in fact only certain Toyota's?
You have to take a true leap of faith to make the assumption that Prius drivers are somehow more prone to using too many floor mats and mistaking the gas for the brake.
I've noticed that the same type of people who holler 'Buy American! are the same people who love to tout 'Free Market Principles". But they never notice that those two positions are juxtaposed. Why is that?
Well, I'm not an ignarant redneck, that's for sure. And I don't eat that support america guilt trip automakers are feeding us 24/7. And yes, read, discuss, analyze. That's the key.
I have owned over 23 cars in my lifetime. The best was a Honda Accord Station Wagon I gave away at 178,000 miles. There was never a major problem with the car at all. There was a AC valve that was replaced for free and a free update to the distributor. But I would buy a Honda as a first choice anytime.
Yea and pay some union worker  his $75 a hour,by people making $20,the unions screwed them selfs, there pay keeps going up,while there product goes down in quality
hey tired,i believe they make more like $60 an hour, which about a third goes into retirement and healthcare.the rest is what is income.they negotiated that wage over many decades with the OWNERS of these auto plants.the workers build the automobile, they don't design it!quit blaming the workers!!!
You ALL are missing the entire point here, you are still supporting the foreign companies. The money is going to fatten the pockets of all of the Jap's. While we, in America, are stiving to survive. just sayin'.........(siiiiiiiiiigh)
GM and Ford are not foreign companies to the rest of the world? So if they are, they should stop selling to all other conties outside the the US? Dude this isn't the 1950's any longer.
hey bruner,at least the money "goes to fatten the pockets of all the japs".and the money made by the greedy auto owners here in america goes to fatten the two pockets of one CEO.
A car built in Canada mostly benefits the Canadian worker, the Canadian gov't and the CAW (union). How does that most directly help the plant guy in Wisconsin?
to those that think this is a big deal get real..... the article says its possible to remove the keys without putting the car in park, while it can be looked at as a big deal dont forget the key doesnt pop out of the ignition on its own, you have to pull it out so unless you have a serious mental lapse and dont put the car in Park this isnt shouldnt be an issue, i mean how many people would be stupid enough to turn their car off while its stilll in drive????? Honda is doing this just to make the safest car in the world even safer. We've owned honda for 10 years now and not a single problem.... i doubt many people that own domestic products can say the same thing
There have been talks that Ford and Volvo were going to part ways. As with Ford and Mazda. By year's end, Ford is discontinuing Mercury brand, much like Chrysler did wth Plymouth. Another car that usually ranks high along with Volvo is Saab. But a car is only as safe as the person who drives it. Mainly this article was about Honda recalling cars for what would appear to be a minor problem. But somehow it turned into a political argument. I have nothing against foreign cars. I drive an American brand, a Dodge Dakota. I don't punish the truck at all. The only problem with it is the engine light keeps turning on when there is nothing wrong with it. I've checked. People who drive foreign brands like Honda, Toyota, etc... are use to those brand of vehicles much like anyone who drives an American brand cars like Ford, Chrysler, and GM are use to those brands. I've always bought American because I'm use to American. I'm not saying I wouldn't buy foreign. It's purely choice. I've test driven Accords, Genesis', and Camry's just to name a few foreign cars, and I personally thought about buying one in the future. But more than likely, I'll probably stick with what has worked for me. I had a '96 Neon with a Mitsubishi motor. But here's a question that should be asked, how foreign are foreign cars and how American are American cars? This is America, the land built on choice. Choose what you want.
Not to make an argument, but here is a little humor you can appreciate. My dad has a '94 Dodge Ram 3500 with it's original Cummins Diesel engine with 500,000+ miles on it. Over the course of it's life, it had claimed 6 deer, a Honda Civic, and Hyundai. LOL. And just recently, a Chrysler PT Cruiser with the rear bumper that hit him.
"BUY AMERICAN! If you want to drive a foreign piece of crap, then go to another country......this is AMERICA!" You are stupid and ignorant, why do you think foreign cars are doing so well in the market, because no one wants to over pay for a car that sucks down gas like there is no tomorrow and are not that well made anyways. You are the type of american that thinks the US is the best at everything...I'm sorry to tell you, but half the stuff you do, you make into one big cluster@!$%#.
Sad but true. This is what happens here because we keep lowering the bar in education, and then allow all those peeps to post they're dumb@ss comments online.
Want to support a bunch of elitists, polititians and lobbyists while driving a POS? Buy AMERICAN!
At least those cheap foreign countries are owning up to their problems. Too bad GM did not admit to a mistake in the design of their 1999 engines which allowed water to seep into the engine and blow them.i have one of those heaps in my driveway, and I know of one othe person locally who had the same problem. Buy American and throw your money away.
Hey BillyBoy-298303 got to hand it to yeah about the Gm Problem. Most of it was due to going to Dexi-Cool Antifreeze and second the construction of the gaskets that made it the week point of the engine. That included 3.1, 3.8, 4.3, and also witch I've seen the most 5.7 Litters come in making oil. The slution to this problem check your oil often and go back to the good old green.
bruner - go off and wank your detroit stick. I drove that motor city crap for years (of course, only to about 100K and enduring many repairs). Want a list? 1970 Chevy Malibu, 1974 Mercury Bobcat, 1978 Buick LeSabre, 1980 Camaro, 1986 Jeep Cherokee, 1996 Dodge Intepid. Gave up on US steel in 2000 after the Intrepid basically blew up. That's 6 US cars in 30 years - average one every 5 years. The Camaro and Jeep were the only decent cars out of the bunch.
Bought my first Toyo 10 years ago (1994 - used) and I'm still drving it, at over 220K. The only thing I've done to it is replace the rad & hoses. Bought my wife a Honda Civic 8 years ago (used as well - 1996) and she's still drving that too (She's at 205k). Bought my kid a used 96 Camry 5 years ago (at 140K) and no problems now that she's at 178K. So, my Toyo is 16 years old, my wife's Civic is 14 and my kid's Toyo is 14. Foreign pieces of crap my %$$
first of all, I do not have one of those things and second, NO ONE ever got the point of the entire discussion!! Shoulda known better than to try to talk w/a bunch of STUPID men. Oh wait, sorry that was a double standard!!!! hahahahaha
You picked the wrong brands. You should have driven Fords. I have had them since my first car and they have always been great, reliable cars and trucks until some pinhead with crappy insurance would run a stop sign or red light and destroy them for me. My wife on the other USED to drive foriegn junk that would break down. Always bought new. Nissan Maxima SE, complete junk always in the shop. Honda Accord EX Coupe. If a theif wasn't driving it, it was in the shop for hoses and electrical problems. An Eagle Talon that was great till it exploded a rod and a Toyota Solara that was the best of the bunch, but had 9 recalls for the 18 months we owned it. Then fianlly she bought a Ford Explorer. She owned it longer than any other car she has had and traded it for a Fusion SEL, because she was driving 130 miles round trip to work when gas was $4 a gallon. 2 years later still going strong. NO RECALLS, NO SERVICE other than regular maintenance and it was $10K less than a Camry or Accord and yes we drove both of them and they are junk compared to the Fusion. Never liked Chevy's, but my In-Laws did till I came along. Now they have 4 Fords and won't buy anything else.
But it's OK keep spending more on the Rice Burners for less car and I will keep laughing as I pass you with a trunk full of money in My FORD.
OH WAIT maybe you will pass me in your KAMAKAZI TOYOTA that won't stop or your RUNAWAY HONDA you thought was parked in your driveway!!!!
Oh and Pete the Plumber Fords are by far the Best cars for the money. Just check it out and you will see for yourself.
Look Finally I have a 1979 Ford Rancho with over 180,000 miles on it along with a Ford F150 that has over 525,000 on her with no problems with a few minor mechanical problems that anyone in there right mind could do. Fuel pums and water pumps and some hoses so get off your high horse you must of road them cars and trucks of your like no other. Meaning ride them hard and putting them away wet. Get a service plan silly.
I never had any luck with Fords. My grandfather owned a POS and I owned an Explorer. I paid for that thing twice in repairs. I own an 07 Corolla with 100,000 bought brand new. The computer did go out, but was under warranty. Better than I can say for the Explorer. It had 3 recalls while I owned it, but also had to have other things fixed when I took it in.
No matter what brand of car you own, you are always going to have problems. I've owned them all. I have had the best luck with my Toyota truck, Acura Integra, and had only one issue so far with my Corolla.
2 FORD FOREVER: read my list a little closer.... last I heard Mercury was made by Ford. That car was the worst of the bunch. Put it this way, that Bobcat turned me off Ford forever. Granted I shouldn't have expected much from a re-badged Pinto.....
See, that's what all you people get for buying all these foreign pieces of crap!! BUY AMERICAN! If you want to drive a foreign piece of crap, then go to another country......this is AMERICA!
dude you should think about taking an cultural diversity class.
You do realize that Hondas are built in the USA by American labor? Most American cars are built in Mexico by Mexican labor.
bruner--
my wifes Honda was made in America... My neighbors Ford was made in Canada...Got a solution to that?
yeah, it's North America
don't believe Bruner one bit, dude drives a KIA

bruner....go to the US web site for logging complaints for cars and get some information regarding recalls before you sound off.
The number one rule for being a whinner is be right....you just violated the number one rule.
PS, my favorite cars are honda, and ford....had 4 of each.

2001 Ford Focus now at 125,000 miles
5 Window regulators
2 master window switches
all 4 wheel bearings
2 thermostats

front pads and rotors
2 sway bar end links
2 strut mount bearings
center console lid
hood release
A/C compressor
power steering rack and pump
4 tires
Valve cover gasket
IAC valve
all this in the first 65,000 miles only the A/C compressor was under warranty. after that I have not had any other things in the last 60,000 miles.
Subaru Outback now 55,000 miles
oil changes
.

.
that is it no other repairs
Bruner,
Can you please take a quick look under your keyboard and tell us where it's made? Thanks!
IF it's not made in the US, practice what you preach and MOVE THE 'F to where your keyboard's made!

Oh, and the body isn't rusting away...

80,000 tires recalled did you hear about it? millions more tires have been recalled in the last year have you heard any of them? have you taken the time to look up you stuff to see if it is recalled?
Most of these "foreign pieces of crap" were built in America.
Toyota never had a issue with unintended acceleration its just dumb people who would pile up floor mats and the pedal would stick on to them
That include the couple that died with their floormats in the trunk due to the recall?
apparently bruner forgot about names like Pinto, Gremlin, Vega, AMC,etc. and how many owners of Ford/GM trucks were burned or died when they had gas tank explosions. Recalls are inevitable in a world where humans are involved. bruner must also be selectively reading his news, since GM, Ford and Chrysler have also reported recalls in the last several months as well.
get a bicycle no recall problem
Bicycles won't protect you from recalls. Like everything else around you, bikes can still be recalled.
Ah, but you forget Fords recent recall for “floor mats issues”, http://wot.motortrend.com/6651601/recalls/ford-fusion-mercury-milan-go-under-recall-investigation-for-floor-mats/index.html.
So it seems this may be a driver issue.
Question:
I've noticed that the same type of people who holler 'Buy American! are the same people who love to tout 'Free Market Principles". But they never notice that those two positions are juxtaposed. Why is that?
Because they're generally ignorant rednecks
oh sorry, I didn't know you were the genius
Al--
Funny!! Nuthin better than book lernin huh?!!
LOL @ import owners. They're mad because they're foreign cars are not immune to problems XD
Dude this isn't the 1950's any longer.
hey bruner,at least the money "goes to fatten the pockets of all the japs".and the money made by the greedy auto owners here in america goes to fatten the two pockets of one CEO.
tiredofsameoldthing still thinks union workers are paid $75/hour
are they paid more than the non-union workers at Toyota/Honda? yes
are they paid $75/hour?
keep drinking the kool-aid
and no I'm not a UAW member-I drive a Honda
I'm simply not silly enough to believe nonsense
Bruner is just talking smack. Also, Canada AND the US are part of North America. Also Mexico. If he's not joking, he's an ignoramous.
dude- you need to re-read what I said about North America and Canada.........yes, it is AMERICA, just what I said.........
But Bruner--
A car built in Canada mostly benefits the Canadian worker, the Canadian gov't and the CAW (union). How does that most directly help the plant guy in Wisconsin?
I want to hear bruner's enlightened comment on that.
Al---
'uuuh, Buy American Anyway!!!. Spend 30k to help a Canadian with free gov't socialist healthcare!!
Yeah, gov't socialist health care really is the monster that the famaceutical corporations have warned us about. But this conversation is about cars.
I know-- but it always pops up sooner or later.
to those that think this is a big deal get real..... the article says its possible to remove the keys without putting the car in park, while it can be looked at as a big deal dont forget the key doesnt pop out of the ignition on its own, you have to pull it out so unless you have a serious mental lapse and dont put the car in Park this isnt shouldnt be an issue, i mean how many people would be stupid enough to turn their car off while its stilll in drive????? Honda is doing this just to make the safest car in the world even safer. We've owned honda for 10 years now and not a single problem.... i doubt many people that own domestic products can say the same thing
I hear you LA_laker!!!
btw, Honda is NOT the safest car as per J.D. Powers - it is Volvo
That's right, another foreign auto maker.
OWNED by Ford
bruner--
Volvo is OWNED by Tata--an Indian Company.
And the safest cars are German. Volvo just markets it the best.
poor bruner
LA Laker,
Not to make an argument, but here is a little humor you can appreciate.
So you support a foreign car who knew.
All cars have something that breaks. An average car has about 14,000 parts. If cars didn't break there would be no need for service departments.
"BUY AMERICAN! If you want to drive a foreign piece of crap, then go to another country......this is AMERICA!"
You are stupid and ignorant, why do you think foreign cars are doing so well in the market, because no one wants to over pay for a car that sucks down gas like there is no tomorrow and are not that well made anyways. You are the type of american that thinks the US is the best at everything...I'm sorry to tell you, but half the stuff you do, you make into one big cluster@!$%#.
yo don't know me, so get off your soap box!
I think i missed the part where toyota owned up to their problems????
blaming customers, blaming suppliers, threats, internal documents, resignations, only allowing themselves to use black box scanners...
I don't believe I have read 1 thing where toyota has owned up to ANYTHING..
Honda isn't the safest car in the world
It may be the best car brand for the money but it isn't the safest
ok ill give ya that but it is ONE off the safest manufacturers along side 90% of German cars
Yeah, I agree to that. But not everybody has the money to buy the latest mercedez benz. Hondas are pretty good cars, specially for the money.
bruner - go off and wank your detroit stick.
Oh wait, sorry that was a double standard!!!! hahahahaha
AH - a detroit diesel dyke! Now it's all clear....
LOL!
finally,
You picked the wrong brands.
Get a service plan silly.
bruner, read comment 42 in response to #25.
