This may be good for KFC and their owner Pepsico, and thus Pepsico shareholders, but what will be the health-care costs down the road to the US? If anyone ever needed convincing that corporatations put profit ahead of being good corporate citizens, this heart attack meal is proof.
Despite the critics of such fare I finally got around to trying one of these the other day. I thought it was very good and I’ll be getting another in the next couple of weeks. To those who condemn such fare I say “if you don’t like it, don’t buy it, and don’t dictate to me what to, or what not to eat.”
That "sandwich" is right up there with deep-fried butter on the list of WTF?! foods. And, I'm betting that "customer demand" will decrease in direct proportion to an increase in deaths from heart disease.
Who says natural selection is a thing of the past? ;-)
I love the basic idea of this "sandwich", less carbohydrates by getting rid of the bread. And you know how the math goes on this one: More protein - Carbs = Weight loss.
They just need to bring the salt content down, way down.
Did KFC go to any ones home and drag them in to buy their products. If no one bought it they would have discontinued them back in April.I've seen the ads but haven't bought one. Maybe I will and maybe I wont its my choice as its yours. Dear Lord what is going to happen when eating water cress and carrots are found to cause a problem ? Just last month people were getting sick from Lettuce. Variety and moderation are the key .If we all started cutting salt to the levels the Government wants don't you imagine since we are all individuals some of us may have health issues. Salt in your diet controls more than your Blood Pressure. There are groups of people who do not eat any salt and they have issues with their nails and bones.
The idea that profit is bad is so ignorant its used by people who have no knowledge of commerce , trade or business. Without profit there are no jobs. By selling more sandwiches KFC makes more money for itself , its shareholders and gives us a product we like and enjoy. With its profits KFC is able to hire more people and the shareholders are able to spend or save their dividends. If they save then in banks, then the bank is able to give more loans and services to their customers. If shareholders spend their money then yours or my teenager working at the mall, the local movie theater or school teacher gets to keep their jobs for a while longer and if they ,make enough they could buy a house, car and more sandwiches. Maybe to your delight also the folks at the hospital will get a few patients. Its called the Cycle of Life, we live and we die.
Most of all you have a brain use its called CHOICES. If you and I are paying for our insurance its our business. The high cost of Insurance now is not people with Blood Pressure or Smokers. Its having to pay for the Illegals who frequent your Hospitals and emergency care facilities without paying a dime. (On Friday while at my Doctors office I saw an illegal teen going to the ER for an infected finger nail. It was 4:30 and there wasn't a pediatrician to tend to her she did not want to wait till 10am Sat morning or see my doctor as he isn't accepting new patients ) You and I will be paying paying her ER bill. When it becomes a Government run HC program you will have the same issues as Greece and Spain.
The problem with you so called no party affiliations people is you like to sit on that high horse and control everyone else. Well I am fed up with your greed and desire for control. When and what I eat as long as you aren't buying my food is not your business leave people to hell alone. If you choose do or not do something fine I respect your choices.. I just wonder how you are going to like it when the other side starts checking out goods and services you like and then starts controlling them. Lets remove all salt and watch you start keeling over from the bacterias that attack your bodies.
We all have to die at some point no matter how you or the government makes everything safe ( food restriction are wonderful but after such precautions one could die from choking on the healthy choice of a piece of banana ) YOU CANNOT CONTROL EVERYONE and EVERYTHING BECAUSE EVENTUALLY YOU AND YOUR PET PROJECTS WILL BE CONTROLLED ?But I forgot since you are so much smarter than everyone else and have no party affiliations it wont matter.
don't worry partypooper - the smoking, drugs and alcohol abuse will get most people way before the chicken. If you actually knew anything about health care you would already know that.
well said Aim - many so called independents are just hyper liberals who think they're too special to associate with the common socialist. They all have one thing in common - THEY want to run the world. The last thing they want is liberty, equality and justice. Funny you should mention the watercress - I have a friend who works in a hospital - she says you can always tell the vegetarians - they look sickly and pale and have translucent skin - so much for the BS
I haven't had the chance to try one of these yet, but they sound delicious.
I keep hearing people talk about how it should be illegal for fast food places to make such unhealthy food, because it will drive up health care costs and so on. How it's so irresponsible for companies to make this stuff. People are showing up in droves to buy these sandwiches though. The thing is, shouldn't I be able to buy it if I want? Even if I know it's potentially be bad for me? If not, then we'd better hurry up and outlaw cigarettes, alcohol, tvs and the computer screen you're looking at (bad for your eyes).

WTF?
Seriously, get a life. Who turns a discussion on the KFC burger into a political debate. Jesus, insane much.

Nothing has been outlawed. Looks like a typ. slippery slope statement.
Do whatever you want...just don't whine to anyone about your diabetes. And we should be able to dump you from the healthcare pool since you are negatively impacting the rest of us who are healthy.
This is why fast food companies should not be allowed to make and sell such unhealthy products... THEY WORK FOR THE INSURANCE COMPANIES!!! Their shareholders ARE the health insurance companies. Insurance companies invest in fast food companies so the American people will buy the crap that will eventually kill them so the insurance companies can MAKE BANK on your bad decisions. Same thing happens in the tobacco industry. Its all a sham people. You think you make your own decisions but its all about making money and Corporate America is very good at marketing to people cause we are all stupid enough to buy into it. This is corruption at its peak... and should be illegal.
I dont know about you guys, but everytime i see that add, my stomach gets upset and i feel like throwing up! Bluekilgoretrout you are totally right...just open up a tub of lard, salt and oil and dig in!
I was commenting to Aimhigh on Aimhigh's comment. While you're busy mouthing off you apparently didn't notice the first post about this subject was a political one. And in conclusion, I noticed that your next post was a decidedly political comment - add hypocrite to your list of achievements nicey

and that's true, but it's been talked about. I'm not saying it'll lead to all that other stuff, but how is it any less wrong? And how can you just assume that since I'd be willing to eat this I must be some 300 pound slob with diabetes? I say eat healthy and get some exercise when you get the chance, but it won't kill you to have a burger once in a while. If the average person could just learn some moderation they'd be in a lot better shape.

If it's only a possibility (which is like a snowball chance in hell) then why mention it as an argument?
Sorry, I used "you" in a general context. I mean if the public wishes to indulge in this lifestyle, they have to face the consequences without biatching about it. Not only that, but they negatively impact the risk pool we all participate in.
My insurance premiums pay for peoples coverage who use it to treat things they get from irresponsible behavior.

The comment was about corporations and healthcare. That does not make it political, you are making it so.
Likewise my comment was on the health insurance pool, which is a corporate matter. Again, you're making it into a political argument. Specifically you want to make it into a blue vs. red argument more colloquially known as wasting everyones time.
Hey, why don't we start putting cyanide in these things?
It will just expedite the deaths of all the dumb, fat #$%^ who eat this stuff to begin with. Obesity/diabetes costs this country billions upon billions. Let's trim the fat here people.
P.S. - And no, this is not an example of "moderation". If you eat this, you truly hate yourself and could care less about your health.
I'm sure their mad scientists are already at work in some dark laboratory seeking to push even further the boundaries of what horrors human beings are willing to consume.
If you want to eat it, eat it. If you don't want to eat it, don't. When you go to KFC, your not looking for a "healthy" meal. You want something that tastes good.
If it kills half the planet, it is not the fault of KFC> It is the fault of the eater.
..but let's speed this process up and kill them off, instead of paying for years of diabetic insulin, electric wheelchairs, gastric bypass surgery, and cancer drugs for their fat asses
Reading these comments is very comical especially how people turn it into a political, meat vs. vegetarian, health care, etc. discussion. All the author wanted to present was the sandwich was a success and they are keeping it around until further notice.
Please people this is America! No matter how hard one side or the other tries to tell you what is right and wrong for you be thankful this country was built to allow us freedom to do as you please within the letter of the law. Stop trying to force your ideologies on everyone.
With this being said I do love two items resulting from the story:
1. KFC is brilliant at marketing to my point above by knowing people will line-up and order this sandwich no matter how healthy or unhealthy it is because it is their choice to do so and because of this they are making a ton of money. They anticipate selling 10M by the end of this month and at $5 a sandwich this will net a pretty penny. You have to respect a company who knows how to make money in an economic downturn.
2. The mindset of the person standing in line to order one of these thinking they are getting over on KFC because of all of the meat. I will paraphrase "Sheeeeeeeeet, two pieces of chicken, bacon and cheese with no bun for only $5, you know I am Doubling Down."
Before you all start whining about how unhealthy this thing is compare it to everything else thats on their menu.
I normally get a 2-piece meal (breast and leg) with mashed potatoes w/ gravy, baked beans , and a buscuit. That is 2790 mg sodium and most people don't even consider the nutritional value when eating it. I had no idea until I just looked it up. Imagine if someone goes to the lunch buffet and eats more than that.
Check it out yourself. This is why the nutritional info needs to be prominantly displayed.
TraceyG darling I dont even eat KFC, so there is no comparison for me- i agree with those who say if you dont want to get fat, dont eat this @!$%# at all!Its your health...
Bartman - you're an idiot. Your teeth were not designed to eat meat...take a look at lions and tigers. They have teeth designed to eat meat...as well as digestive tracts designed for meat consumption.
Robin - if you knew anything about health care you would know most visitors to the ER are there because of smoking, drugs or alcohol abuse - if you stay away from those things I am sure you will survive a few chicken sandwiches.
Speaking of idiots, our teeth are prototypical for eating a broad diet including meat, Sherri. Just in case, I will note that you should not use a match to check if there's any gas in the tank.
Not only are our teeth designed for eating a diet of both meat and vegetables, our bodies don't get the nutrition they need if we don't eat some meat. Or take supplements in place of eating meat. Its just a sad truth about our world, if you're alive then you're also killing things.
Reminds me of an animal rights activist that said that our intestinal length isn't as long as a carnivore's, therefore, we're herbivores. It was HILARIOUS when I pointed out that our intestinal length is about the same as a bear (omnivorous). Then again, hard to have an intellectual conversation when someone states that bears don't have molars (as in the teeh) and are strictly carnivores.
Not true, John. You're thinking of vegans. Vegetarians who eat eggs or dairy get the B12 their bodies need from those animal products. Vegans typically supplement their diet with B12. Sometimes vegetarians and vegans are low on iron, but that's readily available in supplements, as well. Other than that, the only thing they're missing from not eating meat is the saturated fat and cholesterol. Vegans and vegetarians typically require more protein every day to ensure they have all of the amino acids available for their bodies to use.
I ate one Monday. It sure was good. Of course I guess I am fat now and it must be KFC's fault because I am not responsible for anything I do. Everyone says this is bad for health care costs. DUMB. People's lack of willpower is the culprit not the restaurant that offers it. JUST SAY NO!!!!!
Idiots may be able to make asinine comments and statements about how KFC is the culprit in making America fat, but who's the culprit in making those idiots stupid?
Will power is what makes people fat (or lack of it). As recently as 20 years ago, most American families willfully sat down together and ate a nice home cooked meal. As I remember them (and still try to do once in a while), there was a modest scoop of vegetable, a modest serving of the main meat, a modest scoop of starch food, and a bread. A well balanced meal with probably 500 cals at most. Americans are just too damn lazy now to cook for themselves, and they always cop out at how much easier and cheaper it is to buy fast food.
Kelly here is a novel concept. Eat right exercise and die anyway, and have the more in health care costs because you lived longer and have the same amount in health care costs as someone who dies younger because end of life care is the most expensive care not any other category.
Willnilly you cant tax people into making them have good behavior. Look at the people who still smoke and drink. I think they should tax stupid people who come up with ideas like that.
How is taxing fast food going to help? It's already subsidized by our goverment, thereby making it cheaper to buy junk food. Instead of raising taxes, just remove the subsidies for junk food. Without subsidies: Less government spending, veggies and other produce will be more cost effective, it's a win-win for almost everybody.
Willnilly you cant tax people into making them have good behavior. Look at the people who still smoke and drink.
Freedom writer, I have to disagree with that. A lot of people gave up smoking because it was too costly. Since raising the price of ciggarettes the number of smokers in the US had dropped quite a bit. When things are cheeper people will buy more of it. It doesnt take a genius to figure that out. I myself gave up buying cigarettes many years ago, I still bum a cigarette now and then from a kind soul...but thats not the same thing as buying and smoking a pack a day.
I wonder if the very same people who are condemming KFC and the people who eat fast food have done a study to see just how impossible it is for a family of four that are poor--they are out there and steadily getting more numerous--can eat healthy on food stamps. It is soooo expensive to buy fresh fruit and veggies. It is cheaper for hamburg and Kraft dinners--fat and salts!!! yet a bag of apples is damn near $5.00. Yep--viscious circle that I am sure ( in my paronoid mind) has a corporate backing making sure that noone does that study!!!
Cugnus, you make alot of sence. I believe many of the problems famlies have today stems from not having meals together, always wanting something fast. People don't sit around a table enough to see how everyone is and talk of what is going on and important at that moment. Food is fact of living and how one eats along with what they eat can play a large part of ones life.
If people don't want to eat it, don't buy it and quite whinning about people that do. If you are too stupid to know that eating this or any other fast food 3 times a day is not healthy, then that is your own dumb fault and not KFC. This country is full of people today, with no common sense, that have to be told 24/7 what to do. If idiot's today didn't have someone hovering over them, making excuses for their own bad decisions, telling them it's not their fault, they would be lost. KFC is just the darling of the food police and people that like to constantly whine about things.
This is nothing more than a chicken sandwich with cheese without the bun. Open up a bacon cheeseburger and you will see the same thing except chicken. lol
BTW:
I have had 4 of these since they started this promotion. Took one home and put it between a bun with mayo and mustard.
Guess what? I have not gained one pound or been rushed to the hospital yet. lol
I will admit that I have been tempted to get one of these, but I settled for popcorn chicken which probably has more calories and fat than the Double Down! Go figure!
If you are a woman...you are fat... at 5'7 your weight should be 125 at the most...more weight to come...keep eating...I'm from Israel...you guys eat too much...
Like most of America (7 out of 10 is about right)...You have to step outside of America to see how obese you guys are...I am not trying to be mean but this one reason your healthcare costs so much...You have to stop eating so much...
Ha! I live in Houston, Texas 5th chubbiest city in the nation and i am from the #1 city on that list, i have had one it was delish but i know that you are not supposed to eat these everyday. Stupid is stupid no matter where you are from if people cant figure out from the first 1 million fatties who got there from poor diets then maybe they deserve to be in such bad health. We need to put health classes back into schools and teach our children the benifits of getting away form the ipod,PS3,Xbox, ect and go outside and throw a football or baseball. It worked for the kids in my small poor urban surroundings, whats other peoples excuse? Americans need to learn to use things in moderation, even moderation.
Mike - you assuming moron. I am a 52 year old man. Just because my name is Kelly you assume I am a woman? What if my name was Terry?
Oh, and not all Americans are fat only the ones without willpower. Some people make assumptions about Jews. But I don't. Are you Jewish since you are from Israel? Notice I asked and didn't assume.
actually, you are the moron..if you read my post...i said "If you are a woman"....can't you read or are you another tea party redneck who is so popular in America these days...
Kelly - Love it! Good reply - you know what they say about making assumptions. lol.
And Mike FYI - 125 lbs for a 5'7" woman is not the highest she should weigh. According to the BMI she can weigh as much as 155 lbs and still be in her normal weight range.
Hey good point. But since I am not a woman I am not even close to fat. I readily admit to being a redneck but I owe no affiliation to any political party. Not one party has all the right answers in my opinion, Dems REPs and Tea Partiers all have some things right. I bet even you are right once in a while. I prefer to do my own thinking. I intentionally watch what I eat so that on occaision I can indulge in something like this so that I don't deprive myself and then binge and can't quit before I am 300 lbs. That would be 136 kg to you.
I'm 5'5" and weigh 205 pounds with a 31" waist, no fat on me at all. I eat what I want and burn it off being active. If my clothes start getting a little too tight, I reduce the amount of food I eat or take an extra lap or two. I've been that weight since I got my honorable discharge from the military in 1973, and yes, I can still fit into my uniforms easily. Every chart says I am overweight, but I am not fat, and I am not a muscle builder. I have noticed that if I eat too much of fast food my clothes will begin to start feeling tight, so I back off and eat less. What is so hard about doing that? I WILL eat what ever I want and I do like the new KFC bunless sandwich, but one or two a month is it.
Lady M...Did you read the post???I didn't make any assumptions...caveat-"If you are a woman?"...but caveat might be too big of a word for the simple minded...
The only simple minded one here is YOU. You made an assumption - made yourself look like an a$$ and now you are trying to back track. If you read my post you would see that I am talking about women.
Just admit you were wrong and do some research next time before you stick your keyboard in your mouth.
Mike, height and weight alone is no indication of what health problems await someone. There's the issue of fat content, genes, pre-existing health conditions, etc. You're making assumptions yet again....
What is your height and weight so i can tell you how bad your health is? You don't share yours, yet you can criticize everyone else's.
I would have to agree with Mike to a degree. About 7 out of 10 people in the USA are obese. On my once a week junk food eating day, I look forward to trying this high salt, high calorie, heart attack inducing chicken-wich. And by the way since we are talking about weight and such, I'm 5'7" weigh 115 and a bmi of 19. I guess I can get junkie for one day a week.
I love how when some one doesn't agree with some people they assume they are stupid or simple minded. He will never admit he was wrong like I did when he pointed out he said "If you are a woman". An intelligent person will admit when wrong. He is the one with a heart attack waiting to happen because he is so stressed about what we AMericans are doing. Because oyu know those people from Israel are perfect. If oyu don't believe me ask the Palestinians and they will tell you. (Mike, just a joke before you get all fired up about that).
Mike must be a 300+ pound fatty trying to make himself feel better by attacking anyone. I am not at risk for a heart attack, both parents and all four grandparents still alive, and I am 55. I eat what I want and burn it off running, swimming and sex. So, before you try to sound like someone who is intelligent, it might be better if you used better judgement in choosing your fights. Not all americans are fat, we just have the resources to become fat, not like most other countries where eating anything that tastes good is a rare event.
Capital of fat nation here…Oklahoma…judging by the looks of most people around here you’d see why. Not only do we rank at the bottom of the cesspool for obesity…we’ve got the fast food chains to back it up too. I’m sure over half those monstrosities were consumed right here in fat ass redneck vil. It’s pretty sad…you don’t really have the choice of good locally owned businesses that offer healthy fresh food. They are so few and far between big asses and festering neon signs…it’s no wonder we’ve got this problem.
You people are sick! Mike just made a comment but he told the truth and you guys come off loke he is some kind of idiot. Cant handle the truth! AMERICA IS OBESE! WE EAT TOO MUCH!!! Any foriegner that comes here and eats in a restaurant is in disbelief by the portions served! One plate can feed two people.
Americans cant even reconize FAT anymore cause its politically incorrect! Thats why america is still fat and getting fatter, cant handle the truth!
Tiredofthepress - I am not fat is my point. Can you understand that is the truth? Stereotyping is not fair regardless of whether it is blacks, Jews, or fat Americans. Not ALL Americans are fat. Just the ones without willpower and they want to blame some one else like KFC. I bet you're fat though. Let me eat what I want to eat and you eat what you want to. I promise I will never try to tell you what to eat if I don't agree with you.
My father is a retired physician. People always asked him what his hobby was. His response was "Attending the funerls of my athletic friends". In other words just like Forrestsa said, healthy people die every day. By the way my father is now 88 and has never restricted his diet.
I'm a big eater, and this looked awesome the first time I saw the commercial for it. I tried it out, and it's really too much dry chicken to be very good. I really don't taste much of the sauce, cheese or bacon, but rather, it's an inundation of dry chicken. Perhaps if KFC made the chicken parts thinner, juicier, and with a little spice, then add a little more of the other parts, then it'd be a good sandwich. Otherwise, I don't plan on buying another one.
I think KFC is just milking the gawk factor of this product until everyone has tried one and decided they don't like it. Sometimes word of mouth isn't enough, and millions want to figure this out for themselves.
that is 540 BEFORE the large fries and 32oz soda. No wonder were such fat asses. God bless America. Total salt intake with fries is probably close to 2000 mg....bring on the heart attack. A male is supposed to eat about 200 calories a day if they are active.
Wait until you see the follow up. They add a deep fried snickers inside, dip it in batter and serve it with with draw butter. They will pair it with pork rinds an a shake made from Gelato and the leftover fryoil.
So if this is the only meal I eat all day, am I ok otherwise?
I just had to read the comments on this. I knew there would be the people blaming KFC for even selling something such as this. Well guess what, folks? It's called a CHOICE! You have the right to eat it if you want and not to eat it if you don't want!! Quit blaming KFC for even offering it and make the choice yourself.
To those who hate being told what NOT to eat, go ahead, stuff another one of these heart-stoppers in your mouth, and savor the beastly affects of cardiovascular disease, obesity, and diabetes. Eat your heart out! Literally!
There is no SHOULD HAVE, they do, and then they are like "why did I get diagnosed with this & that... oh yeah I eat like sh!t and don't move enough"... gluttons.
When we are given too much freedom...look what happens to us!! We become arrogant, obese people. We are looked down upon by other countries because we think we are better than everyone else. I come from a family of 1st generation americans. I am no longer proud! We are disgusting! You are paying these companies while they kill you.
Excuse me but don't let the door hit you on the way out.If you are not proud of this country because of all the riches and disgusted by its people then leave. I am sure many of the people in America are probably just as repulsed by you. . I don't imagine anyone held your parents down and hog tied them to come to America. Maybe you should sue them before you return to their origins.
I just never understand you ungrateful folks ,you leave your piece of crap country and after a few years when you have gotten from this country you want to curse it. All while you are hanging on for dear life to your share of the American pie. Don't imagine there is any one wanting to get into the hole of a country you came from. Bet there was so much freedom in your country that your parents left.
It's ungrateful arrogant pieces of twig people like you that makes me wish Americans would close their borders to all. If You feel so badly about America why are you still here?????
It has nothing to do with freedom it has to do with lack of restraint, it has to do with responsibility. People want the right to eat, drink, smoke an whatever else to their hearts content, then sue everyone within arme length when they destroy themselves. The prolem is peolple blanme everyone else for their own actions. "Oh I didn't know smoking was bad for me", "give me money." "You mean eating 15 Big Macs a week isn't good?" "Give me money." "Buying a half-million dollar home when I only ake $40K a year?" "How was I to know I couldn't afford that?"
Hey, eat, drink, smoke and buy to your hearts content, but don't blame the rest of us for your misfortunes!
I read the articale twice, i dont recall seeing the words liberal or conservative in it. Why must it always be politics with some of you people. Here let me hold a mirror up for you, now repeat your last sentence.
the point is that America is way overweight and it is not because of mom's homemade dinner, but fast food and soda. I'm not saying that people are not to blame as they have the choice. But, when you are bombarded with ads for fast food and your hungry, well you go and eat there. The companies should have some culpability in making America fat. When you serve a burger that is 1500 calories before the drink and fries, that is a problem. They deserve about 25% of the blame with the other 75% going to the people that eat that crap all the time and don't exercise! As an x smoker, I had to pay very high taxes on cigs so that that money could go to health care. Overweight people have health problems 75% more than smokers as there are so many fat people....no one seems to mind smokers paying more, but talk about a fat tax on this crap food and look out.
Unfortunately as a group you people were lax in defending your rights. You allowed yourselves to be punished. Even worst these states collected the Cigarette taxes and never used them in their intended purposes. A larger percentage of what was collected was put into the general funds. Many States sold their settlements at a discount for lump sum payments to offset budget deficits and then the next year when they found themselves short they increased cigarette taxes again.
Its not that people don't mind smokers having to pay more but if you never stood up for yourselves and mounted an rebutal to the people that were pointing the finger at you then can you blame the public for not believing it mattered to you? I am upset about the cigarette campaign as it has had a level of success and that is why that model is again being used for food and other services.
Look in NY we are paying a 9/11emergency fee on every Cell Phones. After 9/11 there was a big deal made about locating citizens via their cells or if there was an accident and you did not know where you were then you could be located. This service and its fee was to fund and upgrade a directory of sorts it was also assumed that up front it would be expensive and taper off as the start up was going to be costly. It has been a few years now and as you can guess no decreases as yet. When questioned by the public who have tried to use this emergency service according to one Sheriffs in the upstate NY area he said that more than $200 million is collected annually and only 9% is used to fund this program the rest goes to the general fund.
Now I fear that these same groups will drum up the same arguments about food and anything they want to control and the same useful idiots will jump onto the taxation band waggon. I am hoping that the Fat People and the general population fat or not will stop the Fat tax and hold the line because if not then when most of us start eating healthy the same arguments will again be used to tax that. Just think some pointy head elite will say we are living longer and that is stressing the planet therefore we have to tax the healthy foods or anyone who lives too long. They taxed Cigaretts even though if Smokers were so unhealthy would die earlier. Now that the amount of Smokers are on the decline they have to look to other areas for funding.
I caution everyone to remember history the big scare was used with cigaretts and can and will be used with other things. Also note taxes are levied on goods and services we want and need or buy in abundance...not on things people don't want.
"But, when you are bombarded with ads for fast food and your hungry, well you go and eat there."
No, you don't if you don't want to. I grew up surrounded by tobacco ads, did I try it? No. I have known about that sandwich for over a year and I want to try it. Haven't tried it yet. The ads are there, have been there and there is an interest. . .but I haven't tried it yet.
If people are fat, it's by their own choices. I know someone who gained weight on a vegan diet. Why? Her choices made her fat, even though she was healthy.
Here's an example: When Supersize Me came out, we knew what happened. What we didn't hear was a woman who defended McDonald's by stating that she ate there 3 times a day, every day, and she lost weight and was healthy. How is that possible at a fast food place? 1. She exercised. 2. Her orders were all small: small fries, small drink. 3. She ate just plain hamburgers or their salad, etc.
But, when you are bombarded with ads for fast food and your hungry, well you go and eat there. The companies should have some culpability in making America fat.
Nice personal responsibility there! Nope, sorry, fast food restaurants should have NO culpability! It's a choice! And one you make! They advertise just like everything else. I have a choice of what I do and don't buy! I won't hold a company liable for my choices!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another mindless Lemming. If they advertise you go there. What a bunch of crap. Hey, I believe if acompany in untruthful abouttheir products, then they have some culpability, but unless you have the mental capacity of a 12 year old you need to be responsible for your own actions.
Wow, after seeing another long winded post I'm seeing a trend here LOL. Hooray, let's turn every post into a socioeconomic and/or political debate!! I'm teh smart! Wow.
OK, maybe that's not nice, and so, you guys and gals that like the sandwich aren't dumb. Just irresponsible with the things you eat.
If they really want sales to soar, they should dip it in chocolate then deep fry that! This story just proves this whole 'epidemic' of obesity is occurring that because people are foolish.
People that were overweight forever blamed their metabolisms, glands, thyroids. Blame your idiotic choices for "food" that you make.
The part that really burns me up is the cost of my health care which has soared due to the smoking, obese morons out there who live lives of complete overindulgence. To you sirs and madams, you suck.
Exactly, when it comes to having a proper diet, the majority of americans are the dumbest in the world. There's a reason why the obesity rate is super high in this country, especially in the southeast compared to other industrialized nations. The fattier something is, the more americans want to stuff it down their throats. Add to that, most americans abhorr any form of exercise and don't want to do anything else but watch tv all day
You make the statement that what "burns me up is the cost of my health care which has soared due to smoking, obese morons out there who live lives of complete overindulgence".... That statement has very little validity because you cannot have it both ways Smokers and fat people die early then how come they cost you so much? Smokers pay a lot in taxes supposidly it was calculated to offset their cost to the states. Here is why IMO ypou are wrong and need to research exactly why your HC costs are increasing.
1) you assume that everyone who is Fat/overweight is unhealthy and in need of constant Health Care
2) you assume that everyone who is Thin is healthy and will not need health care.
3)you assume that smokers are living so long that they are draining and using more HC than all others.
4) you make no allowance for genetic, environmental and working conditions that could possibly lead to needing HC
5) Not allowing or understanding the biggest HC drain on the system is not the occasional person who may need some extreme medical intervention but the people who due to their immigration status have no jobs or insurance and shows up at your Emergency Rooms and After Hours care facilities for anything from a gunshot ,infected finger, childbirth, sprained ankle, needing a transplant or stage 3 Cancer. Knowing that care cannot be refused ,have no money or intentions to pay a dime.
I ask you to Think what do each of these services cost? How many secretaries , nurses ,doctors , specialists and technicians are involved when they show up for care? Should the care providers knowing that their patients have no money or don't want to pay, not get paid after giving treatment? How much can a Doctor/ hospital absorb if 20-70% of the community it serves do not pay? Doctors and Hospitals have contractual (Union) agreements that they have to live by therefore even though many are non profits they have to cover salaries goods and services.
That $20 Tylenol, the $650 a night half room and the as in NY 15% of your bill tax to pay for Kids without HC is because you and I may be the only ones who walk into the hospital on that day who have the means to pay therefore we have to be squeezed.
Maybe because we are afraid of being seen as less caring about others or worst being branded as Racist its nice and easy to blame everyone and everything else Fat people, Smokers,KFC ,Corporate America, complete overindulgence lack of responsibility all justified . However if all these issues were corrected tomorrow we would still have a problem because we refuse to address the largest elephant in the room or to accept what or who is really the most burdensome cost to the increases in Health Care.
I stand by my statements and the only assumptions made were ironically by yourself. Your numbered items were what? Assumptions. Your assumptions. I would only assume that you've missed the point entirely in order to go off topic by picking apart one sentence I wrote which is a truthful one regarding health care costs being affected by people who are unhealthy or more precisely engage in unhealthy behaviors. You should check the data regarding the financial burden placed on everyone. Smoking is unhealthy this is a fact. Obesity is unhealthy, another fact. Diabetes and heart disease are chronic diseases that are linked directly to obesity and smoking. Prevention is key. Instead of turning it into a thinly veiled social critique perhaps we could have just spoke about the sandwich.
Didn't Kid Rock write a song about this, "I'M........AN........ American Fatass!"? Seriously though, I'm getting @!$%#ing tired of people trying to sign into law what Americans can and can't eat. And it's because the weak-willed tubs of lard are complaining about how fast food restaraunts have made them fat. McDonalds didn't make you fat. Your lack of discipline did. And if I want a double-down sandwich, or a quad stacker sandwich, or a big mac, or a friggin 2-pound cheeseburger, I shouldn't have to worry about whether it's going to be legal in the next couple of years because a few @!$%#s complained.
You americans are disgusting. NO wonder we are such an obese country. More chickens , with more hormones and horrible living conditions, so you can have the pleasure of feeding yourselves.
Nessa, I'm sure your chickens don't have it so well where you live either. You must live in the only country that doesn't kill chickens for consumption....
I'm really tired of this sandwich getting so much crap. IT'S A RELATIVELY HEALTHY SANDWICH!! It's high in protien and low in carbs. Yes, it does have quite a bit of fat, but that fat can help keep you feeling fuller for longer. Also, yes it has a lot of sodium, but as long as you have an adiquate water intake, you will be fine! Sodium only leads to high blood pressure in those that have a genetic predisposition to it, and the majority of Americans are unaffected. Also I like the price of it. Hopefully it's high enough to discourage the idiots who want to orders the sides. Those are the things that really damage your waist lines!
If it's high in fat and sodium, how is this a healthy sandwich? I'm sure all the idiots that eat this aren't ordering water to go with it. Protein is probably the only thing it has, which can be obtained eating other things without the fat content.
It has nearly a days worth of salt, and is higher in salt fat and calaries than a big mac. Any benifits it MAY have are negated by that. It will kill you before it helps you. When you see your waistline expand and have a few heart attacks, you'll realize it's not so healthy.
Wow. You really need an education, David. Everything you've just said is completely wrong. How is a high protein meal healthy? You body can only break down so much in one sitting and the rest is a waste. Yes, "healthy" fat like that in avocado can make you full longer but we are not talking about healthy fat here in this sandwhich. And I am willing to bet that you couldn't drink enough water to dilute the salt you just consumed in a matter of minutes. Finally, You don't have to have a genetic disposition to have high blood pressure. It scares me that there are people like you who believe that blood pressure isn't a problem and that "the majority of Americans are unaffected". Please visit a doctor and get your facts straight.
Being a personal trainer doesn't make you a health expert. Sorry but I have many friends who have been personal trainers and they themselves admit that it doesn't take much education to do so.
Realist: I am 5'2" and weigh 108. I work out at least 5 days a week and two of those is with a person trainer. With that said, it is well known that eating too much of anything is bad including protein. Yes, if you workout and stregnth train you can handle it. That was the small point I was making with regards to the idea that this sandwhich is high in protein therefore it is somewhat healthy. The bigger issue is that based on a 2000 calorie/day diet, this sandwhich contains half of the fat you need per day and has almost an entire days sodium. Not to mention the fat it contains is saturated. Sorry you think I have no common sense.
What does she have to do with KFC? Just look around at all the lards, and you'll see that the government has no plans on pushing companies to serve healthy food.
People eat what they want. Why is it the Governments responsibility? If parents taught their kids how to eat and didnt cave in everytime the kid screamed for a happy meal, then they would be less likely to eat this junk when they grow up.
It's free choice, some people just like to eat crap.
Really? How can americans eat this fatty junk?? It seems like the fattier something is, the more americans want to gobble it down. I just hope I don't have to pay for their healthcare when they get diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, heart disease or a stroke
another health care idiot - first of all you definitely are going to pay for everyone's health care - and don't worry - the drugs, alcohol and tobacco will get them WAY before the chicken
Realist, not to mention those that end up in the ER include a good number of people who either overdose or miss their medication. You would not believe how many people come in with problems that they caused to themselves because of this.
My stepfather is athletic, careful about what he eats, doesn't eat red meat or anything fried or junk food, and exercises.
My mother is overweight (she has a thyroid condition that also doesn't help), eats what she wants, used to smoke, and doesn't exercise much. She is also older than my stepfather
Which one is healthier? Answer: My mother. My stepfather has high cholestorol, blood pressure, and constantly complains about pain after he eats. When I looked at just the prescription pills alone and the vitamins alone, my stepfather was taking more pills and more vitamins than my mother.
What I was stating is that it isn't just diet that can affect someone's healthy. Everyone is crying over this sandwich stating that people are going to become fatter. Guess what? They were fat BEFORE this sandwich came out.
Chances are, they will continue to be fat even if all they ate was healthy foods. Why? If they are not doing any exercises to burn the calories off, they are going to gain weight. I know one guy who eats salads, fruit, and rarely eats junk food. Even his portions are small. He's fat. Why? No exercise!
Then you have people who do exercise and eat right, but are still unhealthy. My stepfather is one of them.
This is like eating heart disease, it should be banned. It's worse than a big mac. Sales will go down after a few heart attacks wake people up. Is your life worth a sandwich?
you don't actually believe this do you - how will they know which heart attacks are caused by this sandwich. BTW Mr Fixit - do you smoke drink or use drugs? They will kill you way before this sandwich.
Remember Jimm Fixx? Famous jogger and healthnut, who was giving an interview after a jog and had a heart attack and dropped dead. He died well before this sandwich came around.
I didn't realize smoking = eating. Last time I checked, years of not taking care of yourself: smoking, eating junk food, not exercising, etc., just about all the time, may kill you.
Eating a single chicken sandwich isn't going to do jack to you if you exercise, eat healthy, etc. most of the time.
Woow um ok. No one said smoking=eating but that's what contributed to his death. YOU"RE the one who used him as an example so no need for the smartass response. My point was if you're going to tell a story tell the whole story. He didn't just "drop dead" from being oh so healthy. Fat ass nasty sh*t was in is system.
Also it's not just a "single" sandwich. If KFC and McDonalds were relying on people to just come for a "single" sandwich we wouldn't have such morbidly obese people in America. None the less it's a choice.
That's where I got the smoking=eating from. Because it isn't just the eating that caused it. It was more than one thing.
As you said, it is a choice. If I want to eat 2 of those sandwiches in a week, that doesn't mean I am going to die from them. It's the combination of things that would contribute to it.
My brother eats a LOT of food. But he isn't fat. You wouldn't be able to tell that he eats junk food because of the way he looks. He exercises.
However, even healthy people die. It just happens. The problem is, people think that if something is healthy, everyone will live. This isn't entirely true as everyone's body is different. What is healthy to you may kill the person next to you.
If KFC and McDonalds were relying on people to just come for a "single" sandwich we wouldn't have such morbidly obese people in America.
They are selling a product in demand. They sell a single sandwich. It is the people that are buying it. They have no control over a customer if they order 5 of those things at one time. That's the customer's choice.
You should take my brother some time: prepare to spend of $50.00 for food for him to eat. He's not fat, nor obese; he's muscular.
For someone to be morbidly obese, it's not just food. I live with an elderly couple. The husband eats salad, fruit, etc.; healthy food. He doesn't touch the junk food. He's fat and still gaining weight. Why? He doesn't get exercise. So, it's not just the food.
I'm a 32 year-old Man, 5'11, athletic build, 170 lbs, I run about 20 miles or so a week and I like this sandwich. I notice they concern themselves in this article with the fat and sodium content, how about carbs? I watch my carbs, hence why I eat the grilled version of this about once a week.
I even cooked dinner for the family last week, and made a meal inspired by this sandwich, with just one breast seasoned with grille mates chicken dry rub, pepper jack cheese, smokehouse bacon and some grocery store brand spicy ranch salad dressing. ...it turned out pretty good!
Be aware however that regardless of athletic activity or physical shape, diets high in saturated fats increases the risk of heart and coronary artery disease, especially for individuals that are predisposed to these conditions. As a matterof fact, a lot of high intensity athletes eat more carbs and less fat. Carbs can be turned into sugars quickly and can be burned. If you don't burn then they turn to lipids and get stored. Lipids, or Fats are much harder to convert to energy.
Health is the new politically-correct religion, complete with zealots and all the hatred they bring to any cause. There's even the same "if you don't believe what I believe, you will be punished" mantra. Here's an idea: eat what you want and mind your own business.
Ibikfor, You must be a fat slob then. Unfortunatly fattie, your lifestyle and your food intake was made my business by our beloved President. Your fat self costs me money, and when it does, that makes your fat butt my business. Got it?, or is it to tough for you?
"Here's an idea:", go on a diet soon, so you don't have to look in the mirror to see it. You'll feel a whole lot better in addition. LOL
JCB, thanks for proving my point. Are you still in middle school when the worst thing you can call someone is fat? Grow up. And no, I've never had a weight problem - I still run cross country. Nice try, though.
Hmmm, Jane, should heart attack victims be weighed before CPR is administered? I've known a few runners with heart problems that pacemakers were able to fix.
The real answer is “all things in moderation”.
That "sandwich" is right up there with deep-fried butter on the list of WTF?! foods. And, I'm betting that "customer demand" will decrease in direct proportion to an increase in deaths from heart disease.
Who says natural selection is a thing of the past? ;-)
Demand will drop off once the gimmick has run its course. The sandwich itself isnt very good despite all of the fat and salt in it.
Yeah but just looking at that thing is enough to give me chest pains...:-(
A Big Mac is better for you than this? Yikes!
Sales will drop as soon as those purchasing it start to.
Sales will only drop down for this once they think up an even fattier sandwich.
I love the basic idea of this "sandwich", less carbohydrates by getting rid of the bread. And you know how the math goes on this one: More protein - Carbs = Weight loss.
They just need to bring the salt content down, way down.
From what I understand, this sandwich isn't anywhere close to moderation.
I simply eat salted lard with an ice cream scoop.
Much cheaper. Same effect.
No Party Affiliations
Funny you should mention the watercress - I have a friend who works in a hospital - she says you can always tell the vegetarians - they look sickly and pale and have translucent skin - so much for the BS
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm........I can hear the fat rolls jossling.
Our celebration of obesity is hitting its Zenneth.
And we should be able to dump you from the healthcare pool since you are negatively impacting the rest of us who are healthy.
http://abcnews.go.com/Health/w_DietAndFitness/health-insurance-companies-invest-billions-fast-food-stock/story?id=10392603
You say
and that's true, but it's been talked about.
Wow, 32 grams of fat packed in KFC's Double Down. One can also expect to double the pant size too. Bon appetit!
If you want to eat it, eat it. If you don't want to eat it, don't. When you go to KFC, your not looking for a "healthy" meal. You want something that tastes good.
If it kills half the planet, it is not the fault of KFC> It is the fault of the eater.
I agree 100% Tired of Silly
..but let's speed this process up and kill them off, instead of paying for years of diabetic insulin, electric wheelchairs, gastric bypass surgery, and cancer drugs for their fat asses
Yum Brands, smart guy.
This is why the nutritional info needs to be prominantly displayed.
http://www.kfc.com/nutrition/pdf/kfc_nutrition.pdf
TraceyG darling I dont even eat KFC, so there is no comparison for me- i agree with those who say if you dont want to get fat, dont eat this @!$%# at all!Its your health...
Kentucky Fried Cruelty! Never a good thing!
Yes, just the poor chickens keel over from old age. And darn that God for giving us teeth deigned to tear meat!
Oops. Meant to post a reply above, not here. Deleting the text from this post, since I can't just delete the post, itself.
luvlayne,
I agree 100%. I even avoid their commercials. That "sandwich" makes me feel like a trip to the ER, just hearing about it.
Bartman - you're an idiot. Your teeth were not designed to eat meat...take a look at lions and tigers. They have teeth designed to eat meat...as well as digestive tracts designed for meat consumption.
Enjoy that heart attack!
typical..if someone doesnt agree with you, start name calling. Real nice Sherri!
I love animals: They're delicious.
Robin - if you knew anything about health care you would know most visitors to the ER are there because of smoking, drugs or alcohol abuse - if you stay away from those things I am sure you will survive a few chicken sandwiches.
Dog is good but abit stringy. Cat not so great. Monkey is good if cooked over a low fire. And horsemeat, what can you say.Hmmmmmmmmmm!
Yeah, I mean, those only cost 200k when someone needs a quadruple bypass for those clogged arteries.
Thank you.
These food police, not my fault whinners get on my G-D nerves blamming KFC and other fast food outlets instead of blamming themselves.
They should start taxing fast food. That will make people think twice before giving in to the pleasures of the palate.
What the 81--good point!
There's already a tax on fast food, because it's a service, at least here in Michigan.. x.x
I don't care what I eat any more-Obamacare will take care of me!
Guess what? I have not gained one pound or been rushed to the hospital yet. lol
Well said K. Lilly.
I love fast food and fried food but I have enough sense not to eat it every day.
Just wait ...in time you will feel it and see it.
I will admit that I have been tempted to get one of these, but I settled for popcorn chicken which probably has more calories and fat than the Double Down! Go figure!
.
FAT NATION!!! LOL..You Americans will never learn!!
I am 5 foot 7 and 140 lbs. Where are you from?
If you are a woman...you are fat... at 5'7 your weight should be 125 at the most...more weight to come...keep eating...I'm from Israel...you guys eat too much...
Come to my home town of Hampton, VA because 7 out of 10 people are obese.
Guess there's a different BMI in Israel.
Well said EZ.
5'5 205..Heart Attack waiting to happen...
Now go away.
If there are no place with healthy food....COOK AT HOME!! Don't blame it on fast food.
Lady, don't go by the BMI. According to that, my friend is obese. He is NOT; he is extremely muscular. The BMI can't rate based upon muscle content.
Guess what? Healthy people die every single day.
My father is a retired physician. People always asked him what his hobby was. His response was "Attending the funerls of my athletic friends". In other words just like Forrestsa said, healthy people die every day. By the way my father is now 88 and has never restricted his diet.
I dunno... I had my first and only a couple weeks ago... everything was waaay too salty, particularly the bacon. Not to my tastes.
On a scale of 1-10, I'd give this thing a 3.
that is 540 BEFORE the large fries and 32oz soda. No wonder were such fat asses. God bless America. Total salt intake with fries is probably close to 2000 mg....bring on the heart attack. A male is supposed to eat about 200 calories a day if they are active.
200 calories a day??????
I think I intake 200 cals a day in air alone.
sorry 2000
Wait until you see the follow up. They add a deep fried snickers inside, dip it in batter and serve it with with draw butter. They will pair it with pork rinds an a shake made from Gelato and the leftover fryoil.
So if this is the only meal I eat all day, am I ok otherwise?
I just had to read the comments on this. I knew there would be the people blaming KFC for even selling something such as this. Well guess what, folks? It's called a CHOICE! You have the right to eat it if you want and not to eat it if you don't want!! Quit blaming KFC for even offering it and make the choice yourself.
there is enough protein in that sandwich for 4 people, also not necessary.
That should make the already obese KFC customers happy. Can't wait for one of these cows to sue KFC when their heart explodes out their chest.
KFC stands for Keep Fat Customers!
How would one go about suing someone after their "heart has exploded out of their chest"?
To those who hate being told what NOT to eat, go ahead, stuff another one of these heart-stoppers in your mouth, and savor the beastly affects of cardiovascular disease, obesity, and diabetes. Eat your heart out! Literally!
And as Americans, they should have the freedom to do so.
Nessa-1820808
These comments are just too funny!!
Love all the do-gooder and righteous liberal condemnations. You people are so pathetic. You continually indict yourselves. Get a life.
I read the articale twice, i dont recall seeing the words liberal or conservative in it. Why must it always be politics with some of you people. Here let me hold a mirror up for you, now repeat your last sentence.
"Love all the do-gooder and righteous liberal condemnations"
Would the opposite of this be "Hate all the wrong-doing and evil conservative approvers"?
Ditto Zach, not sure where politics came into this article and the comments.
Justifying bad diets, defending bad choices and KFC's decision to market a product they know to be massively unhealthy. It's the American way!
So is whinning and trying to run everybody's life the way PC people think it should run from behind a computer screen.
the point is that America is way overweight and it is not because of mom's homemade dinner, but fast food and soda. Overweight people have health problems 75% more than smokers as there are so many fat people....no one seems to mind smokers paying more, but talk about a fat tax on this crap food and look out.
jp-1092210
Wow.
"KFC's corporate parent is Yum Brands Inc."
Yum Brands for Dumb Fans...
Add to that, most americans abhorr any form of exercise and don't want to do anything else but watch tv all day
Guess what? Healthy people die every single day.
war-manelli
Yeah, I see health dead people all over the place. I think the Surgeon General has determined that dying is hazardous to your health.
aimhigh
They "die early" but cost US ALL every second they take to expire. Wake up.
Should we put them up at a 5 Star hotel?
Perhaps you are disgusting as well, nessa!
When you see your waistline expand and have a few heart attacks, you'll realize it's not so healthy.
are you a genius? ...
No. but I am a personal trainer.
Being a personal trainer doesn't make you a health expert. Sorry but I have many friends who have been personal trainers and they themselves admit that it doesn't take much education to do so.
common sense - you have none. If you exercise you can handle some protein - maybe that's the part you are missing.
I hope KFC sells billions of these before machelle obama stops the sale of these
What does she have to do with KFC?
Guess what? Healthy people die every single day.
Agreed, Forrestsa.
Here's something interesting:
My stepfather is athletic, careful about what he eats, doesn't eat red meat or anything fried or junk food, and exercises.
My mother is overweight (she has a thyroid condition that also doesn't help), eats what she wants, used to smoke, and doesn't exercise much. She is also older than my stepfather
Which one is healthier? Answer: My mother. My stepfather has high cholestorol, blood pressure, and constantly complains about pain after he eats. When I looked at just the prescription pills alone and the vitamins alone, my stepfather was taking more pills and more vitamins than my mother.
Yeah, she sounds like the model of health. Saw her on the over of Fitness Magazine last month
Oh ok, I should have known, people's diets have almost no impact in someone's health. what do i know.
No further explanation is neccesary, the damage is done...
He may have been healthy at the time of his death but years earlier he weighed 240 pounds and smoked two packs of cigarettes per day.
At the time of his death one coronary artery was blocked by 95%, a second 85%, and a third 70%. That is YEARS of bad eating habits.
@Freedom Writer -- like the the old addage says...you can't fix stupid. But you can sure hope it will tax itself to death.
agreed. It's like natural selection.
Too bad we cant tax stupid because then all our governments problems would be solved.
Thanks for the recipe!
LOL
So, when you grab your chest in the middle of the street and fall over, should we all just mind our own business?
JCB, thanks for proving my point. Are you still in middle school when the worst thing you can call someone is fat? Grow up. And no, I've never had a weight problem - I still run cross country. Nice try, though.
Hmmm, Jane, should heart attack victims be weighed before CPR is administered? I've known a few runners with heart problems that pacemakers were able to fix.
