President Barack Obama is pushing his administration's plans to create jobs, a crucial campaign issue for Democrats as they look toward November's midterm elections.
Translation: President Barack Obama is now scared to death that he is going to lose his minions in Congress, the lemmings who have pretty much rubber-stamped anything HE, the POTUS, wants to do.
Oops, the elections are coming !! I guess I better try to do something to LOOK LIKE I AM ACTUALLY DOING SOMETHING to put American people back to work. Certainly, I need my lemmings who will follow me................wherever, and however, .... even over a cliff of financial insanity for this country.
Sadly, his idea of creating jobs is to hire 17000 more IRS agents and 100,000 census employees. Thats all the ideas he has. Creating GOVT JOBS contribute nothing to the health and wellness of our country, they only take from the struggling taxpayers.
Thus some propaganda working since Fall is a whisper away; jobs created, making high tech components, USING TAX PAYER FUNDS, for products that none can afford since WE'RE STILL losing our homes, our apartments, are underemployed when we can find work..... same front page news, "workers willing to take less .....".
Then rebuttled numbers will come out, the costs of these jobs 'created', the numbers of how many were called back to work temporarily, will work temporarily, etc... .
Still not listening on the Hill or the House; they're still going forward with what THEY want, HOW they want, and are continuing the same policies that HAVE BEEN selling out OUR jobs overseas and continue to promote off-shoring of manufacturing and production.
It's not "we" turning the corner. They have done nothing to turn the corner. All the new laws and policies of this administration are killing jobs. And I've yet to see any of this "turning any corner." This smoke and mirrors BS of this administration is beyond getting old.
Just on another Vine, pertaining to jobs, or 'turning the corner', I'd posted:
One has to worry about what 'bringing the country together' may mean; as in, if we're all in the same boat for better or for worse, we've been 'brought together'.
There is, IMO, a GREAT push now to level the playing field in America; to the descent of many and ascent of others. No matter any's political affiliations or personal 'whims', class destruction is never warranted in America.
Again, MO, but I think there is a great hitting of the 'reset' button going on or being attempted, where all start from nothing and work their way up again. And, though I'm against this admin and Congress for furthering it and accelerating it, NO.... I don't believe it started here, 8 years prior, or 2 decades prior to that.
first off! With a 49million dollar GRANT from the tax payors of the USA I would hire some people and expand my facility too! What have I got to lose. As for this admin goes they have done more harm to this country than any other admin in our history. You can not expand wealth by DIVIDEING IT!!! That will not work. All the admin is doing is making thenselves wealthy and of coarse their best buds too. We should be proud we are so patriotic and are allowing this to happen. I'm sure Joe Biden is so proud of the liberal sheep. This sickens me beyond beleif. Good luck America for the corner we have turned is to dictatorship.
With the health care reform passed I believe that things wil pick up in the job market. As much as I detest the reform bill at least it is done for now and companies at least know what it's going to do to them so they can now proceed. The total lack of trust for the liberals running this country is what is slowing things down. If they are going to screw us they should just hurry up and get it over with so we can go on with as little as we are left with. The hard working Americans will get the job done when they actually know what they're working with. Please Mr. President, get the hell out of the way.
All of this money has not been spent on any lasting job creations. Short term projects like repaving roads is not going to create new jobs in the long run. Neither will the hiring of census employees. The government jobs are just salaries that the taxpayers are on the hook for.
This just doesn't make sense in the long run. How many other "stimulus" projects have squandered most if not all their money with nothing to show for it. BTW, I live in the Charlotte area and this was NOT a town hall meeting. It was totally closed to the public and staged for the media.
"President Barack Obama is pushing his administration's plans to create jobs, a crucial campaign issue for Democrats as they look toward November's midterm elections."
To little to late...
The financial bailout of GM etc the banks etc.. was touted as a jobs bill... That DID NOT WORK.
The "Stimulas Jobs Bill" which was some 800+ billion dollars of earmarks DID NOT WORK.
Per Harry Reid, to paraphrase a portion of what he said, the health insurance reform bill was also a "Jobs Bill" .. THAT WILL NOT work.. since most business's sure will get some tax credits but that will not defry the actual costs..especially with major employers.. SO THAT WILL NOT WORK...
CAN WE as a nation to spend even more? NO. Why?
“State debt woes grow too big to camouflage Economist: ‘When an accident is waiting to happen, it eventually does’ By Mary Williams Walsh New York Times updated 4:57 a.m. PT, Tues., March. 30, 2010 California, New York and other states are showing many of the same signs of debt overload that recently took Greece to the brink — budgets that will not balance, accounting that masks debt, the use of derivatives to plug holes, and armies of retired public workers who are counting on benefits that are proving harder and harder to pay. And states are responding in sometimes desperate ways, raising concerns that they, too, could face a debt crisis…..” [1]
What does this mean to US? It means that the government will not have any money to provide services. California has already started furloughs state employees (mandatory days off) along with closing courts.
This does not stop with the states… With recent passage of the Health Care “Reform” the U.S. Federal government will be taking on another 1.7 trillion dollars of debt. That's ok..we will just borrow more, right?
“Under the President’s budget, debt held by the public would grow from $7.5 trillion (53 percent of GDP) at the end of 2009 to $20.3 trillion (90 percent of GDP) at the end of 2020. As a result, net interest would more than quadruple between 2010 and 2020 in nominal dollars (without an adjustment for inflation); it would expand from 1.4 percent of GDP in 2010 to 4.1 percent in 2020.” -Emphasis added. [2]
What does this mean? This means Liabilities will practically equal “assets” of the U.S. and that is not good in any way shape or form. The U.S. debt will be 90% ! ! ! of our Gross Domestic Product.. Our debt is _consuming— the U.S.’s ability to provide the most basic of services…. This is just like when you owe peter, paul and the rest of the family and are paying out literally everything you are taking in…
This is NO joke…this isn’t a scare tactic.. this REALITY….
Unfortunately this does not stop here….
“The credit ratings agency cautioned that if the US were to grow at slower pace levels than expected, the largest economy in the world’s already-extended finances could be over-stretched, in turn damaging its AAA credit rating…..Were the US to lose its AAA rating, it could cause further financial damage, by increasing the cost of borrowing money, a necessary evil for a country predicted to have a $1.56 trillion (£980bn) budget deficit this year….” [3]
“…A downgrade would affect more than American pride. The bigger risk would be to the country’s ability to keep borrowing money on extremely favorable terms, and therefore to keep spending more money than it takes in from tax revenue…..A credit rating lets lenders and investors know how likely it is that a borrower can pay back a loan. A sterling rating means there is little for lenders to worry about. A lower one typically results in bond investors demanding higher interest rates on debt….” [4]
“…NEW YORK (Fortune) -- The United States isn't in jeopardy of losing its gold-plated credit rating, though by one measure America is closer to the ratings-downgrade danger zone than Spain….In the case of the United States, interest payments on general government debt -- combining the federal government with the states -- could rise above 10% of revenue by 2013, according to the report…..That's the level at which the rating agency typically considers a downgrade. Moody's said debt affordability is the key factor to consider in ratings decisions, because debt costs are apt to constrain policymakers….” [5]
So the next step is when WE as a nation cannot pay for anything….. what then? Greece was or is still on that road… We ARE NEXT.
WHERE does this leave us? Oh ya that health care thingy..that will not help business (the job creators) but will just hamper business. See below... (the example of the small busines person and the major employers)...
The REAL APPLICATION of the Health Care law with.. real life examples:
RE: Aubree Sullivan
“Putting a pre-existing condition behind her…When she returned, she got a good job working for the local Epilepsy Foundation, but had trouble qualifying for insurance. Finally, after much effort, she found a small, personal plan that would cover everything -- except her pre-existing condition. The policy, which costs her employer $250 a month, includes a lifetime exclusion for melanoma…..Sullivan could qualify for a newly funded insurance program for people with pre-existing conditions that would cover her melanoma. The premiums likely will be higher than the $250 she pays now, but any recurrence of cancer would be covered.”
Surely, under the new health care law this person who makes $27k a year can obtain coverage for her pre-existing condition she WILL more likely than not have to pay a HIGHER premium. The question here, ok, she can get insurance, but she probably will NOT be able to afford it. Was this really reform then? In my view no, since sure you can get insurance but like the many here in California who are required to have auto insurance that still need to drive but still can’t afford the insurance. The “reform” is systemically flawed because the insurance company has to be able to as they say “rate” the person to afford the person to be covered. The company will also raise rates on other healthy people (as they do with good drivers) to cover the persons with bad driving records as with poor health. As stated before there are no premium cost controls….zero.
"Youth may pay a lot more for health premiums- Costs expected to rise 17 percent once insurance is required.....CHICAGO - Under the health care overhaul, young adults who buy their own insurance will carry a heavier burden of the medical costs of older Americans — a shift expected to raise insurance premiums for young people when the plan takes full effect. ....Beginning in 2014, most Americans will be required to buy insurance or pay a tax penalty. That's when premiums for young adults seeking coverage on the individual market would likely climb by 17 percent on average, or roughly $42 a month, according to an analysis of the plan conducted for The Associated Press. The analysis did not factor in tax credits to help offset the increase....The higher costs will pinch many people in their 20s and early 30s who are struggling to start or advance their careers at a time when the unemployment rate is at a 26-year high...............The law relies on Higdon and other young adults to shoulder more of the financial load in new health insurance risk pools. So under the new system, Higdon could expect to pay $300 to $500 a year more. Depending on his income, he might also qualify for tax credits. [Even if he gets tax credits YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE ABILITY TO PAY FOR IT -- FIRST --]....Some groups predict even higher increases in premiums for younger individuals — as much as 50 percent, says Landon Gibbs of ShoutAmerica, a Tennessee-based nonprofit aimed at mobilizing young people on health care issues, particularly rising costs......"
“…As part of that effort, he turned down a health insurance policy offered by his employer, a moving contractor. He figured he's healthy enough not to need insurance and, besides, the company pays him $50 a month for declining it…He's been looking for a cheap insurance policy that offers catastrophic coverage, perhaps for injuries or illnesses that cost more than $5,000….Personal impact of health reform: Because he will be 30 in 2014, Myers won't qualify for the "young invincible" catastrophic coverage option under health reform. So he'll face a choice: Taking his employer's plan, buying an individual policy on the exchange, or paying a first-year penalty of 1 percent of his income.”
Mr. Myers doesn’t want insurance but will be required to obtain it or get penalized by the IRS. He makes $32k a year and obviously cannot afford much. With the penalty he will be paying 1% of his income to the government because he doesn’t want insurance and is saving money. Mr. Myer’s penalty will be $320.00 dollars on top of the rest of his income taxes he pays (he’s single and probably has limited deduction). What is cheaper..paying the penalty or having insurance?
RE: Greg Mohr
“Name: Greg Mohr, 47, Susan Mohr, 41, Randolph, N.J. Occupation: Self-employed computer technician, owner of cat kennel Income (household): $92,000 annually Current insurance: Small group HMO….he downside of that autonomy, however, is the $14,640 Mohr pays each year for health insurance to cover his family, which includes two sons, ages 6 and 4. He buys a small group HMO plan available to small businesses. It requires co-payments of $25 for each doctor's visit, $50 to see a specialist and $500 a day for a hospital visit. But Mohr says he's happy with the solid coverage, if not the cost. "It's ridiculously expensive," he said….Personal impact of health reform: As a business owner, Mohr this year may receive tax credits of up to 35 percent of the cost of his current insurance plan, though the health reform bill is fuzzy on whether his small firm would qualify.…In 2014, he will be able to buy coverage on the insurance exchange at similar rates that large businesses pay. So his overall bottom line for health insurance could improve then. “
First, ok, Mr. Mohr will get some tax credits… “Businesses with fewer than 25 employees that pay an average of no more than $40,000 will get a tax credit - up to 35 percent of the company's share of their total health care premium.”
Oddly enough if he were a corporation (and not a small business corporation” Mr. Mohr could deduct his entire premium expenses..but because he is a small business he can only deduct only a portion (Nice eh?..this how the government bends over the little guy). Also, ok.. tax credits.. which are good, since Mohr will not qualify for any other tax credits because he makes to much money… Those credits are about (giving him the max), would be a whopping $5,124 dollars.
Mr. Mohr’s tax bracket is 25% (25% on the income between $67,900 and $137,050; plus $9,350)
Mr. Mohr would have to come up with an additional $18,976 in credits (because deductions are in or around 10cents on the dollar (just used as an example) to actually save on his taxes.
Be happy for Mr. Mohr the tax credits will in essence do him no good at all…….
THE HIDDEN ASPECTS OF THE HEALTH CARE LAW
"While Congress spent the last year debating how to provide health insurance for the uninsured, a little-known provision slipped into the heath care law that could cost some Americans upwards of $2,000 a year.The Class Act, otherwise known as the Community Living Assistance Services and Support Act, is... the federal government's first long-term care insurance program.Under-reported and the under the radar of most lawmakers, the program will allow workers to have an average of roughly $150 or $240 a month, based on age and salary, automatically deducted from their paycheck to save for long-term care....."
SO.. MORE money OUT of YOUR PAYCHECK.............to be robbed by Congress like Social Security is robbed to pay for other things....
ALL OF THIS is amid major EMPLOYERS are being socked... Layoffs are to come along with higher costs...
AT&T will take $1 billion charge for health careRetirees could lose prescription drug coverage provided by former employer...."NEW YORK - AT&T Inc. will take a $1 billion non-cash accounting charge in the first quarter because of the health care overhaul and may cut benefits it offers to current and retired workers.The... charge is the largest disclosed so far. Earlier this week, AK Steel Corp., Caterpillar Inc., Deere & Co. and Valero Energy announced similar accounting charges, saying the health care law that President Barack Obama signed Tuesday will raise their expenses."...
"ObamaCare Day One...Companies are already warning about higher health-care costs....Even before President Obama signed the bill on Tuesday, Caterpillar said it would cost the company at least $100 million more in the first year alone. Medical device maker Medtronic warned that new taxes on its product......s could force it to lay off a thousand workers. Now Verizon joins the roll of businesses staring at adverse consequences.....U.S. accounting laws also require businesses to immediately restate their earnings in light of the higher tax burden on their long-term retiree health liabilities. This will have a big effect on their 2010 earnings......In its employee note, Verizon also warned about the 40% tax on high-end health plans, though that won't take effect until 2018. "Many of the plans that Verizon offers to employees and retirees are projected to have costs above the threshold in the legislation and will be subject to the 40 percent excise tax." These costs will start to show up soon, and, as we repeatedly argued, the tax is unlikely to drive down costs. The tax burden will simply be spread to all workers—the result of the White House's too-clever decision to tax insurers, rather than individuals.... Businesses around the country are making the same calculations as Verizon and no doubt sending out similar messages. It's only a small measure of the destruction that will be churned out by the rewrite of health, tax, labor and welfare laws that is ObamaCare, and only the vanguard of much worse to come."
Headlines : AT&T, Deere CEOs Called by Waxman to Back Up Health-Bill Costs
"...March 27, 2010, 7:28 PM EDT March 27 (Bloomberg) -- Representative Henry Waxman called the chief executive officers of AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc., Caterpillar Inc. and Deere & Co. to provide evidence to support costs the companies plan to book related to the new health-care law.
Waxman of California, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and subcommittee Chairman Bart Stupak of Michigan released letters they wrote to the executives, saying their plans to record expenses against earnings as a result of the law contradict other estimates. The lawmakers requested the executives appear at hearing Stupak plans on April 21..............AT&T previously received a tax-free benefit from the government to subsidize health-care costs for retirees. Under the new bill, AT&T will no longer be able to deduct that subsidy.............Tax Burden......As a result of this legislation, including the additional tax burden, AT&T will be evaluating prospective changes to the active and retiree health-care benefits offered by the company,” the carrier said in the filing.................New York-based Verizon, the second-largest U.S. phone company, told employees in a note shortly after the law was signed that the tax will make a drug subsidy less valuable to employers like Verizon and so “may have significant implications for both retirees and employers............Moline, Illinois-based Deere, the world’s largest maker of farm machinery, said on March 25 that the new health-care law would increase its expenses by $150 million this fiscal year......"
...more and more companies are this boat and are stating so......
ALL OF THIS is amid the President and top congressional leaders are exempt from what they are forcing you to have.
"And now many congressional aides who like their current health insurance policies and will be forced to switch are asking: Why?" ...."Come 2014, all 100 U.S. senators, all 435 representatives in the House and every one of their personal aides will have to go to the newly formed state exchanges for health insurance -- ...just like everyone else in the country who isn't covered by their employer.But select congressional leadership staffers -- some of whom wrote the health insurance act -- won't. And neither will White House staffers and Cabinet members -- nor the president himself. They will be allowed to keep their current plans, which are offered to all other federal employees......"
"TANNER: "Don't count on your insurance premiums going down. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the bills do little or nothing to reduce insurance premiums. For millions of Americans, the Senate bill will actually make things worse, increasing insurance premiums by 10%-13% for Americans who buy their insurance through the non-group market, that is those who don't receive insurance from their employer. Those increases are over and above the increases that would occur if we did nothing — roughly doubling premiums by 2016, according to the CBO. You also may not be able to keep the insurance you have today. Insurance plans would have to meet certain government-defined standards. Those standards may be more expensive than your current plan or may include benefits you don't want."
All the while the IRS will be at our backs and knocking on our doors...
THE IRS:
"There's no way to afford expensive provisions such as forcing insurance companies to cover people with, say, pre-existing conditions unless millions of healthy people who won't need insurance are forced to pay into the system.....Partly that's because the law is unclear. The original House bill opened the door for criminal sanctions against Americans who didn't buy health insurance and pay the penalty. The Senate bill did the same until Sen. John Ensign (R., Nev.) successfully pushed to amend the bill. Even so, the final language begs the question that Mr. Shulman and Mr. Weiner avoided: Who's going to enforce the mandate, and how?....It's more than a theoretical proposition. Approximately one in six drivers goes without auto insurance, according to the Insurance Research Council, even though most states require it. As for health coverage, the U.S. Census says that Massachusetts' has the nation's lowest rate of uninsured at 5.4%, thanks in part to its own individual mandate. Even so, costs have exploded and fines for not carrying coverage are increasing....."
Police? I think Obama needs to rethink tons of stuff.. No PEOPLE need to vote out the people who put this country on the road to fiscal disaster so that the new people in congress can actually make it beneficial for a company to hire people again...
Of course this contradicts with the left idealogy... but hey.. If the people who think this way need a job.
That is Obama's theory. The real story is that we still have massive unemployment, people looking for the last 2 years to feed their families, and once again have a normal life.
Until the Unemployment issue is resolved, nothing will change.
We all know it, but he doesn't. Turning the corner, means the Health Care Bill got passed through, so he can proceed to turn this country into a European Socialist Government.
Yes, the corner has been turned. For him, not us. What about the Foreclosures. If most don't have work, they can't pay for their mortgages, nor travel, (an industry). Staycations. Those are vacations.
Econonomically, look at all the businesses that are still going out. When the unemployment numbers are in a level range, I'll begin to believe it.
He ought to start making more Allies, like Britain and Israel, Germany.
Sitting in an Ivory bubbled tower, he won't know what the private sector h-------------- is going on.
He has permanently destroyed the economy for years to come, with all the Taxes to pay for his useless programs, he has created.
Lets see what happens when June comes around and the newly hired census takers are no longer needed.You can be sure they will hit the unemployment office.This idiot, Obama, really believes people are stupid,or else he is delusional and stupid.What a mess he made.Bush was bad, but this guy takes the cake for Horrid.Maybe they should change the name of Nobel Peace Prize to Nobel Stupid Prize.
Boy Scott did u hit th nail on th head. "What corner did we turn"? left i'd say. if U R a "FREE LUNCHER" this sounds great doesnt it. But we all know; those of us that work and have worked our entire lives, THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH YOU @!$%#S. We will, no doubt, have to continue to do so to support not only those, who are truely in need and of course those who want the "free lunch" and feel they "deserve" it just for existing. These lumps of flesh are and will always b losers. I know, and am not ashamed to say, that I am sick of this crap and am personally tired, exhausted, and tapped out. After working since age 17, just shy of 40 yrs. and being the pig that built my house of stone, seeing everyone around me overextend themselves, take weekends off, buy extravagant items on credit, take big vacations, spend like barons, then expect and in many cases get bailed out, makes me puke. Now this @!$%# president wants more "Robin Hood". KMA u SOB. I know I am not alone.
I woke up with the sun shining through my window. The birds were chirping. I knew it was going to be a good day. Little did I realize that this was all due to the good news I would be hearing today concerning our economy. To think that mother nature was rejoicing over the good news about our economy & woke me up to celebrate!
JH--- Very true, very well put. Many of us, once we at least KNOW where we stand, will do what it takes; even if it means (sadly) dragging dead weight behind us on our way up. It'll just take longer and hurt more, but I'm one not to give up.... again, I DO need to know where I stand.
"We are beginning to turn the corner," he told employees of a manufacturing plant that received government stimulus money.
So what happens to all the competing plants that didn't get government money, they probably had massive layoffs. This guy is a joke. You don't tax people to death, then pick favorites with 'simulus' money you took from the market in the first place. Oh, yeah then they are grateful to get some of their money back, while their competitors didn't.
I wonder where people think the 'stimulus' money comes from? They think its Obama money? No, it's ours. They should cut taxes then it will stay where the productive companies and people are, which is where it would actually do the most good.
There are a lot of clueless comments in this board to do things like jack up taxes to 90% etc... to reduce the deficit. Obviously they failed economics and life.
According to the U.S Department of Labor most of those JOBS were t...e...mporary workers... TEMPORARY.....
"Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 162,000 in March, and the unemployment rate held at 9.7 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Temporary help services and health care continued to add jobs over the month. Employment in federal government also rose, reflecting the hiring of temporary workers for Census 2010. Employment continued to decline in financial activi- ties and in information.....
In March, nonfarm payroll employment rose by 162,000. Job growth continued in tem- porary help services and in health care. Federal government employment increased due to the hiring of temporary workers for Census 2010. Job losses continued in financial activities and in information. (See table B-1.)
Temporary help services added 40,000 jobs in March. Since September 2009, tempor- ary help services employment has risen by 313,000.
Employment in health care continued to increase in March (27,000), with the larg- est gains occurring in ambulatory health care services (16,000) and in nursing and residential care facilities (9,000).
In March, employment in mining increased by 8,000. Monthly job gains in mining have averaged 6,000 over the past 5 months.
Employment in federal government was up over the month, reflecting the hiring of 48,000 temporary workers for the decennial census.
Manufacturing employment continued to trend up in March (17,000); the industry has added 45,000 jobs in the first 3 months of 2010. Over the month, job gains were concentrated in fabricated metal products (9,000) and in machinery (6,000).
Employment in construction held steady (15,000) in March.
The industry had lost an average of 72,000 jobs per month in the prior 12 months.
Over the month, employment changed little in transportation and warehousing, leisure and hospitality, retail trade, and wholesale trade."
SO... All of this boasting by Obama is just that... just MORE boasting.. most of the increase in jobs is from temporary workers from both the private and employ by the federal government (hmm maybe the census takers)....
The federal unemployment rate is holding at 9.7%... Now if you take away the temp hirings? The federal unemployment would be HIGHER...... The devil is the details.
CAN WE AFFORD to SPEND ...even MORE money? NO. WHY?

One thing that escapes many supporters of the "green" economy is there has yet to be a free market demand for many of these wonderful products. Celgard may prove to be a player in the upcoming electric car industry as well as solar cell powered homes but where's the legitimate demand? Just like the bogus Carbon Motors Police car fraud where they've placed orders for 240,000 GERMAN BMW power trains when they have 12,000 orders. Where are they gonna create demand for the other 95% of their "market"? Are they going to use Govco to mandate it?? The same with Celgard. Are they going to supply batteries or battery cases for the upcoming Nissan Leaf or Chevy Volt? If so how many firm orders does Nissan have?? Government Motors?? I just don't see the huge market for a car that makes you walk after 100 miles or a $40,000 extended range electric which doesn't seem a great step forward from the current class of hybrids (Prius,Camry,Fusion,Escape,Altima,Civic, Insight) but is a lot more expensive.
I have to admit that for Obama to make that statement considering the number that was hired for the government alone made nearly the whole amount of nerw hires was about as dumb as you can get....the people he placed in positions to assist him are handing out lies upon lies .... if he can see no better than this he should not be in office. But then we have over 500 in congress that are no better at what they are doing either...they should also not be in offices that they hold.
Fred G.'s first sentence adds it up nicely and is in my first post to some degree; we CAN'T AFFORD to live as it is, so to push an agenda forth that there's no market for, only 'ideally' would be good to HAVE a market for, does little.... especially when, on the other side of the coin, the costs to export OUR GOODS FAR OUTWEIGH those of what are charged to import; thus, we won't even be very competitive on an export market based economy because NOTHING has been done to make it lucrative for American Business to remain HERE OR for American Businesses to EXPORT what we (may) make here.
Global wealth redistribution...... now, to WHOM'S benefits? That's an easy one there......
Turning the Corner must the new phase for hitting the bottom of the cliff. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN you have lost the trust of America. FOX NEWS is the only truthful news going.
Only Obama could tell America we are turning the corn when we loose 448,000 jobs but created 23,000 real jobs.
1 new job for every 20 we loose. Good job President Crackhead.
Russia created millions of jobs with the same type of job creation and look how well they have done. Comrade Obama has "created" thousands of TEMPORY jobs demanded by law for CENSUS. He DID NOT have a damn thing to do with the census workers hired, no matter who is President the workers have to be hired. The real job creaters are those that do not mail back the form and the Temps have to go to the houses. The more of us that don't send in the forms the longer the temps have work. As usual the Socialist/communist pres Obama takes credit for something he had no part in the creation, but it is always someone else's fault for the bad. When we have no Dr. available it is the problem of the AMA for not believing Obama is the new god for the world. Where are the DR.'s coming from if they are not able to pay off the loans to get the medical degree. son't worry folks Obama will tell disease and illness to leave and they will obey, Saint Braaaaack will protect us. NOT
Mark you are totally correct. also obama didnot open up drilling off shore he just allowed exploration off shore which won't help our dependence on foreign oil at all It just smoke and mirrors to make the country think he is doing something. His real intent is to slip in cap and trade legislation behind our backs.
So, we added 162,000 jobs; fine. But, how many more jobs were lost? Is the result an increase or decrease in overall unemployment. Information, please.
Turn the corner, from a community organizer who never had to make a payroll, never had to meet a earnings requirement, never had to balance hiring or paying taxes. The bill he just signed into law is a job killer. Tax credit won't convince business owners to reduce costs, all it does is provide the government with an interest free loan for the period in which the government holds the money. At this rate the present value of a future amount is decreasing, so I'm paying you in today's dollars and get back the devalued dollar at the end of the year. You're telling business they have to pay billions of dollars to health care, before you increase the federal tax rate to 40%. Then my state income tax is going to increase, because you've told the state in this brand new spanking law that they must cover the medicare shortfall, so that increases. Then I have to go out an hire a Wall Street accountant and a Philadelphia attorney to make sure I comply with this brand new spanking law so that I keep my butt out of jail for non-compliance. What profit I had is gone. That's the reality. That's the corner I turned.
How long can college graduates with serious future careers, such as medicine do 'road work" or digging ditches.
In our area, as most there has been no change of people getting their jobs back. Many have moved out of the area to take lesser jobs than they had, taking big "hits" on their homes, just about giving them away. Loss of equity, loss of income.
This is all for Obama spilling out the Chicago way of Politics, and the Politburo of Russia, and other Socialist, Communist Countries.
He didn't have one thing occur to him:
Americans are smarter than he is. We are living the nightmare.
Who has any extra money, or have taken a real vacation lately?
Popcorn and DVD's. That's the entertainment for an average family. Nothing else. Walking is 'free".
Obama needs to turn his corner and keep going. Don't look back!
I'm working on 10 dismal months on unemployment. This has been the worst year of my entire life. I have never been out of work this long since I was 15 years old. 30 freaking years of my life, trying to get ahead, only to fall flat on my face in less than a year. Thank you my wonderful Government! Thank you very much. Oh yes, you will blame me for saying you should have thought about a rainy day, you should have saved, you should have done this or done that. Well as a single woman I did, savings all gone now to pay the every growing bills and put the ever climbing price of food on the table and try to keep an ever climbing rental over my head, since landlords are taking full advantage of people looking for rentals because they cannot afford their mortgage anymore plus the property taxes and everything else. Plus helping out my 2 kids who are both out of work as well. One laid off before christmas down south and the other one in NJ layed off in January and neither of them worked long enough to get unemployment. Its a wonderful life!
Unemployment is NOT a full paycheck don't forget. Its only a portion of whatever your base salary was for your base year, whichever that was. Losing everything but the clothes on my back is really starting to suck, I've even given up my car, can't afford to fix it, pay car insurance- that was the last resort, the last thing I had to give up. now I have to bus it to go job hunting.
Temporary jobs are not real job creation. Real job creation is when people have faith that the economy is going to get better, and start expanding their failing businesses and offices and factories, hire full time people instead of trying to keep on one person who is working the job of 4 people because Boss can't afford to pay anyone or Boss hires 2 part time people so he does not have to pay benefits. Real job creation does not have a going out of business sign hanging on its doors. Real job creation isn't scurrying from one 10 hour a week job to another 8 hour a week job to a 12 hour a week job just to make a full time job with no benefits.
Yeah, so highway projects are back in action, the census people are about to begin knocking on doors. All temporary employment. And what happens when those jobs end. They all wind up back on the unemployment rolls and the numbers go up. It doesn't take a freakin rocket scientist to do some easy math. Health care is not going to have a grand amount of job openings for some time. Actually I work in health care and there are many facilities still laying off and lessening hours to see how well they can function on less manpower. Many of the open positions that are ever listed on job sites are for part time positions. When you are unemployed and spend a few hours on employment sites 7 days a week, you know what is out there.
By the way, that unemployment rate in my state was listed at 18.9% last week I believe. Its dismal on the horizon, but I'm sure some seasonal job openings will begin soon. But even the job sites are slow- there are virtually no job listings for websites that used to be full of page after page of job openings just a little over a year ago. The classifieds in the newspapers are virtually non-existant now unless you are looking for a "cheap date" or a scam post office job where you have to pay them.
Obama won't visit an unemployment office, he'll just read some numbers on a piece of paper that change by the hour.
I knew the spin doctors in the right winged party would find fault in whatever is reported. Whatever your gripe, there are jobs that are getting people back to work. So sit back and drink that large glass of hater-aid and go to the Caribou Barbie's pep rally. Do forget your sheets.
OK once again lets look at the math of the situation. From the article... "Celgard LLC factory, which received a $49 million grant from the U.S."... "the grant was creating nearly 300 direct jobs for the company and more than 1,000 jobs for its contractors and suppliers".
this means that the permanent jobs that 49 million created cost us $163333.33 each that is 49 mil divided by 300. If you count the temp jobs that goes to $37692.31, 49 mil divided by 1300. but that is to say that the "suppliers" had to staff up, which I doubt is true. But then again they can make any numbers up that they want to. I am pretty sure that they believe that if you spout off any old garbage long enough the people will believe you. As for me... well, I think that paying 163 grand per factory job is not a real good value. But hey, I and the rest of you all are only going to have to pay for this mess later on (with interest).
Oh lookie, another article about how well our economy is doing. 15 million people unemployed. We spend hundreds of billions of dollars to create 162,000 "jobs".
Let's see, we just decreased the unemployed by 1%. So in 12 months we will decrease the number of people unemployed by 12% so in 8 years we'll be back to where we were 2 years ago. How do the millions unemployed survive for 2-3-4-,,,,,years? How? More unemployment extensions, social programs and taxes to pay for it all.
If you truly believe we are going to compete with the global markets,,,forget it. There is NO incentive for business to invest in America. Nafta, taxes and unions make us totally cost prohibitive. So, in the meantime we will wander in mediocrity, no means to pay off our massive debt or ability to create sustainable jobs that create an increased GDP. Housing will be unaffordable, cars will be priced out by the EPA and Cap & Tax, luxuries will be urban legend and the American Dream will be a footnote in our history books.
But hey, we'll have all the free medical care we need, lots of fresh air to breathe, many new people who were once illegal aliens as friends and a government that will control everything you do or want to do.
YAWWWWNNNNNNN, wake me up when some real news occurs that will help our country not our POTUS.
HURRAY!!!! Now if the administration can find a way to pass another unconstitutional 'swipe half-fast law(?); and if we can do perpetual census'; then maybe those 165,000 jobs will be real!!!!!!!
yankee stuck in the south
I'm sure if you explain your dilemna to some of your southern neighbors how you really feel, they'd more than gladly pay your bus fare home :)
Just the opposite. Construction jobs which had been sputtering in January under 'Preserve or Create' mil.gov welfare tax dole are now very close to zero. My job at a hiring agency is to monitor these opportunities, and there are now large areas of the country with ZERO new jobs posted this week in construction, which I've never seen in 40 years, even during Reagan's Recession. Obama's 'turned the corner' on welfare tax dole Census jobs, soon to disappear.
They'll call this generation the E-Generation, last train leaving the Jamaica station for the WTC.
Keep up the good work Mr. President Barack Obama. We know what you inherited from that coward/traitor Shrub. It is going to take time before our economy recovers from the what the last administration did to us. We are behind you 100% Mr. President. GO OBAMA.
Hmm, I think some people have already turned the corner. As a matter of fact, while millions of average working americans were losing their jobs, homes and retirement savings, the Democrats AND the Republicans made sure these people never left easy street. Here's an article from the WSWS (World Socialist) website:
Top US hedge fund managers took in $25.3 billion
By Tom Eley 2 April 2010
The top 25 managers of US hedge funds took home a record $25.33 billion in 2009, according to the new issue of the industry journal AR: Absolute Return+Alpha. The unchecked moneymaking in 2009 marked a dramatic reversal from the crisis year of 2008, when the top 25 took home “only” $11.6 billion. It surpassed even the heady days of 2007, when they combined for $22 billion.
This almost unfathomable level of personal enrichment exposes President Barack Obama’s Wall Street bailout. With the official unemployment rate near 10 percent, and with every level of government slashing jobs, education, and social programs, a small handful of individuals have—through sheer financial manipulation—reaped one-year profits counted in the billions...
As usual legitimate criticism with NO MENTION OF THE PRESIDENT WHATSOEVER, let alone anything close to a mention of race, has some lefties going with the Right Wing carry a sheet plan (and I'm as always an Independent not a Republican). Sorry, but criticizing "W" wasn't wrong and criticizing the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. isn't wrong, let alone racist! When I read a couple of job reports with six or seven hundred thousand jobs created I'll be more than happy to give the President praise, just like I did for his Afghanistan visit (although he did look like Fonzie in his leather jacket!!)!
Interesting he is having to reverse two decades of bad policy- so he lumps Clinton in with Bush anything to make it look like he is the only one that knows how to fix things- problem is the jobs he is touting while a good thing are not the end - since the "experts" say numbers and percentages of unemployed will remain high and most likely will go up again but as usual he and media jump on any good news no matter how temporary --- definatly a very slow news day since this and his false census are making news
Ist year of a four year Presidency...Does not look like he is scared of much...But the repubs and teenage whiners must be!
...So Barack Obama goes from minus 700,000 jobs a month to plus 162,000 a month in a year, effectively preventing a second great depression; He passes health care reform that will provide health insurance to tens of millions; A revolutionary student loans reform; Investing in the middle class more than any president since LBJ; Cut taxes to 95% of all Americans; Saving the financial system and bring the Dow from 6000 to 11000; Saving the entire Auto Industry; Passes a whole bunch of laws protecting ordinary citizens, including the Lilly Ledbetter Act and the Hate Crimes Bill; Investing in clean and renewable energy more than all the previous administrations combined; Ends the ban on Stem Cell Research; Stabilizing America's stance in the world and is about to sign arms control agreement with Russia - all this in 14 months and after receiving the country at the worst shape since FDR days.
I read the BSL report.It says 162,000 jobs were created in March..It also says there was no change in the unemployment rate.. If you create 162,000 jobs and there isn't any change in the rate,doesn't that mean there had to be at least that many layoffs also.... How can he celebrate that?
The election of Obama was tantamount to writing the obituary for a formerly great Nation. Obama has been exposed so many times for misrepresentation of known facts, how can anyone now trust the man to abide by any commitment? As the recent presidential polls verify, the American people are far more perceptive than Obama bargained for. Socialism, of which Obama's Socialized Health Care is only a SMALL part, has been an abject failure in every Nation where it has been implemented, so why should we be surprised that, in total, Obama style Socialism would be any different. It's Obama's intention to destroy the free-enterprise structure that has made America the most prosperous Nation in the history of mankind; and, to replace it with the Socialist structure from his native Kenya. Recent Obama efforts to penalize Savings and Investments with a surtax remove any doubt as to the man's intentions. Savings and Investments are the wellspring of any free-enterprise system, facilitating: capitalization, economic growth, and job creation. So one might ask the question: "Is Obama totally devoid of economic literacy -OR- is he intentionally destroying the existing American economic structure?" The answer becomes even more certain when we review the remaining STATED Obama agenda of Cap and Tax, Card Check, so-called Immigration Reform, Government takeover of Student Loan administration (pronounced CONTROL); and, sustained attempts at income re-distribution thru manipulation of the housing market. Each of which will present vary degrees of impediments to economic growth, job creation; and, American competiveness on the Global market. Of greatest significance will be Obama's buy-in to the "Global Warming" fraud which will prove to be the biggest jobs killer ever conceived; and, simply ship millions of America jobs overseas to countries such as China and India. In brief: our Nation was once enamored with Barack Obama's slickster readings from his ubiquitous teleprompters. -"NO MORE"-. America has seen through the attempts to remold our society into Obama's Marxist image; and, have resoundly rejected his Maoist agenda. God bless our Constitution and the America of our "FOUNDERS". The greatest blessing that could be bestowed upon America would be for Obama's total Socialist agenda to collapse on its own demerit. Only then will our economy , relieved of the Marxist millstone, rebound and once again bear the fruits of the most vibrant free-enterprise system in the history of mankind. Let's send an unequivocal message of rejection at the ballot box to our Socialist interlopers in the coming November elections. Greg Neubeck
Just who do you think has been paying for the health care of the uninsured people in this counrty? Do you think that when they get sick, they just lay down and die?
What happens is, they go to the emergency room for treatment. Then, they don't pay. The cost of their treatment is distributed amongst all of us insured people.
11 Million Foreclosures in line to happen - no end to high unemployment - escalated the "War" - grew government - a "failed" administration.
Come Novemeber, "the corner" will be "turned" - Out with ALL INCUMBENTS - let the people take control of America - not the crooks, lobbyist and professional politicians!
Downsize government, break the unions, stop entitlements, lower taxes, reward the honest, punish the crooks!!
I am incredibly relieved to see that I'm not alone in my skepticism of 162,000 jobs created when 100,000 of them are census workers and the unemployment rate stayed at 9.7%.
Someone above pointed out 162,000 jobs created and the UE percentage is unchanged= 162,000 jobs or more lost ( no way to know how many just stopped getting UE because ran out of options) add to that Home Depot, Block Buster, Alberstons, Macys and others closing stores and laying more people off in the near future as well as the temporary census and other jobs ending and most likely scenario is UE numbers will go up more by June if not sooner. But hey he can say whatever he wants and the media wqill run it as if was factual without any verification
Many of the 162,000 new jobs went to temporary Census workers. And more than 40 percent of those without jobs have been unemployed for more than six months.
This is government created jobs, not REAL job creation through incentives, tax breaks, etc, etc.
The nation's economy posted its largest job gain in three years in March, while the unemployment rate remained at 9.7 percent for the third straight month.
According to the Bureau of Labor: Unemployment statistics DO NOT include those who have stopped/are not looking for work. Therefore there are more people actually unemployed than being officially reported.
Permanent cuts to US corporate tax rates will result in permant increases in full time private sector employment. The US has the highest corporate tax rates in the world, temporary credits will not help employers, real tax cuts will help employers compete and hire people for growth.
Sorry Flex, pardon the expression but "that ain't gonna happen". You see what John Deere, caterpiller, and hundreds of others is doing or will do in the coming weeks and months. This is just the beginning. Clearly, this president hasn't a clue what he is doing except to push his socialist type agenda.
Unfortunately, you're right, american vet. They really don't have a clue. And evidently, alot of people voted for them, and still blindly follow like sheep. I hope enough have woke up to see this before November, maybe then they can at least be kept in check till 2012.
Am Vet, how could he have a clue with no job experience behind him. The stupidity of the people who believed he was brilliant just because his promoters said he was. Where is the proof? His job record? His college scores?
He graduated from Havard Law School, was a comminuty orginizer, civil rights attorney, taught constitual law at the University of Chicago Law school. And I'm pretty sure he also was near or at the top of his class. All before he entered politics, and if you think that he and his "promoters" made all of that up.......... You frighten me.
Ireland has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the world. Unemployment hit 11% in March and will continue to climb. The previous administration cut taxes for the rich and we lost an estimated 5 million jobs. If you cut the tax rates for these corporations they don't create jobs they hand out bonuses to management for doing a good job because profit went up. How will cutting taxes for corporations that have no interest in creating jobs in our country because of all of the costs create more jobs. Should we do away with our child labor laws? Get rid of OSHA? Throw minimum wage in the crapper? These are the costs of living in a modern civilized society. It's a different world now you curmudgeonly types. We used to be worried about India taking all our jobs. The rise of the middle class and thier desire for decent wages has shifted that to SE Asia and China. China is having to crack down on it's citizens more and more because of the demand for worker's rights and some semblence of safeguards. Wages are growing at greater than a 25% year over year clip in some parts of the coast in that country.
Does anyone know whats happening with the clam chowda soup in the Rhode Island flood? I heard there would be less clams and more potatoes substituted!!
I guess the clam harvest is difficult in the flood! Anyone wanna chime in on the state of the Chowda?
No but the are a lot of chowderhead on here. A small positive, but at least it the right direction, Bush cost us 7 million jobs. 5m before he left office and 2m since. He did at least stave of total collapse. Even w is not stupid enough to believe in letting the market work. Where only 35 months from where we were on jobs when wtook office at this rate. Hope they build some better roads and rapid rail system in the north east. Oh and if you live in the south learn to speak Spanish.
This is not Ireland. How much of Ireland is industrialized? Yes, let's look at Ireland for the answers to the American economy; they're so much alike........................
The USA is no longer 'industrialized' The previous admins [ bush-clinton -bush]deregulated and gave tax cuts to corps and the rich --which sent jobs[7million] offshore and let the immigrants flood the country with cheap -labor...
Recovery from that rape of the American economy will not happen over night!
Lets look at what he did get done:
...So Barack Obama goes from minus 700,000 jobs a month to plus 162,000 a month in a year, effectively preventing a second great depression; He passes health care reform that will provide health insurance to tens of millions; A revolutionary student loans reform; Investing in the middle class more than any president since LBJ; Cut taxes to 95% of all Americans; Saving the financial system and bring the Dow from 6000 to 11000; Saving the entire Auto Industry; Passes a whole bunch of laws protecting ordinary citizens, including the Lilly Ledbetter Act and the Hate Crimes Bill; Investing in clean and renewable energy more than all the previous administrations combined; Ends the ban on Stem Cell Research; Stabilizing America's stance in the world and is about to sign arms control agreement with Russia - all this in 14 months and after receiving the country at the worst shape since FDR days.
Can't wait until November 2010 and 2012 thereafter to rid ourselves of the idiots in this administration. I hope Obama is classified as a "temporary worker", for the sake of our country. He is "1984" reincarnated.
PDub: If you paid taxes, you got a tax cut under Bush. In fact, many people who used to pay taxes, got a huge break in that they now get more back than they paid in, when you factor EIC into the equation.
People, people remember Obama can walk on water and he is the solution to every ill we have. Socialism has and does work perfectly every where and he knows we too need it. National debt into record areas in the short time he has screwed the country, and we will soon have all the benefits the other Socialist countries have. Super high income tax (Norway at 70%) combined with super low medical care: but there will be a increase in employement. We will need more to dig graves and transport all the Baby Boomers that are not allowed the surgical procedures to save their life (heart stints, bypass or open heart surgery) as it is their fault they aged and are a drag on his uptopia. When he kills off most of the early boomers, his group will be allowed to live as he is our great savior. B S
Given the Forbes article that many top corporations didn't pay sh## for taxes in 2008 or 2009 (GE for one. How? Domestic revenue is negative.....no tax, foreign revenue sky high..... tax permanently deferred), Obama still has to change the system to reflect a willingness to further protect the people, at the cost of corporate tax increase. Corporations need to feel the pinch for all the foreign windfall they're still gaining. IF the people don't like this, vote the other way. But, realize you'll still be unemployed, tax revenues will still be low, too low, and even lower, and spending will remain, if not increase.......just like 2000-2006. Furthermore, instead of fixing the problem, the GOP will again (as was the case wit Reagan and Bush) allow a manipulated system, where another real estate bubble can form. Last chance, then.
Obama, if he can show a viable plan to bring back jobs, will forever secure the Dems into the rightful places of leadership. The agendas fixed? Avoid a depression, repair and preserve state and local infrastructure, recreate health care, heal education, leave two wars, repair relations with strategic partners. The three that remain? Mexican Cartels, energy and job creation, and the quick marraige of the latter two.
If he does this, the economy expands, the money laid out is collected back.
That is one heck of a tall order, especially in 6 months. Would be nice to see Obama making some progress in these areas but I'm afraind he is just too hung on on health care.
Warprofiteer, higher corporate taxes just mean YOU pay more for goods and services. Any job 'created' by the gov't is paid for by higher taxes. If Obama wanted to help the economy he'd reverse course on almost all his current policies. He has created such uncertainty with regard to the deficit (future taxes), health care cost, cap & tax, energy and onerous regulation that no business person is willing to invest in our economy right now. If our gov't wanted to really help grow the economy they would grant themselves 3 years of vacation!! Oh, and don't start that 'see what happened under Bush' mess. Remember the .com bubble?? You can take every economic downturn and tie it directly to democratic mismanagement.
Uh, right. Tax the hell out of them. That will really make them start hiring thousands! LOL! And, the housing bubble that was caused by Barney Franks, Cris Dodd, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac! IS that what you mean? I hope we don't have many idiots like you that think that way. If we do, then we are burned toast!
just like the hc plan (april fools joke), at first glance, if i were in good health, i would pay the fine instead of buying hc. then pick it up if i had a problem. if i were providing hc for my workers, i would drop it and pay the fine;cheaper, and let them fend for themselves. result: lots of people without healthcare; until they need it, govt with a wad of cash and not providing anything for it. /businesses paying fines for nothing so then they could raise prices to cover fines instead of providing hc benefits for employees. employees having to buy their own hc or pay fines. sounds like a winner to me!!good job dems.
warprofiteer keep the liberal spin going bud, because its B.S. GE is in Obamas pocket, just like they are wholly tided to government contract, as for changing the American system you should really go back and read all the history, not just the liberal points, as for the housing bubble G.W. Bush and the republicans tried 17 times to stop this only to fail against a democratic led charge by who? Barney Franke, Chris Dodd and the rest fo the dems, if you think this president and i use that term loosely has done such great things than you are a true fool, obama has no viable plan to put the public back to work because the best place to work is the private sector not controlled by the government. this is against obamas master plan of socialism or marxism or whatever you want to call it, as for mexican drug cartels thats easy "ENFORCE THE BORDER" "MILITARIZE THE BORDER" anyone crossing gets 1 warning then so be it. as for energy obama again has no clue nor does have on true job creation, the recent opening of drilling areas is a sham at best while keeping areas known to hold vast easy deposits at bay. typical know nothing spouting the same prepared logic of mistruth.
Spoken like a true Socialist follower. Your solutions have never worked, However Kennedy and Reagan had and used a plan that improved the economy and employment. They both (one a Democrat and one GOP) reduced taxes to the businesses that hire people and creat product and to the wealthy (like Obama and the other millionaires in congress [read more Demo than GOP]) When these Presidents did reduce taxes we had growth, the LBJ's , Carters and Clintons of the world increased tax to the wealthy the economy flushed. Obama is ready to pull the handle and we will see the swirling of ouf jobs and nation down the drain. don't to forget to Seig Heil your leader.
warprofiteer Obama, if he can show a viable plan to bring back jobs, will forever secure the Dems into the rightful places of leadership. The agendas fixed? Avoid a depression, repair and preserve state and local infrastructure, recreate health care, heal education, leave two wars, repair relations with strategic partners. The three that remain? Mexican Cartels, energy and job creation, and the quick marraige of the latter two.
I already told you before on other Newsvine Posts about all of the above and the current administration has done nothing other than making the situations worse.
show a viable plan to bring back jobs
Nope did not solve the cause of US Jobs/US Manufacturing Losses. Great Depression Era unemployment was 25%, current calculations using same formula 20% and rising.
Avoid a depression
Nope. Did not eliminate those Laws that eliminated the Laws to prevent another 1907 Depression and 1929-1939 Great Depression.
repair and preserve state and local infrastructure
Cuts in Defense Appropriations Budgets for US Army Corps of Engineer Projects within US. Got to love the fact that this included dredging and rivers and streams. Current Floods. Previous cuts included upgrades, maintenance to Levees (Katrina, Congressional Hearings).
recreate health care
Payback to campaign contributors, not eliminating his quoted cause for the problems with Healthcare (Medical Profession), the Insurance Corporations. As payback using taxpayer money Insurance Corporations ($67 Billion + Millions of new suckers), Medical Device Industry ($20 Billion), Pharmaschutical Industry ($23 Billion). All while he gets real Medical Care for $42 per month (insurance corp eliminated) or free (taxpayer paid). And plans from Insurance Corporations on the "Exchanges" for Congress are NOT available to other Government Workers (another "special" deal only for Congress).
heal education
Nope, see all the School Closings. Teacher Layoffs.
leave two wars
Leave two wars, while creating two more. And cut and run from Iraq (no more Oil for you, China and the Russian Federation get it all + from Iran). Don't say Mexico and Canada they and Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc. have been Oil Laundrying from before the first Gulf War. As a matter of fact Canada is even doing oil shale processing to squeeze the last drops of oil out of rocks. This is why the President is reversing his campaign stance on "Drill Baby Drill".
repair relations with strategic partners.
Not a problem, China and the Russian Federation want the US out of the "Middle East" and he is doing it. No Oil for US, all for them. With China and Russian Federation providing weapons and technology to Iran. With Iran providing weapons and technology to all that want US out of "Middle East". This goes all the way back to the USSR backed Iranians during the Iran Iraq Wars.
Mexican Cartels
Nope. Direct opposite as stated April 2009 US President meeting with Mexican President, US Military will not be used to secure US Borders.
August 2009 US President meeting with Mexican President and Canadian Prime Minister, US Military will not be used to secure US Borders.
energy
Nope. He is Illinois Oil Refinery Lobby and Corn to Ethanol Lobby (research why this is not a solution but a problem).
Biden is Pennyslvania Coal Lobby and Delaware's "Mr. Corporate America" (near billions from each Corporation as to why US Supreme Court was "briefed", otherwise Obama/Biden Campaign becomes illegal, stuff just doesn't appear infront of the US Supreme Court for no reason.). McCain/Palin as not to be hypocritical adhered to the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (Law) aka McCain Feingold Law.
Keeps stating alternative energy while chopping the subsidies to the successful ones and giving the subsidies to his Lobbies. Ask Louisiana, Florida, Hawai'i about the chops they received to proven alternative energy. With their subsidies going to Illinois Corn Lobby for more High Frutose Corn Syrup.
job creation
Did not get rid of the problem and just made it worse.
President Obama, August 2009, Guadalajara, Mexico:
And immigration remained a sore spot. While Obama has said he'd like to start crafting an overhaul that legalizes millions of Mexican immigrants, there's little chance of Congress acting this year, since even top administration priorities like health care and climate policy are moving slowly amid heated partisan debate.
Example: Bankrupt Illegal Alien Harbor State of California spends over 10 Billion USD yearly of 85 Billion USD yearly budget on Ilegal Aliens as protected by La Raza (2009 California General Fund, this is trending to over 15 Billion for 2010). Illegal to ask Citizenship status so 1 Illegal Alien works 8 collect Public Assistance (2009 California Statistic, the current trend for 2010 is closer to 1 works 10 collect Public Assistance ratio).
The Leadership of Congress, Speaker of the House, Pelosi, "California is the model for all of the United States".
One thing I do agree with the President on. President Obama and Rahm Emanuel pertaining to the Selective Service aka "Draft", "US Citizenship is not an entitlement". So draft everyone, especially all the Corporate Executives, the Politicians sons and daughters (an not nominate them to US Military Academies, as currently done) throw them to the front line Combat Units of the US Army and USMC. Earn their US Citizenship as a Civic Duty.
good april fools joke warprofiteer and if it was not a joke, I hope you like stretching one can of dog food to last one whole week, as Great Depression Era Dog Food Stew.
How's the change going? I hoping all you folks that voted obama in are happy with the direction we are going. I guess if you happen to be out of work you understand that 15 months of healthcare was the most important thing to work on. I would of thought getting americans back to work was the #1 priority but I'm not the chosen one. Healthcare doesn't really kick in for 4 years. Fifteen months and now the pres is going around trying to sell his healthcare. So if all you unemployed can just hang on now why we sell the healthcare then we can start on jobs unless we need to work on cap&tax or immigration. You understand if you don't your a racist. If you can wait a few years we will have job openings for 16,000 new IRS agents and look at all the new goverment jobs healthcare will create. We just gain 162,000 new jobs. Didn't the Gov't census just start? How did Reagan do it ?
Reagan doubled the national Debt relative to GDP. He all so pass the largest tax raise in USA history. During his terms the size of government increased by 50%. So if you use Reagan Method Obama just has to spend $13,000,000,000,000. Increase federal revenue by 80%.
Most of the unemployed were let go by the companies that got the large "tax cuts" and TARP's. They let most of the employees go and shipped jobs overseas and gave out bonuses like "welfare cheese " to their CEO's. The everyday worker was patted on the back and showed the door. The rise in unemployment started before Obama and would have continued to rise if another Republican took office. Although most of you guys don't see it, we will look at Obama's message like Carter's and say what were we thinking.
BTW, Carter said we should live within our means and stop being so wasteful and dependent on oil. He was a one term president because America could handle the truth.
Corporations used to pay a much higher percentage of the federal budget, they got tax breaks and still lay people off. Enough with the trickle down con job. If you want to do business in the U.S. you pay your fair share of the freight.
SJC. . .You don't get it. . . .if could start a business and had your choice between two different places and in one place you get a much much cheaper tax rate where would you invest your money? Why can you people not see this? Corporations leave so they don't have to pay the crazy tax rates, employers SS, pension plans, or deal with unions. This is not 1900 it is 2010. The digital era is here and companies are no longer land locked and can move around the world just like you would choose to live in a place where the property taxes were much lower so that you would have a greater amount of your own money companies move to free up more capital. . . .insert your rant about "evil" companies and the poor working stiff here: ____________________________________________________
Where does it say that a corporations main office is also where they employ people. Why not have your corporate home in the safest most stable country in the world but then offshore all of your manufacturing to a corrupt 3rd world country that enslaves it's people. You reap all of the benefits of living in a civilized society supported by that countries tax payers but you don't have to worry about carrying your fair share of the debt. When you have completely depleted your home countries resources and marginalized the workers who cares you're still loaded and can go where you please. Where's the patriotism of the Wal-Marts of this country. If you enjoy the benefits of living in our civilized society then help support it. Don't hide your money in offshore accounts (167,000 people have come forward to avoid prosecution in the UBS case) and don't offshore your jobs to people who aren't in the market for your products to take advantage of 3rd world countries.
PDub, that is nice and idealistic. Reality, "Show me that Laws" (that this Administration has failed to even start). You mention Walmart. Ok, how about all those Walmart Vehicles that you buy from GM, Ford, Chrysler (US Corporations in name only, who do you think used their Lobbyists at Congress to get the Free Trade Agreements and Amendments passed, that made "Outsourcing" of US Jobs/US Manufacturing legal.).
SJC-1437429 why are you Backstabbing your buddy, "Mr. Corporate America" aka Delaware Senator Biden, now VP. With his major campaign contributors (nearly a Billion each) and constituents being:
(List from 2005) Delaware: Freddie Mac, Fanny Mae, Bank of America, Wilmington Trust, First USA / Bank One / JPMorgan Chase, AIG, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, Barclays plc, GM, Chrysler, Wachovia, ExxonMobil, Chevron, ISDA, and those States with Corporations Incorporated at Delaware.
Over 50% of US publicly-traded corporations and 60% of the Fortune 500 companies are incorporated in Delaware;[1] the state's attractiveness as a corporate haven is largely due to its business-friendly corporation law. Franchise taxes on Delaware corporations supply about one-fifth of its state revenue.[2]
1. Delaware Division of Corporations 2. Delaware Fiscal Notebook - State General Fund Revenues by Category
A. This is why the Democratic Party Controlled Congress passed the November December 2008 Billion USD Bailouts as "time sensitive" to buy the January 2009 Electoral College Votes. The January 2009 Electoral College Votes determine the US President and Vice President NOT your November 2008 vote.
B. The Billion USD Bailouts do nothing to pay for the 60-100 Trillion USD "Global Economic Crisis" (consisting of all the other "Crisises", like "Wall Street", "Mortgage", etc.) and the same people will cause the next "Crisis" of 54.6 Trillion USDs. With this administration not doing anything to stop the Causes and the only motive for the Billion USD Bailouts being as stated in A., above.
C. This is why the US Supreme Court was briefed on Unlimited Corporate Campaign Contributions. As stated before nothing appears for the US Supreme Court at random. If the US Supreme Court had decided the other way (against Unlimited Corporate Campaign Contributions) the Obama/Biden Campaign would have been declared as Illegal (negating the current Administration). This is also why the Obama/Biden Campaign did not adhere to the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (Law) otherwise they could not receive near Billions from each Corporation. Your $3000 donation only pays for one of thousands of Campaign Offices for one day. As mentioned before also so as not to be hypocrites the McCain/Palin Campaign adhered to the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act since it is also known as the McCain Feingold Act (Law).
Before you say no, no, no to the above do the research.
David I drive a 97 Nissan pathfinder, my wife an 05 Toyota Corrolla. If the domestic car companies want my dollars they have to build a more reliable, economical, safer car. Be careful pointing a finger at the Dems because you'll have three pointing back at you. I only remember one candidate "suspending" his campaign in order to get back in time to vote on this time sensitive legislation signed by a Republican President. Where was the party of NO then? And c is so much of a stretch that I'm not even going to comment further on it. I watched your videos and in both they talk of both parties, not just the one who won the election.
Must say I'm pretty impressed with Obama's multitasking ability. He's been able to juggle multiple wars, financial market failures, HC reform, DADT reform, job creation... I can't think of one president in the last 2 generations who's accomplished more (and kept more campaign promises) in so little time.
What good has Herr Obama done per factchecker? Unemployment up, home forclosure up, future down the river, majority of America angry with the adminsitration and you think this fool is good for the nation? Do you work or are you a government employee? If the government makes it hard to create a profit in the USA you are damn sure to move out of country to stay in business. If the Obama idea is so good and his socialism is the best for us, why did his model fail,Russia?
USSR was communist. Do you work Ray or do you just vomit up whatever Rush feeds you. James laid out what has been accomplished by this administration thus far. If the companies move out of this country where would they go that would be more fertile ground. Russia? China? Mexico?
I try not to be too critical of our President as I understand that a lot of what happens in Washington is determined by our Congress and Senate but this guy just doesn't stop campaigning. He isn't trying to create jobs to benefit Americans just like he wasn't trying to create a Health Care reform bill that would benefit Americans. He did it to benefit his image. He just seems more concerned about himself and his image than he is about the plight that America finds herself in today.
Oh he pretends to care, just the other day he said something about off shore drilling. What he didn't metion was that he was exploring the idea of offshore drilling, that will never happen because the EPA won't let it, and he really will only explore the idea if cap and tax gets passed.
The united states is pretty much the only country in the world that has an abunace of oil, coal, and natural gas but won't use it, and thus depends on other countries for it? How does that make sense?
But hey we are going full bore with Wind energy, which basically costs a fortune, we again have to go overseas to get the parts, and runs at about 10% capacity. On top of the fact that we have to build huge wind farms on the land.
Wow, how does this not sound a like a good ideas? note the sarcasm
obamas idea of job creation is govt grants (tax and spend) and programs that will create short term jobs(gone when the grant runs out) but totally controlled by the govt. "dont worry, look at what the govt has done for you, given you jobs". along with stumping for the health bill he shoved thru with no rep or ind votes, w/noone reading or understanding what it would do or how it would be implemented. total govt control bs. i'm telling you, there will be hell to pay b4 this criminal pulls off this bs.
Tom, give me your address and I'll be sure to let you and your neighbors know when we will start drilling for oil and gas in your neighborhood. Oh wait, nobody wants an oil derrick in their neighborhood and we ensure our duly elected reps are aware of it. Do you burn coal in your furnace at home. Why not, are you some sort of tree hugging environmentalist?
I have a natural gas furnace at home. Why? because that is what came with the house, and seems to be the cheapest way to heat my house. I live in MN, and if having oil pumps around the city I live in brings down the cost of my energy I will be for it. I haven't heard of too many alaskans bitching about not having a state income tax and still getting money back at the end of the year.
PDub. . . .wrong. . .I would love them to find a HUGE oil reserve right under my house and then pay me MILLIONS to buy me out. . .isn't it the dream of the Clampet's????
Tom, is wind energy combustible now? If the oil begins to seep into your drinking water are you ok with that. Wood as a fuel source used to be cheaper than oil or natural gas why isn't that the major player any more? Oh yeah, because it's unsustainable and we progressed to the next generation of fuel. Well let's just stop there and when the oil and gas runs out we'll start working on the problem then. Come on man. My point is we all want cheap energy but we don't want to go back to the 70's and early 80's when the whole town stunk like sulphur, the rivers would catch on fire, and visibility was nill because of all the soot in the air.
If congress would pass some sort of legislation that would make it attractive for companies to bring back outsourced jobs it would go a long way toward healing the economy. They won't do it though, because they don't want to upset their lobbyists. That is both dems and repubs.
kirby, this country and the rest of the world has become accustomed to the prices reflected in slave labor manufacturing. There is no way the average consumer would be willing to pay the necessary sums in order to bring yesterdays jobs back here. We need to lead the world in the high tech jobs of tomorrow not the low tech jobs of yesterday. Let me know when you are willing to pay $25 for an undershirt or $5 for a pair of athletic socks. I'll be glad to sell them to you and will use part of my profit to pay someone to cut my grass right here in the usa. I'm patriotic like that.
PDub - Let me know when you are willing to pay $25 for an undershirt or $5 for a pair of athletic socks.
I previously posted the solution to this, with the solution being opposed in writing by the US Labor Unions. With the US Labor Unions Lobbyists going to Congress to stop the implementation of a US Military "experiment" that would have decreased the risks of deaths of US Civilian Union Workers at Nationwide Dispersed Government Owned Government Operated (GOGO) and Government Owned Contractor Operated (GOCO) Ammunition Manufacturing Plants/Factories and neighboring towns and cities. This solution would have decreased the production costs for your example of undershirt to $1.00, and .50 cents for a pair of athletic socks. The people previously at the (now closed) Levi's Plant at Georgia know what I am talking about. Also Lean Six Sigma and the teachings (Principles) of W.E. Deming.
This US Military DARPA "experiment" was implemented in another country and then turned over to that country and is currently still profitting (huge profits, part of their GNP).
msnbc is at it again. "hoping that will help Democrats gain favor with voters after a bruising, yearlong battle with Republicans over health care." It wasn't the Repub's standing in the way. It was the fight between the Progressive Dem's against the moderate Dem's. Gotta luv msnbc
Wouldn't it be nice if someone voiced an opinion of their own, instead of parroting the right-wing drivel that comes from Rush Limbaugh and Rupert Murdock?
How much of the economic debacle that we're trying to dig our way out of pre-dates Barack Obama's taking office in January of 2009?
How many of the jobs outsourced to India and China were exported after January of 2009?
How much of the actual debt (not projected or predicted, but ACTUAL DEBT that the country owes right now) was run up after January of 2009?
Blaming Barack Obama for the economic and political disaster that resulted from the incompetence and stupidity of his predecessor is ridiculous. Some folks clearly need to learn to read a calendar, so they can realistically assess responsibility for the utter failures of the previous eight years.
Is there anyone out there who really believes the economy of this country is worse off today than it was in January of 2009? Is there anyone out there who really believes that a stable unemployment rate is worse than a sky-rocketing unemployment rate? Is there anyone out there who really believes that a growth of 160,000 jobs is worse than losing a couple hundred thousand?
He (Obama) was the one that wanted the job and said he could fix the problems. I remember the MSM wanted to have him start putting his fixes to the economy before Bush left so we could get a jump start on the problem. Then he got in to office and it was all about HC. Now after waiting a year and a half he may look into it?
yes, there are people out here that believe all those things. AMERICANS!! we just dont happen to be "free lunchers" like yourself. we believe that you should not have a bib on and need to be spoon fed and have your diaper changed, and have the govt take EARNED INCOME away from working people to give to you so you can sit on your fat ass and do nothing. read me on that, over.
I'm with you Dr. Tom. However, others are caught in the Tea Party Foxpublican Echo Chamber and don't want the country to succeed under this leadership. They would rather see the current administration fail than actually govern and lead the country out of this mess. That's un-American.
It will take creative, innovative, forward thinking Americans to get us out of this. Most of the 8 Million jobs lost are gone for good. I have faith that enterprizing Americans will create opportunities for new jobs. I for one am working towards this goal.
For your uneducated opinion, I don't listen the Limbaugh or any other radical right or lefty. I listen to the works coming out of the Socialist Obama and his gang's mouth. "we won't know what is in the plan until it passes"! this "president" has not listened to the people that elected him, and forced a bad piece of legislation on the public and is surprised we are angry. Obama hasn't figured the campaign is over, he spends his time trying to get us to like the bill no one in DC has read or understands, even him. If this guy is the best for America, we are doomed. Stop vomiting back the garbage from the left and try thinking. Not everyone that thinks Obama is garbage is a "Right wing radical". Just every Democrat during the Viet Nam war were not Jane Fonda traitors. Use your mind and think for yourself and for the benefit of the real Americans (not the illegal mexicans).
The economy is secondary to this president and it will remain so. His first priority is his ideology of socialism and government growth. Control over the public is his goal. Work on the economy? Maybe down the road after he feels that he has all the socialism that he can get. Upcoming elections and the defections in congress will upset more and more of his plans. Obamas talk and promises of jobs and oil production is just smoke and mirrors....talk about it because the public wants it, but dont actually do it.....he wants those tax increases and penalties in place for those who dont accept his socialism and rules....
At this point it doesn't matter what the President says and what Congress does. These people have placed the needs of the American people behind their own agendas for long enough. IMO, it's time to vote every one of them out of office. It's time we show the government that we do have a voice and they better start listening to it.
This reminds me of a sketch that used to be on "MadTV" called "Lowered Expectations." Obama's presidency will be known as the Era of Lowered Expectations. Anyone who thinks that 9.7 unemployment is good in anyway, especially since Obama promised nothing higher than 8.5%, is truly drunk on Obama's kool-aid.
Excuse me.... "Now after waiting a year and a half....."
Waiting? How about having to fight through a resounding year-and-a-half -long chorus of NO! from Republicans.
The only way Obama could honestly be accused of unnecessarily waiting is to realize that trying to get Republicans to agree to anything at all was a waste of his (and our) time. They swore to delay and obstruct - and that's exactly what they did.
That is hardly the fault of the guy who reached out to them in an effort to work together to solve the problems that already existed when he took office.
The Dem's had control of both houses so it did not matter what the Repub's did or did not do. The fight was between the Dem's on HC. So please stop regurgitating the lefty lines.
DoctorTom, you mean the Democrats were obstrusting the Democrats, I mean, really, the battle over who would be first in line at the pig-trough of pork, bribes, kickbacks, and special concessions for the unions ???
Yeah, with the Dems having a supermajority, the Republicans did a lot of obstructing ! Oh wait, I forgot, it was George Bush's fault.......somehow, someway, surely it was......
This whole economic sh*t storm absolutely started on GWBs watch, and stop trying to act like the republican admin had nothing to do with it. Economy was FREE FALLING in OCT 08. and GWB instututed bank bail outs, something the right likes to conveniently forget. The next statment is that everything wrong with the economy was Fannie and Freddie's fault, right? Who had supermajority for 6 years and could have fixed or prevented that? Correct, the Republicans. So, in 18 months, the freefall that clearly incubated and began under GWB has been stopped, but people are complaining that the gravy days of 06/07 aren't back so the pitchforks are being sharpened. Guess what, 06/07 financial lunacy is not coming back for a very long time, THANK GOODNESS.
The entire sh*t storm, as you put it, started when the democrats took control of congress in 2007. The housing crisis was compliments of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, both democrats. Trying educating yourself before you spout off.
Just like a socialist mentality to call the GOP the party of NO. the GOP no's were to protect the nation from the socialist move of Obama. This leftist thinking is if it is anti-Obama it is evil, pro Obama - good. It the NO was bad, why are 70% of the American public angry with Obama's forced martch to socialism and poor medical care. The GOP and America wanted reform, just not this socialist agenda Obama has put us on. Open your eyes and for once in your life think for yourself. Obama is not the god/savior your think he is. Job creation is not temp jobs that will never qualify for Obama care EVER. Part time not covered and the employers will have to go to part time employees to stay in business, that or get the hell out or dodge with the jobs. Thanks Herr Obama stalin
Uh, yea right. What did you get your doctorate in, Stupidness? Yea, they said NO! No to jumping off a cliff, No to higher taxes, higher unemployment, NO to this insane healthcare crap. NO to cap and tax, NO to Illegal aliens,No to shafting the independent car dealers, No to corrupt organizations like ACORN that did receive our tax dollars, On and on. His idea was to tell the Republicans what he is going to do and for them to take it and like it. PERIOD! That is his idea of bipartisianship. As far as I am concerned they can keep telling him NO until hell freezes over! Come NOvember we will tell him NO again! I think the vast majority of moderates that were suckered in and voted for this chicago crook will wake up and tell him NOBAMA ! I am sure that this conservative libertian will.
The republicans said no to healthcare because it was and is a bad bill. They were doing what their constituents wanted them to do. The reason a lot of people are upset with the current adminisration is that they have done next to nothing to create an atmosphere where jobs will be created in the private sector.
They spent all their time and resources on health care and only health care. Obama is still out doing campaign speeches for a bill that already passed.
And Obama did not reach out to the repubs. He basically said "here is the bill, like it or not." The repubs had some ideas, but none of them were included. Maybe you like the trial lawyers, and for sure the dems do, but most of us would have been thrilled with tort reform. You see that anywhere? You see insurance companies allowed to cross state lines? It wasn't just the repubs saying no.
The dems have had control of congress for 4 years and the white house for 18 months. Time to put up or shut up. Nobody buys into the blame Bush stuff anymore except apologists for the dems failure to act.
wrong kirby. Obama reached out to republicans many, many times. It was the repubs who rejected constructive policy-making in favor of partisan politicking. They intended to humiliate Obama with a health care loss, to create his Waterloo, instead of doing something to help citizens. The repubs have instead created their own Waterloo. If they want to rebound, they need to promote something, instead of promote 'No'.
James, please tell us of these "many times" that Obama has "reached out" to Republicans. Obama has never constructively worked with anyone he disagrees with in his entire political life. His sham of a "health care summit" after both houses had already voted on legislation was an embarrassment for himself and his administration. The fact that he had to bribe and threaten his own party to pass a bill without needing any republican support is a testament to his poor leadership skills and his blatent partisan agenda.
Amf1211, given the 60+ republican amendments that made into the bill, including the republican-introduced mandatory insurance coverage (short memory, eh?), are some of the tangible evidence of bipartisan gestures.
The "health care summit" was a final olive branch, which republicans once again refused.
The fact that Obama is the only president in over 2 generations to make progress on health care reform is testament in itself to his tremendous leadership prowess.
Actually, amf1211... I'm a medical doctor in San Diego, and only started following online debates with the discussion of health care. I support the health care reform, but don't think it went far enough. At least it was a step in the right direction!
The "health care summit" became a show, because the republicans offered nothing but 'No'.
The "health care summit" was nothing more than a "SHOW". Sorry, but everyone in America knows this. Barack Obama did most of the talking, he appointed himself as "impartial moderator" (what a joke), and Republican ideas were only given about 34% of the total time. The summit was a glorified "dog and pony" show, and, within 48 hours or less, the controversial "reconciliation" (meant for budget reconcilition issues) was in motion.
Single payer was dropped to Public Option which then changed to Insurance Pool / Mandatory coverage. Which party do you think really wanted corporations to be involved with HC reform? Sure looks like a big portion of what Republicans wanted actually got into the bill. But then again, according to republicans nothing was really wrong with HC to begin with, that a little Tort Reform and interstate insurance shopping couldn't have fixed correct?
James - "The "health care summit" was a final olive branch, which republicans once again refused."
Thank goodness! The Republicans did something right! Now let's hope they will continue to listen to the majority of Americans (of all parties), who don't support this bill or other gov't attempts at more control.
Facts are facts, James. Regardless of what the Republicans did or did not do, the Democrats could not get this crapper passed without slugging it out with one another. How shameful and (one would think) embarrassing for them - not something that inspires ANY confidence.
That in-fighting thing is NOT a sign of party unity or anything else that could be interpreted as positive. Those of us who can think for ourselves and manage our own decisions will continue to oppose the parental role this congress and president have taken. Can't wait for November.....!
Face the facts James-1124846 I know that you are NOT a Doctor (MD) or you would have NEVER wanted to be completely subjegated to the Insurance Corporations. Yeah, thats right the Medical Profession being subjegated to the NON Medical Profession Insurance Corporations. And since you are NOT a Medical Professional based on what you posted, the simple explanation, Medical Malpractice Insurance, that makes the Medical Profession a non profitable career (to the extent even the foreign Medical Professionals on visas are leaving, AFTER this Insurance Scam was signed into Law.). This is not to mention after this became Law, many Medical Professionals are not going to accept Medicare or Medicaid, and many Medical Professionals are leaving the Medical Profession or going to other Countries (including entering the US Military).
The fact that Obama is the only president in over 2 generations to make progress on health care reform is testament in itself to his tremendous leadership prowess.
More baloney. President FDR eliminated the Insurance Corporations out of Health Care (Medical Profession) during the Great Depression with the result of Real Universal Health Care when nobody had money and 25% Unemployment:
Decreases cost 80% (last part of video) by Doctor David Ores, New York.1:45
President Obama, Face the Nation, September 20, 2009
Obama: No, the difference is that they're making huge profits on it, Bob. I mean, let's take the Medicare HMO programs that are being run by insurance companies. It's estimated by everybody that they're overcharging by about 14 percent. This amounts to about $177 billion over 10 years. About $17 billion a year, $18 billion a year. That's just going to pad their profits, hasn't been shown to make Medicare recipients any healthier. And in fact because those huge subsidies are going to insurance companies, Medicare recipients are not getting a good deal. Now if we are enforcing what should be the rules around Medicare and making sure the people are getting a bang for the buck, it's not going to be possible for insurance companies to simply pass on those costs to Medicare recipients because ultimately it's Uncle Sam that's paying for those services anyway.
(guess who Uncle Sam is, duh, yeah that's right all US Taxpayers).
So the President knows about the big bad Insurance Corporations.
Rewards the Insurance Corporations ($67 Billion), Medical Device Industry ($20 Billion), and Pharmaceutical Industry ($23 Billion) for Campaign Contributions (for November 2010 Elections).
THE PRESIDENT'S PROPOSAL February 22, 2010 (in the Law)
Page 3-4. Mandatory Insurance, fined or jail (more suckers for the Insurance Corporations to deny claims)
Page 10.: "Like the drug industry, the health insurance industry stands to gain as more Americans get coverage."
Page 10. "The medical device industry also stands to gain from expanding health insurance coverage."
Page 9. "Both policies will result in new revenue for the pharmaceutical industry."
BY GETTING THE INSURANCE CORPORATIONS OUT OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION
What Congress Gets:
"We're able to access that health care 24 hours a day when we're in Washington," Graham said, leading us to the Attending Physician's Office, a clinic inside the U.S. Capitol. They don't even have to leave the office.
About half of the members of Congress, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, use the Attending Physician benefit. For $42 a month, they can get all the primary care they need - physical therapy, X-rays, minor surgery, specialists and a pharmacy for emergencies - no appointment needed.
They also get VIP hospital treatment from the best doctors at Bethesda Naval Hospital. And they have a reserved spot at the elite Ward 72 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where the late Sen. Strom Thurmond spent a lot of time.
Outpatient care is free. Well, free for them. Your tax dollars pick up the cost.
The Hypocrisy is that the late Senator Kennedy of whom the Democratic Party refer to as the champion of this so called Health Care Reform used the Medical Services listed above for $42 per month. As well as Bethesda Naval Hospital (reference New Media footage of his departure after treatment at Bethesda).
BY GETTING THE INSURANCE CORPORATIONS OUT OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION:
Decreases cost 80% (last part of video, 1:40) by Doctor David Ores, New York.1:45
THIS CRAP IS ALL ABOUT THE PAYBACK TO THE INSURANCE CORPORATIONS FOR CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS!!!!!!!!! AND NOT REAL HEALTH CARE REFORM (MEDICAL PROFESSION).
House speaker will keep money from 'villains', Pelosi called insurers 'immoral,' despite receiving funds from industry.
We want what they have for $42 per month. Not this Insurance Scam (mandatory purchase of Insurance, more suckers for denial of claims).
If it is good enough for the President, Vice President, Speaker of the House, Senator Max Baucas, Congress, and all those trying ram something up our arses that they will never use (be screwed over by).
James-1124846 please provide references for your supposed "facts". And if you are a real Medical Doctor the amount you pay for Medical Malpractice Insurance.
Obama is doing a fantastic job, especially given the crap Bush dumped him with!
He avoided the catastrophic failure of the financial markets, which was the most urgent priority of his new presidency.
He is the only president to successfully move health care reform, which will reduce the single greatest cause of individual bankrupcy in the US (medical bills).
He has gained the respect of the international community and is restoring the stature of America in the eyes of the world.
Sure he's not perfect, but he's doing an amazing job! This coming from a lifelong republican, who switched to democrat after the last president.
He wanted the job and knew about all the crap that he was about to wade into. Now it is time to stop blaming some one else and get the job done. Pointing fingers does nothing.
You're exactly right, tkooo.... and getting the job done is exactly what Obama is doing!
And Amf1211, no president in 2 generations has accomplished so much and kept so many campaign promises in so little time. Factchecker has tracked over 100 kept campaign promises to date... the most of any president in the same time frame.
You mean like that promise of keeping unemployment under 8.5%? Or the one about closing GITMO? I'd go on, James, but it's apparent that reality and the truth is lost on you.
If he has gained the respect of the international community, then why is he a laughing stock in Europe? The only 'leaders' that like him are the dictators like Chavez and Castro. Iran is going ahead with their nuclear armament plans. That doesn't sound like he and the US are respected to me.
Also, the financial markets have not reflected the reality of Main Street USA for a while. Property values are falling and Investment portfolios for retirement have taken major hits and do not look to be truly recovering, but the 'too big to fail' banks have sure made a killing.
Amf1211, check factchecker... Obama's accomplishments are impressive, and just because he hasn't achieved all his goals yet, doesn't mean they won't be done... he's still in the first half of his presidency after all.
Obama is very, very well respect in Europe, far more than he is here Tammy. Have you traveled there lately, or just regurgitating RNC buzz?
tkooo, transparency isn't one of the 100 that I saw, but given all the discussions and debates and remarkable participation in the health care debate throughout its entire process... I'd say he's doing far better than expected.
As far as lobbyists go, I agree that's a problem, especially when everyone is getting paidoff in Washington, republican and democrat alike.... who's left to choose from? lol
Who forced the transparency in the health care debate, James? Not dems or the pres who wanted this done in less than two weeks.
As for Obama being "well respected" in europe. I guess when French leaders call him "weak" that's supposed to be a compliment, now.
I knew liberals were known for rewritting history and creating their own reality, but James, you've created a comedy hour. I've been trying to back up your "statements" but haven't been able to find one.
see post 20.6 amf1211, shall I continue? And in my last trip to Europe, I found more support for Obama than we have here! I think you've been skewed by RNC talking points?
Exactly, Scott... fewer of my patients will be forced into bankruptcy just to get medical care... this health care reform is good for patients, and all of us since we're all one moment from being a patient ourselves. We all have much to gain.
The one thing buttcrack obammie is doing a fantastic job of is destroying the demoncrap party. Never before has America's internal enemies been so clearly defined. He has disgraced the country, bowing before rulers of other countries, apologized for things which America is not guilty, committed acts of treason, granted terrorist the rights once reserved for American citizens, left our borders open for invasion by illegal immigrants and wiped his feet on the constitution. In fact the only achievement for good that can be attributed to this monstrous mistake is the destruction he has reaped upon demoncraps.
The man has no experience managing even a hot dog stand before taking over the banking and automotive industry. He insults our allies and reinforces our enemies. He has never met a tax he didn't adore. He has absolutely no idea what he is doing but according to some idiots he is amazing. Well I must agree. It is amazing that someone so incompetent can be allowed to continue to drive this once great country into bankruptcy. It is amazing that someone this corrupt is allowed to remain at large while small time crooks remain in jail. It is amazing that one person can tell the same lies over and over again while maintaining a audience of brain dead followers.
Even with all of this buttcrack offers America hope. Hope that we will be castrated in November 2010. Hope that he will be voted out of office in 2012. Hope that there will be a country at that time. Hope that this in 2012 sane voters will out number the parasites.
He has support in Europe but he doesnt in the country who pays his paycheck.......doesnt that bother you just a little. I could give a damn less what europe thinks of Mr. Obama. They dont pay my bills do they pay yours? Time for him to quit trying to be a superstar and quit lying.
James, you claim to be a Medical Doctor, I don't believe you. How much do you pay in Malpractice insurance and have you ever had a claim? do you actually believe socialized medicine will get better care to the Public? i grew up in a Doctor's family, and I saw him have to pay monthly more than the average American made for insurance. Are you aware Obama's socialized medical care does nothing to protect you from someone sueing you for a procedure you did correctly when it is improved later? What is you field on medicine? Are you willing to take a cut in pay with the same financial risk under Obama's plan. In my area we have had a Dr. recently close his practice because the amount he got from Medicare and the State did not cover his expenses. We lost a good Dr becuase of poor payments to him. Under the Obama plan this is just the start, wonder how long you can stay in practice making not enough to pay your bills. You claim to be a Doctor, yet you seem to believe poor care is better than what we get now.
Ray-1162980 - James, you claim to be a Medical Doctor, I don't believe you. How much do you pay in Malpractice insurance and have you ever had a claim?
Careful Ray-1162980 I got suspended for two weeks for proving that Newsvine poster schoolteacher was not a schoolteacher.
You conveniently forget that half of the Senate committee who wrote the health care bill were NOT Democrats. Or, maybe you really didn't know that?
Have you heard of Joseph Lieberman, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins?
Lieberman quit the Democratic party and aligned himslef with Republicans to campaign for John McCain, and Senators Snowe and Collins are definitely Republicans.
Those folks took months putting together the Senate Health Care bill.
That bill was definitely not, as you say, given to Republicans with a "Here is the bill - like it or not".
They wrote it!
"Nobody buys into the blame Bush stuff...."
What you really should say is "nobody who gets all of their news from Limbaugh and Murdock buys into...... "
Of course, the folks who get their news from Limbaugh and Murdock are the same people who thought the Iraq war was a great idea, and that outsourcing jobs to China and India was wonderful, and that tax cuts for the richest 2% of Americans was a stroke of genius.
And, all of those failures contributed greatly to the economic mess that the right-wingers are trying to blame on Barack Obama.
The final bill that came out of the senate bore no resemblance to the original and you know it. By the way, Lieberman was a life long dem who was kicked to the curb by his own party and ran and won as an indpendent. He caucuses with the dems. Snowe and Collins voted against the bill because it wasn't what the commitee wrote.
As far as the war goes, your dems voted for it. Do the names Clinton, Kerry, etc mean anything?
I don't listen to Limbaugh and I don't watch Oberman. But I'll bet you do.
And if you're going to give credit for the ecomony, remember the stimulus was started by the Bush admin.
kirby, you're mistaken... huge portions of the final health care bill were written by republicans. The republicans attacked the bill and Obama on pure politicking grounds, not policy grounds.
There were over 60 amendments, 62 perhaps, written specifically by republicans? I read the article on CNN, but sure you could find it as well. Surprisingly not counted among them was the idea of mandatory insurance, which was a republican idea a decade ago, which they flipped on.
please provide some evidence to back that up. I'm just trying to figure out why Obama himself didn't toute this ammendments as "repulican ideas." then again, I'm assuming that what you actually said was true. How silly of me...
Here's the first few I found, amf1211... shall I continue?
Review a few of the Republican initiatives included in legislation passed by Congress:
Includes personal responsibility incentives: Allows health insurance premium to vary based on participation in proven employer wellness programs

Even your great Obama and Hillary clinton thought the Iraq war was good and voted for it. Typical Dem memory, Iraq had WMD, or how did he kill millions of Kirds? You keep spouting theleft wing ideas that are WRONG. The Dems claim 2 Repb. that got paid oy Obama to vote against the will of the people are not proof that both parties wrote the Health(?) care(?) bill (note Obama signed it before it had legally passed BOTH houses [note not by the legal 60 votes or 2/3 majority] because he knew it would FAIL in both houses) As usual the left remembers fiction as fact and turn a great nation to a failing nation under socialist leadership.
the doctor gets his news from cnn,anyone see the clip of rick sanchez pointing to islands off s america and saying here is hawaii.and they laugh at the silly things palin says.this happened just after the earthquake in chile.
Lieberman quit the Democratic party and aligned himslef with Republicans to campaign for John McCain, and Senators Snowe and Collins are definitely Republicans
actually doc the democratic party quit him. check it out.
In his Good Friday campaigning (we're not even safe from his lies on a religious day!), Obama said, "his aggressive — if unpopular — policies helped add jobs." Of course, any good news is because of The One; it's always all about The One except when things go wrong. I found it humorous that during his speech yesterday, he used his normal sarcasm saying that the poll numbers hadn't moved yet after the healthcare bill passed - but it had only been a week. He got his expected laughter. He ridicules when he loses, as Alinsky taught. But the truth is related in this same article: "many of the 162,000 new jobs went to temporary Census workers. And more than 40 percent of those without jobs have been unemployed for more than six months." The federally-employed temporary census workers aren't going to help with unemployment - we need PRIVATE jobs that pay taxes not government jobs that take our tax dollars! The Arrogant Narcisstic One lies constantly and assumes we don't notice or we don't care. He believes we'll forgive him and belive his lies when November comes around - not so. He's done and those that follow him are also done. We're awake and we're angry and we aren't going to stand by and let this arrogant, obnoxious liar take over our country, our Constitution and our way of life.
Actually James, another 40,000 of those are temp jobs not affiliated with thecensus. This of course should be viewed at the same time as the 439,000 new claims for unemployment and the increasing (or getting worse) underemployment rate.
The rest 90,000 were temp, 40,000 Gub'mint and 23,000 real.
1 new real job for every 20 we loose. Good job President Crackhead. We are turning the corner. Please pass the crack pipe.
I'd be interested to know as well, James. If there was anything in this bill that was bipartisan, the dems would be crowing about it. They aren't because there is next to nothing in the bill that was crafted by the repubs. And it was obviously not that great in the first place since Reid had to bribe other senators to get their votes. A bad bill, poorly written and passed solely so dems could say, "well we did something".
62 amendments in a 2700 page bill isn't what I would call co writing.
Funny James, but the 26 year old on their parents plan is being touted by the dems as their idea and one of the "biggies" in the bill. So which is it?
The things you list, other than that, are not huge by any stretch of the imagination. What about the other 2650 pages?
You can list all 62 amendments and it won't change the fact that this is dem bill and they will live or die on it in November. Right now they're on life support or the President wouldn't be out giving campaign speeches about it.
Kirby, I think you've confused dems 'touting the bill' and dems 'touting their ideas in the bill'. And in the earlier post I just included the first 5 republican amendments I came across, if I were to include all 60+, it would overwhelm the thread. Do some research on your own, if you're curious. The searches are easy enough. As far as pagination goes, a summary bulletpoint here is equal to many, many pages of detailed explanation. I read the entire bill, which was a daunting task.
dems are trying and attempting to ATTRIBUTE large parts of it to the republicans?
Why is this?
Sorry the fact the DEMS are trying to attribute large parts of this bill to the GOP and GOP POLS....shows they know its a bad bill and its going to remain unpopular..
Unemployment remained at 9.7% so no change at all. But if he wants credit for it lets give it to him nice to hear no blame on previous administrations.
It's actually at 22%, this is big friggen lie is what it is. Current unemployment reporting methodology adjusted for SGS-estimated long-term discouraged workers, who were defined out of official existence in 1994. Clinton changed the way they calc the numbers. Go to ShadowStats.com and you will see.
Chronic Unemployment of at or near 10% is a chronic condition of the EURO SOCIALIST model the dems are trying copy.
DEMS like euro socialist are willing to live with 10% unemployment as long as they can create the socialist programs to support the Unemployed they help create..
I know what the true numbers are but just on their own method of reporting there was no change worth mentioning. Just nice to see him taking credit for something and when this fails he can only blame himself. Wait until gas prices get to the 3.50 to 4 dollar range they have done nothing to save us from that.
Again the white house does not tell the whole story:
The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks and over) in- creased by 414,000 over the month to 6.5 million. In March, 44.1 percent of unemployed persons were jobless for 27 weeks or more.(http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm)
I am sure the record number of people who have lost their jobs and all of the blood suckers who are sucking their future generations out of a future are extreemly happy with the SPENDBAMA administration.
I can't wait until each and every one of you are voted out of office and shamed as the worst administration this country will ever experiance in their lifetimes.
When you consider that Snowe, Collins and Lieberman did indeed work on th e writing of the bill (clearly covered in great detail by the news media - including FOX News -during the process...
....and that there were sixty-two Republican amendments in the bill....
Doesn't it seem to be just a little ridiculous, and plainly disingenuous, to insist that this was a bill foisted on the world by Democrats with no involvement by Republicans?
Nice spin Dr. Tom...What part of the bill? How many pages? Wasn't what they did part of the committee they were on? Do you know how much was actual Repub input or were they just there at the scene of the crime? I am not sure..but maybe you have more insight..
Snow and Collins voted against the final bill because what was originally written wasn't what was passed. Snow and Collins both vote with the dems a lot so they obviously weren't happy with the final version. Lieberman has always voted with the dems except on the war. He is not and has never been a repub. If the bill was so great why did Reid have to bribe other senators to pass it through the senate?
62 amendments on a 2700 page bill is not bipartisan. It is a sham.
It is disingenuous to say that this is any way shape or form a republican bill. The dems are going to have to sink or swim on this in November. Right now they are drowning.
Kirby, each amendment included many, many pages of detailed explanation, so its incorrect to assume that there are 62 pages of republican information, and 2600 pages of democratic information.
However, you are correct in not calling this a 'republican bill', despite significant portions being republican. The reason is... Democrats got it done! It would have been nice if one of the many republican administrations of the last two generations could have done something about the health care problem.
You're right James. They got it done. They got it done by bribery and vote buying, but they got it done.
Now we'll see if the American people are happy with the end result. It is a given that the dems will lose seats in November, off year elections always do that. It will be telling to see how many seats they lose. Right now, it looks like they will lose their house majority. Would you agree that if that happens that it would be a referendum on the bill? I would if it turns out the other way.
Don't get me wrong. I am unhappy with the repubs as well, but they aren't responsible for this bill.
Good point, kirby. I'm not sure whether the economy or health care will play more of a factor in November voting. We'll find out when we get there, I guess!
If the economy hasn't gotten better by November you'll probably see a landslide for the repubs. I understand the stock market is stable, etc, but the reality is, the meat and potato issues like jobs and foreclosures and the inablity to get credit, are what will drive the elections. If there hasn't been discernable progress on those fronts the dems are in deep trouble.
Even if the public is okay with health care they will vote their pocket books. At the moment they are broke and somebody stole their wallets.
The stock market may be stable for now, but have you watched the bond market which is a good indication that things aren't good at all and a harbinger of what is to come.
He has to, there has got to be employed people to pay for the health care bill that he just passed. Nothing like putting the cart before the horse!
Aright! He's going to push job creation. Yippee!
And it only took fifteen months and a midterm election looming over the dems heads in November.
Obama. You truly are the worst president of my lifetime.
Not impressed.
It's not "we" turning the corner. They have done nothing to turn the corner. All the new laws and policies of this administration are killing jobs. And I've yet to see any of this "turning any corner." This smoke and mirrors BS of this administration is beyond getting old.
YES!!! We are "turning the corner" where. . . .into bankruptcy????
It's just that wrong is wrong.
This clown has no idea what he is talking about.
he has never held a real job, how would he know?
NO. Why?
“State debt woes grow too big to camouflage
Economist: ‘When an accident is waiting to happen, it eventually does’
By Mary Williams Walsh
New York Times
updated 4:57 a.m. PT, Tues., March. 30, 2010
California, New York and other states are showing many of the same signs of debt overload that recently took Greece to the brink — budgets that will not balance, accounting that masks debt, the use of derivatives to plug holes, and armies of retired public workers who are counting on benefits that are proving harder and harder to pay.

ALSO:
"Youth may pay a lot more for health premiums-
Costs expected to rise 17 percent once insurance is required.....CHICAGO - Under the health care overhaul, young adults who buy their own insurance will carry a heavier burden of the medical costs of older Americans — a shift expected to raise insurance premiums for young people when the plan takes full effect. ....Beginning in 2014, most Americans will be required to buy insurance or pay a tax penalty.

RE: Robb Myers
Occupation: Self-employed computer technician, owner of cat kennel
Income (household): $92,000 annually
Current insurance: Small group HMO….he downside of that autonomy, however, is the $14,640 Mohr pays each year for health insurance to cover his family, which includes two sons, ages 6 and 4.
See:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2010/03/23/eveningnews/main6326955.shtml
Oddly enough if he were a corporation (and not a small business corporation” Mr. Mohr could deduct his entire premium expenses..but because he is a small business he can only deduct only a portion (Nice eh?..this how the government bends over the little guy). Also, ok.. tax credits.. which are good, since Mohr will not qualify for any other tax credits because he makes to much money… Those credits are about (giving him the max), would be a whopping $5,124 dollars.
Mr. Mohr’s tax bracket is 25% (25% on the income between $67,900 and $137,050; plus $9,350)
See:
http://taxes.about.com/od/2009taxes/qt/2009_tax_rates.htm
92,000 - 5,124 = 86,876 taxable income.

"...March 27, 2010, 7:28 PM EDT
March 27 (Bloomberg) -- Representative Henry Waxman called the chief executive officers of AT&T Inc., Verizon Communications Inc., Caterpillar Inc. and Deere & Co. to provide evidence to support costs the companies plan to book related to the new health-care law.

WHERE DO YOU FALL ???????
YES IT WAS PREDICTED THAT COSTS WOULD RISE:

Turning the Corner?
Yippy zippy,
I woke up with the sun shining through my window.
"Obama: ‘We are beginning to turn the corner’"
Yeah, indeed, the corner of Lenin and Socialism, driven there by the biggest Socialist of them all, Chairman "O."
40% temporary census jobs, 15% temporary "leisure and hospitality" jobs, another 10% seasonal construction jobs. We're saved!! temporarily.
What is true?
Guess what !!! " 162,000 jobs added in March, most in 3 years....President Obama: ‘We are beginning to turn the corner’... See: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36146930/ns/business-stocks_and_economy/ .....Pretty Kewl eh??? Well let us take a closer look...
According to the U.S Department of Labor most of those JOBS were t...e...mporary workers... TEMPORARY.....
"Nonfarm payroll employment increased by 162,000 in March, and the unemployment
rate held at 9.7 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.
Temporary help services and health care continued to add jobs over the month.
Employment in federal government also rose, reflecting the hiring of temporary
workers for Census 2010. Employment continued to decline in financial activi-
ties and in information.....
In March, nonfarm payroll employment rose by 162,000. Job growth continued in tem-
porary help services and in health care. Federal government employment increased
due to the hiring of temporary workers for Census 2010. Job losses continued in
financial activities and in information. (See table B-1.)
Temporary help services added 40,000 jobs in March. Since September 2009, tempor-
ary help services employment has risen by 313,000.
Employment in health care continued to increase in March (27,000), with the larg-
est gains occurring in ambulatory health care services (16,000) and in nursing and
residential care facilities (9,000).
In March, employment in mining increased by 8,000. Monthly job gains in mining
have averaged 6,000 over the past 5 months.
Employment in federal government was up over the month, reflecting the hiring of
48,000 temporary workers for the decennial census.
Manufacturing employment continued to trend up in March (17,000); the industry has
added 45,000 jobs in the first 3 months of 2010. Over the month, job gains were
concentrated in fabricated metal products (9,000) and in machinery (6,000).
Employment in construction held steady (15,000) in March.
The industry had lost an
average of 72,000 jobs per month in the prior 12 months.
Over the month, employment changed little in transportation and warehousing,
leisure and hospitality, retail trade, and wholesale trade."

NO.

WE DO NOT have the money to spend anymore...not when the national debt will be at 90% of our Gross Domestic Product...............
Turn the corner what a GD Crackhead.
We turned the corner, right into a wall of taxpayer debt.
Another foolish statement by the Disaster In Chief.
I'd love to see him say that down at the local unemployment office.
I guess he hasn't sensed any urgency from those 10 "unvetted" letters he reads daily.
This guy is a joke. A poor joke.
THE REAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE... is 16.9 %
See:

Pure BS my friends.
So, we added 162,000 jobs; fine. But, how many more jobs were lost? Is the result an increase or decrease in overall unemployment. Information, please.
162,000 jobs gained...vs. 15 million lost ????????????????????
Turning a corner ???????????
Like micro-speed bumps on the Autobahm ?????
This incompetent Potus can't tell black from brown shoe polish on a clear day.........
What a complete and utter joke..............................
MSNBC is a joke for not slaming his comments as untruthful. I wonder if they still feel a tingle up their leg when he speaks.
. . . turning the corner on the government taking control of everything including our very lives!
It takes 8000 shoe-shine boys to equal one entrepaneur creating five real jobs...........
See the problem, Hussein ???????????????????????
I knew the spin doctors in the right winged party would find fault in whatever is reported. Whatever your gripe, there are jobs that are getting people back to work. So sit back and drink that large glass of hater-aid and go to the Caribou Barbie's pep rally. Do forget your sheets.
"hater-aid" "Caribou Barbie's pep rally: ...............???????????????????????
"sheets........" ??????????????????
Ignoring that you might be be an Homo ignoramus rather than Homo sapiens, how do uyou do your math???????
Shake some more bones in your kettle, most of us would like to see your answer................
162,000 "new" jobs, 50,000 part time census, is turning the corner ?????????????
This is what BO should have done for the past year instead of poshing this POS HCR bill down our throats.
TOO LITTLE. TOO LATE.
SelGard makes Lithium ion batteries..............Obama's "green" company that makes a toxic disposable item............
Nincumpoop POTUS has impaled himself on LITHIUM............something he should take for his megalomania....................
YAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNN
There's still 8 to 10 million people out of work here in the US.
Yes, I do believe President Obama is chirping too fast, about job creations. The jobs that have been newly created are not long-term ones.
Whatever number he believes is true, improvement of people back at work is like a little ant factory in a small carton. Balderdash.
This country is still waiting for some Leadership and just not BS coming from a President who doesn't know what a real job is, "is".
Soon, it will be back to bigger numbers as more small businesses and corps file for bankruptcy.
Optimism. Hope and Change---we got every single one of the promises, by word of mouth.
By Tom Eley
2 April 2010
The top 25 managers of US hedge funds took home a record $25.33 billion in 2009, according to the new issue of the industry journal AR: Absolute Return+Alpha. The unchecked moneymaking in 2009 marked a dramatic reversal from the crisis year of 2008, when the top 25 took home “only” $11.6 billion. It surpassed even the heady days of 2007, when they combined for $22 billion.
This almost unfathomable level of personal enrichment exposes President Barack Obama’s Wall Street bailout. With the official unemployment rate near 10 percent, and with every level of government slashing jobs, education, and social programs, a small handful of individuals have—through sheer financial manipulation—reaped one-year profits counted in the billions...

jeff: "turning a corner"???? Straight to hades in a handbasket!
God help us all!
I think the President is using fuzzy math...
What you are doing is dispaying your ignorance.
Obama says we are turning a corner.
LOL
O-TAY Buh weet!
Reagan: Obama is in his second year of a four year presidency.
This is government created jobs, not REAL job creation through incentives, tax breaks, etc, etc.
According to the Bureau of Labor: Unemployment statistics DO NOT include those who have stopped/are not looking for work. Therefore there are more people actually unemployed than being officially reported.
BO is a legend in his own mind.
"He spoke at the Celgard LLC factory, which received a $49 million grant from the U.S. Energy Department last August."
Hmmmmmm. $49 Million to "create" 300 jobs. That's about $163,000 per job. I had no idea that factory jobs paid so well - must be union jobs.
Aren't you happy your tax money is being spent so wisely?
He'd better be pushing for job creation!
He will don't worry about it, right after Cap and Tax and amnesty. Then he will for sure get to the economy.
How?
We can't borrow any more money.. our country's debt will be almost to 90% of the gross domestic product in about 2 years. What would you suggest?
It's not about revenue...it's about fairness.
(P.S. That is a Mr Obama quote.)
Am Vet, how could he have a clue with no job experience behind him. The stupidity of the people who believed he was brilliant just because his promoters said he was. Where is the proof? His job record? His college scores?
Linda in Texas,
He graduated from Havard Law School, was a comminuty orginizer, civil rights attorney, taught constitual law at the University of Chicago Law school. And I'm pretty sure he also was near or at the top of his class. All before he entered politics, and if you think that he and his "promoters" made all of that up.......... You frighten me.
Yea Linda, as if YOU are one to determine any of that. But hey, you are good for a laugh on Friday.
Shellie, I only know what I read. Glad you can laugh. That is what is going to lose us our country, people like you who laugh and are in denial.
Chris-300615
It's not about revenue...it's about fairness.
(P.S. That is a Mr Obama quote.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's about "redistribution of wealth."
Ireland has one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the world. Unemployment hit 11% in March and will continue to climb. The previous administration cut taxes for the rich and we lost an estimated 5 million jobs. If you cut the tax rates for these corporations they don't create jobs they hand out bonuses to management for doing a good job because profit went up. How will cutting taxes for corporations that have no interest in creating jobs in our country because of all of the costs create more jobs. Should we do away with our child labor laws? Get rid of OSHA? Throw minimum wage in the crapper? These are the costs of living in a modern civilized society. It's a different world now you curmudgeonly types. We used to be worried about India taking all our jobs. The rise of the middle class and thier desire for decent wages has shifted that to SE Asia and China. China is having to crack down on it's citizens more and more because of the demand for worker's rights and some semblence of safeguards. Wages are growing at greater than a 25% year over year clip in some parts of the coast in that country.
Does anyone know whats happening with the clam chowda soup in the Rhode Island flood? I heard there would be less clams and more potatoes substituted!!
I guess the clam harvest is difficult in the flood! Anyone wanna chime in on the state of the Chowda?
No but the are a lot of chowderhead on here. A small positive, but at least it the right direction, Bush cost us 7 million jobs. 5m before he left office and 2m since. He did at least stave of total collapse. Even w is not stupid enough to believe in letting the market work. Where only 35 months from where we were on jobs when wtook office at this rate. Hope they build some better roads and rapid rail system in the north east. Oh and if you live in the south learn to speak Spanish.
Linda, am vet, what are your proposed solutions besides what obviously hasn't worked in the past, hence our current problems?
PDub:
This is not Ireland. How much of Ireland is industrialized? Yes, let's look at Ireland for the answers to the American economy; they're so much alike........................
The USA is no longer 'industrialized' The previous admins [ bush-clinton -bush]deregulated and gave tax cuts to corps and the rich --which sent jobs[7million] offshore and let the immigrants flood the country with cheap -labor...
Recovery from that rape of the American economy will not happen over night!
Lets look at what he did get done:
...So Barack Obama goes from minus 700,000 jobs a month to plus 162,000 a month in a year, effectively preventing a second great depression; He passes health care reform that will provide health insurance to tens of millions; A revolutionary student loans reform; Investing in the middle class more than any president since LBJ; Cut taxes to 95% of all Americans; Saving the financial system and bring the Dow from 6000 to 11000; Saving the entire Auto Industry; Passes a whole bunch of laws protecting ordinary citizens, including the Lilly Ledbetter Act and the Hate Crimes Bill; Investing in clean and renewable energy more than all the previous administrations combined; Ends the ban on Stem Cell Research; Stabilizing America's stance in the world and is about to sign arms control agreement with Russia - all this in 14 months and after receiving the country at the worst shape since FDR days.
]
Can't wait until November 2010 and 2012 thereafter to rid ourselves of the idiots in this administration. I hope Obama is classified as a "temporary worker", for the sake of our country. He is "1984" reincarnated.
PDub: If you paid taxes, you got a tax cut under Bush. In fact, many people who used to pay taxes, got a huge break in that they now get more back than they paid in, when you factor EIC into the equation.
Reagan: Repeating a lie doesn't make it true.
Reagan:
You're doing some fuzzy math....
Their fix: Extend unemployment again, and again, and again...
More ways to use taxpayer dollars instead of stimulating the jobs market.
People, people remember Obama can walk on water and he is the solution to every ill we have. Socialism has and does work perfectly every where and he knows we too need it. National debt into record areas in the short time he has screwed the country, and we will soon have all the benefits the other Socialist countries have. Super high income tax (Norway at 70%) combined with super low medical care: but there will be a increase in employement. We will need more to dig graves and transport all the Baby Boomers that are not allowed the surgical procedures to save their life (heart stints, bypass or open heart surgery) as it is their fault they aged and are a drag on his uptopia. When he kills off most of the early boomers, his group will be allowed to live as he is our great savior. B S
Ok I give up/What's the plan???????
What ever the plan is, we won't get to see it until afterwards. Just like the HC bill. They need time...lot's of time...just to figure out the spins.
The plan is to continue to "scare" the gullible, so they browbeat the opposition, then rush something through, and take a bow!
Same plan as always :-(
Given the Forbes article that many top corporations didn't pay sh## for taxes in 2008 or 2009 (GE for one. How? Domestic revenue is negative.....no tax, foreign revenue sky high..... tax permanently deferred), Obama still has to change the system to reflect a willingness to further protect the people, at the cost of corporate tax increase. Corporations need to feel the pinch for all the foreign windfall they're still gaining. IF the people don't like this, vote the other way. But, realize you'll still be unemployed, tax revenues will still be low, too low, and even lower, and spending will remain, if not increase.......just like 2000-2006. Furthermore, instead of fixing the problem, the GOP will again (as was the case wit Reagan and Bush) allow a manipulated system, where another real estate bubble can form. Last chance, then.
Obama, if he can show a viable plan to bring back jobs, will forever secure the Dems into the rightful places of leadership. The agendas fixed? Avoid a depression, repair and preserve state and local infrastructure, recreate health care, heal education, leave two wars, repair relations with strategic partners. The three that remain? Mexican Cartels, energy and job creation, and the quick marraige of the latter two.
If he does this, the economy expands, the money laid out is collected back.
That is one heck of a tall order, especially in 6 months. Would be nice to see Obama making some progress in these areas but I'm afraind he is just too hung on on health care.
Warprofiteer, higher corporate taxes just mean YOU pay more for goods and services. Any job 'created' by the gov't is paid for by higher taxes. If Obama wanted to help the economy he'd reverse course on almost all his current policies. He has created such uncertainty with regard to the deficit (future taxes), health care cost, cap & tax, energy and onerous regulation that no business person is willing to invest in our economy right now. If our gov't wanted to really help grow the economy they would grant themselves 3 years of vacation!! Oh, and don't start that 'see what happened under Bush' mess. Remember the .com bubble?? You can take every economic downturn and tie it directly to democratic mismanagement.
Uh, right. Tax the hell out of them. That will really make them start hiring thousands! LOL! And, the housing bubble that was caused by Barney Franks, Cris Dodd, and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac! IS that what you mean? I hope we don't have many idiots like you that think that way. If we do, then we are burned toast!
just like the hc plan (april fools joke), at first glance, if i were in good health, i would pay the fine instead of buying hc. then pick it up if i had a problem. if i were providing hc for my workers, i would drop it and pay the fine;cheaper, and let them fend for themselves. result: lots of people without healthcare; until they need it, govt with a wad of cash and not providing anything for it. /businesses paying fines for nothing so then they could raise prices to cover fines instead of providing hc benefits for employees. employees having to buy their own hc or pay fines. sounds like a winner to me!!good job dems.
warprofiteer keep the liberal spin going bud, because its B.S. GE is in Obamas pocket, just like they are wholly tided to government contract, as for changing the American system you should really go back and read all the history, not just the liberal points, as for the housing bubble G.W. Bush and the republicans tried 17 times to stop this only to fail against a democratic led charge by who? Barney Franke, Chris Dodd and the rest fo the dems, if you think this president and i use that term loosely has done such great things than you are a true fool, obama has no viable plan to put the public back to work because the best place to work is the private sector not controlled by the government. this is against obamas master plan of socialism or marxism or whatever you want to call it, as for mexican drug cartels thats easy "ENFORCE THE BORDER" "MILITARIZE THE BORDER" anyone crossing gets 1 warning then so be it. as for energy obama again has no clue nor does have on true job creation, the recent opening of drilling areas is a sham at best while keeping areas known to hold vast easy deposits at bay. typical know nothing spouting the same prepared logic of mistruth.
"GE is in Obamas pocket"
Gn, I think it's the other way around.
war profiteer- give me one of what you're having.
Turn the corner what a GD Crackhead.
Turning the Corner must the new phase for hitting the bottom of the cliff. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN you have lost the trust of America. FOX NEWS is the only truthful news going.
Only Obama could tell America we are turning the corn when we loose 448,000 jobs but created 23,000 real jobs.
1 new job for every 20 we loose. Good job President Crackhead.
Spoken like a true Socialist follower. Your solutions have never worked, However Kennedy and Reagan had and used a plan that improved the economy and employment. They both (one a Democrat and one GOP) reduced taxes to the businesses that hire people and creat product and to the wealthy (like Obama and the other millionaires in congress [read more Demo than GOP]) When these Presidents did reduce taxes we had growth, the LBJ's , Carters and Clintons of the world increased tax to the wealthy the economy flushed. Obama is ready to pull the handle and we will see the swirling of ouf jobs and nation down the drain. don't to forget to Seig Heil your leader.
I already told you before on other Newsvine Posts about all of the above and the current administration has done nothing other than making the situations worse.
Nope did not solve the cause of US Jobs/US Manufacturing Losses. Great Depression Era unemployment was 25%, current calculations using same formula 20% and rising.
Nope. Did not eliminate those Laws that eliminated the Laws to prevent another 1907 Depression and 1929-1939 Great Depression.
Cuts in Defense Appropriations Budgets for US Army Corps of Engineer Projects within US. Got to love the fact that this included dredging and rivers and streams. Current Floods. Previous cuts included upgrades, maintenance to Levees (Katrina, Congressional Hearings).
Payback to campaign contributors, not eliminating his quoted cause for the problems with Healthcare (Medical Profession), the Insurance Corporations. As payback using taxpayer money Insurance Corporations ($67 Billion + Millions of new suckers), Medical Device Industry ($20 Billion), Pharmaschutical Industry ($23 Billion). All while he gets real Medical Care for $42 per month (insurance corp eliminated) or free (taxpayer paid). And plans from Insurance Corporations on the "Exchanges" for Congress are NOT available to other Government Workers (another "special" deal only for Congress).
Nope, see all the School Closings. Teacher Layoffs.
Leave two wars, while creating two more. And cut and run from Iraq (no more Oil for you, China and the Russian Federation get it all + from Iran). Don't say Mexico and Canada they and Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc. have been Oil Laundrying from before the first Gulf War. As a matter of fact Canada is even doing oil shale processing to squeeze the last drops of oil out of rocks. This is why the President is reversing his campaign stance on "Drill Baby Drill".
Not a problem, China and the Russian Federation want the US out of the "Middle East" and he is doing it. No Oil for US, all for them. With China and Russian Federation providing weapons and technology to Iran. With Iran providing weapons and technology to all that want US out of "Middle East". This goes all the way back to the USSR backed Iranians during the Iran Iraq Wars.
Nope. Direct opposite as stated April 2009 US President meeting with Mexican President, US Military will not be used to secure US Borders.
August 2009 US President meeting with Mexican President and Canadian Prime Minister, US Military will not be used to secure US Borders.
Nope. He is Illinois Oil Refinery Lobby and Corn to Ethanol Lobby (research why this is not a solution but a problem).
Biden is Pennyslvania Coal Lobby and Delaware's "Mr. Corporate America" (near billions from each Corporation as to why US Supreme Court was "briefed", otherwise Obama/Biden Campaign becomes illegal, stuff just doesn't appear infront of the US Supreme Court for no reason.). McCain/Palin as not to be hypocritical adhered to the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (Law) aka McCain Feingold Law.
Keeps stating alternative energy while chopping the subsidies to the successful ones and giving the subsidies to his Lobbies. Ask Louisiana, Florida, Hawai'i about the chops they received to proven alternative energy. With their subsidies going to Illinois Corn Lobby for more High Frutose Corn Syrup.
Did not get rid of the problem and just made it worse.
President Obama, August 2009, Guadalajara, Mexico:
Example: Bankrupt Illegal Alien Harbor State of California spends over 10 Billion USD yearly of 85 Billion USD yearly budget on Ilegal Aliens as protected by La Raza (2009 California General Fund, this is trending to over 15 Billion for 2010). Illegal to ask Citizenship status so 1 Illegal Alien works 8 collect Public Assistance (2009 California Statistic, the current trend for 2010 is closer to 1 works 10 collect Public Assistance ratio).
The Leadership of Congress, Speaker of the House, Pelosi, "California is the model for all of the United States".
One thing I do agree with the President on. President Obama and Rahm Emanuel pertaining to the Selective Service aka "Draft", "US Citizenship is not an entitlement". So draft everyone, especially all the Corporate Executives, the Politicians sons and daughters (an not nominate them to US Military Academies, as currently done) throw them to the front line Combat Units of the US Army and USMC. Earn their US Citizenship as a Civic Duty.
good april fools joke warprofiteer and if it was not a joke, I hope you like stretching one can of dog food to last one whole week, as Great Depression Era Dog Food Stew.
warprofiteer:
Are you high?
How's the change going? I hoping all you folks that voted obama in are happy with the direction we are going. I guess if you happen to be out of work you understand that 15 months of healthcare was the most important thing to work on. I would of thought getting americans back to work was the #1 priority but I'm not the chosen one. Healthcare doesn't really kick in for 4 years. Fifteen months and now the pres is going around trying to sell his healthcare. So if all you unemployed can just hang on now why we sell the healthcare then we can start on jobs unless we need to work on cap&tax or immigration. You understand if you don't your a racist. If you can wait a few years we will have job openings for 16,000 new IRS agents and look at all the new goverment jobs healthcare will create. We just gain 162,000 new jobs. Didn't the Gov't census just start? How did Reagan do it ?
Richard, they still don't acknowledge that they screwed up. He still has his worshippers who have closed their minds to the reality.
Reagan doubled the national Debt relative to GDP. He all so pass the largest tax raise in USA history. During his terms the size of government increased by 50%. So if you use Reagan Method Obama just has to spend $13,000,000,000,000. Increase federal revenue by 80%.
Richard-1177139
Most of the unemployed were let go by the companies that got the large "tax cuts" and TARP's. They let most of the employees go and shipped jobs overseas and gave out bonuses like "welfare cheese " to their CEO's. The everyday worker was patted on the back and showed the door. The rise in unemployment started before Obama and would have continued to rise if another Republican took office. Although most of you guys don't see it, we will look at Obama's message like Carter's and say what were we thinking.
BTW, Carter said we should live within our means and stop being so wasteful and dependent on oil. He was a one term president because America could handle the truth.
Corporations used to pay a much higher percentage of the federal budget, they got tax breaks and still lay people off. Enough with the trickle down con job. If you want to do business in the U.S. you pay your fair share of the freight.
Thats the reason corporations are leaving this country in record number. socialist like you just don't get it. Question! do you work for a living?
SJC. . .You don't get it. . . .if could start a business and had your choice between two different places and in one place you get a much much cheaper tax rate where would you invest your money? Why can you people not see this? Corporations leave so they don't have to pay the crazy tax rates, employers SS, pension plans, or deal with unions. This is not 1900 it is 2010. The digital era is here and companies are no longer land locked and can move around the world just like you would choose to live in a place where the property taxes were much lower so that you would have a greater amount of your own money companies move to free up more capital. . . .insert your rant about "evil" companies and the poor working stiff here: ____________________________________________________
SCJ
I'm confused...who is going to provide the jobs under your plan?
If you have a 401k plan, you are an owner of these corporations you want to put out of business.
Linda, they still don't get it! OR, they're Professional Freeloaders.
Neg, I believe it is a little of both.
Where does it say that a corporations main office is also where they employ people. Why not have your corporate home in the safest most stable country in the world but then offshore all of your manufacturing to a corrupt 3rd world country that enslaves it's people. You reap all of the benefits of living in a civilized society supported by that countries tax payers but you don't have to worry about carrying your fair share of the debt. When you have completely depleted your home countries resources and marginalized the workers who cares you're still loaded and can go where you please. Where's the patriotism of the Wal-Marts of this country. If you enjoy the benefits of living in our civilized society then help support it. Don't hide your money in offshore accounts (167,000 people have come forward to avoid prosecution in the UBS case) and don't offshore your jobs to people who aren't in the market for your products to take advantage of 3rd world countries.
PDub, that is nice and idealistic. Reality, "Show me that Laws" (that this Administration has failed to even start). You mention Walmart. Ok, how about all those Walmart Vehicles that you buy from GM, Ford, Chrysler (US Corporations in name only, who do you think used their Lobbyists at Congress to get the Free Trade Agreements and Amendments passed, that made "Outsourcing" of US Jobs/US Manufacturing legal.).
SJC-1437429 why are you Backstabbing your buddy, "Mr. Corporate America" aka Delaware Senator Biden, now VP. With his major campaign contributors (nearly a Billion each) and constituents being:
(List from 2005) Delaware: Freddie Mac, Fanny Mae, Bank of America, Wilmington Trust, First USA / Bank One / JPMorgan Chase, AIG, Citigroup, Deutsche Bank, Barclays plc, GM, Chrysler, Wachovia, ExxonMobil, Chevron, ISDA, and those States with Corporations Incorporated at Delaware.
A. This is why the Democratic Party Controlled Congress passed the November December 2008 Billion USD Bailouts as "time sensitive" to buy the January 2009 Electoral College Votes. The January 2009 Electoral College Votes determine the US President and Vice President NOT your November 2008 vote.
B. The Billion USD Bailouts do nothing to pay for the 60-100 Trillion USD "Global Economic Crisis" (consisting of all the other "Crisises", like "Wall Street", "Mortgage", etc.) and the same people will cause the next "Crisis" of 54.6 Trillion USDs. With this administration not doing anything to stop the Causes and the only motive for the Billion USD Bailouts being as stated in A., above.
C. This is why the US Supreme Court was briefed on Unlimited Corporate Campaign Contributions. As stated before nothing appears for the US Supreme Court at random. If the US Supreme Court had decided the other way (against Unlimited Corporate Campaign Contributions) the Obama/Biden Campaign would have been declared as Illegal (negating the current Administration). This is also why the Obama/Biden Campaign did not adhere to the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (Law) otherwise they could not receive near Billions from each Corporation. Your $3000 donation only pays for one of thousands of Campaign Offices for one day. As mentioned before also so as not to be hypocrites the McCain/Palin Campaign adhered to the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act since it is also known as the McCain Feingold Act (Law).
Before you say no, no, no to the above do the research.
David I drive a 97 Nissan pathfinder, my wife an 05 Toyota Corrolla. If the domestic car companies want my dollars they have to build a more reliable, economical, safer car. Be careful pointing a finger at the Dems because you'll have three pointing back at you. I only remember one candidate "suspending" his campaign in order to get back in time to vote on this time sensitive legislation signed by a Republican President. Where was the party of NO then? And c is so much of a stretch that I'm not even going to comment further on it. I watched your videos and in both they talk of both parties, not just the one who won the election.
About a year and a half late on this "doncha think".
Must say I'm pretty impressed with Obama's multitasking ability. He's been able to juggle multiple wars, financial market failures, HC reform, DADT reform, job creation... I can't think of one president in the last 2 generations who's accomplished more (and kept more campaign promises) in so little time.
It's a shame he hasn't gotten anthing right! The only campaign promise he,s kept is change, but it,s been for the worse.
nice opinion, but contrary to the factchecker website
What good has Herr Obama done per factchecker? Unemployment up, home forclosure up, future down the river, majority of America angry with the adminsitration and you think this fool is good for the nation? Do you work or are you a government employee? If the government makes it hard to create a profit in the USA you are damn sure to move out of country to stay in business. If the Obama idea is so good and his socialism is the best for us, why did his model fail,Russia?
USSR was communist. Do you work Ray or do you just vomit up whatever Rush feeds you. James laid out what has been accomplished by this administration thus far. If the companies move out of this country where would they go that would be more fertile ground. Russia? China? Mexico?
Failure. And started two more.
Failure. Did not eliminate the causes.
Failure. Payback for Campaign Contributions.
Failure. See US Military Articles written by those "gays" that are now leaving US Military.
Success. Again I agree with President Obama and Rahm Emanuel on Selective Service, Draft your arse, so you can see for yourself.
Failure. Make 1 temporary job while losing 20 permanent jobs.
Failure. See above failures.
I try not to be too critical of our President as I understand that a lot of what happens in Washington is determined by our Congress and Senate but this guy just doesn't stop campaigning. He isn't trying to create jobs to benefit Americans just like he wasn't trying to create a Health Care reform bill that would benefit Americans. He did it to benefit his image. He just seems more concerned about himself and his image than he is about the plight that America finds herself in today.
Oh he pretends to care, just the other day he said something about off shore drilling. What he didn't metion was that he was exploring the idea of offshore drilling, that will never happen because the EPA won't let it, and he really will only explore the idea if cap and tax gets passed.
The united states is pretty much the only country in the world that has an abunace of oil, coal, and natural gas but won't use it, and thus depends on other countries for it? How does that make sense?
But hey we are going full bore with Wind energy, which basically costs a fortune, we again have to go overseas to get the parts, and runs at about 10% capacity. On top of the fact that we have to build huge wind farms on the land.
Wow, how does this not sound a like a good ideas? note the sarcasm
obamas idea of job creation is govt grants (tax and spend) and programs that will create short term jobs(gone when the grant runs out) but totally controlled by the govt. "dont worry, look at what the govt has done for you, given you jobs". along with stumping for the health bill he shoved thru with no rep or ind votes, w/noone reading or understanding what it would do or how it would be implemented. total govt control bs. i'm telling you, there will be hell to pay b4 this criminal pulls off this bs.
Tom, give me your address and I'll be sure to let you and your neighbors know when we will start drilling for oil and gas in your neighborhood. Oh wait, nobody wants an oil derrick in their neighborhood and we ensure our duly elected reps are aware of it. Do you burn coal in your furnace at home. Why not, are you some sort of tree hugging environmentalist?
I have a natural gas furnace at home. Why? because that is what came with the house, and seems to be the cheapest way to heat my house. I live in MN, and if having oil pumps around the city I live in brings down the cost of my energy I will be for it. I haven't heard of too many alaskans bitching about not having a state income tax and still getting money back at the end of the year.
A oil derrick is worse than a wind mill how?
PDub. . . .wrong. . .I would love them to find a HUGE oil reserve right under my house and then pay me MILLIONS to buy me out. . .isn't it the dream of the Clampet's????
Tom, is wind energy combustible now? If the oil begins to seep into your drinking water are you ok with that. Wood as a fuel source used to be cheaper than oil or natural gas why isn't that the major player any more? Oh yeah, because it's unsustainable and we progressed to the next generation of fuel. Well let's just stop there and when the oil and gas runs out we'll start working on the problem then. Come on man. My point is we all want cheap energy but we don't want to go back to the 70's and early 80's when the whole town stunk like sulphur, the rivers would catch on fire, and visibility was nill because of all the soot in the air.
If congress would pass some sort of legislation that would make it attractive for companies to bring back outsourced jobs it would go a long way toward healing the economy. They won't do it though, because they don't want to upset their lobbyists. That is both dems and repubs.
TERM LIMITS!!
This American supports term limits!
kirby, this country and the rest of the world has become accustomed to the prices reflected in slave labor manufacturing. There is no way the average consumer would be willing to pay the necessary sums in order to bring yesterdays jobs back here. We need to lead the world in the high tech jobs of tomorrow not the low tech jobs of yesterday. Let me know when you are willing to pay $25 for an undershirt or $5 for a pair of athletic socks. I'll be glad to sell them to you and will use part of my profit to pay someone to cut my grass right here in the usa. I'm patriotic like that.
I previously posted the solution to this, with the solution being opposed in writing by the US Labor Unions. With the US Labor Unions Lobbyists going to Congress to stop the implementation of a US Military "experiment" that would have decreased the risks of deaths of US Civilian Union Workers at Nationwide Dispersed Government Owned Government Operated (GOGO) and Government Owned Contractor Operated (GOCO) Ammunition Manufacturing Plants/Factories and neighboring towns and cities. This solution would have decreased the production costs for your example of undershirt to $1.00, and .50 cents for a pair of athletic socks. The people previously at the (now closed) Levi's Plant at Georgia know what I am talking about. Also Lean Six Sigma and the teachings (Principles) of W.E. Deming.
This US Military DARPA "experiment" was implemented in another country and then turned over to that country and is currently still profitting (huge profits, part of their GNP).
msnbc is at it again. "hoping that will help Democrats gain favor with voters after a bruising, yearlong battle with Republicans over health care." It wasn't the Repub's standing in the way. It was the fight between the Progressive Dem's against the moderate Dem's. Gotta luv msnbc
Yeah, and they all had to be bought off with struggling taxpayer dollars to vote for it.
Wouldn't it be nice if someone voiced an opinion of their own, instead of parroting the right-wing drivel that comes from Rush Limbaugh and Rupert Murdock?
How much of the economic debacle that we're trying to dig our way out of pre-dates Barack Obama's taking office in January of 2009?
How many of the jobs outsourced to India and China were exported after January of 2009?
How much of the actual debt (not projected or predicted, but ACTUAL DEBT that the country owes right now) was run up after January of 2009?
Blaming Barack Obama for the economic and political disaster that resulted from the incompetence and stupidity of his predecessor is ridiculous. Some folks clearly need to learn to read a calendar, so they can realistically assess responsibility for the utter failures of the previous eight years.
Is there anyone out there who really believes the economy of this country is worse off today than it was in January of 2009? Is there anyone out there who really believes that a stable unemployment rate is worse than a sky-rocketing unemployment rate? Is there anyone out there who really believes that a growth of 160,000 jobs is worse than losing a couple hundred thousand?
Please!
He (Obama) was the one that wanted the job and said he could fix the problems. I remember the MSM wanted to have him start putting his fixes to the economy before Bush left so we could get a jump start on the problem. Then he got in to office and it was all about HC. Now after waiting a year and a half he may look into it?
yes, there are people out here that believe all those things. AMERICANS!! we just dont happen to be "free lunchers" like yourself. we believe that you should not have a bib on and need to be spoon fed and have your diaper changed, and have the govt take EARNED INCOME away from working people to give to you so you can sit on your fat ass and do nothing. read me on that, over.
I'm with you Dr. Tom. However, others are caught in the Tea Party Foxpublican Echo Chamber and don't want the country to succeed under this leadership. They would rather see the current administration fail than actually govern and lead the country out of this mess. That's un-American.
It will take creative, innovative, forward thinking Americans to get us out of this. Most of the 8 Million jobs lost are gone for good. I have faith that enterprizing Americans will create opportunities for new jobs. I for one am working towards this goal.
For your uneducated opinion, I don't listen the Limbaugh or any other radical right or lefty. I listen to the works coming out of the Socialist Obama and his gang's mouth. "we won't know what is in the plan until it passes"! this "president" has not listened to the people that elected him, and forced a bad piece of legislation on the public and is surprised we are angry. Obama hasn't figured the campaign is over, he spends his time trying to get us to like the bill no one in DC has read or understands, even him. If this guy is the best for America, we are doomed. Stop vomiting back the garbage from the left and try thinking. Not everyone that thinks Obama is garbage is a "Right wing radical". Just every Democrat during the Viet Nam war were not Jane Fonda traitors. Use your mind and think for yourself and for the benefit of the real Americans (not the illegal mexicans).
The economy is secondary to this president and it will remain so. His first priority is his ideology of socialism and government growth. Control over the public is his goal. Work on the economy? Maybe down the road after he feels that he has all the socialism that he can get. Upcoming elections and the defections in congress will upset more and more of his plans. Obamas talk and promises of jobs and oil production is just smoke and mirrors....talk about it because the public wants it, but dont actually do it.....he wants those tax increases and penalties in place for those who dont accept his socialism and rules....
At this point it doesn't matter what the President says and what Congress does. These people have placed the needs of the American people behind their own agendas for long enough. IMO, it's time to vote every one of them out of office. It's time we show the government that we do have a voice and they better start listening to it.
This reminds me of a sketch that used to be on "MadTV" called "Lowered Expectations." Obama's presidency will be known as the Era of Lowered Expectations. Anyone who thinks that 9.7 unemployment is good in anyway, especially since Obama promised nothing higher than 8.5%, is truly drunk on Obama's kool-aid.
Excuse me.... "Now after waiting a year and a half....."
Waiting? How about having to fight through a resounding year-and-a-half -long chorus of NO! from Republicans.
The only way Obama could honestly be accused of unnecessarily waiting is to realize that trying to get Republicans to agree to anything at all was a waste of his (and our) time. They swore to delay and obstruct - and that's exactly what they did.
That is hardly the fault of the guy who reached out to them in an effort to work together to solve the problems that already existed when he took office.
The Dem's had control of both houses so it did not matter what the Repub's did or did not do. The fight was between the Dem's on HC. So please stop regurgitating the lefty lines.
DoctorTom, you mean the Democrats were obstrusting the Democrats, I mean, really, the battle over who would be first in line at the pig-trough of pork, bribes, kickbacks, and special concessions for the unions ???
Yeah, with the Dems having a supermajority, the Republicans did a lot of obstructing ! Oh wait, I forgot, it was George Bush's fault.......somehow, someway, surely it was......
This whole economic sh*t storm absolutely started on GWBs watch, and stop trying to act like the republican admin had nothing to do with it. Economy was FREE FALLING in OCT 08. and GWB instututed bank bail outs, something the right likes to conveniently forget. The next statment is that everything wrong with the economy was Fannie and Freddie's fault, right? Who had supermajority for 6 years and could have fixed or prevented that? Correct, the Republicans. So, in 18 months, the freefall that clearly incubated and began under GWB has been stopped, but people are complaining that the gravy days of 06/07 aren't back so the pitchforks are being sharpened. Guess what, 06/07 financial lunacy is not coming back for a very long time, THANK GOODNESS.
The entire sh*t storm, as you put it, started when the democrats took control of congress in 2007. The housing crisis was compliments of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, both democrats. Trying educating yourself before you spout off.
Just like a socialist mentality to call the GOP the party of NO. the GOP no's were to protect the nation from the socialist move of Obama. This leftist thinking is if it is anti-Obama it is evil, pro Obama - good. It the NO was bad, why are 70% of the American public angry with Obama's forced martch to socialism and poor medical care. The GOP and America wanted reform, just not this socialist agenda Obama has put us on. Open your eyes and for once in your life think for yourself. Obama is not the god/savior your think he is. Job creation is not temp jobs that will never qualify for Obama care EVER. Part time not covered and the employers will have to go to part time employees to stay in business, that or get the hell out or dodge with the jobs. Thanks Herr Obama stalin
Uh, yea right. What did you get your doctorate in, Stupidness? Yea, they said NO! No to jumping off a cliff, No to higher taxes, higher unemployment, NO to this insane healthcare crap. NO to cap and tax, NO to Illegal aliens,No to shafting the independent car dealers, No to corrupt organizations like ACORN that did receive our tax dollars, On and on. His idea was to tell the Republicans what he is going to do and for them to take it and like it. PERIOD! That is his idea of bipartisianship. As far as I am concerned they can keep telling him NO until hell freezes over! Come NOvember we will tell him NO again! I think the vast majority of moderates that were suckered in and voted for this chicago crook will wake up and tell him NOBAMA ! I am sure that this conservative libertian will.
Proctological procedure. Surgical removal of cranial rectumitis.
Doctor Tom -
The republicans said no to healthcare because it was and is a bad bill. They were doing what their constituents wanted them to do. The reason a lot of people are upset with the current adminisration is that they have done next to nothing to create an atmosphere where jobs will be created in the private sector.
They spent all their time and resources on health care and only health care. Obama is still out doing campaign speeches for a bill that already passed.
And Obama did not reach out to the repubs. He basically said "here is the bill, like it or not." The repubs had some ideas, but none of them were included. Maybe you like the trial lawyers, and for sure the dems do, but most of us would have been thrilled with tort reform. You see that anywhere? You see insurance companies allowed to cross state lines? It wasn't just the repubs saying no.
The dems have had control of congress for 4 years and the white house for 18 months. Time to put up or shut up. Nobody buys into the blame Bush stuff anymore except apologists for the dems failure to act.
wrong kirby. Obama reached out to republicans many, many times. It was the repubs who rejected constructive policy-making in favor of partisan politicking. They intended to humiliate Obama with a health care loss, to create his Waterloo, instead of doing something to help citizens. The repubs have instead created their own Waterloo. If they want to rebound, they need to promote something, instead of promote 'No'.
James, please tell us of these "many times" that Obama has "reached out" to Republicans. Obama has never constructively worked with anyone he disagrees with in his entire political life. His sham of a "health care summit" after both houses had already voted on legislation was an embarrassment for himself and his administration. The fact that he had to bribe and threaten his own party to pass a bill without needing any republican support is a testament to his poor leadership skills and his blatent partisan agenda.
Amf1211, given the 60+ republican amendments that made into the bill, including the republican-introduced mandatory insurance coverage (short memory, eh?), are some of the tangible evidence of bipartisan gestures.
The "health care summit" was a final olive branch, which republicans once again refused.
The fact that Obama is the only president in over 2 generations to make progress on health care reform is testament in itself to his tremendous leadership prowess.
It looks like the MoveOn.org checks cleared. They've sent out their marching orders and sheepish talking points.
Actually, amf1211... I'm a medical doctor in San Diego, and only started following online debates with the discussion of health care. I support the health care reform, but don't think it went far enough. At least it was a step in the right direction!
The "health care summit" became a show, because the republicans offered nothing but 'No'.
The "health care summit" was nothing more than a "SHOW". Sorry, but everyone in America knows this. Barack Obama did most of the talking, he appointed himself as "impartial moderator" (what a joke), and Republican ideas were only given about 34% of the total time. The summit was a glorified "dog and pony" show, and, within 48 hours or less, the controversial "reconciliation" (meant for budget reconcilition issues) was in motion.
James, an MD in SanDiego? SURE!! You smokin' some of that stuff from south of the border?
Jim, get a dictionary, find the word minority. Read it until you understand it.
Single payer was dropped to Public Option which then changed to Insurance Pool / Mandatory coverage. Which party do you think really wanted corporations to be involved with HC reform? Sure looks like a big portion of what Republicans wanted actually got into the bill. But then again, according to republicans nothing was really wrong with HC to begin with, that a little Tort Reform and interstate insurance shopping couldn't have fixed correct?
James - "The "health care summit" was a final olive branch, which republicans once again refused."
Thank goodness! The Republicans did something right! Now let's hope they will continue to listen to the majority of Americans (of all parties), who don't support this bill or other gov't attempts at more control.
Facts are facts, James. Regardless of what the Republicans did or did not do, the Democrats could not get this crapper passed without slugging it out with one another. How shameful and (one would think) embarrassing for them - not something that inspires ANY confidence.
That in-fighting thing is NOT a sign of party unity or anything else that could be interpreted as positive. Those of us who can think for ourselves and manage our own decisions will continue to oppose the parental role this congress and president have taken. Can't wait for November.....!
Face the facts James-1124846 I know that you are NOT a Doctor (MD) or you would have NEVER wanted to be completely subjegated to the Insurance Corporations. Yeah, thats right the Medical Profession being subjegated to the NON Medical Profession Insurance Corporations. And since you are NOT a Medical Professional based on what you posted, the simple explanation, Medical Malpractice Insurance, that makes the Medical Profession a non profitable career (to the extent even the foreign Medical Professionals on visas are leaving, AFTER this Insurance Scam was signed into Law.). This is not to mention after this became Law, many Medical Professionals are not going to accept Medicare or Medicaid, and many Medical Professionals are leaving the Medical Profession or going to other Countries (including entering the US Military).
More baloney. President FDR eliminated the Insurance Corporations out of Health Care (Medical Profession) during the Great Depression with the result of Real Universal Health Care when nobody had money and 25% Unemployment:
FINALLY, MORE PROOF:
What was said:
President Obama, Face the Nation, September 20, 2009
Obama: No, the difference is that they're making huge profits on it, Bob. I mean, let's take the Medicare HMO programs that are being run by insurance companies. It's estimated by everybody that they're overcharging by about 14 percent. This amounts to about $177 billion over 10 years. About $17 billion a year, $18 billion a year. That's just going to pad their profits, hasn't been shown to make Medicare recipients any healthier. And in fact because those huge subsidies are going to insurance companies, Medicare recipients are not getting a good deal. Now if we are enforcing what should be the rules around Medicare and making sure the people are getting a bang for the buck, it's not going to be possible for insurance companies to simply pass on those costs to Medicare recipients because ultimately it's Uncle Sam that's paying for those services anyway.
(guess who Uncle Sam is, duh, yeah that's right all US Taxpayers).
So the President knows about the big bad Insurance Corporations.
BY GETTING THE INSURANCE CORPORATIONS OUT OF THE MEDICAL PROFESSION
What Congress Gets:
The Hypocrisy is that the late Senator Kennedy of whom the Democratic Party refer to as the champion of this so called Health Care Reform used the Medical Services listed above for $42 per month. As well as Bethesda Naval Hospital (reference New Media footage of his departure after treatment at Bethesda).
House speaker will keep money from 'villains', Pelosi called insurers 'immoral,' despite receiving funds from industry.
Obama is doing a fantastic job, especially given the crap Bush dumped him with!
He avoided the catastrophic failure of the financial markets, which was the most urgent priority of his new presidency.
He is the only president to successfully move health care reform, which will reduce the single greatest cause of individual bankrupcy in the US (medical bills).
He has gained the respect of the international community and is restoring the stature of America in the eyes of the world.
Sure he's not perfect, but he's doing an amazing job! This coming from a lifelong republican, who switched to democrat after the last president.
Thank you, Mr. President. Keep it up!
He wanted the job and knew about all the crap that he was about to wade into. Now it is time to stop blaming some one else and get the job done. Pointing fingers does nothing.
James, your post would be nice, if any of it were actually true.
You're exactly right, tkooo.... and getting the job done is exactly what Obama is doing!
And Amf1211, no president in 2 generations has accomplished so much and kept so many campaign promises in so little time. Factchecker has tracked over 100 kept campaign promises to date... the most of any president in the same time frame.
You mean like that promise of keeping unemployment under 8.5%? Or the one about closing GITMO? I'd go on, James, but it's apparent that reality and the truth is lost on you.
If he has gained the respect of the international community, then why is he a laughing stock in Europe? The only 'leaders' that like him are the dictators like Chavez and Castro. Iran is going ahead with their nuclear armament plans. That doesn't sound like he and the US are respected to me.
Also, the financial markets have not reflected the reality of Main Street USA for a while. Property values are falling and Investment portfolios for retirement have taken major hits and do not look to be truly recovering, but the 'too big to fail' banks have sure made a killing.
James, I hope the transparency thing and the "no lobbyists in my administration" are not part of the 100.
Amf1211, check factchecker... Obama's accomplishments are impressive, and just because he hasn't achieved all his goals yet, doesn't mean they won't be done... he's still in the first half of his presidency after all.
Obama is very, very well respect in Europe, far more than he is here Tammy. Have you traveled there lately, or just regurgitating RNC buzz?
tkooo, transparency isn't one of the 100 that I saw, but given all the discussions and debates and remarkable participation in the health care debate throughout its entire process... I'd say he's doing far better than expected.
As far as lobbyists go, I agree that's a problem, especially when everyone is getting paidoff in Washington, republican and democrat alike.... who's left to choose from? lol
Who forced the transparency in the health care debate, James? Not dems or the pres who wanted this done in less than two weeks.
As for Obama being "well respected" in europe. I guess when French leaders call him "weak" that's supposed to be a compliment, now.
I knew liberals were known for rewritting history and creating their own reality, but James, you've created a comedy hour. I've been trying to back up your "statements" but haven't been able to find one.
see post 20.6 amf1211, shall I continue? And in my last trip to Europe, I found more support for Obama than we have here! I think you've been skewed by RNC talking points?
amf: Don't worry about drtom and I would guess drjames, they have much to gain with this admin's agenda.....
Exactly, Scott... fewer of my patients will be forced into bankruptcy just to get medical care... this health care reform is good for patients, and all of us since we're all one moment from being a patient ourselves. We all have much to gain.
Uh, James, you're going to have a lot fewer patients if you don't get back to the Hospital.
The one thing buttcrack obammie is doing a fantastic job of is destroying the demoncrap party. Never before has America's internal enemies been so clearly defined. He has disgraced the country, bowing before rulers of other countries, apologized for things which America is not guilty, committed acts of treason, granted terrorist the rights once reserved for American citizens, left our borders open for invasion by illegal immigrants and wiped his feet on the constitution. In fact the only achievement for good that can be attributed to this monstrous mistake is the destruction he has reaped upon demoncraps.
The man has no experience managing even a hot dog stand before taking over the banking and automotive industry. He insults our allies and reinforces our enemies. He has never met a tax he didn't adore. He has absolutely no idea what he is doing but according to some idiots he is amazing. Well I must agree. It is amazing that someone so incompetent can be allowed to continue to drive this once great country into bankruptcy. It is amazing that someone this corrupt is allowed to remain at large while small time crooks remain in jail. It is amazing that one person can tell the same lies over and over again while maintaining a audience of brain dead followers.
Even with all of this buttcrack offers America hope. Hope that we will be castrated in November 2010. Hope that he will be voted out of office in 2012. Hope that there will be a country at that time. Hope that this in 2012 sane voters will out number the parasites.
He has support in Europe but he doesnt in the country who pays his paycheck.......doesnt that bother you just a little. I could give a damn less what europe thinks of Mr. Obama. They dont pay my bills do they pay yours? Time for him to quit trying to be a superstar and quit lying.
James, you claim to be a Medical Doctor, I don't believe you. How much do you pay in Malpractice insurance and have you ever had a claim? do you actually believe socialized medicine will get better care to the Public? i grew up in a Doctor's family, and I saw him have to pay monthly more than the average American made for insurance. Are you aware Obama's socialized medical care does nothing to protect you from someone sueing you for a procedure you did correctly when it is improved later? What is you field on medicine? Are you willing to take a cut in pay with the same financial risk under Obama's plan. In my area we have had a Dr. recently close his practice because the amount he got from Medicare and the State did not cover his expenses. We lost a good Dr becuase of poor payments to him. Under the Obama plan this is just the start, wonder how long you can stay in practice making not enough to pay your bills. You claim to be a Doctor, yet you seem to believe poor care is better than what we get now.
Careful Ray-1162980 I got suspended for two weeks for proving that Newsvine poster schoolteacher was not a schoolteacher.
and the beat goes on.
Kirby -
You conveniently forget that half of the Senate committee who wrote the health care bill were NOT Democrats. Or, maybe you really didn't know that?
Have you heard of Joseph Lieberman, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins?
Lieberman quit the Democratic party and aligned himslef with Republicans to campaign for John McCain, and Senators Snowe and Collins are definitely Republicans.
Those folks took months putting together the Senate Health Care bill.
That bill was definitely not, as you say, given to Republicans with a "Here is the bill - like it or not".
They wrote it!
"Nobody buys into the blame Bush stuff...."
What you really should say is "nobody who gets all of their news from Limbaugh and Murdock buys into...... "
Of course, the folks who get their news from Limbaugh and Murdock are the same people who thought the Iraq war was a great idea, and that outsourcing jobs to China and India was wonderful, and that tax cuts for the richest 2% of Americans was a stroke of genius.
And, all of those failures contributed greatly to the economic mess that the right-wingers are trying to blame on Barack Obama.
Hello!
Oh please doctor-
The final bill that came out of the senate bore no resemblance to the original and you know it. By the way, Lieberman was a life long dem who was kicked to the curb by his own party and ran and won as an indpendent. He caucuses with the dems. Snowe and Collins voted against the bill because it wasn't what the commitee wrote.
As far as the war goes, your dems voted for it. Do the names Clinton, Kerry, etc mean anything?
I don't listen to Limbaugh and I don't watch Oberman. But I'll bet you do.
And if you're going to give credit for the ecomony, remember the stimulus was started by the Bush admin.
kirby, you're mistaken... huge portions of the final health care bill were written by republicans. The republicans attacked the bill and Obama on pure politicking grounds, not policy grounds.
James, please provide the "huge portions written by republicans."
There were over 60 amendments, 62 perhaps, written specifically by republicans? I read the article on CNN, but sure you could find it as well. Surprisingly not counted among them was the idea of mandatory insurance, which was a republican idea a decade ago, which they flipped on.
please provide some evidence to back that up. I'm just trying to figure out why Obama himself didn't toute this ammendments as "repulican ideas." then again, I'm assuming that what you actually said was true. How silly of me...
Here's the first few I found, amf1211... shall I continue?
Review a few of the Republican initiatives included in legislation passed by Congress:
Even your great Obama and Hillary clinton thought the Iraq war was good and voted for it. Typical Dem memory, Iraq had WMD, or how did he kill millions of Kirds? You keep spouting theleft wing ideas that are WRONG. The Dems claim 2 Repb. that got paid oy Obama to vote against the will of the people are not proof that both parties wrote the Health(?) care(?) bill (note Obama signed it before it had legally passed BOTH houses [note not by the legal 60 votes or 2/3 majority] because he knew it would FAIL in both houses) As usual the left remembers fiction as fact and turn a great nation to a failing nation under socialist leadership.
the doctor gets his news from cnn,anyone see the clip of rick sanchez pointing to islands off s america and saying here is hawaii.and they laugh at the silly things palin says.this happened just after the earthquake in chile.
actually doc the democratic party quit him. check it out.
In his Good Friday campaigning (we're not even safe from his lies on a religious day!), Obama said, "his aggressive — if unpopular — policies helped add jobs." Of course, any good news is because of The One; it's always all about The One except when things go wrong. I found it humorous that during his speech yesterday, he used his normal sarcasm saying that the poll numbers hadn't moved yet after the healthcare bill passed - but it had only been a week. He got his expected laughter. He ridicules when he loses, as Alinsky taught. But the truth is related in this same article: "many of the 162,000 new jobs went to temporary Census workers. And more than 40 percent of those without jobs have been unemployed for more than six months." The federally-employed temporary census workers aren't going to help with unemployment - we need PRIVATE jobs that pay taxes not government jobs that take our tax dollars! The Arrogant Narcisstic One lies constantly and assumes we don't notice or we don't care. He believes we'll forgive him and belive his lies when November comes around - not so. He's done and those that follow him are also done. We're awake and we're angry and we aren't going to stand by and let this arrogant, obnoxious liar take over our country, our Constitution and our way of life.
MARY, bravo!! I will sleep well again when the hides are drying on the side of the shed.
48k census workers of the 162k new jobs... that's 114k permanent new jobs in March alone!
correction, 40k are temporary jobs. My mistake.
Actually James, another 40,000 of those are temp jobs not affiliated with thecensus. This of course should be viewed at the same time as the 439,000 new claims for unemployment and the increasing (or getting worse) underemployment rate.
Turn the corner what a GD Crackhead.
Turning the Corner must the new phase for hitting the bottom of the cliff. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN you have lost the trust of America. FOX NEWS is the only truthful news going.
Only Obama could tell America we are turning the corn when we loose 448,000 jobs but created 23,000 real jobs. The rest 90,000 were temp, 40,000 Gub'mint and 23,000 real.
1 new real job for every 20 we loose. Good job President Crackhead. We are turning the corner. Please pass the crack pipe.
Hey Jim, private sector or government jobs?
I'd be interested to know as well, James. If there was anything in this bill that was bipartisan, the dems would be crowing about it. They aren't because there is next to nothing in the bill that was crafted by the repubs. And it was obviously not that great in the first place since Reid had to bribe other senators to get their votes. A bad bill, poorly written and passed solely so dems could say, "well we did something".
62 amendments in a 2700 page bill isn't what I would call co writing.
please see post 20.6.... I'll keep going if you'd like... but given the volume, I don't want to overwhelm the thread.
Funny James, but the 26 year old on their parents plan is being touted by the dems as their idea and one of the "biggies" in the bill. So which is it?
The things you list, other than that, are not huge by any stretch of the imagination. What about the other 2650 pages?
You can list all 62 amendments and it won't change the fact that this is dem bill and they will live or die on it in November. Right now they're on life support or the President wouldn't be out giving campaign speeches about it.
Kirby, I think you've confused dems 'touting the bill' and dems 'touting their ideas in the bill'. And in the earlier post I just included the first 5 republican amendments I came across, if I were to include all 60+, it would overwhelm the thread. Do some research on your own, if you're curious. The searches are easy enough. As far as pagination goes, a summary bulletpoint here is equal to many, many pages of detailed explanation. I read the entire bill, which was a daunting task.
James.
This bill is so good and so popular..
dems are trying and attempting to ATTRIBUTE large parts of it to the republicans?
Why is this?
Sorry the fact the DEMS are trying to attribute large parts of this bill to the GOP and GOP POLS....shows they know its a bad bill and its going to remain unpopular..
so Dems are tying to spread the blame around
Unemployment remained at 9.7% so no change at all. But if he wants credit for it lets give it to him nice to hear no blame on previous administrations.
It's actually at 22%, this is big friggen lie is what it is. Current unemployment reporting methodology adjusted for SGS-estimated long-term discouraged workers, who were defined out of official existence in 1994. Clinton changed the way they calc the numbers. Go to ShadowStats.com and you will see.
Chronic Unemployment of at or near 10% is a chronic condition of the EURO SOCIALIST model the dems are trying copy.
DEMS like euro socialist are willing to live with 10% unemployment as long as they can create the socialist programs to support the Unemployed they help create..
I know what the true numbers are but just on their own method of reporting there was no change worth mentioning. Just nice to see him taking credit for something and when this fails he can only blame himself. Wait until gas prices get to the 3.50 to 4 dollar range they have done nothing to save us from that.
Again the white house does not tell the whole story:
The number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks and over) in-
creased by 414,000 over the month to 6.5 million. In March, 44.1 percent of
unemployed persons were jobless for 27 weeks or more.(http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.nr0.htm)
23,000 Private Sector Jobs Lost in March. April 2 will show payrolls increased by 184,000, in part due to temporary hiring by the federal government to conduct the 2010 census. http://www.freedomworks.org/blog/jborowski/adp-jobs-report-23000-private-sector-jobs-lost-in-
I am sure the record number of people who have lost their jobs and all of the blood suckers who are sucking their future generations out of a future are extreemly happy with the SPENDBAMA administration.
I can't wait until each and every one of you are voted out of office and shamed as the worst administration this country will ever experiance in their lifetimes.
Can you say SIXTY-TWO AMENDMENTS?
When you consider that Snowe, Collins and Lieberman did indeed work on th e writing of the bill (clearly covered in great detail by the news media - including FOX News -during the process...
....and that there were sixty-two Republican amendments in the bill....
Doesn't it seem to be just a little ridiculous, and plainly disingenuous, to insist that this was a bill foisted on the world by Democrats with no involvement by Republicans?
Come on Kirby! Can't you do better than that?
Nice spin Dr. Tom...What part of the bill? How many pages? Wasn't what they did part of the committee they were on? Do you know how much was actual Repub input or were they just there at the scene of the crime? I am not sure..but maybe you have more insight..
Well Doc -
Snow and Collins voted against the final bill because what was originally written wasn't what was passed. Snow and Collins both vote with the dems a lot so they obviously weren't happy with the final version. Lieberman has always voted with the dems except on the war. He is not and has never been a repub. If the bill was so great why did Reid have to bribe other senators to pass it through the senate?
62 amendments on a 2700 page bill is not bipartisan. It is a sham.
It is disingenuous to say that this is any way shape or form a republican bill. The dems are going to have to sink or swim on this in November. Right now they are drowning.
Kirby, each amendment included many, many pages of detailed explanation, so its incorrect to assume that there are 62 pages of republican information, and 2600 pages of democratic information.
However, you are correct in not calling this a 'republican bill', despite significant portions being republican. The reason is... Democrats got it done! It would have been nice if one of the many republican administrations of the last two generations could have done something about the health care problem.
You're right James. They got it done. They got it done by bribery and vote buying, but they got it done.
Now we'll see if the American people are happy with the end result. It is a given that the dems will lose seats in November, off year elections always do that. It will be telling to see how many seats they lose. Right now, it looks like they will lose their house majority. Would you agree that if that happens that it would be a referendum on the bill? I would if it turns out the other way.
Don't get me wrong. I am unhappy with the repubs as well, but they aren't responsible for this bill.
Good point, kirby. I'm not sure whether the economy or health care will play more of a factor in November voting. We'll find out when we get there, I guess!
If the economy hasn't gotten better by November you'll probably see a landslide for the repubs. I understand the stock market is stable, etc, but the reality is, the meat and potato issues like jobs and foreclosures and the inablity to get credit, are what will drive the elections. If there hasn't been discernable progress on those fronts the dems are in deep trouble.
Even if the public is okay with health care they will vote their pocket books. At the moment they are broke and somebody stole their wallets.
The stock market may be stable for now, but have you watched the bond market which is a good indication that things aren't good at all and a harbinger of what is to come.
