"Respect" should be in a class by itself because it is! It represents the heart and soul of the USA...the fact that it's a commercial isn't even a factor.

The nothin' but Net series was the best series, but IMO the Apple/1984 commercial - by Ridley Scott! - is just brilliant and the single best. AND it was only run once on national TV back then. That so many people would remember it so vividly speaks to its impact.

Agree with previous poster that it set the tone for ads to come - it had feature-film-worthy sets and special effects.

Monster stands out for me as #2 because of its deceptive simplicity - and its subliminal message - what are we really, really teaching our kids by our example? Yikes.

All in all, though, a good Top Ten. Positioning is always open to debate.

There is slated to be an updated version of the 'The Showdown' with Dwight Howard and LeBron James with an appearnce from Larry Bird. All for McDonald's...again!

In respect to the Apple Macintosh introduction ad, at the time it was named "Big Brother." The obvious target was IBM and its PC line. Folk should remember that in those years, IBM's corporate culture was painfully close to the concept of "big brother."

Herding Cats is my favorite commercial of all time but it fails as an ad--I have no idea whatsoever who the ad was for. But that commercial is the funniest thing ever.

It doesn't get any better or classier!!

The Clydesdales are equal to the nobility of the American spirit.

The Spirit commercial was something special by a great American Company that sadly is now foreign owned.

Respect buy a mile. 9/11 changed us all. it changed all our lives, long lines at airports, war in iraq/afganishtan, homeland security and soon full body scans. This ad marks the day that life changed in this great country, while at the same time paying tribute to the victims who lost their lives as we as a country lost bit of our freedom. After seeing this ad again, everything else just seemed so trivial.

Clydesdales "Respect" Commercial is the best. It should win, "Hands Down."

This brought tears to my eyes & made me proud to be an American, just thinking & remembering 9/11/01.

How beautiful to watch the Clydesdales show respect for those who lost their lives on that fateful day.

The Clydsdales are always the best commercials. This is a fav. 2 others come to mind: The dalmation helping the horse train to become the leader of the team and the dalmation playing stick throw with the owner and then the horse goes a gets a BIG stick!

The best ad was in 1997. It was the Nissian Pigeon ad.  See it on you tube and laugh to you fall over.
