Chris Dodd is an embarrassment and should be removed from Congress.
They all need to be removed and replaced with hard working blue collar workers who don't belong to a labor union.
Golly, Beaver, doesn't the U.S. Constitution provide for the removal of officials through a process called "ELECTIONS"?????????? Like the ones in 2006 and 2008 that rejected the Republicans???
Damn and here I thought we were going to have to burn them out. But the way it's starting to look Washington might just implode.
Auditing the Federal Reserve is the most important thing we can do right now. Its high time their funny-money operation be exposed. Lets get back on track to fiscal responsibility and sound money!
Angry Congress lashes out at Obama..
Wow, so all the anger they reserved for Bushthey now direct at Obama? Wherewere these Idiots during the failed, horrible Bush years?
ElephantRider wrote:

Lol, good question. Back then when Bush threatened them with his famous, "Either you're with me or agains' me," Congress got too scared and dumbfounded to lash out at anything he screwed up.
Notice how silent Congress was when Bush spent us into deficit oblivion.
The best defense is a great offense....and this congress is very offensive. They can't do much right and only can revert to yelling and crying about how lousy the president is. Isn't that childish? Whether Republican of Democrat our government isn't working.
This group or a newly elected replacement class wouldn't be any better. How in hell can we, as the American people, expect the disastrous economic crimes to be fixed and corrected in 10 months?? Has anyone in our 300+ million residents lifted a finger to help with a recovery or even supported it?
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. (esecially if they flaunt their old carcasses as if they were young enough to think straight) It is very hard to have a positive outlook, but we have to find a way to erase the negative attitude that surrounds us.
Golly, Beaver, doesn't the U.S. Constitution provide for the removal of officials through a process called "ELECTIONS"??????????
Good response, marinevet. But it does seem no matter who gets voted out or voted in that nobody in Washington D.C. has the brains to find their ass with a road map.
What you people with Bush Derangement Syndrome aren't getting, is that in those elections in 06/08 people were elected because the American citizens wanted something DIFFERENT than Bush. Bush of his "my way or the highway" mentality, Bush of his excessive spending, Bush of his ever-growing government.
What did the people of this country get? MORE OF THE SAME.
It doesn't matter what party is responsible, except that some of you apologists are toeing the party line to the extent that you refuse to see that doing the same thing - which is what this administration is doing via big spending, big government - and expecting a different result is insanity.
So of course Congress is imploding. They've been imploding for several months, while the Democrats self-righteously blame the Republicans (who don't have enough power in either house to actually effect anything) while rolling around on the floor pulling each other's hair over which way to best fleece one segment of the American people to give to another segment and get themselves reelected.
Newsflash: They ALL fail, R & D alike.
And what is this crap about captiulating to a minority caucus, by hijacking legislation that will benefit the entire country, over something totally and admittedly unrelated? The entire COUNTRY needs jobs, not just blacks. But screw everyone, unless the black caucus gets their way then nothing else gets done?
Conservatives and Republicans, and moderate Democrats, have been hollaring for MONTHS about taking a different approach with the stimulus spending - an approach that would actually WORK. But no one listened, until the black caucus hollars? What a bunch of crap.

The Bush deficit when he left office was a little over $400 billion, Hussein has quadrupled that in less than a year. Yes Bush spent way to much but it is a drop in the bucket compared to your savior
Nice try - The Black Caucus is not standing up to Obama. The piece they are holding up is the audit of the Fed Reserve which O does not want either. I would call that SUPPORT of Obama.
Geithner is in an appointed position. He was appointed by Obama. He is doing a terrible job and should step down. This idiot will not do so though. Even after being confronted for not paying his taxes this fool refuses to quit. About time Our representatives started representing!!! As far as editing the fed goes. This should be an open and ongoing process. They shouldn't have to put a bill together for this. I do salute the ones who put it together though.
Sorry I meant to say auditing above.

Thats just a fact and it really galls idiots that their Savior is making mistakes, over and over, and over again.
It's far too late to fix. The damage done to our country and economy by both parties is irreversible. The final implosion and resulting breakup is inevitable. It's just a matter of when.
It's not Geitner, it's his boss and Congress, the very same clowns that are calling for his resignation. But, hey, things are about to get better because they'll pass the health care bill, take our money for five years without giving us anything in return, and they'll spend it on unemployment benefits to try to placate all those people they'll be putting out of work. Maybe I'm over reacting, but I see an American Bastille Day on the horizon, guillotine and all.
" China's practices of keeping their currency low agaisnt the dollars..."
"... the Fed's operations, including its decisions on interest rates and its transactions with foreign central banks."
"...carry out Treasury's bailout programs and other federal efforts to resolve the financial crisis. The government has contracted out much of the work to Wall Street firms."
"... Shelby said Dodd was wrong not to conduct an investigation into the causes of the recent financial crisis before pushing forward with legislation. He said rather than ending the problem of institutions that are "too big to fail," the current bill expands the government's ability to bail out big banks."
These are just tidbits taken from the article that actually sum up much of the problems. Talk of "free trade" with China... both markets are manipulated, by both countries, as if it were a chess game with our lives. No one to trust, mass sell-out of our production jobs to a third world wage and living conditions while we're expected to compete and consume; either live third world here in the States or give in, right? Fair competition...
The Illegal Federal Reserve's manimpulative powers, connections to and being part of the international bankers that profit through these deregulated, no-controls sellouts of corporations to third world wage countries while having us consume these crap products and prices that are of those of developed nations... profiteering, anyone? To boot, the government gives oversight of financial responsibilities to the same financial institutions that gain BY being bailed out and selling out, that give bonuses WITH tax payer money; talk of auditing the Fed while promoting a bill that gives this corrupt entity MORE POWER THAN IT CURRENTLY HAS.
Too much bull, no real representation in government, all get the point.... it's not just this sell-out administration, but those before it as well. This one just happened to do us the favor of making it all more than obvious.
No more blue or red, we need true representation. Not career welfare recipients manipulating our lives, our careers, our economy, all to the tune of their gains and our (Middle Class) continued losses. This majority, the Middle Class, is abused by both blue and red because we're their largest drawing pool. At least we were......
Amazing - politicians actually criticizing Obama'sadministration... Wow the honeymoon must really be over and now we're into the blame game. Even democrats risking loosing the golden connection to Obama. Fools gold must be tarnishing...
Excellent post, PragmaticToAFault.
elephant,
The deficit was no where near where it is now, with Bush...remember Bush was running 2 wars and the last 2 years the Dems had Congress....Obama in less than 1 year has spent more money than Bush did in all 8 years.......what an idiot!
---and then to PRISON.
Our government is controlled by foreign agents through these entrenched committee chairs. Their loyalties reside not with the United States.
It's time to recycle congress.
China IS manipulating currency....they see it as a way to protect Chinese interest. America should get back in that position as well. We can't however, because we pay China 50 bil. per month to hold our debt. The equivalent would be us going to our mortgage company with a list of demands while 3 months behind on pmt.
Turbo tax tim should never have been hired, should have been fired long ago, should resign or be removed TODAY.
Chief doesn't have to; here's my one line, see my post above.
The only recovery is in the stock market, not the bond market, or the housing market, or the job market, or any other market.
Billions thrown out the window and only a few reaping the rewards. They stole America during the last election and we want it back!!!!!
dale -
The Republicans have NO POWER in Congress. NONE. If the Democrats could agree on the best way to rob one segment of the population to give (again) to another segment to guarantee their reelection, there is NOTHING the Republicans could do to stop them. They might slow them down, but stop? No.
Re-read the article. Democrats have had it with Obama too.
Opposing parties exist for the purpose of - opposing. The Republicans are attempting to do what they were elected to do - opposing policies with which they disagree.
Just like the Democrats did for the first six years of Bush's presidency, and just like they will do again when they loose their majorities next year, due to five years of malfeasance.
What can you expect? Timothy Geithner is and was a supreme tax cheat who blamed his owing thousands of dollars in taxes on Turbo Tax. Either he was a cheat or he was too dumb to run a simple computer program...either way, he should never have been put into that office. He is another corrupt person who Obama tends to lean toward...birds of a feather flock together, just look at Obama's cabinet and czars...corrupt, corrupt, cheats, marxists, etc. and don't forget Pelosi, Reid, Dodd, Franks, Reid...vote them out in 2010. Anyways, you can't trust Geithner because he looks like a Romulin (Star Trek) and they can never be trusted.
Obama's house of cards is beginning to come apart. The American people are white hot mad at this administration, and this crop of Congressmen. We are tired of the LIES, the smoke and mirror shows. The TRILLION dollars programs that dont work, but the administration tries to LIE it's way out, by telling us all the NEW jobs, saved or created. Now they want us to take, hook, line, and sinker this Health Care package. In less than a week, we see the Senate has it's own 2,000+ bill, and will give the American people, oh 72 hours to look over it. (Yet not a word about their own private health care plans, all 52 different ones to chose from. They by the way keep them for life, with the tax payer funding them.) Senator Ried has added abortion, free care for illegals, CUTS in Medicare to the elderly and poor. This house of cards is self-destructing...and the funny thing about it, they are doing it all by themselves. From civil trials in New York, to spending billions remodeling prisons in Obama's home state to house high max terrorists. Gotta love these guys in way, because they are so stupid, so inept, they don't even realize it!!!!!!
It is time someone with moral's spoke up for the American people. It doesn't matter who started all this, Bush or Obama. The Federal Reserve needs to answer to the people thru it's government. They have to have accountabilty to someone. Not just the president. That is why we elect people from our states to make sure the people are taken care of. That crooks cannot and will not take advantage of their job to rob our nation and tax payers.
It is time to bring our money home!!! To quit making other nations rich. All the money we spend over seas and giving away weapons could make this nation great again or at least independent and free from Foriegn Debt.
Next year will be a good start to remove the dead weight and corrupt that are our representatives.
Dale:
"step away from the Kool-aid"
the politicos are now wanting to throw Geithner under the bus to placate the jobless masses ... what a bunch of snivling cowards ... they all should be tossed off a bridge some place.
Obama is taking steps to fix the economy and the Repubs are fighting him every step of the way
Dale, Now switch "Obama" with "Bush", and "Repubs" with "Libretards", and then you would be looking in the mirror.
lets see the Republicans do something besides try to get re-elected
The democrats want to give everthing to Illegal Mexican immigrants (Subsidized housing, free healthcare, education) so they will vote democrat, isn't that the same thing?
Just two cents from and Independent who did not vote with either party. All of you voted for change and still you got the same thing. As I read in the above comments about Bush mentality it my way or the highway attitude. It is the same way with this adminstration too but worse they are willing to go after the consitution. So while you continue to have a blind eye with what is going on things are going to get much worse for the United States of America considering in my lifetime Repubs may be for the rich but the Dems have created the I am owed and entitled for the last 40 years the latter is what has come home to roost. I can say these things because I grew up in Michigan near Detroit saw the seeds be sown and now has come to fruitation.
BTW as you want to cotinue to blame the last administration for the problems it is a combination of years since 92 is the reason things are what they are and as far blame YOU CAN BLAME BOTH PARTIES Because the financial woes we are under Was SIGNED BY President Clinton to remove the safety net set in place by FDR and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (which I believe both are round By Senator Dodd and Senator Franks who are democrats).
Yeah this is really big Change we got Chicago style Politics and a really good used car salesman that never once said during the whole campaign what he was going to do other than he used the word CHANGE.
Chief901,
You said, "don't know if you noticed, and apparently you have not noticed, but the Honorable G.W. Bush served two terms, was term-limited and is no longer President of the United States"
I agree, but also wondered if you noticed where these individuals with all the major attacks live? I would like to hear information from an individual other than the Texas crowd. They are from almost solid fundamentalist Republican districts and are playing to their voters.
I am a Conservative but I am not a Fundamentalist and am not interested in their opinion. We have all heard it and only the Limbaugh crowd are buying it. That is about 6% of the population and located in the same areas.
beanne,
What has that money been spent on? We need people to start seeing both sides in order to fix this problem. Those with only one eye are walking in circles. I don't care what stupid political party the people are trying to sell, I want the problem fixed. States, Cities, and people are starting to hurt, it is time for the political games to stop. Blaming one party for this mess is very simple and just adding to the problem.
"Geithner took care of his cronies in the financial sector" is what the headline should have been. Geithner should step down, but when he's doing exactly what Obama wants him to do, why should he?
To all the fools who want to blame everything on Bush, spending went crazy the last two years of his term. Funny how it coincides with the dems gaining the majority in the House and Senate, coupled with Bush trying to be bi-partisan.....
This administration is trying to prove people right when they say, "you can't borrow and spend your way out of debt or a recession."
Auditing the Federal Reserve? LONG OVERDUE! How about abolishing it too, along with the IRS!
It's not helping our economy when nobama is handing our tax money to other countries and to companies who just divide it up between their executives. Get our money back!! Nobama and his dimocrooks ... bad for the US, good for other countries.
Beanne,
I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. Bush had a deficit of $459 billion with $13 trillion in national debt by Dec. 2008. The cost of the wars were never figured into the budget as they were requested through supplemental and emergency funding. Obama included the costs in his budgets. Also, the TARP (bailout) was signed into law at the end of FY2008 (Oct. 7, 2008), thus the $700 billion tab was not accounted until FY2009 (so guess who gets the credit for that debt, even though he wasn't even elected), the only spending that was signed into law by Obama was the stimulus package and the jury still out on that almost 80% of the money is allocated through FY2012. Include the 27% of lost national revenue because of tax cuts with the increased spending and it is not hard to see why the deficit for FY2009 was 4x larger than the preceeding year. If you want me to sight sources: GAO website, the CBO (not just this year but reports from 2007 until now (since the recession was "officially" recognized in 2007). If you disagree with me, then simply tell me or show me what spending has Obama signed into law since being elected. Don't tell me about cap-n-trade or healthcare b/c those are proposals - not law. I know you'll probably call me an apologist, but the truth is I don't care for either party as both sides have played a role into nation's current state of affairs - from Clinton signing NAFTA to Bush's non-regulation of the markets. However, I will not be so blinded by anger to not give an honest assessment of how we arrived to this point, nor be so naive to think that whoever was in office (McCain included) would have been able to turn this economy around in less than 10 months - especially when the full effects of the recession weren't even taking place until January of this year.
He needs to be strung up, all the frosting has melted away before we could start eating this finely baked cake.
I remember 30 yrs ago when I bought my first piece of crap, the US economy is like a stray dog trying to cross an interstate plus we can't rely on anyone to help fix or manipulate it..!
This entire administration is an embarresment, tax cheats, communists, people who look to Mao for inspiration, people that love Chavez and Castro, Union sympathizers........Can you, for a minute, imagine if GW Bush had these people surrounding him???
What is REALLY scary are the voters who defend this administration and their actions.
How long will it be before we come a colony of China? And begin to fly the Chinese flag over the White House and Capital?
Dodd and Frank are as much to blame for the financial meltdown as the Wall Street greedy. Now they want power over the federal reserve. No way. We have seen what their power over Freddie and Fannie brought us.
Let's give New England to Canada.
The Black Caucus seems to be implying that our African-American President is not givng more "free programs and money" to his fellow African-Americans. Could it be that they are finally realizing that the person they elected President does not have they ability or knowledge to be President? ? It appears that the 1st (and last) Black President is less than what was expected and now the Black Caucus wants taxpayers to subsidizee more unqualified African-Americans to clean up the mess. Bottom line - the jobs should go to those qualified regardless of color - not guarantees for any one ethnic group. This time it's about who has the ability not who is the "right color". Black America, the free ride is over and your poster person has screwed up everything he's touched.
PragmaticToAFault
You hit the nail on the head. Why do special interest groups gum up the works? The blacks say that whites are racist all the time, so how can anyone who is black defend the Black Caucus in any way. Maybe all the whites in congress should become the White Caucus - see how this promotes racism. I believe that the Black Caucus should be disbanded since it can be viewed as a racist group.
Every one in our government needs to be replaced!!! Re elect no one!!!!
tim-1157322:

Tim-1157322, you seem far too intelligent to be playing the "he's a Terrorist card." Talk money and Human lives. By the way my savior's initials are J.C.
Now, assuming your Bush deficit figure is accurate you're not telling me that Congress not lashing out at Bushe's $400 Billion dollar deficit was just fine? $400 Billion dollars is not a drop in any bucket!
There are 120 Countries whose entire Budget will never come close to that amount. And if you say Congress should have lashed out back then, well you've made my point.
Chris Dodd should be removed from the Planet
Lest we all forget, it was the Republican deregulations over the past 40 years that put us in this current economic crisis. How dare those idiots in Congress accuse this administration and Geithner when THEY are the ones who are still holding up the appointments to fill all of the remaining posts in Treasury. Treasury is operating at what, half staff or less in the top positions? When you expect one person to do the job of 20 or more, things don't always get done in a speedy and "consistent, cohesive" manner. Why? Because you don't have time to step back and take a look at the effect of one decision upon another, especially when dealing with multiple crises. PLUS, when you have regulatory functions split between multiple agencies with NO master oversight by anyone other than the incompetent Congress and too many loopholes in that regulatory system, you are ripe for this kind of discontent and mistakes. That is the one thing that I agree with Frank and Dodd on.....get us to ONE regulatory agency for ALL financial transactions (including insurance, since that IS part of the financial market, as well as WS/stock brokers.) The Fed should be just what they are.....the central bank for providing money to all of the other banks. The can't and shouldn't also be the regulator of those same banks and they need to be under the same regulations as everyone else in the financial system.
The problem is that the entire financial system, as well as Congress, the Administration, and too many corporations are under the total control of the Illuminati and its several other related organizations. Bush 41 IS a member of the Illuminati, as were many of our other presidents/VP's. It is also interesting to note that almost every president in the past 70 years has also been a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and ALL republican presidents/VP's have been members of the Bohemian Club, another secret society that is a "power control" and "one world order" organization.
It is also interesting to note that every president in the past century who was NOT a Mason was either a one-term president or died in office or removed from office and replaced by a Masonic VP. We, the common citizens have NO control over our lives in this country because our founding fathers were also almost all Masons/Illuminati. Most of our government symbols are of Masonic origins. The numbers 13 and 33 play prominently in every major federal action and those two numbers are at the heart of the Masonic traditions.
Do a little research people, and you will begin to see why our elections are truly rigged, not by ACORN, but by the Masons/Illuminati. No matter who we elect (unless we can get every Mason voted out of office), we will have NO control over the government or our lives.
BTW, yes, Geithner is also a member of the Illuminati and attended the Bilderberg Meeting in 2008, along with Bernanke, Paulson, and most of the rest of the members of the Fed and Treasury at that time.
I see one major flaw in the amendment to audit the Fed Reserve and that is that it be done by the Government itself. I feel this is asking for corruption and it should be turned over the National Association for CPA's with a random choice of CPA's to perform it not to be disclosed to the present administration or any other administration and answering to the Congressional Finance Committee to be disclosed in its entirety to the entire Congress in full.
I'm sure Obama and Pelousi will try to null and void this some way but I'd say that they would be taking their political careers to a death sentence if they do.
ah! excuse me mr. waters. ! i believe senator dodd has the title senator, not congressmen. can't be both places at once.your post says removed from the congress?
lets see, the only thing Geithner did, was continue the policy handed down by the Bush administration, that was approved by this congress
but it's all his and Obama's fault, how oddly hypocritical
odd how people who complain about socialism wants the government to create jobs, how oddly hypocritical
odd how these congress persons who have created all the problems find others to blame for their misgivings and how they have so many idiots following and supporting them
this 10 month administration did not create these problems and are trying to fix what these people created and left for him to fix, odd how Bush and the right-wing zanies blamed Clinton for over 2 years for everything but Obama is responsible for everything within 10 months
after the last bailout of these crooks everyone sat back using their homes as ATM's and watching the false market being created and said nothing but , now everyone is such geniuses who have all the answers
amazing how everyone with all the answers now are the very people who created and allowed these problems to manifest, of course they know how stupid the American people have become and all they have to do is say a few words and they can get their mindless zealots to take the heat off of them where it belongs.
amazing how all these congressmen and governor's who have done nothing to create jobs and in fact have allowed all the jobs to disappear are blaming two people who have only been in their positions for 10 months for all their failures.
then again why not, they have you to carry their torches
Truthbtold-530139
Best post of the day. Well thought out. Audit the fed and follow the money. That always leads to the truth about everything.
gloria, CONGRESS is made up of the House and Senate. It really is a misnomer when we refer to Representatives as Congressmen vs. Senators for the other side of the building.
I think it is time for Obama to throw Geitner under the bus. And then reverse it and run over Bernanke.
For Obama to have hired this freak in the first place. Why can't these "advisory" boards to the incoming pOTUS do a better job of vetting these people???
And 2010 and 2012 can't get here soon enough!!!
The representative from Texas is correct, "for the sake of our jobs, will you step down?" TOOOOOO late, your heads are on the chopping block already. My prayer is, as Marine Vet states, that all corupt politicians be voted out!! May the electorate pull their heads from where the sun don't shine and vote smart!!!!
And may all the young folks out there, again, listen to the people who have been around for awhile, listen to their tales of corrupt politicians and go vote wisely!! AND for all of our sakes, DON'T VOTE COLOR...
VOTE CHARACTER!!!
This only proves what I say all the time. They are all criminals. You can not get any where in the US political sysyem today and not be dirty. You start as a crooked lawyer who blackmales and bribes his way up. If you want to clean up our political system yo have to start fresh and start eliminating form the top. The higher you are the more you have stolen and bribed your way up. Look at the last two Presidents and you have your proof.
The only wise vote any more is to cast a NO VOTE. There is no such thing as Vote Character any more, since all of the politicians are corrupt, either before they even run, or within six months of being elected.
"Federal officials and many private economists worry that the amendment could make future central bank policymakers reluctant to take unpopular steps to prevent inflation or support the economy for fear of second-guessing by Congress and government auditors."
And when the Fed fails to react properly to curtail Inflation in a year or two because of interference by the Democrats for political reasons, Congress will blame them again. POLITICIZING THE FED WILL LEAD TO DISASTEROUS CONSEQUENCES.
Steve -
You don't get it, and probably never will.
Because you don't understand that people did NOT approve of Bush's handling of many, many things.
Because you don't understand that Obama is doing the same things Bush did.
Because you don't understand that does NOT constitute change.
Because you don't understand that we don't want the government to "create jobs". We want them to get the HE!! out of the way, so private industry can creat jobs, like it has always done before when government gets out of the way.
You ain't seen nuth'n yet.
The American public is fed up with these useless self indulgent legislators, recalls are in the works, referendums are going to become a point in fact and the push to put the laws back on the books is going to become a imperative. If you want to restore the Constitution to put the limits back in place to stop this government from taking over your lives, you have no choice. This can be done in a civil argumentive way or we can sink into civil war and possible dictatorship. We need to right the ship of state, she is listing dangerously to the left.
We have allowed the morons to govern, this un-credentialed clown and his lackeys who are nothing but a huge liability, they either are so repulsivley ignorant of tradition, history and civics or they are the most devious group of freedom haters ever to be allowed access to leadership. We now have in place all the items that our heritage, the man in the tri cornered hat with the musket was ask to put his life on the line for. The lack of respect, the lack of moral clarity, the willingness to take from those who spent their lives earning the American dream has become the hue and cry of those who understand the loss of dignity and tolerance by the use of diversity and political correctness. We Americans are on the brink of becoming a endangered species and to this gang of thugs in this massive government, that is what their goal is.
All you FOX tongue waggers, pick up those American history books and read them out loud, America needs a reminder of where they came from.
Treasury is operating at what, half staff or less in the top positions?
Anti, So why haven't they "put people to work" in these positions?
the only thing Geithner did, was continue the policy handed down by the Bush administration
Steve, If it is Bush's fault, why are they continuing his policies?
odd how people who complain about socialism wants the government to create jobs, how oddly hypocritical
Wanting the govt. to stimulate job growth is a far cry from cradle to grave entitlements. Many of my customers require Govt. Grants to fund R & D projects, but they are not receiving them. So I ask, who's getting the stimulus funds?
amazing how all these congressmen and governor's who have done nothing to create jobs and in fact have allowed all the jobs to disappear are blaming two people who have only been in their positions for 10 months for all their failures.
Congress and the president share the blame for outsourcing jobs to other countries. What have they done in the 10 months to prevent the jobs from disappearing? What have they done in the 9 yrs. to prevent the jobs from disappearing? They only care about their own jobs.
Audit the fed...
Why not abolish the fed...?
Alan, You need to be directing that at the State he represents and its electorate. To get on a board and say this, is meaningless. All the rhetoric doesn't help nor accomplish anything.

..Bush served two terms, was term-limited..
From January 21, 2009 to the present 0bama is in charge of good, bad or indifferent..
..that goes without saying but apparently you still haven't noticed that two terms or not Bush then left some incredible, monumental mess for his predecessor to contend with, regardless of who that person is.
Somehow you failed to notice that to fix an eigth-year mess will require time and co-operative effort from both sides of the isle. But you expect quick and ready packaged solutions this minute, now!. All the while wishing and praying that the Honourable President Barack Obama would fail just so you score political points. Keep fooling yourselves.
I have a question for those of you who have allowed your passion for Obama, and hate for Bush to blur sound thinking. It goes without saying that the last two years of Bushes Presidency were not that great and many issues that we now face... Began there. However, you have mentally blocked the fact the the US Congress was under control of the Democrats in those two years.
So, my question is this... "are you REALLY that removed from reality because of your distaste for one person, and absolute love of another, that you are willing to allow the one you love to continue on a path that has obviously not led to ANY kind of tangible of recovery?"
I know there is a group out there who will follow Obama to the gates of hell... and you may have to. But, those of you who have a bit more mental resolution then to follow blindly... take a look at the FACTS..
*** The 4 trillion dollar stimulus plan that was jammed down Americas throat has been an abject failure, we are already hearing about money that has disappeared and fake/incorrect saved or created jobs... where there is smoke...there is fire.
***This President promised...No... GUARANTEED, Transparency in his administration, yet even the New York Times, perhaps the most Liberal Newspaper in America has said it has been OPAQUE at the absolute best. Folks, this was no quick remark Obama made one day on the campaign trail... it was a PRIMARY CAMPAIGN PROMISE... he ran he Presidency campaign BASED on doing this. Every bill he has placed in front of us as a Nation he has done so at the end of a sword...every time telling us "If we do not do this NOW... the world will crash around us"..so, we did... and it still is. His plan is working GREAT....for Him...and HIS agendas.
*** Most of the actions this President has said would create jobs in fact has cost them. Proof is in the numbers. Businesses are running scared of Obama.. they do not trust his judgement and do not trust his policy... and we as a Nation are paying for that distrust with OUR JOBS. Now.. those who think Obama can do no wrong blame the companies... why? They are the ones on the hook... not him... He will likely be gone in 4 years and THEY will be stuck with his ideas running THEIR corporations... would YOU really trust ANYONE with you company? If you trust Obama that much... you have not read this far.
*** He has failed thus far to turn the heads of foreign leaders to accept his sweeping financial and environmental plans... and in fact has frightened many of them with HIS SPENDING SPREES. Bowing and groveling is NOT Foreign policy... it popularity gathering. It is nice to think that others like us...isn't it??? WHO BLOODY CARES??? People liking us does not pay my mortgage and neither does 10 1/2% unemployment rate. If Obama plans on making headway with the foreign policy he is using... he is waiting in vain. Look at history and show me one... just one instance where dealing from a place of weakness ever got anything done. Spending 4 to 7 trillion in 10 Months has placed us in a terrible place of weakness... China... the freaking Chinese are our National bankers for God sake. You don't go there groveling... you take the steps it takes to pay their asses and get them out of our hair. HOW? you say... Free up the markets, propitiate Entrepreneurship, Cut taxes...stop scaring business with sweeping environmental legislation that will cripple them... there is a time and place for everything... its not the appropriate time to begin masses environment changes, leads me to believe there is more behind the environmental movement then just trees and air... a leader who is willing to cripple his Nation even more with changes like this is doing so because there is an agenda... what?... that's another argument. Now is not the time when it comes to being the tree hugging leaders... the rest of the world understands that... why don't we? Want to save the planet?... lets save our Nation and get started...
*** We are losing in Afghanistan... and that @!$%# ain't fair... I was there because America asked me to go.. Iraq also. But, I was allowed to win in my time there. I have spoken to friends who are still there and they tell me the past 8 months have been a disaster. And it starts at the top is what they say to me. They have no direction, they have no mission.... sounds like Obama to me... Obama... either fight to win.. or take the heat and shame of losing and bring my friends home... your politics and polls are costing lives!!!
These are only a few issues that are glaring... Obama is in office for 3 more years and has a chance to change direction... but I applaud those who now have decided to limit the future damage if possible. Just because you assume the same scrutiny did not happen in the last administration... should we limit scrutiny and make the same mistakes in this one??? Should we repeat the mistakes for the sake of FAIRNESS???.. That is crazy thinking fueled by hate of Bush... and should be ignored.
truthtold:
Thanks for the clear-eyed and rational assessment of the Bush debt vs. the Obama debt. And for the calm manner in which you delivered it.
Not nearly enough clear and rational thinking on this board, and way too much yelling.
I don't have to come here for six months and it always stays the same! Consistent ignorance!!!!!!
The one thing I hear over and over again is replacing the elected clowns that have caused this mess on both sides of the isle. When from the beginning of time????
The people will vote them out next election!...........BULL!
Does anyone actually pay attention at the voting booths or is it social hour?
You can’t elect someone out when they constantly run un-opposed whether you vote for them or not........ they win!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can't get rid of the scum when family trees are who you have to choose from. Or vote for! Sperm lottery candidates as usual and forever!
You can't vote any real change when all the ballots are controlled and fixed before you even see them or get to vote on them!
I for one am sick and tired of hearing the same old rhetoric and stupidity of the sheep that have allowed this to happen for generations of both R&D! From the damn top all the way to the bottom!
Change will never happen until the intelligent...hard working..people of the US get off their lazy duffs and put and end to it......aside from that, you can't sit around and @!$%# if your not willing to do anything to solve the never ending problem!!!
Keep flapping...............keep losing ground.....your freedoms...money....and your family tree's future............blah blah blah is all I ever see in here.....when I actually read this stupid forum......which isn't very often...........because like the politicians that screw us over and over................the rhetoric in here gets said over and over and over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This all didn't start yesterday or last year...it's been going on for decades...........the sheep are finally noticing it because now they are affected by it???.................laughable!!!
Oh and let me help you sheep out here.....it's Obama’s fault..... no wait it's George Bush's fault...................no it's your own damn fault....morons!
IT TOOK YOU ALL THIS LONG TO STILL GET IT WRONG!!!!!!!!!! WHEN IT'S BEEN RIGHT THERE UNDER YOUR NOSES FOR GENERATIONS!!!!!!!!!!
THEY SURE BRAINWASHED EVERYONE AND CREATED THIS WONDERFUL TWO PARTY SYSTEM TO DO IT.............. AND........................... IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!
Until you sheep figure out it's not a black...white...republican...democrat...thing It's a corruption thing. You can talk till your blue in the face, and it is still nothing but talk! The damn people that got us in this mess are now going to fix it with our money..............................ROFLMFAO......or maybe they can once again blame a few and throw them to the wolves for our satisfaction ....bah bah bah bah bah!
Feeding time is @ 6 o'clock pm....don't be late.........slaughter is at 8pm! See ya there!!
All those who have been in Congress for over a year are ALSO TO BLAME! They allowed the previous adminstration to HIDE the bills from the two wars. (along with the flag cover coffins) Those BILLIONS of dollars could have been there to buck up or economy. And about the trickle down tax breaks for the rich. Didn't work under Ray-gun. Certainly didn't work under Bushbaby. We are in the shape we are in BECAUSE of BOTH the libs and cons. (mostly cons....they were always using the wrapped in a flag bullying tactic to get their way....just like the unread Patriot Act) Libs just didn't have the backbone to resist cause they believed the crap the Cons spewed!
Change will never happen until the intelligent...hard working..people of the US get off their lazy duffs and put and end to it......
Isn't that an oxymoron? We get 1 vote, to choose one idiot or the other idiot.
Plain and simple, the federal regulations, de-regulations, etc. have all spanned over several years, and administrations, Democrats & Republicans alike. Congress is nothing more than a bunch of attorneys who are thieves and liars, and they have gotten us into this financial mess through decades of horrible policy and legislation -- to fill their own greedy pockets.
Out of all the members in Congress, I trust one person; Ron Paul! He's a medical doctor, very bright, and -- for once -- a member of Congress calls for accountability. If you don't know much about him, he ran for the last election as an Independent (not Republican), and further, he's been calling for an accounting from the Fed for YEARS!
I hope we see more of Ron Paul in the future, and I hope more Independents like him emerge in our next elections. From one humble American, I'm tired of Washington, and I don't trust them. It's time for us to boot most of Congress out the door, and get some people who Answer TO the American people for a change.
In regard to the article, I think Geitner is doing the best job he can do under the circumstances. This whole AIG fiasco started long before he was appointed. So, Congress looks "just plain silly" pointing the finger at him.
ElephantRider "so all the anger they reserved for Bush they now direct at Obama? Where were these Idiots during the failed, horrible Bush years?"
I hate to break it to you, but let's look at some facts;
In 1976, Jimmy Carter touted the "Misery Index" to use as a campaign tool against Gerry Ford. It was derived by adding together the Unemployment and Inflation Rates - two of the broadest measures of "misery" that people had to deal with. Unfortunately for Carter, by the time he was done, the Index had INCREASED by about 50% to an average of 20.27%, and Ronald Reagan took over.
I took a look at the Misery Index on Wikipedia to see how other Presidents had fared, and guess what - BUSH'S RECORD (8.1% Ave.) WAS THE BEST IN THE LAST 40 YEARS - EVEN BETTER THAN BILL CLINTON (8.8%). The link is below;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misery_index_(economics)
Bashing Bush may have been a successful campaign strategy to get the "Inexperienced One" elected, but it's hard to argue with facts.
PS - When Obama's Index starts to include the heavy Inflation that economists say will soon result from the massive spending spree, he may well surpass Carter. It will be hard for him to "Talk" his way out of the problem with flowery rhetoric.
Here are the results of the latest polling from Rasmussen - the most accurate pollster in last year's elections.
"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 27% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -14. When Obama took over in January, it was +30."
"Overall, 47% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. Fifty-two percent (52%) now disapprove. When Obama took over in January, it was 64% approve and 29% disapprove."
I guess "Actions speak louder than Words".
beanne:
..remember Bush was running 2 wars..
beanne, and don't forget that one of those wars was an illicit, contrived Bush family Vendetta which cost over 4,000 American service men and women's lives not to mention hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilian lives.
Oh, you're right, the Iraqi war did add to Bush's National deficit and yes Congress should have lashed out at him then too.
And the Iraqi war is still adding to the deficit to this day. Really sad. But you made my point.
I see the typical Bush bashers are on here...right or wrong, they think they're right.
In case you can't remember the events before Obama took office, it was basically the last year of Bush's term that the economy started deteriorating. Now, it's been almost a year with Obama and there is ZERO improvement. Unless, of course, you count the stock market level as an improvement. If you think the stock market is an indicator that the economy is improving, as Geitner would like you to believe, then you are likely the same people who shouldn't have exercised your right to vote in the last election.
In case you are unaware, the stock market's present level is the only "improvement"...unemployment is up, more companies have gone out of business and the federal deficit has grown since Obama has been in office. As far as the stock market goes, if you get reeled in by the hype that stocks are recovering, you will find that all the people who are "inside traders" will at some strategic point, sell their stocks leaving the rest of you with less than you put in in the first place. Ya, it's illegal to do inside trading, but the big dogs are connected and know days or even weeks before your average investor does, that they should sell, sell, sell! They make millions and you lose millions. Even Madoff knew weeks if not months before he was busted and he started moving money to try to preserve some of what he had. Who do you think let him know?
This is not a Republican or Democrat issue because it is both Republicans and Democrats that are guilty of this type of stuff. The people of this country must understand that the vote must be for the best person for the job. Republican, Democrat, Independent, it doesn't really matter. Voting for color is even more ridiculous than voting for a party, which is partly what happened in this past election. Nothing is a guarantee, but you must do a lot of research before you vote.
We, the people, are responsible for those we put in office. If they do their job, great, if not, we need to unite and either demand that they perform their duties or step down. The people we put in should protect and serve the American people, not kiss the a$$e$ of corporate America, not allow illegal insider trading, not send our troops to needless battles, not shove the "American way" down the throats of the rest of the world.
We need change, just not the change this unqualified president brings to the table.
Additionally, Geitner was highly educated on "The Great Depression". if you look at the history, similar to what is happening now, stocks recovered in the middle of high unemployment. Then, BAMMMMMM! Stocks took a dive as insiders sold all their stocks and millions lost all of their money...the money goes somewhere. You didn't think it just disappears, did you? You purchase stocks in a company and so do thousands of others, maybe millions of others. The stocks go from $1.00 up to $10.00 for example. Then the guy (likely an investor from the companies inception) who owns 1 million shares that he bought at 10 cents finds out that the product the company makes is no good and this will be exposed in two weeks, so he cashes out...that stock tumbles and you lose almost all of your money. Welcome to the stock market! he got richer and you got poorer. Then you lose your job on top of it because the underlying framework of the economy was never repaired. Welcome to the Grea Depression of the 21st century. No, it hasn't happened yet...hopefully it won't. But the chess pieces are lining up for it to happen.
It is our government who is responsible for protecting everyone from this type of thing happening. Yet, in the worst economy in decades, Geitner is happy with the fact that the stock market is "recovering", just as it did before the Great Depression got to it's worst. We need action now!
scarab333 "It's far too late to fix. The damage done to our country and economy by both parties is irreversible. The final implosion and resulting breakup is inevitable. It's just a matter of when."
I fear that you may be right. Consider this;
Are you concerned about the National Debt?
I looked at Obama's Federal Budget for 2010, Tables S-4 and S-14, and found that the Budget "Deficits" are estimated to total $8.549 Trillion over the next 10 years, but the National Debt will increase by $13.304 Trillion over that same 10 years, and will increase to $23.283 Trillion in 2019. THIS IS OBAMA'S OWN BUDGET PROJECTION. Interest is paid on the Debt, not the “deficit”.
Even that is totally understated because he's estimated that the interest rate on the National Debt will average only about 2.4%, but historically (and under Clinton) the interest rate has been about 6.5%, and it got as high as 8.27% under Carter. Also, he's projecting revenue growth at almost twice the historical average of the last 30 years.
If you put realistic historical interest and growth rates into Obama's budget, and he doesn't increase taxes by $7 to $12 Trillion over 10 years (which would devastate the economy), the National Debt could be between $30 Trillion and $38 Trillion in 10 years, and the MONTHLY interest could be over $200 Billion, (It averaged only $31 Billion under Bush and $28 Billion under Clinton). That would require an increase in taxes of about $1,500 per MONTH for a typical family of 4 JUST TO PAY THE INCREASED INTEREST ON THE NATIONAL DEBT.
This out-of-control spending will bankrupt this Country and make our children and grandchildren slaves to foreign debt as long as they live, yet the government just wants to KEEP SPENDING.
IS ANYBODY LISTENING?????
Damn... it would be really great to just reset congress... even then it wouldn't work. Sorry, but when you have whiny little partisan kids scrapping over their favorite toy, playing for the cameras and youtube, you're turning government into tabloid BS. All of this mess is because people like 95% of this board who are insanely partisan one way or another, either, Obama is simply Jesus spelled sideways, or he is the devil incarnate who is currently raping your children. Seriously, if you people had a more reasonable head on you, maybe the elected officials might follow, instead of this clown parade we keep reading about every week
The worst part about this article is the "black" caucus. So I guess white lawmakers should only look out for white peoples interests. Oh no, Wait, that would be racist. HYPOCRITES!!!!!!
Geitner will be the fall guy if finance continues to be frozen or deteriorate. Look for China to demand a change because they don't want their "investment" in the US to be devalued. They have already complained several times.
I doubt the Republican demand for investigation goes far, but that would put a real squeeze on things.
Popeye, you need to check your figures. When Bush left office it wasn't anywhere near 11 trillion dollars. Right now the deficit is 12 trillion. So your saying that Obama has only put us 1 trillion in debt? Obama spent over 1 trillion his first week in office. lol. He's just digging us deeper and deeper everyday. Dude get the blinders off!!!
Anti-trust,
While I do not disagree with the majority of your posts I do want to point out to you and the others who are claiming it was Bush that "deregulated the markets", that you are mistaken. The major cause of the supposed "financial crisis" were "credit default swaps" and "derivatives". Both of these extremely complicated financial devices were created after the savings and loan crash in the late eighties. In the early to mid nineties a division of the SEC saw the disaster these financial devices could/would lead to and attempted to implement some regulation of them. However Clinton and his advisors along Reid, Franks and Dodd went ballistic at the thought of doing this. They went so far as to pass a law barring the regulation of those markets. You can blame Bush for not attempting to repeal the law, but that's all in this case. It is hard to believe that as badly as Bush screwed most everything else up he is not more responsible for this particular scam......
By the way....Do you know who Clintons economic advisers were? Do the names Geithner, Paulson, and Greenspan (among others currently advising Obama) ring any bells? So the same people who refused to allow any regulation of credit default swaps or the derivatives market are now screaming FOR regulation while blaming anyone and everyone else for the problem they knowingly created. (Yea, this is going to work out well) Don't believe me? Look it up.
I'd laugh at all of you if it wasn't so tragic. The American economy isn't like a car that can change directions on a dime, but like a huge ship which, even if you put it in full reverse, will continue forward for several miles.
It didn't take just eight years of the Shrub to get here. It took Unca Ronnie and Pappy Shrub, too. They started the process of giving tax breaks to corporations to move American jobs, predominately union jobs, overseas. This started the destruction of the American middle class, which the right despises as "Money-grubbers". After Clinton, the Shrub just continued that operation, as well as throwing open the doors of the US Treasury and allowing Halliburton, Bechtel, Blackwater, et al, to carry out all they could.
And you expect Obama to fix somkething that started 29 years ago in just a few months?
Let's start it right. Call Halliburton and tell them we want everything they stole back. Then on to each of the other war profiteers. Then we save money on security for the Shrub and Dick by putting them in secure quarters such as Ft. Leavenworth Federal Pen. Before too long we would be better off financially. Especially after institution of a 99% tax on incomes over 10 million dollars.
This is what it would take. Are you willing to do it? Or go back to blaming unions for everything like the Got Ours Party?
As well as Barney Frank
When did the US get a third branch of Congress? House, Senate, and Black Caucus? If this economy and job loss keep going the way it is, the USA won't have to worry about illegal immigrant looking for work, Mexico and Canada will.
Maybe this is Pres. O solution to distribution of wealth.
Someone in Congress needs to do something to stop Obama and his tax-cheat minions from using the Fed as their own private piggy bank.
Meanwhile you have the kool-aid drinkers on here screaming the same "where were you when Bush..." crap, while Daddy-O, Pelosi, Frank, Geithner and the rest of the demo-thugs force all this ObamaCare and Cap and Tax legislation to further destroy what's left of the economy.
I've got a newsflash for you Obamabots. Bush is gone. Your messiah has been in charge for a year now and things keep getting worse and worse under him. Unemployment keeps rising and so does our debt. Daddy-O needs to be reined in before he destroys the economy completely. Something he seems heII bent on doing
This isn't a game. If Obama and his cronies can't handle it, which they obviously can't, they need to get out of the way and let people with some economic sensibilities take over. All dems know how to do is spend money on useless government programs. I guess the foolishness under Obama will finally end when we run completely out of money and unemployment is at an unprecedented historic high...
And we seem to be fast approaching that point.
I find it completely amazing that the people who are most responsible for the policies that put us in this mess are calling for someone else's head! They all need to effin go, I'm not happy with Geithner myself but I am more upset with the Senators, Representatives and President that parked us in this mess. These stupid F*cks need to GO!
almost a complete partisan attack as usual. what do you expect from a party who handed obama the mess. bush finished up his first 4 years with a net loss of jobs for the country. that was the first time since the hoover administration that it happened. that after inheriting the best financial position for the country in its history. republicans have shown they neither care are have no idea on how to run our economy. so if they are criticizing obama , we must be on the right track.

You mean the same Congress we have now? How is Bush's alleged threat any different than Pelosi saying anyone who is against Obama's policies is "Unamerican.? Or the director of Homeland Security labeling people who disagree with Obama as radical right wing extremists?
What hole have you been sticking your head in to hide from this one simple fact: POTUS Obama has spend more and accomplished less with the money spent than any POTUS in recent history before him. Bush only spent half of the $700 billion Congress (the same Democratically controlled congress we have now for the most part) and left the rest for Obama. Obama got another $887 Billion in a stimulus package all his own and to top it all off the federal deficit has more than doubled in less than one year since Obama took office.
I am not defending Bush. He made mistakes and plenty of them, But at least he was "man enough" to admit his mistakes and not blame them on the prior POTUS as Obama is doing. Here are a couple of examples for you: As we all know the 9/11 attack happened on Bush's watch right? What many don't know is that in Clinton's last 6 months in office he reduced the intelligence gathering community's budget by 38% effectively crippling their ability to foresee/prevent 9/11. In spite of this Clinton was warned about the pending 9/11 attack while he was still POTUS and decided to do nothing. Did Bush blame it all on Clinton? NO he took charge and took the fight to the terrorist's homeland. Example #2. Bush had received faulty intell that Iraq had WMD's when the truth was found out he went before the American public and admitted he as Commander in Chief had made a mistake.
Now we move on to current times and POTUS Obama: Air Force One escorted by two fighter jets does a low fly over NYC scaring the crap our of people and all for a publicity stunt! Air Force One does not leave the ground for any reason unless the POTUS knows about it first and gives written authorization. Does Obama admit he made a mistake? NO one of his lackey's has to throw himself under the bus to save face for his glorious leader and all Obama says is "I didn't know." Not only a pathetic excuse but an outright lie to boot! His pastier of 20 years is suddenly found to be a very outspoken hater of America. Obama's response "I didn't know" and he publicly threw him under the bus as well.
I could go on an on and Obama has been in office less than one year to date. The bottom line is that in spite of his faults we were more prosperous and safer under Bush than we ever will be under Obama. McCain was wrong when he said "Obama is an empty suit." McCain sadly underestimated Obama and his agenda to "reshape America" into his America that he can be proud of. If you still aren't convinced ask yourself this one question: Why is the passing of Cap & Trade & Health Care (both of which will result in Obama gaining control of and increasing taxes on most all Americans) such an emergency to get passed this year, yet creating jobs and a business friendly environment where people can get back to work are a low priority? Anyone with half a brain can not see this type of action from the Obama Administration and believe that he truly wants what is best for America.
One last piece of FYI: Did you know that in the 2,000 plus page health care bill as it currently is written, is a provision that the Health Care Director can and his or her discretion, remove you from your current health care plan and place you on one that they deem more suitable for you? Don't take my word for it, be informed and read it for yourself and see the new, broad and undefined powers this will give the Obama Administration over your daily life via health care. Don't quote me on the page but I believe it was page #118 or somewhere in that area. You will also notice that Congress, their families and staff and POTUS Obama, his family and staff are exempt from the effect of this bill. I wonder, if it is good enough for Americans in general, why is it not good enough for them???
It is becoming clearer everyday that Obama's vision of America is an America with little to know free will or free enterprise (privately owned businesses). These are the very foundations that made this country strong and Obama is systematically destroying them one by one. Example" Forced Health Care. Your freedom to chose is gone as is a part of your free will. God gave us free will and Obama thinks he has the right to take it away? Passing the Cap & Trade which will increase energy cost to everyone across the board. This is being and will be done with out you nor I having one bit of say so about it. Again, taking another bite out of our freedom to chose.
Obama is far from stupid. He does not come right our and tell people his plan to Socialize America. In stead he hides it behind phrases that play on our sympathy like we must help those who can't help themselves with government provided health care. By itself it sounds harmless enough until the get to the forced part and the part where they can decide what health care plan you need or don't need and how they are going to tax those who have employer provide health care plans. Did you know that last year our federal government spent $43 Billion to cover E/R visits for people who could not pay/no health insurance? No ask yourself this question: Does it make sense to cut funding from our Senior Citizens who worked all their lives for and earned Medicare by $500 billion to offset the $43 billion? To me the math simply does not add up and points to other spending that they have in mind that does not include health care.
Cap & Trade: Sounds benign enough. Until you look at the fact that it will add an conservative estimate of $2,000 a year to you energy bill. Here at least you have choices. You can: (a) Pay the higher energy cost if you can afford it. (b) Install solar and wind generating power systems to get off the grid or at least help offset the extra energy cost. (c) Leave the country. (d) Sit in the dark and freeze to death. Here Obama plays on our concerns for cleaner air. Hey I am all for that! But not if presented with the choices he gives us and definitely not until the technology is in place to REALLY and RELIABLY replace fossil fuels and keep the quality of life we have now.
If Obama and his cronies can't handle it, which they obviously can't, they need to get out of the way and let people with some economic sensibilities take over. All dems know how to do is spend money on useless government programs.
As compared to starting wars just because you want to and throwing money to Halliburton, Bechtel, Blackwater, ad infinitium, ad nauseum. At least the American people may get something out of those "useless government programs", all we got from the Shrub was the Patriot Bill and not agreeing with the President (but only while the Shrub was in office) was treason.
Ask the American people, when were they happier, 1998 or 2008?
Anyone that has studied politics should know that the president is only responsibe for foreign policy and national defense, while everything that happens to the America economically is the responsibility of the Congress. For Congress to be upset over the American economy is ludicrous. The President has no control over domestic policy. Never has never will. He can only make recommendations to Congress, the Congress has to pay the bills and make domestic policy.
truthbetold, and those with:
let's get 1 thing strait here too...before the crap went smacking the fan blades, fannie/ freedie, and a few others were called before the committee because people saw problems. problems with how they operated, spending OUR $, and forcing banks to give people who couldnt afford a tent in the woods, a nice home. and the list goes on to the point of being enough to ake you want to puke! freddie / and fannie and the rest called in for crooked practices, and policys, all cried "oh boo hoo hoo!! your just a lynch mob" etc. what happend next?...
pelosi and her band of a$$ bandits, out of the blue, omg!! we need to fix bush's mistakes, that when the democraps got in office could have from the start, however swept it under the rug till too late. all the people that got "thier share" are nothing more than money grubbing a$$ bandits, that leech our gov. for every penny they can. what happens next?
Americans...retarded on drugs, vote in the biggest a$$ bandit of them all..... looking past all his ties he had just before, and while running for office...who's he chumming with now? more crooks, and he can freely hand them $, because "we need to hurry and get this passed or our economy will crumble worse than it is now" tactics!
it's nothing more than a scare tactic...spread the rumor...if this doesnt happen, the buisness will nose dive...ummmm...i dont think so. tuff it out, make sure it's legit. and move on. all it does id force people to sell out sooner to prove a point...and being the last facade, it will happen again..
Gratz to the a$$clowns on forcing more poverty down our throat, to pass more money among yourselves...again. impeach Nobama the a$$clown, and fire everyone in office, start over! might take a shot to the belt financially, but i think the best run, is get them out of office, and get the WORKING MEN AND WOMEN in office.
The caucus itself did not publicly detail its concerns Thursday, but one member, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), issued a statement: "The recession has created a unique systemic risk that threatens all parts of the African-American community, including the poor and the middle class."
Maxine, it would be more correct to say "The recession has created a unique systemic risk that threatens all parts of the American community, including the poor and the middle class." Singling out the blacks when ALL poor and middle class persons are experiencing the same problems is racist and self-serving. (No I don't care if you are part of the Black Caucus, you represent more than the black constituents.)
Other than that, I am happy to have read this article. Most interesting read in the last couple of weeks.
REALITY CHECK:
In 2001 we had a balanced budget, a massive surplus and the U.S. on track to pay down the deficit. Even so, by the time the Obama Administration came in we were on track for the next Great Depression and on the brink of an economic meltdown which the world blames on Wall Street, USA. Ten months later, figures from around the country demonstrate that we have reversed that direction and are on the road to recovery. Unbelievable.
Any truthful economist or honest media outfit will tell you that jobs are the last thing to be restored in a recession.
Anyone can see that this latest display of nastiness is just one more attempt to detract and prevent the gathering momentum of Health reform.
Doubtless, history will show.
Ask the American people, when were they happier, 1998 or 2008?
You can bet your a$$ that I was. I actually had customers that weren't being scared off by government threats of heavy taxation to fund entitlement programs, bail-outs, rebate programs that cost six-times the actual amount of the rebate, forced mandates to buy insurance, medical device taxes that would increase medical costs, Cap and Trade which will increase all energy costs substantially, VAT taxes that would raise prices on everything, etc., etc.
I now refer to the period you mentioned as "The Good Ol' Days."
popeyethesailor " Tim: Your about two galaxies out into space.. Dude Bush II left office leaving a National Debt of over 11 Trillion dollars he started off with that debt at 5 Trillion"
The National Debt for Clinton's last Fiscal Yaer in office was $5.674 Trillion. The National Debt for Bush's last Fiscal Year in office was $10.025 Trillion, and increase of $4.351 Trillion in 8 years.
After one year under Obama, it has increased by $1.881 Trillion.
More importantly, the Public Debt (Money owed to foreigners and investors on which interest actually has to be paid), increased by $2.404 Trillion under Bush in 8 years, while it has increased by $1.663 Trillion on ONE year under Obama.
THESE ARE ACTUAL FACTS THAT CAN BE VERIFIED AT THE FOLLOWING SITE;
"Anyways, you can't trust Geithner because he looks like a Romulin (Star Trek) and they can never be trusted."
Spew alert! Wanda, that was too funny--thanks for making my morning. :)
Well, well, well . . .
The Chickens ... have come home ... to roost!!
Good grief folks. Get a grip. Quit slinging your political rhetoric around.
You continue to bash the other party for all the shortcomings of the legislative, Domestic and International, process throughout the years. IT IS ALL OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS FAULT FOR THE CURRENT STATE OF OUR COUNTRY. DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS, INDEPENDENTS, LIBERTARIANS, ET AL, WHO ARE MORE INTERESTED IN THEIR SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP WHIMS AND THEIR POLITICAL POWER THAN THE OATH THEY TOOK UPON ENTERING THE CONGRESSIONAL CHAMBERS FOR THE FIRST TIME.
It is time EVERYONE IN OFFICE IS HELD ACCOUNTABLE. That includes the current Administration, the "APPOINTED" cabinet members, the "UN-APPOINTED" special advisers to the President, and ALL Members of the House and Senate.
It is time someone took the guts to remove the Czars and special interest groups from the beltway.
It is time the President fulfilled his campaign promise to audit all governmental agencies and terminate those which are non-performing.
It is time the President listened to his cabinet members instead of his "friends" and "special advisers". I would be very angry if I were an elected representative and the President relied on "HIS" special friends who enter the White House through the back door to run our country. How does that feel "elected Congressmen and women"?
It is time our elected officials in the House and Senate started drafting legislation for the PEOPLE.
It is time SOMEONE WITH GUTS started cleaning House in Washington.
Washington needs to change.
My only intelligent point here is that people were expecting miricles overnight when Obama took office. That is never going to happen. When the miricles didn't happen, people started to get too angry too fast.
So Bush's fault? Great how come the Demorats have not went back and UN did everything Bush did that caused This economic collapse? They have had the power since 2006 and have total power for 12 months why have they not done this first? You mean they could have turned this economy around day 1 and did not do it? Why not? Bush fault means you know what he did that caused it so why the delay? The bastards should have had the bills to reverse everything on Obamas Desk the day oops the night he was sworn in. why the health scare first? hypocrites!
I have seen a couple of comments on here that the stock market is recovering....but....I would like to posit that it isn't. It is the same as saying the price of gold us up. But what I believe is really happening is that our dollar is starting its free fall.
Again:
Dale:
I told you what galls you and it did. As for a smart answer, I work in the Government and I am privy to many things you do not know about. If you did you would probably think differently. BTW I do believe in Free Speech, with you comment of Put A Sock In It, You think Free Speech only applies to you and you Ilk.
popeyethesailor. You had better come armed with verifiable facts and figures before you start posting things that lead everyone to believe that you're a moron.
By the way, the deregulation that Dems keep blaming the republicans for happened with the help of......Bill Clinton - also the promoter of NAFTA. Someone needed to sign it all into law for it to take effect. It was a bipartisan deregulation. Yes, I'm refering to the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act.
Maxine Waters should not be allowed to be a participating member of any caucus or committee that would have Maxine Waters as a member.
Unless it's the nitwit committee, which she would be fully able to lead.
elephant,
The deficit was no where near where it is now, with Bush...remember Bush was running 2 wars and the last 2 years the Dems had Congress....Obama in less than 1 year has spent more money than Bush did in all 8 years.......what an idiot
__________________________________________________________________
Only one thing wrong with your statement is they gave away (not spent) huge amounts of money and they DO NOT know where it has gone. Makes you wonder if they are taking the money and plan to move out of the country when they bring us down??????
gmainco-
I didn't see Bush trying to bail us out or creating a health care overhaul.
The Republicans in congress may be the dumbest people that ever lived on earth. Obama inherited the worst recession since the Great Depression from BUSH, the guy who created the mess. Republicans are so stupid that they are blaming the wrong guy.
To all of Republican idiots that can't count. THE RECESSION BEGAN IN 2007. Obama became president in 2009. Here's a simple explanation that maybe even a Republican can comprehend:
FACTS: The Republicans under Hoover created the first great depression. It took FDR a long time to fix it, because Republicans ruined America. back then.
Now Republicans have ruined America again under Bush, and Democrats (and Obama) have to fix it again. Damn, I wish Republicans would just go away and stop destroying the country I love.
I didn't say President Bush was a good president, what I am saying is HUGE amounts of money are being spent at this time and we have no accounting of where it is going. Just that is is gone and we shouldn't ask questions. Well I for one would like to ask questions and actually get some straight answers from politicians in Washington. I don't care what party just honest answers. Opps I forgot we are talking about Washington politicians and they don't know how to answer any question honestly!!!!!!
Keep whining - all of you form the Right. The recession started in late 2007 which was, I believe still the Bush years. Remember the surplus during the Clinton years?
The recession was brought on by reckless complicity of the Congress with the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy (eliminating surpluses), a war that was totally not necessary (Iraq) costing over $1 trillion, and creating no real jobs except for the hyper-inflated housing market and the military contractors and mercenaries. The consumers had a lot to do with this too - spending every last dime they could wheedle out of the slimy lenders
Of course you can disagree with the curent administration. I just wish your comments would not include lies and inflammatory comments with no basis. That includes not trying to "blame" Obama for something he did not create. You may not like how he is trying to resolve the problems - but HE DID NOT CREATE THIS MESS.
And where were you when Greenspan played the Pied Piper with every president during his tenure and led this country off a cliff? Greenspan said himself that he messed up by not slowing the economy....but when news is good - he wasn't going to tell the emperor that he is standing there undressed.
So I would rather have Geithner tell me what is really happening - even if the news is not always good, than all the feel-good baloney we were fed during the Bush years.
Tim-507825 and DeeToo
When you learn that all the Washington Politicians are now crooks just in it for what they can line their pockets with the better off you will be. Open your eyes and realize both parties are to blame and the biggest problem is the American public just keeps closing their eyes and hoping the problems will go away. Don't think for yourself just let those politicians keep talking for you. The American public is really starting to look pretty dumb. I am hoping some of us will wake up and take our once great country back. If President Obama would look around and see what is really happening and really clean house maybe we could all see it and help him clean it up.
Hey Dale (post # 1.24) how about you put a sock in it. Looks like you can't take any critical comments about Obama, Chiefs comments were right on the money.
Gmainco-
Obama needs to spend on certain things right now to keep us going. The bailout actually saved us, I do believe that the economy would be worse without it. "Creating debt to get us out of debt" is the term that has been used since the Bush era.
Ernie-201266:
Bush only spent half of the $700 billion..
When you uncork your head from your mud hole you'll realize that Clinton left Bush with a surplus. Now do the math to see what bush actually spent to get to his National deficit.
..in Clinton's last 6 months in office he reduced the intelligence gathering community's budget by 38% effectively crippling their ability to foresee/prevent 9/11..
..Bush. He made mistakes and plenty of them, But at least he was "man enough" to admit his mistakes..
What dirty mud hole have you been sticking your head in? So much so that you escape the fact that Bush's Dick Cheney just last month reiterated the lies connecting 9/11 and Iraq thus partly justifying going to war with Iraq. On the one hand you blame Clinton for meddling with the U.S. intelligence budget, but while still in your pot hole you didn't know that Bush already blamed his Vanishing non-existent WMD on "faulty Intelligence alone?" And Cheney added that if they had to do it over they will do it just the same. For your information, that's not admitting mistakes. Get your facts right.
..he took charge and took the fight to the terrorist's homeland.
Yeah right, the terrorists who attacked U.S. on 9/11 came from Afgahnistan and Bush headed for Iraq?
Air Force One escorted by two fighter jets does a low fly over NYC scaring the crap our of people and all for a publicity stunt! Air Force One does not leave the ground for any reason unless the POTUS knows about it first and gives written authorization.
Lol.. You must work for Glenn Beck. That's your version of lies above, now here is the truth bellow from CNN reports. These are direct quotes:
"Louis Caldera, director of the White House Military Office, quickly apologized for Monday's incident after the planes prompted workers and residents to evacuate buildings in New York and New Jersey."
"Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision," Caldera said. "While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption."
"The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft, which functions as Air Force One when the president is aboard, was taking part in a classified, government-sanctioned photo shoot."
(Now Ernie-201266 you may return to your fantasy story telling- the truth about that fly over has been out for months.) And all the major News outlets including your FOX Screwed Network verified the protocol as to who, how and why the fly over.
As for the rest of your paranoia about President Obama taking over America and all the rest of that crap, anyone with half a brain knows Psycho babble nonsense when they see one.
Obama isn't to blame for the financial meltdown.
He IS to blame for every single solitary thing he's done since taking office that has made matters worse. Like instigating two of the most financially disastrous pieces of legislation ever if passed, this health care debacle and Crap & Tax. A trillion dollar ideologically driven stimulus plan that failed. Dithering on Afghanistan. Etc. etc etc.
If Halliburton, KBR, and Blackwater are so corrupt, which they are -
THEN WHY IS THIS ADMINISTRATION STILL USING THEM.
Have you taken that up with Obama? Because they're still getting billions in taxpayer funds, and it pisses me off.
Just another thing on the list of hundreds that he DIDN'T do, that he said he would do, defund those war machines. So, either it's not so easy after all to find other companies that provide the services they provide, OR they're now on Obama's leg and he on theirs, just like the media. You guys tell me, it's one or the other, right?
Why Why Why Why
All the anger;
All the angst;
Are democrats upset with "The Team Obama"
It was to be understood the recession is OVER - we have been brought back from the cliff's edge.
One thing I noticed is Tiny Tim went hard about the past 8 years and spending -
GOOD EXCUSE
Now I would like to see the democrats publicly state that from January 2009 until the end (of Obama not the world) every single solitary thing that happens is 110% the result of democrat policy.
See the past 8 years have been blamed (over & over & over again) on Bush and republicans -as if - the democrats took the 8 years off - they stayed home and Bush and the GOP went wild.
Now the dems have an even bigger majority and the GOP could stay away and the dems could still pass all of the agenda. Something Bush could not do - he needed some dems.
I am tired - so very tired - goodnight y'all.
Well, Leafy all I can tell you is I am old enough that new taxes and new health care will do me in but my children, grandchildren and probably great grandchildren will be living in poverty paying off government debts or speaking Chinese and still living in poverty. Being able to say I told you so will not be anything I would want to do. I just want freedom and a strong debit free country. As I said before you may want to find out which country our politicians are planning on moving too and start making plans.
gmainco-
Well said and defintely understood !
Don't reference your children in this. It won't work with me.
I am of your children's generation. If it's going to affect me, then it will. As of right now I see nothing wrong with the taxes. Bush cut a huge chunk of taxes- which helped put our economy on the edge. I don't want that to happen to me. I haven't seen stablization yet in my life as far as when I was old enough to know what's going on. I welcome it now. If Obama puts a few taxes on my generation to help us now, we can figure out what to do in a few years.
Michael: I don't blame republicans. I blame Bush.
Doing a little research on the costs handed down by Bushbaby and company JUST on Iraq (and not added to the budget by the previous administration):
According to the CBO the cost of Iraq will be over 2 Trillion while a top economist,Joseph E. Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, said it will be closer to 4 trillion. Keep in mind that does not include the medical bills and other funds due to all the troops killed or needing medical care for years or the rest of their lives. Gee thanks Bush!
Obama allowed that cxost to be added even though it makes his adminstration look wasteful. Personally, I commend him for his decision! Better to know the real cost than have it remain a very costly secret!
This regulatory overhaul is pure crap. Dodd should resign his chairmanship and go back home to his rocking chair. Sen. Shelby is exactly correct. This bill is a rush to judgement without a complete understanding of the causes of the terrible recession. I don't think Dodd wants to review the causes of the recession because of his part in creating it. That is the truth. Okay, libs, it's your turn to spin it.
Mr. President, we have lost faith in your economic policy. It is time to replace Mr. Geithner who is perceived as being an ineffective Wall streeter. May I suggest Volcker or Krugman or maybe Roubini. An immediate, massive and aggressive second federal stimulus package focusing on building our electrical transmission grid is needed to bring our renewable energy efficiently to where it is needed, to provide solid jobs which cannot be outsourced and which will have a ripple effect throughout the economy. (The first federal stimulus package was cancelled out by draconian cutbacks and layoffs by the states and local governments)
OK be honest with me and yourself.
Like Limbaugh who stated from the beginning, "I want the stimulus package to fail"(quote). You want it to fail.
In fact, of the approx $750 billion, only approx $250B of the stimulus has been committed, and around $150B has been sent out.
The results so far are everywhere visible and critically needed. For starters in keeping our nurses, police, teachers and firefighters on the payroll, repairing roads and bridges and schools so we can every day function in our communities.
Without these in place we cannot get to the next base.
Respectfully, I ask you to face the unconcealed reality that the Republican Senate minority, owned and operated by the right-wing fringe needs, expects and REQUIRES you to be ignorant of the facts and is committed to total obstruction:
No matter how important or critical for the American people's
domestic/international future security, safety and well-being.
I salute Ron Paul for putting together a Bi Partisan bill to audit the Fed,, long over due.
The question is whether the move to audit the Fed will now pass in the Senate and whether Obama will veto it. Personally I think it will be political suicide to veto a financial accountability bill, but lets see what happens.
John - Respect for our President is required.....your nasty comments won't help. Grow up.
I think I may have missed something, but John only stated that Obama lies. That is the truth. How is that disrespectful?
Its only disrespectful to 20% of the population.
Respect for our President is required.....your nasty comments won't help
I have yet to see Obama post on Newsvine, so I'm not sure whose feelings are going to get hurt if the criticism is over-the-top.
Respect is earned. He has yet to earn mine, even though I respect the office and he did get my vote. Again, I apologize.
Too many lies, too many unkept promises, governance from too far left after campaigning from the center. The list is too long.
And with his approval rating sinking, on pretty much every poll, it seems the rest of the country is seeing major problems too.
{John - Respect for our President is required.....your nasty comments won't help. Grow up.}
That's the problem for many Americans(the belief, that you have to respect a position), heres a simple lesson. Respect is EARNED, never given!
Semper Fi
YES WE CAN = Mantra for the brain dead!!!!
Hope and Change.....I Hope, there will be some Change left, when Oblahblah leaves office!
Tired of BS...
You took the words right out of my mouth.... well said.
"The amendment, which won bipartisan support in the House Financial Services Committee despite the reservations of administration officials, would allow the Government Accountability Office to audit all of the Fed's operations, including its decisions on interest rates and its transactions with foreign central banks."
There is still a problem here. The Federal Reserve needs to be audited by independent auditors as well and then the results compared. It is too easy for a crook to monitor a crook.
But I do have to say, "GO RON PAUL!!!!!!!!!" You go, boy!!!!!!!!!
The FED has never been, and never will be, truly audited.
Fisherman 144 is here because Obama can't fight his own battles let alone run our country. Keep up the good work Fisherman, the end is all most near.
Help is on the way. We have an election coming up in 2010.
Ron Paul should have been voted in for President. I voted for him.
I was taught from a very early age that respect is earned. While I served in the Navy I learned that I may have to respect someones rank, but that didn't mean I had to respect the person. I also will not listen to an elected official who goes against the Constitution of the United States. That automatically makes that persons position null and void. If you want to follow along blindly just because someone wears a uniform or holds a position then move to China. I'm sure they would welcome another Comrade.
Alan, you are stupid.
Alan Walters,
You said, "I salute Ron Paul for putting together a Bi Partisan bill to audit the Fed,, long over due"
I agree totally with your salute. Those that have the ability to work together always accomplish more than those that only have the capability to blame and condemn in the name of power of party.
If people are working toward the same goal it can be reached even if they have different opinions on how to achieve it. We need different opinions to balance the scales but those trying to tip the scales in their direction need to be removed.
Semper Fi
Pragmatic, What would it take for this POTUS to earn your respect? I have a feeling that it would be accomplished no matter what he did. Am I right?
Fisherman 144 is right,
Respect fot the Office of the President is politely expected, but I am not sure it is REQUIRED......that is, unless it is on page 1893 A(1) subparagraph b32 on the new Health Care Bill that Pelosi is so proud of.
RESPECT MUST BE EARNED !!! B.O. is still on his power kick, supported by a partisan majority in both houses, and he demonstrates on a daily basis that he does not have the experience or the maturity for the job.
The American people will move swiftly in the next elections to correct the imbalance of power that now exists in the Senate and in the House
Ron Paul may talk a great game but he's a wingnut plain and simple
Oh so libertarians are wingnuts now too? What's next?
wingnuts just don't sell in elections, Palin is another great example
Really? So you're saying that because Palin was on the ticket, McCain was handicapped, and therefore should have done better than losing the vote by 3%?
I'm glad that Ron Paul's bill to audit the fed is finally getting some media coverage. It's time to change things for the better.
What it would take for Barrack Obama to earn my respect, since I was asked directly:
He would earn my respect if he would let go of the ideology to which he clings like grim death and recognize that spending money we do not have is not helping the economy, the people, the value of the dollar or our standing internationally.
He seems to have recognized this, but has yet to put action to words.
He would earn my respect if he would step up to the plate on health care, and tell Congress that the legislation they are considering not only does not meet the promise of saving people money, but actually breaks several other promises regarding taxation and spending. If he told them to start over, that alone with earn my respect.
He would earn my respect if he stopped putting the cart before the horse when it comes to Crap & Tax. $119 billion dollars were allocated in the stimulus for "green" jobs. Last report I saw, only about $3 billion of that was spent, and most of it was spent retrofitting buildings to be energy efficient. Valid, but short term. Get that money out there, via low interest loans to industry to build wind and solar farms, erect them, and build the infrastructure to get the power to where it's needed, etc. etc. etc. DEMAND that these jobs be kept stateside, or institute huge penalties for offshoring. Do this BEFORE instituting a punative tax that will be job killer and economy wrecker.
He might earn my respect if he stayed in United States of America long enough to have anything but fleeting conversations with the idiots in Congress, his Cabinet etc.
Most importantly, he might earn my respect if he STOPPED doing the same things Bush did. I didn't like what Obama is doing now, when Bush was doing it. It's the same thing, big governmnet, big spending.
nice little outburst of political cannabalism......
Fisherman said:
John - Respect for our President is required.....your nasty comments won't help. Grow up.
Sorry. The dems were poor role models during the 8 years under Bush.
Ron Paul is a hero. He is risking his life to get the federal reserve audited in hopes of getting it abolished so our own country would have control over the minting of our currency (not the IMF banksters known as the Federal Reserve). The last person who tried that was JFK. The one who gave them the boot before that and retook control of monetary issuance was Abe Lincoln.
http://american_almanac.tripod.com/lincoln3.htm
Ron Paul is not a wingnut as some clueless person wrote previously. He knows a great deal about history and the present and sees very clearly what is really going on. Anyone who calls him a wingnut should read his books and gain some basic education.
One thing some of you forget is that Ron Paul is a Republican. During the primaries that party laughed at Ron Paul and pushed him aside. Ron Paul may be a hero - but he did not run on his own after his own party ignored him. So he played party politics as much as the next guy.
It's easy to sit in the cheap seats and throw cushions at the speaker. It's a lot tougher to be the speaker. Ron Paul is a Libertarian, and was never anything else. He should have continued to run as one, and not pander to a political party that wanted nothing to do with him. If he had gone to Washington as president, everyone would have blamed him too for the bad economy. Not because it is so - but because it is like throwing the cushions - easy.
Obama did not break any promises yet. Lots of folks did not listen when he spoke, and now want to tag him with many things he never said. He always said cap & trade model was good, and referenced the cap & trade approach successfully used for coal not so long ago.
Obama has not increased taxes to those earning under $250k - as promised. He said he would need to spend to get the economy moving again. And it is working. Slowly, but the economy is improving, one sector at a time. This deep of a recession does not reverse overnight. The stimulus money has been spent slowly intentionally - partially to control it better, partially to leave some behind to extend unemployment and COBRA assistance longer if needed. It was prudent -
His efforts to coordinate with the world economy has born positive results. This is a global economy - unless we work with our allies & partners, we will slide further into a hole. His travels have done us good. Him sitting in Washington stewing about what Congress must do is pointless. Much better to speak with leaders in person. Something Bush was too arrogant and xenophobic to do.
Let's quit blaming Obama for things he did not do. Let's quit assuming Ron Paul is not a politician like all the rest. Let's stop disrespecting the president and just disagree instead. Calling a person a liar is rude, and particularly ugly if it is not true. Just because some of you are angry about the economy, feeling personally powerless, and him being Black is no reason to imply he lies.
Ron Paul has been elected to senate 10 times as a REPUBLICAN. Bush was a democrat, McCain was a democrat (big spending, more government, more socialist programs, war mongering).
Ron Paul is a Republican - as was initially intended, limited government, unfettered civil liberties, low taxes, free market solutions to the economy (not the corporate cronyism and bail-outs so popular in recent years).
Obama does the exact opposite of his rhetoric. Wait till cap and trade passes, prices will go through the roof for everything to generate that extra 700B of revenue for the government to give to its buddies. Where do you think that money comes from? You and I in the price of everything we buy. But oopsey, that's not raising taxes its 'selling permits for O2 emmissions".
All fees, permits, taxes on companies, etc....hit the end consumer via HIGHER PRICES or else the companies go out of business and the jobs go bye bye.
Suggest reading some books on basic economic principles -- try the ones focused on Austrian economics not Keynesian economics.
Malum consilium quod mutari non potest
PragmaticToAFault -- you are a republican, fess up, so no matter what Obama does he will not earn your respect
Does it make you feel better to call me a Republican, Doug? Then go ahead, because that's something you liberals never tire of: Saying the same thing over and over and over again, and thinking that makes it true.
On the other hand, can you disagree with any of the things I listed as being issues and explain or defend Obama's actions on them?
I thought not.
This mess was create long before Obama took office. This started 30 years ago when our Congress passed all of these unfair trade agreements and we been exporting our jobs and importing our goods and services ever since. Its time the President and congress stop all these unfair trade agreements and tell these companies to make their products in the United States or put tariffs on them to help pay for our overpriced government. The only way to insure everyone has a job in the United States is to produce what you consume.
I agree. Here's the great IRONY about it : the Chinese can artificially devalue their goods and labor by fixing the exchange rate between the RMB and the dollar, but we cant level the playing field and slap tariffs on their exports because that would be "protectionism".
Apparently protectionism is only something our trading "partners" can indulge in. Meanwhile our manufacturing and ability to make good on our debt dwindles a little more each day. I hate to say it but the Chinese set out to **** us, and our politicians are too chicken-**** or oblivious to the problem. And yes, this thing took decades to manifest.
I agree with you Wade. This mess was created long before Obama took office. The funny thing is, so many Americans thought the least qualified person, a junior senator, could fix everything.
I gotta go. There is a break between shows here at the circus and I want some more popcorn. Can I get you something?
Sure it's the trade agreements, but the unions have alot to do with it too. I seems only a matter of time until they wreck everything in which they become a part of.
borttorb....
hehe... your post made me smile before having my coffee (now that is something....)
actually the real 'mess' started way before that.. back in 1913 when our so called representatives handed over our sovereignty to a bunch of criminal private bankers.
Their progeny still controls us through the so-called "Federal" Reserve, which is as "federal" as federal express. It's a private corporation controlling our money supply. We work, and they print pieces of paper to buy our fruits of labor. No wonder they control all hard assets of worth today. All they need to do is to just print up some more pieces of worthless paper whenever they need to take over more of our production.
I agree with Losing Freedom. I watched a special on this and was I blowen away by what they have done to our county since then. Maybe someone will wake up someday and realize what is happening. We all have to meet our maker and I hope he shows no mercy on those who brought suffering on others.
I agree with you Wade. This mess was created long before Obama took office. The funny thing is, so many Americans thought the least qualified person, a junior senator, could fix everything.
I gotta go. There is a break between shows here at the circus and I want some more popcorn. Can I get you something?
The more junior the better. The last thing we need are those old corrupted dinosaurs in more important positions than they already are in now. Better yet, throw them out from their present positions and find regular people with none of that so called experience that has ruined this country. All you have to do is just look at one of the worst examples of a so called "experienced" senator like Mitch McConnel. The less "experienced" the better!
Get real folks. WE were and are our own worst enemy in trade deficits, etc. WE are the ones who destroyed our own industries by our constant demands for much higher wages/benefits that made our own products too expensive for US to afford, let alone people in other parts of the world to afford. WE drove our jobs overseas in our purchasing methods, since we kept demanding cheaper and cheaper goods to buy, yet demanding higher and higher wages for making our own products.
radar, the problem with your concept is that without term limits and with the "seniority" rules of both houses of Congress, you will never be able to accomplish your dream. WE CAN CREATE TERM LIMITS.....at the ballot box every two/four/six years. Get your neighbors together and make sure that you do NOT re-elect any incumbent for ANY office, from the lowest position to the highest. If you want a two term limit like we have for the POTUS and some state offices, then make sure that happens at the ballot box. It will NEVER happen as a constitutional amendment, simply because of the procedures for getting such an Amendment proposed and passed. Our founding fathers deliberately made that procedure difficult so that the "leaders" could continue to control things.
Another straw man tactic, the GOP hoping the public will watch their left hand so they won't see the health care reform being debated this weekend in the right hand. I hope the public is not that myopic or stupid.
If anyone wants to consider facts instead of partisan bickering, there was an interesting article about the GOP efforts to pass the Medicare Drug benefit in 2003 to win reelection. They knew the cost and increase to the deficit would be much higher than predicted, but through coercion and intimidation they managed to get enough votes to pass it.
Talk about sleazy tactics, putting party before country, and fiscal irresponsibility. And this was written by a real fiscal conservative:
Plus, Part D is a total disaster for both seniors and the budget. Both Medicare Part C (Advantage) and Part D (drugs) were simply another pandering to their insurance supporters. Another way to line the pockets of the very corporations who are fighting this new reform legislation. The 2003 Medicare bill was NOT reform. It was greed on the part of elected officials and their buddies in the insurance industry.
Borttorb,
I agree with you to a point, people voting both sides wanted to believe their person could fix a problem we all saw coming. It really wouldn't have mattered if we elected Obama or McCain we would still be where we are today.
This has been coming for a long time and neither party that controlled Congress stopped it. Read post 1.41 above because it is very accurate.
Those in Congress wanting to blame are and were the problem. They did nothing when they had control and now are simply trying to keep their jobs. The ones you hear being the most verbal out of either party are sitting in solid Red or Blue districts. They also have another thing in common, they have been in Congress forever.
So yes please get me some popcorn also because until we set term limits on Congress the circus will continue. The sad part is that we the divided voters are the clowns. Let Republicans be Republicans and Democrats be Democrats but as Americans let's mandate term limits for Congress. Semper Fi
clotho, again and again and again I disagree with you. You say that the GOP is using some tactic to make people ignore the debate this weekend?? How, by pointing out flaws in a ridiculous bill, is that trying to distract the public?? If anything it just brings it to the front of my mind and makes me want to watch all the more. On the other hand you have your left hand trying to throw all kinds of distractions from the truth out there with their leftist news agencies. Get a clue!!!
"I agree. Here's the great IRONY about it : the Chinese can artificially devalue their goods and labor by fixing the exchange rate between the RMB and the dollar, but we cant level the playing field and slap tariffs on their exports because that would be "protectionism".
Maybe we should try, provoke a trade dispute and get this settled -- along with the poor environmental and living conditions of the Chinese workers.
What we are doing is not fair and is not working for the US, maybe we need to shake things up (I know that their own our debt and may retaliate -- they have more to lose that we do.)
This president and his Congress should be investigated for "lying" to the American people.
These fraudulent new job figures that have now been exposed are clearly an intentional effort on the part of the Whitehouse to deceive us all.
Please, Democrats...put aside your party banner and hold this president accountable for lying to us all. Study the financial data. Our economy is on the verge of ruin. You have the controlling power, and only you can stop this economic suicide. Please put our country first!
It took 6 years (2000-2006) of complete GOP (Greed Over Patriotism) control of the House, Senate, Presidency and Supreme Court to destroy our financial system via deregulation and emasculate our military via privatization, including hundreds of Billions to Halliburton via their ex CEO Dick Cheney to hire locals to run mess halls where we had no troops and wire up our showers to electrocute our troops while their "private contractors" assassinate randomly and sell hundreds of thousands of small arms, purchased with US tax dollars, to the insurgents.
I'm willing to give President Obama, and his team, the opportunity to make corrections, and adjust when necessary. Remember Allan Greenspan testifying before Congress that all his economic policies that led to the meltdown were WRONG??? Clearly, the problem the GOP created over 6 years of lies and corruption is too vast to correct in 9 months, but things appear to be turning around.
All the hoot and holler crowd does is distract from rational thought and logical debate. Political ideology has no place when the Nation is at risk as the Greed Over Patriotism mob will find out in the next election. Everyone, and I mean everyone, should be working together to get our country through this crisis. Anyone who is working hard to cause more economic agony is a traitor!!!
"...but things appear to be turning around."
Yea sure, you keep thinking that. It's only getting worse. And that's due to this administration.
Turning around???? Where????
Anything the democrats tried to do up to Jan. 20, 2009 was vetoed by Bush. So how could the democrats have any power before that.
If you really knew what you were talking about, you might have a clue. As you are now you are worthless.
starbuck49
Congress can override a veto by 2/3 majority in each house. Try again!
I like how they never reply, when you slap them with truth!
tim,
Even though Demmocrats held the majority, it wasn't a 2/3 majority - try again!!
Just so you know...after the 2006 elections, Democrats held 233 seats, while Republicans held 202 seats. Thusm while dems had the majority, they only held 54% of the seats - that's not 2/3rds (66.6%). In the Senate, it was 51-49 dems to repubs. So again, while a majority it was not enough to veto-proof any legislation put forth. I think I want some popcorn too.
MarineVet fails to remember that Greenspan was Chairman of the Fed under Clinton as well. Nice try.
Folks lets understand what caused this whole meltdown...
It was not greed per se. It was a wonderful little idea to increase home ownership among the masses. Who can argue against that? Sounds good, benevolent even (a lot like providing free healthcare, but I digress.) The political groups representing the poor arm twisted every politician in the 1990s to get the mortgage rules changed so that a 20% downpayment was not required. And then only 10% down was required, and then 5% and so on until it was 0% with no verifiable income required. What is funny (sad) is they already had a program for that - its called First-time Homebuyer Association (FHA) and only required 3% down plus insurance to protect the bank against your possible default. I bought my first house using this method. But suddenly you can get a loan for 80% of the value of the house and immediately get a second mortgage for the 20% that is missing. This one is a variable rate mortgage that will kill the homeowner if the rates go up. (Probably why the Fed does not want to raise the current interest rates to combat inflation and a weakening dollar.)
The red flag was raised in late 2005 and and brought before the democrats in the House and Senate in 2006 and 2007. They assured us there was no cause for alarm. They were banking on the ever increasing home values to save them - a recipe for disaster. (Alot like building homes below sea level in a hurricane region - but again I digress).
So there it is, the blame you NeoSocialists want to pin on Bush is actually on Clinton who signed it into law in 1999. But it is also on the Democrats like Dodd who refused to act back in 2006 when the signs were starting to glow cherry red. But I like to blame us -the TAXPAYERS. Because we are the ones who did not challenge them to do better and we continue to send them to Washington to sell us out and tax us more. That is the hard reality, MarineVet - you are to blame, so am I. It is enlightening folks to admit that you are to blame....
Marine vet,
first off let me thank you for your service, I have two sons one a marine and one an infantryman......
with all do respect sir, you said anyone who is working hard to cause more economic agony must be a traitor...therefoe Obama must be a traitor..cause he is causing growing pains in the government.

Ouch, well said Beanne!

Rational AmeriCAN
You are exactly correct. It was the attitude of guys like Dodd and Barney Fank that thought home ownership was a right not a priviledge that got us where we are right now. These 2 Bozos should be run out of town on a rail for there lies. We have to have term limits in the future to get rid of liars like these clowns when their states don't have enough sense to vote them out.
Excuse me Marine Vet, You can also go back and look at the Clinton years and see poor decisions also such as "NAFTA" and allowing "Credit default swaps" to be a legally traded instrument. If I remember correctly it had been banned over 80 years ago.
You can look at every President going back to LBJ and find bad financial decisions. Be more objective instead of picking and choosing which president you want to blame.
Also I want to remind you that it is the American consumer who bears the majority of the responsibility of the state of the economy. Do you know who that is????, it is ALL OF US INCLUDING YOU AND ME.
Marine Vet. Wow, how can someone who served in such a noble Corp be so backward? Obama has us 12 trillion dollars in debt to China of all people. Barney Frank, Reid, Pelosi and these others who have catered to the likes of ACORN and approved the giving of loans to each and every person who walks down the pike has caused this economic melt down. Blame Bush is getting very very old. Find another mantra!!! Really though, if you dislike Bush for the way he handled things, then you should truly dispise Obama. He is actually worse. He is bowing to our enemies and insulting our allies. He spends like its going out of style. He is as crooked as a dogs hind leg. Man I could go on and on.
The road back will be slow and painful. The stimulous was not desinged to fix the unemployment problem, only to prevent it for going to 25%. Which it has done. There are tons of need projects the government should do to create jobs. The fed is a big problem and is suppressing interest rate in the banking industry. It funny the market people don't let the market work. Bush spent 5 trillion dollar in deficit Obama is over 1trillion dollar. But it the stimulus passed before he took office and the cost of the wars.....
Obama will be one of our greatest presidents.
Nobody ever explains what they mean by "lying". It's very easy to call someone a liar, or a crook, but there just aren't facts to support this libel (note that a "gut feeling" does not constitute facts.) I'm a moderate independent (social liberal and fiscally moderate), but I'm keeping an open mind.
In fact, even this early into Obama's first term, he seems to be keeping most of his campaign promises. Even keeping in mind that no politician is able to keep all of his campaign promises, he's been pretty effective:
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/
Promise Kept: 54
Compromise: 14
Promise Broken: 7
Stalled: 17
In the Works: 154
Not yet rated: 269
So, take a look, and let us know if these facts are inaccurate, in the first 10 months of his presidency. It's a non-partisan site, I believe run by the St. Petersberg Times. Thanks.
RationalAmerican
I have never obtained a loan without being able to prove income and other credit checks to secure that loan and have never met anyone who got a loan for a home without same.
Where are all of these people who got free homes? This is all utter nonsense and people need to quit repeating the crap.
Many people who qualified for loans have lost their livelihood and therefore their ability to pay their mortgages. These are tough times for many and while I do blame the government for some of these problems, I think that saying no to everything without bringing any ideas to the table except tax cuts for the rich (trickle down never worked), is part of what the american people will have to decide about.
If the dems lose a lot of seats in 2010, we will know that their model is being rejected. But if the rupubs lose seats again, then it should be a strong message to the party that obstructionism has to end.
popeyethesailor,
Perhaps you have mixed in a little LSD with your spinach ! You are delusional and paranoid in almost everything you say.
Your comment about torturing POW's however, seems to imply a war....such as a war on terror. But B.O.'s attorney general wants to label this as a criminal action, and not an act of war. Furthermore, when do non-American terrorists come under the guarantees of our Constitution ???
YOU TRIP OVER YOUR OWN LOGIC.
By the way, has Charlie Rangel paid his back taxes yet ? How about Timothy Geithner ??
DaBrad,
I have an employee who asked me for a raise to cover the cost increase in his mortgage (in 2007) because he financed his down payment with a second mortgage. The second mortgage was a variable rate that quickly jumped as the rates climbed. OUCH! This is (was) a common practice as late as September 2008. You can think it does not happen but it did. This fellow got in over his head because his mortgage company convinced him he could afford a house beyond his means by using this ridiculous financing method. Many Americans fell for this scheme though I doubt anyone will admit it, now.
Used to have to maintain a debt ratio (per monthly income) of not more than 0.36 and then subtract all your monthly debt payments. That was the maximum payment you could have for a house payment. Not prebubble burst.
When I moved in 2006, my mortgage company tried to convince me to do the same thing and buy a huge decadent house. I said no and only bought what I could afford. They even said, "Houses always appreciate!" Which we now know is not true. The pressure to keep up with the Joneses "force" people to make an investment in a house that was too big.
Further, my brother owns a private mortgage company. The rules became so lax over the years 1999-2008 that the title companies were not always requiring inspections! Further, as I can vouch, mortgage companies were failing to call employers to verify employment. And unscrupulous mortgage companies would fudge what ever they needed to get the deal done. And why not? Fannie and Freddie were backing them up, packaging these loans as securities and sending them out to the banking world.
This was the oversight your love interests Barney and Chris were not keen on providing back in 2006 and 2007.
Best of luck with your lobotomy Brad.
And another thing, Brad...
The New York Times, no doubt a liberal mouthpiece if ever there was one, ran multiple articles in 1999 questioning the sanity of the 'increasing home ownership' gamble that was about to become law. Look 'em up at your local library. You will be amazed at how prescient the critics of the rules changes were.
They predicted a housing bubble!!! They predicted a collapsed banking industry!!! These were economists - not politicians - who were ripping on it.
Thank G-d someone's finally waking up in Washington. Mr Obama and his administration has put America in great economic, and diplomatic peril. They have also managed to undermine our safety and security, all in his first year in office. Raise your voices loudly and clearly before the damage he causes is unrepairable. We still have freedom of speech and we need to use. Try to turn this ship around before we run aground.
Maybe this investigation will find the 2.3 trillion dollars that came up missing on 9/10/2001 during Bushs watch.
Starbuck49
Maybe this investigation will find the Pick an Amount trillion dollars that came up missing on Pick a date between January 21, 2009 to November 20, 2009 while 0bama was on watch.
I don't know if you noticed, and apparently you have not noticed, but the Honorable G.W. Bush served two terms, was term-limited and is no longer President of the United States.
From January 21, 2009 to the present 0bama is in charge of good, bad or indifferent.
Thats just a fact and it really galls idiots that their Savior is making mistakes, over and over, and over again.
You know, I didn't like or vote for Bush. But I am so tired of people that live in the past and have to post on it constantly instead of facing our present and future. It is disturbed emotional thought that is incapable of dealing with the present and is a big part of why we end up where we do as a country. Bush is not in office. Just because timmy jumped off a bridge does not mean it is good or OK for johnny to do it also. Grow up America.
My sentiments exactly Doug, I was wondering if these idiots were ever going to start to question the garbage they are calling bills. These folks really have no understanding of the laws of unintended consequence.
Unintended consequence - an island has a rodent problem as a result of no predators (rats brough by ships over centuries). Island brings in cats to prey on the rats. The cats wipe out the indigenous ground parrot population because they are easier to catch and eat than those pesky rats. Now the feral cat population is the problem as the cats now roam the island. What shall we do next? Unintended consequence is dangerous and is often the result of well intentioned policy change that we hope will do no harm.
Ah, but you forget one thing third......you MUST look at history to see and judge the effects of current actions. It is not just GWB that many of us are critical of for today's crisis. This crisis that the current administration has to deal with is the result of over a century of mismanagement. Chief, if you are truly a part of the government, then you are partly at fault, aren't you? What are you doing as a government employee to help correct the mistakes of the past century? This whole mess goes back to Woodrow Wilson, if not all the way back to 1776.
Ahhhh, the lunacy of the internet.
Although I am an ardent Obama supporter, I have an issue with the fact that the foxes are guarding the hen house, meaning that the same folks that helped to get us into one of the biggest financial disaster's this country has ever seen, have ties to officials in the White House, such as Tim Geitner, a former Goldman Sachs exec. How in the world can we expect these people to do right by the American public, when they didn't do so before now? Although I appreciate having new blood in the White House, I would prefer it not be mixed with the shed blood of countless retirees and middle class households, who are now wondering if they will ever be able to comfortably retire!
Now, for the GWB fans. Let me make sure I have this straight. Somehow Obama is carrying this country into the crapper because of deficit spending, yet much of that spending has to do with the fact that we are fighting two truly unwinable wars that are costing billions of taxpayer dollars every year, and toward a TARP that is making it so that the same old folks on Wall Street continue to collect massive bonus's and/or enjoy enourmous golden parachutes on the backs of the American taxpayers...and all this was put into place during the BUSH ADMINISTRATION! Even if Congress and Obama somehow managed to not spend one more dollar for the next year, our debt would still continue to climb, because we are still in the midst of a huge financial and fiscle drain, in the form of TWO WARS WE CANNOT WIN!
So, please allow your Congressman and Senator's to continue to lie to you and say that it is all the fault of the Democrats. Then take your blinders off and realize that the Republican controlled White House played a HUGE roll in the mess we are currently in!
Now. Let it sink in. There. Doesn't that feel better?
The very thought of Mr. Obama managing " to not spend one more dollar for the next year...".
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. Comfort. But comfort denied.
The only this missing from this guy is an eye-patch, bandana, and a parrot on his shoulder as he continues on his quest to pilfer other people's treasure.
Arrrrrgggghhhhh !!!
because we are still in the midst of a huge financial and fiscle drain, in the form of TWO WARS WE CANNOT WIN!
I think we are winning the one in Iraq. And losing ground in Afganistan where Obama said we were required to be because he is a bigger waffler than John Kerry.
Hmm, let's see, export all of our manufacturing, steel industry, textiles, etc..., and call it free trade then wonder why it has all collapsed. It is shocking how the government has enabled jobs and skills to hemorrhage out of America. Both the Democrats and Republicans are to blame for this mess. Honestly, Americans shouldn't vote for either party anymore. They certainly don't vote for us. Please pay attention and vote for the candidates that say they will work to abolish the free trade agreements.
Candidates say a lot of things, all the time. I just want some who will actually DO something.
Super Ultra - Saying goes: "Talk is Cheap'!
Free trade is the holy grail of market economics. Even the democrats against what the unions wanted got on the free trade bandwagon 30 years ago.
Free trade can only be successful, if there is a truly open flow of trade. Instead, we have a one sided system where we buy enormous amounts of goods from overseas, but overseas does not necessarily purchase enormous amounts of goods from us. Instead, they look out for there own citizenry, and make sure that the items they need most are manufactured right there in their home countries; whereas Americans decided to allow our items to be exclusively manufactured elsewhere. This leads to massive trade deficits, and is partially to blame for the mess this country is in!
mmmm mmmm mmmm "oz never did give nothing to the tin man, that he didn't already have." mmm mmmm mmmm
torgo........you must be a corporate executive, only corporate America prospered from the free trade agreements with near slave labor nations...... While corporate greed had a lot to do with the current depression, ten years of multi hundred billion dollar trade deficits is just as much to blame......To illustrate my point, I'll trade you $1 for $3 until you run out of money, then tell me if you still believe in that kind of free trade ?
Our politicians should be focusing at setting up a system to prevent the meltdown from ever happening again. It basically starts with business Leaders and Bankers and their desire to get more money then anyone else. The are in competition on who can make the most. They don't care about the average everyday Joe who works harder then they do just to put food on the table. They only care about what poor sap they can bilk out of their hard earn dollar just so they can have it. Brings to mind a simple verse that rings so true to how cruel man is towards each other. I won't say where it is from but part of it goes "ya he will murder his brother to posess his brothers land" The words may not mean much without the whole thing but it speaks volumes. Politicians just want to bicker but really don't want to change anything because it may mean they will need to sacrifice something as well for it to really be effective.
That is why right now they want to find an escape goat for how messed up this is. They don't want to acknowledge that they helped cause it by enacting some rules and laws which protected the real culprits who did create this problem
It can not be prevented it happen every time there is a fundamental change in the way things work. We decided to ship material to china and manufacture them into products (Which i have observed to be inferior crap.) Then ship them back to America and sell them to the stupid people who only look at price. Many quality product went out of business and the price of shipping is now to high. It added 2 dollar to the price of a case of coke. It is the shift in the price of transportation that is killing us. I use to wear American shoes which lasted years. Now i have on a pair made in china that last 6 months. And cost 80% of what good shoes cost. Same thing with shirts use to by American made shirts. (double stitched) business gone. Can't see the tag but appear to be made in Malaysia. (Were ever that is) I bought walnut hand made furniture which my wife has replaced with crap made in china. It look like a basket weave and she say it's so pretty. Won't last.
Planet of the Apes..."beware the beast man, for he is the devil's pawn, he will kill his brother to posess his brother's land" can't quite remember the rest of it
"he will kill for sport, or lust or greed, shun him, drive him back into his lair, for he will make a desert of his home and yours"
Of course we have to remember an ape was saying this, but the important part seems to ring true
Hmm, let's see, export all of our manufacturing, steel industry, textiles, etc..., and call it free trade then wonder why it has all collapsed. It is shocking how the government has enabled jobs and skills to hemorrhage out of America. Both the Democrats and Republicans are to blame for this mess. the opinion or yelling of republicans in political office is mostly lies. they apparently don't know how economics works, plus and minuses and debts, since they are the ones who ran up this outrageous national debt, now they use their words to try to pretend they are the ones who hate debt while their actions prove otherwise.
I don't like this article at all, I accidentally voted for something or other on this page, thinking it was a posting button, I don't know what I voted for. anyway, another dumb thing this article talks about is minorities trying to stop the vote? I am a minority, I don't think minorities should try to come off like a victim just because they are a minority. I like Obama's approach, treat everyone as americans and try to work from there. yes we all have different histories but most of all have the opportunity, if we are a legal citizen, to be able to work hard and make a decent life here, trying to separate things based on race will probably not work much. and I would add that it is usually even more of a hindrance to be a woman rather than a man, and I don't think women (which I am) need to try to stop votes or bills in order for women to get their due or whatever this article is making it come off like with the african american issue. I really hope this article is getting it wrong and the petty people really aren't getting much done, if they are it is sad and no wonder palin is going to get popular if it keeps up, let's go to college people and learn math and real economics
No offense.but I am a minority.I am a male,caucasian,U.S.born citizen and my vote carries no weight.Take a look around you in any American city.I am not racist, but I can see that the 'minorities' are no longer minority,if they have so much influence in our country's political system.
Dodd, Frank, and Reid where the ones that pushed and protected the policies that caused the sub-prime melt down. They will never let any legislation pass that will regulate THEM......
Mean-while, Pelosi pushes for more Eco-Nut and social give-away programs...
And George Soros & Al Gore are laughing all the way to the bank......

It is my hope that Obama will not have that long. Obama has spent more than all who came before him combined. How will that fix the economy? You cannot spend your way into prosperity.
I just hope the BHO makes it until 2012, the USA does not need another JFK.
Vote in 2010 and return fiscal responsibility to the US government, starting at the local level and finishing with the Senate...... Mean-while DO NOT support any politician that does not represent the people that voted them into office.....
Hit them where it will hurt the most, the Pocket Book.........
Well that shoots down pretty much the whole 2 party system! So, who will you vote for then? Here's a list, do some research, and stop voting down party lines, it is high time America realizes these same clowns have monopolized D.C. for 200+ years, and what good have they done? It is time for a change! The current 2 major parties damn sure aren't the answer!
In order for a party's nominee to have the possibility of becoming president by majority vote of the electoral college (as opposed to by decision of the United States House of Representatives after an electoral majority has failed to be reached), they must be on the ballot in states whose collective electoral vote total is at least half of the Electoral-College votes. In addition to the two main parties listed above, three additional parties met this criterion in the 2008 Presidential Election.
These parties have offered candidates in recent elections, but did not have ballot status in enough states in 2008 to win the presidency by majority of the electoral collegea. Some do not have presidential candidates, and only field candidates for Congressional and/or state-level offices.
^a The 2008 presidential ticket of the Socialist Party USA was qualified in enough states to win the electoral college through a combination of state ballot qualifications and official write-in status.[1]
Some of these parties have nominated candidates in the past, but have not done so recently for various reasons. Others have not yet nominated any candidates.
Few, if any, of these parties have nominated presidential candidates. The years are when they were founded.

Well, that's not going to lead to good discussion. You're suspended for a day for violating #1 of the Code of Honor.
i do renovation , am licensed and insured, and would certianly appreciate any funds going in that direction. many these days are rather tight fisted and unfortunatly compare custom work to items made in a factory in china. Had the captains of buisiness not continued their war against the american worker low these many years, (think free trade), perhaps we could hold our heads up as a nation. If wall street did not own most of the political establishment, rebublican and democrat, we might just be able to have a democracy. The american people have been swayed by falacious argument that any form of capitalism is good. We and other countries would do better,I believe , to insist on not having exstreme trade imbalences. To allow suffering at such a mass scale is unconsionable. i think the recent german model of rationing hours and achieving wider employment is better then leaving many with too much time and rapidly diminishing means.
Wow! What did the government tell you to wear today? The yellow shirt or the blue one? Do you really think that the government should ration hours? Do you really need the government to fund home improvements for you to get work? Amazing.
I wouldn't mind if the government mandated every worker get 8 weeks a year paid vacation. Americans work a lot more hours than other first world countries.
Clotho,
Why do you think our GDP is 5 times bigger than any other country except Japan?
Being lazy is no way to succeed.
Clotho,
Jobs are going to China because their people work hard for less money. Very simply put, they are out-producing us. How does more vacation and less work in the U.S. help improve our competitive advantage ??
Put down the Bong and wake up to world economic reality. Someone has to pull the cart, not everyone can take a free ride.
Actually we should go to a 4 day work week and at least 6 week vacation. It would make the economy much more efficient.
Not true productivity of American labor force is highest in the world. We make dream liners they make junk for walmart. Unskilled Unit labor cost is less in China.
Amazing, we live in such an instant ready made society that these very same idiots think it should apply to the economy as well.
It took several years for the economy to tank, why would anyone think it could recover in less time???
Yet, I bet these are the same people who have 10's of thousands in credit card debt because they can't control their own spending.
Amazing.
no but being all these bills being crammed down our throats are in the trillions. And our goverment can't even order the correct amount of swine flu vaccine, it will throw us in the worst hyper-inflation you ever seen if it continues.
We have no credit card debt, but thanks for your concern.
No reasonable person would expect a "fix" in 10 months, you're absolutely right.
Millions of resonable people expected policies that would correct the situation, not make it worse. That is not unresonable, and it is also not happening.
Virtually every single thing this administration has done has served to exacerbate the problems we have, not resolve them. With the threat of Crap & Tax and health care legislation hanging over businesses' heads, those destructive policies continue.
but it will make Al and Reid (who by the way has interest in Wynn) very rich
"if" anyone would bother to look at the history of this Nation, it has a recession every 96 months (give or take a few months). The recessions have always corrected on its own, but now we think we have to play with it, the last time someone decided to "FIX" the economy sent us into a depression! "If" we leave it alone, it will come back to an equilibrium, a balance if you will, all we have to do is leave it alone. No man can control this beast, No man! Well, they do a great job EXPLOITING it though! The Government that is!
This is not a normal recession cycle like 2002-03. It's not even like the one we had under Reagan in the early 1980s. The actual economists (not laypeople like me who post on web forums) agree that this is the worst economic situation since the Great Depression.
In addition, nearly every economist agrees that drastic measures, including the distasteful bailout and stimulus, were essential to prevent a second depression. The deficit is a huge problem, and one we'll need to figure out. But for now, the government's main focus is on economic recovery, not balancing the budget that's been out of control for years.
I'm guessing BS is NOT a Pulitzer prize winning economist like Paul Krugman, based on the above comment? Being no economic expert myself, I'll choose to rely on the experts, especially when there is a consensus.
The fact is, China needs us almost as much as we need it. America buys a lot of product from China, plus the fact that they need us to be economically healthy in order to pay back what we've borrowed. So when the time comes to reduce the deficit, China can't simply take over.
Clinton had the last surplus about $200 billion. Reagan made 35 % of our deficit 18% was left over from world war 2 Bushes racked up the most about 40% and Obama watch has 10%. Which could only be prevented by immediately pulling all troops and creating a great depression 2. Three million dollars a minute is going out 30% defense and 19% interest. I don't know why the government is paying so much interest when the current loan rate is .25% it was actually below o a few month back. People were paying the government to take their money.
wow lets just blame everything on president obama these united states have been a mess before the president before the ex president an before him , no man can clean this mess up an no man after him will clean it up ,they can try to do what the can,but its no one person fault, and all these crazy congress man talking before thinking, these men never talked out loud calling mr bush lier, what message are our congress men sending to the world and our children we have no respect for our president or our goverment, congress please get over it president obama is a black man in charge accept it and move on, rep are so upset your looking to sara for help what a sad joke,

Wow TCANTB, I can tell by that excellent grammar that you are definitely part of Obama's base. Do us a favor in all subsequent elections and don't vote. Thanks.
TCANTB:
don't know if you noticed, and apparently you have not noticed, but the Honorable G.W. Bush served two terms, was term-limited and is no longer President of the United States.
From January 21, 2009 to the present 0bama is in charge of good, bad or indifferent.
Thats just a fact and it really galls idiots that their Savior is making mistakes, over and over, and over again.
sorry about the grammer but no need to personal attack i must have got my point across grammer or not because lots of feed back truth will hurt,
Truth is this is a combination of Chicago politics at its worse. San Fransisco libreal free to all that does not work. And Las Vegas Mafia rolled all togeather to rip us off.
tcantb
your right, the dumb monkey is our president, but most of us here are sick of his give away programs to the lazy loafers who dont work and I think were just blaming obama for what he justly deserves-causing the usa great depression in just 10 short months, a stimulous package that raised unemployment from 8% to over 10% and a failed socialist health care bill he's about to force down our throats where people like me who pay for things will have to pay for loafers like you who always have there hands out for a free-be!!
GER139:"your right, the dumb monkey is our president"
No further comment needed.
He is the smartest person since Kennedy to be president. Kennedy cut taxes and stimulated the economy. Reagan was not smart at all but was a leader. The fact that he lead us down the cut taxes on the rich and spend all the money we can road may turn out bad. If interest rate government debt goes back up to 20% on t bill we are in deep trouble.
How about calling for Obama's resignation along with Pelosi's, Geither's, H. Clinton's and all the "czars" that Obama has appointed to key positions? And everybody vote for a candidate not affiliated with either major party. Maybe we'll get the "change" we were all looking for.
Wow...well Bush certainly did a good job in his 8 years. Amazing.

YES WE CAN = Mantra for the brain dead!!!!
Hope and Change.....I Hope, there will be some Change left, when Oblahblah leaves office!
We have a two party system like it or not. Third party candidates are spoilers in that game. You and I can't change that . SO figure out another way.
Sounds like ole Jimmy in on the Indoctrination Kool-Aid train again. When is your Messiah going to take responsibility for Quadrupling the deficit in 10 months. He has a net lose of 7.3 million jobs. (3.8 million lost since taking office and the 3.5 million he promised the spendulus would create) But instead he managed to brainwash idiots like you to still Blame GWB. You are a "F"ing Disgrace!
popeyethesailor,
On second thought, maybe the Bong would be good for you...you babble incoherently and you make no sense, you can't spell and it is obvious you could not even begin to backup the numbers you throw out.

Sorry JimmBo but what he say is 100% right. Its the greedy that have wipe out this country and its Robot like you that have help them do it.
Reagan raise my taxes by $10,000 a year. He was as evil as evil dick Chaney.
And he created 35% of our deficit. But Bushes Paid me $15000 a year for next 15 year not to farm. So I'm $5000 up.
I say dig him up cut off his head and drive a stake through his heart. O and if you did know Reagan was originally a democrat.
Oh My God there is still someone in Washington with brains and is thinking of the people back home and trying to do a good job! I am white and may have to join the BC, at least their heads seem to be in the right place
GO RON PAUL
If, he runs again. I will vote for him.
Ron Paul also has my vote anytime if he runs. The other blabbering idiots are now scrambling for survival as their angry constituents are venting at them. They are willing to throw everyone else under the bus but not take blame themselves as election time creeps closer.
go go Ron Paul!!!
fluuuush--nobody in the congress or the administration is listening to any of you--fllluuuuusssssshhhhhh
you can yak your heads off; nobody that makes policy is listening to the posters here; you're talking to the toilet--fluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuush
Welcome to the toilet whatashame!
They're listening, trust me... they're listening.
Funny how this is a liberal news site and 89% of the comments on this page have come from angry concervative Americans. There aren't many hope and changers left in America. Come on 2010!
The angry people who have lost all power in the executive and legislative branches are more vocal (being angry and all). Online blogs are even less of an indication of the American people than weekly polling.
During the bush years, there was a lot more anti-bush talk than pro-bush, for the same reason. Out of hundreds of millions, a couple of hundred are bothering to post.
Bush made a lot of mistakes and the Republicans paid for them. Obama was elected because he promised change and transparency. Obama has spent more in one year than Bush did in eight years. Everyone knows that we can not afford this health care bill. Obama knows we can't afford this Bill, but the Democrats don't care, they want to make History. The only way the Democrats would win my support is if Obama made a speech stating that this bill should be passed, but now is not the time considering the state of the economy and the national debt, but that's never going to happen.
Wait until you see the "job bill" their trying to come up with.
Bush made four big mistakes if you are a republican and one if you are a democrat.
Yet it;s the dems who are pissed off the most.
Now barry comes along and he has made so many mistakes I can't even keep track anymore. Yet the democrats think this phony has it all figured out.
How in the hell do you explain that?
Obama has spent more in one year than Bush did in eight years.
Actually, once you subtract the bi-partisan stimulus and the bailout (passed under bush), that's not true. I know all will agree that a new President inheriting a near-Depression can't be compared to a President inheriting a record surplus, so those costs must be discounted. Just if someone wants to be fair and bipartisan.
Yeah but Bush drove us into debt to play toy soldiers in his 'lil sandbox called Iraq.
A small but important correction: Obama has spent more and run the deficit up more in one year than ANY, yes ANY, of his predecessors combined. That's since the first George W - that's Washington! Bush overspent, but it is NOTHING compared to what this man has in store for us.
This is what they get for rubber stamping Obama's apointees, He has appointed nothing but a bunch of tax cheats and socialists who are intent in turning this country into a third world nation, or of bringing America down. Hey congress start at the top with Obama Himself. He is the root of the trouble. He hates America! Why haven't they demanded his real birth certificate, just Because N. Peelousy signed a document saying he was elgibile, doesn't mean a thing she is as big a liar as Obama is. America its time to demand some answers from these people.
Its already starting to look like a Third World Country around here. Since no one can afford to pay their mortgage or rent, tent cities are popping up in various vacant lots and woods, I pass one every time I go to the job center where I look for jobs that don't really exist. Of all the people I know, I'd have to say at least 67% of them are out of work. Illegal aliens are turning themselves in and asking to be sent home because they can no longer make it here. Those people are not as dumb as we all make them out to be, they know when to jump the sinking ship. All of you that are still doing ok for the moment aren't complaining. I wonder if the tables would be turned if you all of a sudden lost your job, or home, or that fancy cash for clunkers car you just got. There was something not right with this administration from the beginning and its just now coming to light. At least Bush held the rope so we all didn't fall overboard. Obama keeps letting it slip out of his hands and one by one we all fall in.

Ophelia 13,
Now That's the America Michelle Obama for once is proud of.
The amazing thing here is that these lawmakers of both parties who are now calling for Geitner's head, and expressing serious reservations about the administration's commitment to fixing the economic situation, are the same lawmakers who put us into this situation in the first place. It wasn't just the Democrats who pushed for legislation to ease home loan underwriting. It was, and remains, member of both parties. Fannie, Freddie, Countrywide, BOA, Merrill Lynch were in the pockets of all of them. What they are doing now is nothing more than grandstanding for their constituents because they fear losing their jobs. Period.
The notion that this economic meltdown, our economic 9/11 if you will, which was years in the making, should already have been cured by a new administration that is barely 10 months into the job is ludicrous. The Republicans want Obama to fail so they can gain more seats in the 2010 elections, period. The Democrats want to retain the seats they have in the 2010 elections, period.
People have forgotten that it was Paulson under Bush who put through the first bailout, the one that put all the big money in the hands of the few, wealthy Wall Streeters, to the tune of $700 bln. The members of congress of both parties shake the faith of voters with their hypocrisy and grandstanding, gestures solely rooted in their desire to save their own hide at all cost. This is not an Obama problem. He didn't do it, he didn't cause it. He is trying to fix it. It will take time. Sadly we have these awful people called senators and congressman standing in the way of progress.
People haven't forgotten that but they also know that geithner was right at the center of that bailout as well and he's still around.
Jimmy, you need to see a head shrink, Obama has caused it all, and he's just getting started, wait till they pass obama care- then we will all be out of jobs as most businesses will leave the country to avoid paying for it.
Do you actually think the senate will pass obama-care,the economy is a mess, with over ten percent unemployment, and this stimulus money when it runs out is just wasteful spending. Would anybody here trust the government with there health care?
Jimmy, I think that most people posting here are bright enough to agree that President Obama came into office with the economy already in the tank and a large national debt. The reason for the outrage on this vine is because the policies put forth by the President and Congress are not helping to turn the economy around, but to further put the clamps on it. In addition, the various programs such as the stimulus bill, cap and trade, and health care "reform" are going to push that national debt to a point where our currency will likely collapse. Should we consider the affects of amnesty to illegal aliens as well? Starting to make sense?
Throw in the attempts by the current government to take away freedoms, promote class and race warefare, and demonize the successful, and we have an even bigger disaster looming just around the corner. The idea that the President can "fix" the economy is the silliest notion out there. The President and Congress need to promote policies that encourage innovation and hard work and knock down barriers to success. WE can fix it if THEY would just get out of the way. At least that is my opinion.
"Throw in the attempts by the current government to take away freedoms, promote class and race warefare, and demonize the successful"
I'm curious, what exact bills promote that? I've heard these spread around but they are factless assertions promoted by pundits and partisan opinion leaders.
Furthermore, the economy has gotten better since the beginning of the year. The only indicator that it hasn't is the job market, but most people with a shred of economic history know that is the slowest and hardest aspect to bring back.
The current health care bills for starters. Are some people not going to lose the freedom to not carry health insurance? Are others not going to lose their current coverage and be forced into government options? Is the government not going to have access to our financial records. Who is the government targeting to pay for health care "reform"? Is it not the "wealthy"?
In general, do you think that the President and Congress are not trying to take money from those who they call "rich" and giving to those who the rich have oppressed? Are all people who work at banks and financial institutions not guilty of stealing from the poor? How about the idea of illegal alien amnesty? Why do we need black and Hispanic caucuses? Is the idea of the "fairness doctrine" not an attack on free speach?
Hate to tell you this but I am not a partisan of any political party. I equally despise the Rebublicans and Democrats. I believe in the constitution and people being rewarded for their hard work and ingenuity. I am just worried that we have gone from bad to worse to scary horrible and am putting my voice out there to make my opinion heard. I hope that helps.
The country got hoodwinked in the past election. The United States should have on our ballot the same as some other European counties have
[ ] c. None of the above.
If "C" wins, as I certainly thought would have happened on this past presidential election if we had this option. Neither candidate is allowed to be on the next ballot, and we start again. This wouldn't happen to many times before you get better qualified people running for the office. And I agree with a few other people here and elsewere, Vote them ALL out.. If it says "Incumbent" next to their name. A little fact the Demorcrats and Republicans might not know, "it's on every ballot." THAT one word should be a death sentence. Re-elect no one, that will certainly make you voice heard.. "No incumbents, No exceptions, No mercy."
In most countrys they would have dragged them all out and thrown them in prison for stealing from the people
I totally agree. It is each and every citizen's duty at this time to vote EVERY incumbent out so we send a clear message. The time for parties to claim they have a mandate and then let the lobbyists write any legislation they want is OVER. We all need to stand up and be held accountable. If we look in the mirror and see the future, then we will be ok. If we are looking for someone else to do the dirty work, then we will get what we deserve.
Angry Congress lashes out at Obama
He's a media whore not a leader.
Congress has got some balls blaming Obama for our mess. Congress is the ones that got us into all this trouble. Letting Bush start two wars that we can't win and only made the World security worst, and put us deep in debt, war cost almost 1 trillion dollars, and 3 trillion+ dollars in debt. Congress remove the restraints from the finical industry so they could plunder the Country. Then gave them billions of dollars of our money, to pay themselves bonuses for the great job they did of robbing us. I can't believe these hypocrites can even show their faces. What a bunch of slime balls we have in Congress. You want blame Obama after 10 months in office? If you are going to do something, clean out the Senators and Congressmen from your own state. No, you don't have the brains or guts to do the real job, just babble your stupid crap here.
LOL...We CAN win any war. You have to want to win to do it though. When we stopped wanting to win, or started being politically correct is when we started our retreat. Want to win in Afghanistan? Drop a nuke in those mountains and it is over for the terrorists living there. Obama cannot make decisions. All he does is travel the worldsaying "look at me ain't I something". NO!!! One term and out for this one. We need a leader. LOL...After 10 months in office he has already put us 3 trillion in debt and now wants another trillion for his stupid healthcare plan WE can't afford. And, by the way, I am voting against ALL incumbents and career politicians. They no longer work for us citizens. They work for the lobbyists. Bet you drive a foreign car too like an idiot. Now go back to sleep under your rock you goofball. And take your security blanket with you. This world is too dangerous for you. LEARN IT!!!!
Winning wars is pretty easy for America. We don't lose wars. Ask anyone who was in Vietnam. We won virtually every battle there. What we lose is the peace. What we lose is the occupations. History demonstrates over and over and over again, ad nauseum, that no occupier ever wins a final peace unless the country that is occupied wants it. Afghanistan is as good an example as there is. The Soviets (and many others before them) were brought to their economic knees trying to win the peace there. It wasn't Reagan or any other president who won the 'Cold War'. It was Afghanistan. They choked the USSR until they were so weak the could no longer rule their empire. You may recall the parade of participants who were involved in Indochina, Vietnam, Cambodia, et. al, who were run out of that region before we got there. You can't continue to spend trillions of dollars on wars and the military and expect at home you will be able to build highways and bridges, provide health and education and services to your citizens and compete on the world market if you aren't focused on those things. Personally I think we'd be better off spending our money on education both here and abroad. The smarter people are, the more productive they are, the less likely they are to be religious or political fanatics of any stripe.
If we had politicians who were not beholden to special interest groups, as all of our legislators are, maybe they'd vote for America instead of those who pad their campaign coffers and bank accounts. Both sides of the aisle are 'lashing out' at each other, trying to outdo one another politicially, virtually always to the detriment of America, and to the glee of insurance companies, big banks, lawyers, and the list goes on and on. Until and unless we remove all the incentives elected officials gain through the financing that comes from those with agendas to drive legislation, we'll never have a representative government.
