Goldman, Buffett to help small businesses

"Goldman Sachs Group Inc. is teaming with billionaire investor Warren Buffett to invest $500 million to provide thousands of small business owners across America with college scholarships and boost their access to capital."

"Goldman set aside $16.71 billion through the first nine months of the year for compensation, including salaries, bonuses and other benefits"

Ya, that seems pretty fair...

So let me get this right, the big complaint coming from many during this past year was that Wall Street was giving big salaries and bonuses that were not based on performance, companies were doing poorly and their execs. still made the big bucks.

So now the complaint seems to be that Goldman Sachs, who happens to be having a great year, is actually going to reward their execs. and other employees based on their good performance. HUH! Folks you cannot have it both ways.

Goldman should, and likely will, structure those payouts in such a way as not to drive excessive risk taking, but they have every right to, and should, reward employees and execs. who helped Goldman have such a great year with those big payouts. Besides, taxes on those bonus payments will help lower our federal budget deficit.

If every big exec. was like Warren Buffett or Bill Gates we would not even be having these discussions. And we'd all have good healthcare too.

Imagine that. Voluntary social responsibility.
