Isn't this what the Stimulus was for? I can't wait for them to pass health care and then 6 months later tell us that we have to do something to cover the unisured and lower costs. Or maybe shortly after they pass it is Biden can come out and tell the country, My Bad, we guessed wrong!

He says "Job losses expected to continue", and does he say why?

It is because the money supply that is almost entirely bank credit is deflating. This deflation is built into the monetary system. Banks create money when we borrow. Money dissapears when we pay back. It is built to be that way.

The total debt reached a level such that for the first time in decades we started to pay back more than we borrow. To make up the difference, government steps in and spends, meanwhile FED prints money. But the debt is huge. If real economy cannot service the debt, then it will deflate. With deflation, there is less and less money available to earn. That is why it is hard to employ people at these salary levels. Obama is unluky that he is the president at the time of deflation. Check out the total bank credit chart that shows deflation for the first time in decades:

http://www.tradingstocks.net/html/inflation_deflation_credit_bub.html

To avoid this problem, FED can print money. But if the USD collapses, the consumer won't have any money to buy anything beyond necessities. That will have adverse effect on consumer economy. Thus there is no good way out of this. The debt simply needs to be paid back and that is a recession.

Nuttier than a fruitcake;

The U.S. and business must find a way to "create" jobs? That's being vague even for vague. Until there's regulations put back in place, there WON'T be jobs, and more will be lost.

As long as NAFTA, CAFTA, CFTA, the WTO all still exist, as long as we're expected to compete with third world, dirt poor, government welfare-state nations, they're won't be any economy or jobs.

American business CAN profit here; but thanks to the Illegal Fed Reserve and the career politicians, profit has been corrupted into greed, greed for the same corp.'s that during this recession (depression) have been allowed to break anti-trust laws during times of "exteme distress"; growing larger than some of the original TBTF.

Until America is treated as such; having an economy based on American living standards, wages, and actually being a nation and NOT just one of the Illegal Federal Reserve's many whores, no regulations and profitting where ever and whenever possible, at all costs, we're in for more and more downward spirals.

Create jobs? That's YOUR job, if you truly do represent this Nation and Her People. Regulate, bring true capitalism back, create boundaries... treat America like a nation and the nation it is. But, expecting career politicians to listen to the will and do for the betterment of their constituents is no longer an option... this is what they continually tell us every time we're further screwed by them.

Globalization should mean, for America, that we produce goods that others want at a rate equal to or greater than we consume, and DEFINATELY at a rate greater than we import... NOT that deregulated business can profiteer at the cost of the welfare of Our Nation, to third world countries and their living conditions.

Million dollar babies; career Dems, Repubs, and the Federal Reserve.. the true axis of evil.

By their reasonings, we can either live as China or India does, or become a welfare state... that's THEIR definition of what a "free market" is. Free market... what a laugh this is. When's the last time it WASN'T manipulated?

But, he (President Obama) said, "The reason we're here today is because we just are not where we need to be yet. We've got a long way to go.

Someone please tell this moron of a President to stop stating the obvious that most educated Americans already know. And to the quote above....good grief....give me a freakin' break. What a bunch of say nothing but say alot of it.

Mr. Obama your way with words will be better suited for the fictional literary. Please do not insult our intelligence. We too went to school. We have had enough of your rhetorics. We are now well aware of your well-calibrated but empty speeches about the economy and the unemployment issues. Oh, yes, you also have craftily deflected these issues, including Afghanistan, to debates about healthcare reform, and, global warming.

OK so this press op should have but didn't include the FIRING if Tim Geithner. Not even a mention of CIT and the 2+BILLION dollars down the drain for the bailout.

He going to certainly repeat and reiterate that he pulled this economy back from the brink. All I can say is PROVE IT. Prove that we were in such a bad way that it would have been more than short term pain as opposed to this long and drawn out drain of public funds and future tax debt.

It is time for the Federal Government to put the power back into the hands of the people. Time to start slashing the FEDERAL budget and reducing the cost of Government.

I think those in Congress and the Executive Branch should take a 10% cut in pay and forgo any increases coming their way. I think they should all have to take a 10% reduction in staff across the board. They should eliminate another 15% of their operating budget and discontinue any non-essential travel. At least that is a start.

So there is my input MR. President, as you made a request for ideas from across the board.

Tighten our financial belt until we are through this mess. Reduce Government spending and Government programs so that investment comes from the Private sector instead of TAX Payer dollars.

And while you are at it Mr. President tell the States that have created hostile Corporate legislation to fix their individual messes to encourage business back into their States.

"Calls for businesses and govt. to create jobs?" If the governemnt keeps trying to pass these ridiculous bills they are trying to pass, there will be no jobs. Are you going to just force businesses to hire next, Mr. President?

I thought this is what your stimulus package was supposed to do. This is nothing but more rhetoric and propaganda by NBC. Come on guys, it's getting old, you are fooling less and less of America every day.

Why am I not surprised. Obama pushed for the stimulus to be passed in order to prevent job losses and this is the reality.

The government and the greedy need to be overthrown. Obama is changing his words from jobs created to jobs saved. Now, we're seeing that companies are lying about the job creations and doubling their numbers. Now, we're seeing that giving a pay raise to a worker is considered a 'saved' job.

The BS needs to stop.

Exactly, Tom! He claimed the stimulus would save or create millions of jobs and that unemployment wouldn't go above 8%. Now he's passing it off job creation and growing the economy on the public and private sectors.

And how do you propose we pay for these govt jobs and large building projects, Obama already blew the load on the first stimulus. Maybe we should just issue another trillion to build a couple of dams, but the EPA and other tree huggers would only get in the way and we would blow a third of it on litigation and attorney fees. Brilliant.

The private sector must find a way to create jobs, says Obama? Then why did he he bail out Geithner's buddies on Wall Street instead of "stimulating" Main Street businesses with an access to loans? Now, with CIT going bankrupt, consider these thoughts:

The so called quick surgical bankruptcy of CIT will result in a company that will only be able to provide 20% of its previous level of financial services to Middle America according to Friday's Wall Street Journal.

Any institutions replacing these services will have:

                1. Higher levels of credit worthiness to be met by small business.

                2. Less funds committed to these loans.

Further, the assets of CIT in bankruptcy are the middle American loans outstanding that will be brutally attacked by the bankruptcy process.

That is going to result in a flood of middle American businesses declaring bankruptcy.

Obama, your stupid exhortation is like telling a dead man to rise up and give it one more try. Unless you truly are the Messiah, as you believe, I don't see you breathing life into this dead man's economy.

The U.S. wants to compete? We can't compete equally with countries like China because their costs of living are so low. $12.00 per hour vs. $2.00 is impossible to compare. We are always going to loose against those numbers. Competition is great if it doesn't kill you....look at the airline industry,I don't see anyone doing very well in that ultra competitive industry. There has been more money lost in the airline industry than has been made.

There is a good reason to have regulation and import tariffs to balance out everything otherwise you can expect all the best paying jobs to go over seas, and soon. The sooner we get politicians in Washington that will do the bidding of the PEOPLE instead of special interests (ie. Wall Street) the better we ALL will be.

$2/hr is not the average hourly pay in china. even at that rate, they live a comfortable middle class life. however, $2/hr in pakistan provides a standard of living approaching royalty.

it's all relative, by the cost of living in each country. don't delude yourself into thinking that labor costs are the primary reason US businesses go overseas. in fact it's not even in the top 3. quit watching cnn and msnbc and educate yourself.

We can compete with the Europeans and Japanese since they have similar ideas re: environment, safety, workers rights

no, we cannot compete any longer with the europeans and japanese. when their governmental agencies issue rules about the environment, safety, worker rights etc., they have to consider the net impact of job losses and effect on financial health of the employer. that has never been a consideration in the US, nor is allowed to be considered. our trade competitors love when democrats are in power as they know they can take more of our employers offshore.

What small business owner in his right mind would be willing to even think of hiring today when there is such a questionable future as to how much in taxes he will end up having to pay once Barry gets done with his agenda. There's no one lending credit to the small business for the very same reason, Obama's agenda. The banks are stocking up their reserves for fear of penalties that this WH is brewing up to have their control. Best news I heard all day is Ford's $1Billiion dollar profit. Screw the WH, they did it on their own.

if you red the article, they made there money on the WH (cash for clunkers) and cutting cost. So in a way they did not do it on their own. They used the tax payers money to make the billion dollars.

...but remember, they saved or created nearly a million jobs. It's just that it is hard to quantify how many jobs were really saved and where these jobs were actually created. But it sure sounds good to say that, don't it? It also sounds good to throw all these reports around stating how recovery is on its way too. I guess you can say anything really. But what matters are real results- what is really being done, what can be counted and quantified. What is really happening and what is actually being done. The rest is a bunch of double-speaking, smoke & mirrors crap.

It is plain that grate leader is completely unaware of the economy and what is needed to invigorate it. When one is never questioned one thinks all they need to do is get on TV and speak and all is well. One thing for sure job losses will continue.

Job losses are expected to continue proclaims the Marxist in Chief? Didn't this clown say that his massive shamulus bill was going to create jobs and keep the level of unemployment from going above 8%. Here's a little lesson for you Mr. Marxist Community Organizer in Chief with no accomplishments. When you and your pals are pushing for more government control and higher taxes jobs cannot be created. Businesses and any person with common sense realizes that you can't spend your way out of debt. How can that possibly make sense? Businesses realize that higher taxes are coming from you and your Marxist policies when tax cuts to industry that would encourage expansion are in order. No business wants to hire employees and expand when their very existence is being threatened by goverment intrusion and taxes. Get a clue Obama. People in this country do not want your Marxist policies and businesses cannot operate under these policies.

What WE can do is march on it en mass next July 4th, a day everyone can remember... tell them that they have 30 days to stop immigration and depart all illegals (GM can build the new busses, Greyhound can start a whole new line, give us OUR tax dollars back instead of giving it to banks so they can loan it back to us with interest, stop uneven trade policies i.e. NAFTA etc... or we'll be back!

What did you expect? Anything different? This administration "PROMISED" change...however it is a total opposite! He is listening to his selection of "so-called experts" where they failed themselves previously.

The writing was on the wall; the direction of our elected officials was to take care of the government "first"...before "the people". There are a lot of people out there that do want hand outs, but the majority of "the people" probably are very upset with the direction of our government.

Hopefully, next year "we the people" will vote more responsively! Then we can start to turn this country around based on our "Constitution"

Every day, every time he says anything, Obama proves how useless and ineffective he truly is.

After ALL he SAID he was GOING to do compared to what he has accomplished, the fact is, not only has he NOT accomplished ANYTHING, everything continues to get much worse by the minute.

Forclosues? continue to skyrocket. Unemployment? Out of control and has been exceeding 20% since last July. Business closings? More every day. Americans are NOT spending; businesses are NOT hiring; banks are NOT lending; Afganistan is a train wreck, but he won't listen to the generals HE selected. His administration is saturated with "hard core, tax cheats, communist and socialist leaning idiots and his liberal buddies around the country are going to ose their re-election bids.

America owes it's SOUL to the Chinese and all Obama can do is TALK.

The mood of America since "hope and change" was elected is "Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt!"

Definitely NOT the "hope and change" America expected!

IF Obama "actually completes his 1st term" he will get CRUSHED if he chooses to run for re-election. He has ZERO chances and his legacy will be one of the WORST and most DISMAL FAILURES in the our American History.

DJ, I'm with you. Based on what's happening around the country, it seems Americans have "finally" figured that out. I've said for years that we don't have "2 parties" we only have ONE; it called the Washington Party.

They all love to point fingers at each other; Wall Street, etc., but late at night, while America sleeps, they UNANIMOUSLY vote THEMSELVES pay raises, etc.

They're all buddies and the could care less about the voters.

Yes, I dont see the difference between the democrats and republicans. They are both the same s!@t. They both suck, and we need more parties in power than only two majoors and dozens of little ones.

"Obama call s for action by government?" Really?

Mr. President, I heard somewhere that you were taking care of that? Isn't that where you work? Duh?

That's like the the CEO of McDonalds saying we need to teach our cooks (congress) how to fix our burgers?

Come on Mr. President, admit it, "You have NO idea what's going on, let alone how to fix it!"

                        He's an idiot!
