As far as quality is concerned, remember how made in Japan was such a joke? Now they're highest rated. Don't count on China staying lame forever. The military has been looking at changing to Land Rovers, so not a big issue with Hummer. If this "selling off America to China" doesn't let up, we will all be living on Chinese owned land, working in Chinese companies, and earning Chinese wages.

At least we won't have to worry about health care, they are building a national health care system, like the vast majority of the rest of the world.

No, this is strictly the civilian P.O.S. Hummers (H2, H3, H3T, Etc). The military versions will still be American made. Noone would ever let that one slide...I hope.

W. Kline, there is no connection between the civilian Hummer and the military Hummer, which is made by AM GENERAL, obviously a defense contractor.

It has always been this way, as far as I know.

The original Hummer, the H1 and the newer H2 were made made by AM General for GM, GM only ever built the H3, and still do. I believe this deal was to be like the Saturn deal where GM will build for 2 years only, then you are on your own.

The AM General HUMVEE is the military counterpart to the now discontinued H1 Hummer . The HUMVEE is obsolete and its successors are undergoing testing. If China wants to continue building an obsolete vehicle then more power to them. I am pretty sure this deal doesn't include the H1 anyway. Our main combat vehicle (in Iraq at least) is the MRAP. It is much more capable of surviving the reality of IEDs and suicide bombers and has frustrated the enemy because of its protection of it's cargo (soldiers). I hope the vehicle that replaces the HUMVEE is as protective of our soldiers as the MRAP.

There is no military version of the Hummer. The original H1 was a civilian version of the military HUMVEE. The two other turds are the H2 (a gussied up 2nd generation Tahoe) and the H3 (based on the Izuzu designed sad sack Colorado pick up).

More Capitalist than us? Not really, just a different and more humane take on it. The "neo" Socialist, if you will, is not limiting one's ability to acquire wealth as some are mislead to believe in the US. The socialism being practiced in China and The former Soviet Union are simply saying that you can make all the wealth you want, but no one falls below a certain line socially.

They actually do support and respect business owners and no longer dissuade a capitalistic outlook. Common citizens are encouraged to start up small businesses. This instills a sense of Government support in the average person.

The US citizens on the other hand, do indeed vilify the rich, not because we despise them, but because we no longer trust them. The greed of Capitalism left unchecked by a social safety net to protect the well being of it's citizenry soon becomes barbaric and uncaring. Communities are abandoned, tax laws abused, and healthcare ignored, or worse, exploited. Wealth moves to the top at an ever accelerated rate and the system fails.

Anyone that has played Monopoly knows the eventual outcome. One person walks away with everything. In real life, rules must be made and enforced to ensure fairness. The "free" market never was and never will be. It is an illusion created by those that wish to produce monopolies and they have been winning so far in the US.

Happy, healthy people are more productive, loyal, and patriotic. Basic human needs are not only for the privileged. Any system that supports this has historically failed.

We need to shed a lot of backward thinking and blatant lies in order to move this country forward. Will we do it? I'm beginning to wonder.

Kysrsoze.......Saw Hummer, I think it was an H-2 model, this summer at the campground where we were visiting. It was towing an old model 10 foot pop-up travel trailer. the hitch was so high up that the trailer was at at least a 20 degree angle behind the truck. My wife said that after they bought the truck they probably could not afford a newer trailer.

About as base as you can get! It's being replaced when we found out in Iraq that they were death traps for our soldiers.

There was a tax incentive that allowed companies to buy these and deduct the expense from the corporate tax bill. it included Hummers, Dodge Rams and a lot of other gas sucking polluters.

New vehicles all have to meet the same emission standards. One of the BIG LIES of the AlGore crowd is that of the polluting truck. IT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE. Heavy Duty trucks have more relaxed standards but a 1/2 ton Ram isn't one. It has to meet the same standard as a four cylinder Tacoma. Same with any Hummer under an 8500 gross vehicle weight. They can't pollute any more because they all have to meet the same emission standards.

My American truck is powered by a 2.3 liter overhead cam four cylinder with twin-plug distributorless ignition and sequential port fuel injection. It has a seven foot bed which has carried lumber, motorcycles, tools, appliances,furniture as well as luggage. Try that with a Prius. It gets 22-24 mpg. around town and right at 30 on the highway. It does have a bug deflector but the only Rush that gets any play is the 3 piece Canadian band.

Actually, this is one of the smartest things GM could do. Hummer was a dying portion of GM's fold, causing GM to lose millions of dollars. They can't get rid of their inventory. Spot on! They could care less about the Hummers....it's the dealer network that's more valuable. The same deal with Fiat buying Chrysler...they want the distribution network already in place so they don't have to build/negotiate for space. All they gotta do is unload the cars onto the lots. The contract to build Hummers is helping GM by keeping their factories running another two years. When that's done, so are the Hummers.

The Chinese have deep pockets, so they will suffer the $$$ losses for a while to get in the door. The only question is where they will place "chase" and imitate other companies in the USA marketplace or will they try something different and Go Green in the USA to see what works before doing it in China.
