Talk about kicking a neighbor while he's down: Nevada is spending $250,000 on an ad that tells California business owners they can "kiss their assets goodbye" if they stay put.
Battered Nevada takes aim at Calif. businesses

California and business an oxymoron.
the golden state is not so GOLDEN anymore..It's near as bad as Bangkok, officials everywhere to fine ya for anything...money, money,money..what a shame..............
Tax competition between states is a good thing. Too bad we can't get more tax competition between countries.
Folks:
I am surprised there is not a little more interest in this topic. The whole deal about "stealing business" to any other state is stupid, especially in the tiny number of jobs these jerks are touting.
This country has forgotten how to make jobs, real jobs that last, making real stuff that people in this country and other countries need.
The job lost we have suffered are to a great extent in areas where there will be little or no recovery....housing....mortgage banking....real estate....home sales support....title insurance....escrow....car and truck manufacturing....appliances....building materials production and sales.
It kind of looks like only the banking and financial sectors are going to have any jobs, but not for long if this country does not get up off it's butt and start developing the jobs necessary to stay a great country. Even the banks will go broke if there is no money in this country, and we can't all work at WalMart selling Chinese goods; we can't all work flipping burgers; we can't all be telemarketers; and we all can't be politicians or work for the government.
By the way, California is a sucky place to do business, but Nevada was built for suckers.
Good Luck!
fishy,
I agree with you. The good and bad thing about free markets is that the jobs go to those who are willing to work for a dollar a day. In the short term thats great for us because we can buy tons of cheap plastic crap we don't need, but we've gotten ourselves in a position where we're not ourselves manufacturing products that the world needs and selling at-profit. Taken as a business, America is hemmorhaging losses. The politicians refuse to entertain any protectionist notions for fear of a trade war, but meanwhile the defacto condition is that other economies use protectionism against us. I guarantee you that if we slapped 100% tariff on foreign automobiles our domestic production would come back to life.
The business that Nevada will get are low skilled version. Nevada's universities are nothing compared to California's. Nevada is basically the destination for all the dumbasses in the nation.
Oh and I am an actual Nevadan.
You are right. How dumb did Nevadans have to be to elect Gibbons and Ensign? LOL
Wrong!
I live in Reno and we got two California computer software firms with 50 employees to agree to move this coming month!
Our goal is get ten more before the end of the year. Northern Nevada is Way better off then the south!
Paul, what are they names of the two software companies. The only one I know of in the Reno area, where I live is PC Doctor.
I do know of some good people/companies in N. Nevada. I have never worked with PC Doctor, but I have heard of them. Some of the things I've had to deal with, are from after they got their hands on a customer. Not directly, but I've had calls to help do repairs on stuff they've done. You also must remember, not everyone's an expert in all phases of computers, software or hardware. Yes, there are those that are not so good at it too. My old instructor told me once, "It's not that you know everything, but you need to know where to find the answers." I've got a few friends that I can call on to help when need be, they all have their own expertise. Get a few heads together, unselfishly to help out, and the jobs get done. The problem I've seen in several companies, is that they play the corporate game of withholding knowledge, (IE: patents, copyrights, intellectual property. etc. It's all about money and power to them.) and so it becomes a battle of who gets to stay hired, the ones holding out, eventually lose. The customers suffer, as a result. If companies in California move to NV, then they also need to get off the pot (pun), and maybe the move will shake them loose of the bad habit of considering games first, customers second. This will be interesting.
couldn't have agreed more with you on that there Nav.. I lived in that toilet for 28 years and in that time I have watched the powers that be totally ruin the place.. I moved up to northern Nevada to a small town, and i have to admit, i just couldn't be happier... Las Vegas can rot in hell for all I care.
Judging by your hostility toward and contempt of other human beings, I would wager that you are a republican, too
Bartman, I am a democrat and even I realize the issue with the Nevada in general, Nevada is last in nearly every category that would bring economic development.
California will always have a leg up on Nevada, just because the University system is so good over there and they can get graduates very easily. Plus the lifestyle in California is preferable for those graduates.
Looks like you unecessarily showed your own biases. :)
I lived in both states, north and south. Los Angeles turned into No. Mexico and gang land.
The bay area was great for years until the gay community took over city government and showed bias.
N. Nevada was fantastic and probably still is. So. Nv. is garbage ville with drug addicts, crime galore. The city and most of the surrounding areas are dirty. Las Vegas caters to the casinos and try to get unemployment approved in LV if it's against the casinos for improper dismissal. Their medical practice people have yet to learn their trade and the hospitals have incompetent people working for them. I am a disabled vet and those hospitals and dr's almost put me under the ground.
I feel for the casino workers. Casinos act like dictators to their employees.
I speak from sound experience.
Let em all starve in the unemployment line. Both states.
At least Nevada is trying to lure business. Here in Oregon our unemployment is higher than both California and Nevada. So, do you think our brilliant state government is trying to promote job creation? Well, actually not - we're raising personal and corporate income taxes to among the highest levels in the US. And our minimum wage is higher that the federal rate so summer jobs for students are priced out.
This is the result of a state government dominated by the public employees union - our governor is a former labor lawyer and both state senate and state house are controlled by liberal democrats.
But this is the fate of all socialist regimes. Get used to it.
I just wonder what these transplants will do when the WATER runs out. And it will. Along with the electricity that lights the grand streets. It will be no laughing matter when it gets so hot it'll fry an egg on their car tops. Californians should think long and hard about leaving paradise to live in an oven.
That was EACTLY my thought.
Even the Pentagon is taking Global Warming seriously and is planning for a much nastier world. How do the morons in Nevada think they will deal with an INCREASED population and a DECREASED water supply, as snow falls in the mountains get lighter and melt off quicker?
yep golf courses in a desert, what a waste. They should get rid of all of those. Ban them outright. Golf Courses are a luxury with the scarce amount of water there is.
This is an ill-conceived publicity stunt. Even if the Nevada interests succeed in peeling off a few California businesses and bringing them to Nevada, this is still California we are talking about, one of the largest economies in the world. Nevada can bring its A-game, Superman, and Captain Kirk, and it still won't make a dent in the California economy. I've been both places and have nothing for or against either, but seriously, folks. This is the mouse challenging the elephant. The mouse might steal a few of the elephant's peanuts, but it is still a mouse.
What does it say when one of the largest economies operates in the red?
California, Illinois, NY
Y'all keep on handing out them freebies.
California legislatures collected $190.00 per day, per diem while telling taxpayers the budget was billions in the hole. California legislatures are among the highest paid in the nation. California legislatures spend an additional $10,000.00 or more monthly on American Express Cards for incidental expenses (the cards are paid from state tax monies). California legislatures spend another roughly $205,716.00 annually on "state furnished gasoline charge cards to fill up their state furnished cars and/or private vehicles belonging to legislatures and their families and friends,as these gas purchases go unaudited. California legislatures while declaring the biggest billion dollar budget shortfall in it's history voted themselves a hefty increase in pay. When suggested to Governor Arnie that maybe cutting at the top (beginning with the Sacremento legislatures pays, perks, per diems) his and the legislatures response was to increase state sales tax from 7.75% to 8.25%, to double auto registration fees, so what it cost last year to registar a 2005 F150 pick up truck $250.00 was now costing $525.00 this year (over half a thousand dollars to registar a 4 year old truck). California legislatures and Gov. Arnie also decided to increase State Income Taxes this year, so that will be another big hit on the jobless taxpayers in this state. California taxes "unemployment benefits" as if you can afford to be taxed on these small benefits?? Hell unemployment checks don't even cover food, lodging, clothing, medical, auto insurance and registration fees required by law, so yeah, lets tax them. I live in California and Nevada is looking pretty good right now. The cost of relocation for a business to Nevada would be easily recouped within six months or less with the savings in state taxes, auto registrations and sales tax increases alone Califonria legislatures have imposed this year. California deserves to lose it businesses and revenue, they are a self-serving, greedy group of so called "elitist" law makers who put their own greedy needs and wants above the best interest of the state's citizens. Much like Washington D.C. is currently doing.
I will put up with Cali biz laws before moving to that wasteland where people move, realize what a pit it is and then leave and wish they had not sold their house in Cali.
The plight of business in California is mirrored in the above comments.
The tax burden is simply too high for business to survive.A new business is swamped with restrictive fees and regulations and survival in that oppressive atmosphere is a nightmare.Business goes where it can flourish.SIMPLE!Failure is too costly in every respect to ignore the hurdles.
As long as there is a choice,Califonia will continue its bleeding.Once a business leaves,a return to the state is out of the question.
Other smarter state governments -like Texas-are stripping California bare. There is nothing really special about California to day-not like 50 years ago.The state is a mess and the culture changed by millions of illegals. The schooling is the worst in the nation. The unions run the politicians and business is strangled.
Drastic cuts in state employees have not been implemented.Their numbers are huge. The taxpayers cannot support that burden and relief will come when the politicians in Sacramento realize their own survival depends on the maxed out taxed victim. The funding lavished on millions of illegals broadcasts an unmistakable message.Come the next election, many new faces will appear.
Legislators have clearly demonstrated their mindset and Californians who have been the backbone of this state for generations, continue to flee.
Flakes give I.O.U.s-- not states!.
Some folks think that the only choice for a fleeing California business entity is-- NEVADA.!
Think again!
It is anywhere -- other states and other countries,Many enterprises will leave the U.S. because it is an noncompetitive bankrupt basket case in freefall.Who would leap out of one fire into another. Those people with foresight and ability have a free choice>they will exercise accordingly.Fed. and state taxes together ,for those who are the job creators is slated for at least 50%.In a world that leaves us in the dust,competitively-there is no sense in trying to survive here. The U.S.national debt and annual deficit portend a dollar destruction on top of it all.As things stand now,I believe critical threshold has been crossed and whatever is done will not short circuit events that now have reached automatic selfaugmentation. The genie has been released from its bottle. It is every man for himself.
carson city now has a democratic majority and they celebrated by raising the business tax among others there is no state income tax however there are a lot of license and permit fees if you want to start a business still cheaper than cali but the californicators that moved here are trying to make the same mess that they moved away from, and if you are looking for a job don't come here looking for one! the last time they had an opening for town drunk 10.000 people applied:)
While the businesses may not move to carson city Californias latest stab against their businesses cap and trade will surely send them running. Does California ever learn? NO!
This is the result of fat cats attempting to get fatter. There is no greed bigger then government greed.
'Business leaders already rank the business environment in California far below other states in such critical areas as energy costs, housing, employee costs, regulation, infrastructure and taxes. We simply can't afford to put additional burdens on business that will make California even less competitive with other states. California should be encouraging companies to expand jobs here and working to persuade new companies to build and invest in our state”
In the closing days of the legislative year, four more "job killer" bills passed the Legislature. Of those, only one was signed into law.
The proposed laws threatened California employers with new costly workplace and employee benefit mandates, economic development barriers, regulatory burdens and inflated liability costs.
Why bother california is just not worth the expencive struggle their over priced government causes.
They dont want you. They dont need you. There are many states who would welcome you with open arms.
If they insist on screwing themselves, screw them!
Vote liberals screw your state! Vote liberal screw your nation!
